Hangouts issues - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having trouble merging a sms that's being sent to my GV number and that person's hangout. I've tried clearing that app data, I've made sure the contact information has their Gmail in it and I've tried long pressing both threads but the merge option doesn't show.
Any advice?

Weird issue with Facebook Sync

Somehow I lost all my contacts today. No big deal, I don't talk to THAT many people and can just get their numbers again. However, I decided to sync my facebook contacts. I noticed something weird. With the contacts that were imported using Facebook, when I go to text that number I cannot search for the name. It will not auto populate in the "Name" box of the text message. Numbers that I manually add to my contact list work just fine. Also, my contacts are not keeping their Facebook profile picture in text messages. In the call log its fine. Anyone experience this?
1. You shoulda synced them over google contacts...
2. Delete/wipe cache of facebook and reinstall it, see if that works (reboot inbetween)

[SOLVED] Google Voice Through Any Messaging App with Cyanogenmod

I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS SOLUTION. JUST SHARING
XDA user Koush has found a solution to using google voice with any messaging app. Here are the steps to take
Beta 2: Google Voice through any messaging app
0) Google Voice must be installed with notifications enabled (for now).
1) Install a recent +CyanogenMod nightly. July 1st or later. You need the SMS middleware patches I put in for PushSMS. (see Gerrit)
2) Push this apk to /system/app: http://download.clockworkmod.com/test/babel-2-signed.apk adb install will not work. The app requires system/signature permissions.
4) Start Babel, choose your Google Voice account. Authorize it.
Fixed since original release:
* Registers with AccessibilityService automatically.
* SMS sent via GV website, etc now sync to the stock messaging store.
* If you're running a +CyanogenMod build from last night, the duplicate GV notifications will be cleared.

What are the chances of getting this to work without using a CM ROM? I use a TW-based ROM on my Galaxy Note 2, and since I am on Sprint, I have completed the Google Voice integration. I sometimes reply to texts using the web interface from my PC, and I'd love to be able to sync my conversations so they appear on my phone as well. I would also love to be able to use Textra or a similar messaging app instead of the boring official Google Voice app. However, since GV doesn't support MMS, could it work so that MMS is sent using the carrier messaging infrastructure?

Voice+ Delayed & Multiple same messages
Anyone having Voice+ delay your messages? Sometimes text messages will come through right away, but most of the time it will take several hours or a reboot to get the messages to retrieve. When it does retrieve them, my phone blows up with messages because I get each message about 4 times. I'm curious if anyone else is experiencing this. It's been hard to find any info since I've been unable to find anyone talking about issues with it.

This does happen to me as well. I haven't found any way to reproduce the issue on demand; it seems completely random whether I receive the messages right away or if there's a delay.
Me too. Today I tried emptying my Google Voice inbox, clearing data for the Google Voice, Voice +, Messaging apps.
Still have problems having messages delivered properly.
I am on the 10/9 nightly 10.2 build.

It started doing this for me as well. I've noticed that I receive messages only if I send one out, and also everything I receive is double. I do get it only once on Google Voice.. If I'm looking at my phone when I receive a text, I see the Google Voice notification, and it never makes it over to the SMS app, until I send an SMS out, then I see the messages.
Same here. Also, sometimes txts will not send from stock (stuck at "sending"), but messages sent from GV app go out instantly.
Sent from my XT875 using xda app-developers app
I'm running Vanir and it appears to be working fine. The only problem is SMS received appears to be coming from a random phone # and not the number it was sent to me from. Anyone else?

Hanouts Contacts Problem

Guys, a strange Hangouts problem - When I add new contacts, if I receive a Hangouts message from them, in the Hangouts list of messages it only shows their mobile number - not their contact name. The strange thing is that in Notifications and when I go into that contacts message it actually shows their name.
So, in short - I have a contact stored with their name and number. If I receive a Hangout message from that person it DOESN'T show their name in the Hangout list of messages. BUT it does show their name once I open that message. It also shows their name in Notifications!
Strange!!!

I have this issue sometimes. Sometimes clearing the cache for Hangouts or removing the thread works.
Thanks for the suggestion. Alas that didn't work for me! Strange!
I really like the N5 but there are so many little niggles with it... annoying little niggles... that can lead a man to jump ship back to fruit, which is good for you!

Sign out and sign back in seems to be the best solution so far.
A full uninstall of hangouts then reinstall will work every time.

Thanks. I've tried signing out and back in again. That didn't work. Will try uninstalling and reinstalling it. I'm presuming I will lose my existing messages, right?!?!?
Happens to me when I add a number to my contact list, I myself have tried clearing cache and reinstalling etc, still the same.

[Completed] [Q] Hangouts split between SMS and Chat, won't merge

HTC One M8 running Cyanogenmod 12.1 5-23 Nightly
My phone restarted the other day (not uncommon.) When it rebooted all my account information was gone (never happened before.)
No big deal, I reentered the information, but since then my SMS and chat hangouts have been split in Hangouts. I have cleared the cache and the data. Uninstalled and reinstalled Hangouts. I even performed a reset and restore. No luck.
Each contact now has 2 conversations, one for SMS and one for chat. If I go into a chat conversation I no longer can touch the green bubble and select SMS. If I go into SMS I can touch the "SMS" button and select between carrier number and Google Voice number. I have tried long pressing the SMS conversation and the chat conversation and the "Merge" button does not appear. If I select UNMERGE from an older conversation (pre restart) it will split out and I can remerge those one thread. But it still will only allow me to use one protocol in each thread.
Any suggestions?
PS - Yes, "Enable Merged Conversations" is checked. I have checked it and unchecked it to no avail.
PPS - Sorry for the cross post.

Do you have this CM ROM version: [ROM][OFFICIAL] CyanogenMod 12.1 Nightlies for the HTC One m8 by invisiblek?
If yes, you should better post your question there.
In case that you can't post in the ROM thread, you can ask in the [HELP THREAD] HTC One M8 - Ask any questions here! by KidCarter93 alternatively.
Good luck !
I have the exact same issue. I've been using the same ROM for months, and it happened so suddenly while I was in the middle of composing a message. I didn't flash anything new or do anything out of the ordinary. I don't think this is an issue specific to any device or to CyanogenMod, but rather another issue specific to the already buggy Hangouts app.
First it only started with one contact. I added a new number for this contact, and the new number had a separate thread, while the old number and Hangouts chat remained in another thread. On this contact's phone, the thread containing my two numbers (SMS and GVoice), as well as Hangouts chat, are all merged into a single thread, so I know this is possible.
To make matters worse, I turned GVoice integration on and off, as well as the option to have SMS messages merged with Hangouts, trying to find a combination that would fix my issue. Now, ALL my previously merged contacts are in separate threads and I can't merge them back (even if I long press both conversations, the merge button doesn't appear).

[Q] Contacts numbers and names mixed up

Before I wipe my contacts clean and try syncing again, has anyone seen this happen?
I was talking to someone on WhatsApp (WhatsApp uses your phone contacts) when suddenly the name of the person I was talking to changed to someone elses name in my contacts, who I have never spoken to on WhatsApp
Then I realise all of my contacts have other peoples numbers added to them as primary and secondary numbers, it has basically taken numbers from random contacts and added them to random wrong contacts
They are all still 100% correct on contacts.google.com, but totally screwed up on my phone
Any ideas?
Well it's fixed, luckily I exported my Gmail contacts yesterday, because as soon as I deleted my phone contacts, it decided to sync and delete them from gmail too, even though I'd been trying to get gmail to sync them numerous times prior to the deletion and it refused
Imported them back into gmail and it synced to my phone again
PITA
Do clear the contact data
You can clear the contact data from the phone and restore it using your email. check out the TechRounder blog for any doubt.
