[Q] Contacts numbers and names mixed up - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Before I wipe my contacts clean and try syncing again, has anyone seen this happen?
I was talking to someone on WhatsApp (WhatsApp uses your phone contacts) when suddenly the name of the person I was talking to changed to someone elses name in my contacts, who I have never spoken to on WhatsApp
Then I realise all of my contacts have other peoples numbers added to them as primary and secondary numbers, it has basically taken numbers from random contacts and added them to random wrong contacts
They are all still 100% correct on contacts.google.com, but totally screwed up on my phone
Any ideas?

Well it's fixed, luckily I exported my Gmail contacts yesterday, because as soon as I deleted my phone contacts, it decided to sync and delete them from gmail too, even though I'd been trying to get gmail to sync them numerous times prior to the deletion and it refused
Imported them back into gmail and it synced to my phone again
PITA

Do clear the contact data
You can clear the contact data from the phone and restore it using your email. check out the TechRounder blog for any doubt.

Anyone else randomly losing gmail contacts?

Before I got my Captivate I set up all my contacts into gmail. I set up the ones I wanted on my phone as My Contacts, and then had 20-30 more that were pretty much just e-mail addresses in All Contacts. I synced them to my IPhone using the Exchange method, and while it worked, I randomly lost 5-6 contacts. It was a little disconcerting but I got the info, re-created them and moved on. No problems.
Now, I just synced my gmail account to my new Captivate, expecting it to work better and I seem to be constantly losing contacts! Now that I'm aware of it and paying attention, this is driving me absolutely crazy! There seems to be no rhyme or reason for it. The contacts that disappear, they all have phone numbers, some are linked with Facebook accounts, some aren't. Some were added in gmail directly, others were added either on my phone or on the Iphone previously.
When I first synced my phone I had about 107 or so All Contacts in Gmail. I receive a text from someone who shows up as a phone number in my phone, so I text back "who is this?" and it turns out to be a good friend of mine I had a contact set up for, with two e-mail addresses, two phone numbers and an address. This is a contact I've had for years, so from the beginning. Just gone.
I looked on Gmail and I have 97 All Contacts. And I have no idea how to figure out which ones are lost. Then I lose two more, I have 95. I figured out one of them that I lost and re-added it so I had 96. I just lost one more. Phone numbers and all.
What the @*($ is going on here? I just exported a backup of my gmail contacts to a csv file, and I guess I'm going to have to do this everytime they change.
Is anyone else having this issue? I have no apps or addons that have anything to do with contacts. Sorry the thread is so long, I just wanted to explain what's been happening.
I don't know if I'm losing contacts, but I do loose contacts numbers. I have had a few numbers come up as numbers only, when the person calls. I ignore these calls most of the time, because if know them, their name will show. Check my voicemail, its my answering svc. I look for the contact, its there, but no number associated with it.
In my case, it only seems to happen when I originally sync with a new phone. Ill have to start watching the amount of contacts, I guess.

I was totally surprised by this. I've already discovered at least 10 contacts that have completely and totally disappeared. Some of them disappeared before, on this phone, and I've re-added them in with their numbers and e-mail addresses. And they disappeared again. Every time I add any contact information for the time being I'm going to export it from gmail and double check my # of contacts daily. Right now I have 107 in all contacts. The worst part is when you lose them there's no easy way to figure out which contact disappeared.
What the... Me too !!!

[Q] How to sync sms and contacts with htcsense.com

How do i sync sms and contacts with htcsense.com ?
I can log in to htcsense.com and make my phone ring and i can lock the phone.
But i want the rest that is shown in this video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXKuloPGFx8
I don't know when they stopped having it look like that, but I think it automatically syncs.
I exchanged my Sensation today & when I signed in the my htcsense account on my phone it started to sync the contacts & texts back to my phone. I really wish there was a way to disable it actually.
You can disable sync, but then you will not be able to track your phone i guess.
I don't understand why i can't see all options.
If I'm going to do a hard reset, then i want to know if my data is in sync with htcsense.com or not...
see that's what sucks. I'd like it to be synced to htcsense, but I don't want my contacts/sms synced. i hope they fix that. right now if I sync it up then it will pull down my contacts & there will be duplicates which I don't want.
After sync with htcsense.com, I did a hard reset of the phone.
The contacts and the messages was not restored to my phone when i again performed a sync with htcsense.com
There was no important sms on my phone and i had all my contacts synchronized with gmail, so no problem losing it.
Apps was not restored when logging on to marked.

Open the People app, go to the menu -> More -> Linked contacts. Unlink all the duplicates. Go back to the main screen and you'll be able to delete the duplicate entries.

Thats not going to work, what you have to do is go in your gmail on a pc or anything other than your phone and go to contacts and delete the duplicates. The problem is your contacts are being save to gmail and simcard so everytime you sync with gmail your contact are going right back on your phone along with you sim contacts wich are the same as gmail contacts.this will stop it from happening everytime you sync or flash a rom

It depends completely on whether the contacts are stored as phone contacts (which is the default for contacts entered/imported on the phone) or google contacts. I've had the same issue the OP had, and it was caused by duplicate phone contacts, not google contacts. Doesn't hurt for him to check, of course, you may be right
also the duplicates could be coming in from htcsense.com if you use that or tmobile's contact backup crap if you use that. I also had an issue with HTC Sync where it didn't like that I had contacts with notes on them & started auto duplicating my contacts.

Weird issue with Facebook Sync

Somehow I lost all my contacts today. No big deal, I don't talk to THAT many people and can just get their numbers again. However, I decided to sync my facebook contacts. I noticed something weird. With the contacts that were imported using Facebook, when I go to text that number I cannot search for the name. It will not auto populate in the "Name" box of the text message. Numbers that I manually add to my contact list work just fine. Also, my contacts are not keeping their Facebook profile picture in text messages. In the call log its fine. Anyone experience this?
1. You shoulda synced them over google contacts...
2. Delete/wipe cache of facebook and reinstall it, see if that works (reboot inbetween)

Contacts question

Just a weird one never had a problem on other android phones. It happens when i go to make a call and go through my phonebook. Even happens in messages. That my sim contacts and google contacts show up. Now i have tried and looked everywhere on the phone just to show my sim contacts but still to no luck.
Any body else have this glitch
The first time you opened contacts, it asked where you wanted to pull contacts from (sim, google, etc.). By default, I think they are all checked off. Try going into the contacts settings and disabling Google.
