[Q] Moto g imei changed with display - General Questions and Answers

I cracked the display of my moto g first generation and on replacement of display at a local shop I noted that everything works fine but the IMEI numbers have been changed. Everything on the memory is intact though. Is it that they have changed the motherboard as well? I dialed to check IMEI and also checked through "about phone", they do not match with the IMEI printed on the phone battery. The sim tray spring seems a little loose too. Guide me please. Do I walk in and ask them to replace back my old motherboard?

Nexus 5 "No Service, SIM card ok"

I have a nexus 5 "hammerhead" running the latest version of android marshmallow 6.0.1 .
My issue is, the device wont detect any network signal. At first i thought it was a software issue so I downgraded to lollipop and kitkat but the same issue still exist.
All I see is the network provider name, and beside it 'No Service'. I really dont know what else to do, unless this is a hardware issue. Anyone here had experienced the same issue and have it solved? Or am I just going to have to turn this device into a tablet. -___-
p.s. The screen broke and was replaced, and after return of the phone this happened. Is it that the phone repair guy damaged my device?
Plz help!?
Is the imei okay? Are both of the antenna wires properly connected?

yes i can clearly see the imei #. ..and about the antenna wires, yes both are connected but just that the white wire seems abit off. but i tested the continuity and it seemed to work.
The imei is the same before and after the repair?
Did you remove the motherboard and examine it for signs of damage or alteration?

Yes I did. Motherboard checked out ok. Just can't understand why no signal tho. Wifi and Bluetooth works well. And to answer your question, yes imei # is the same.
Also, I was told that the phone fell before the screen replacement and that's when the issue started.
Even if the antenna wasn't connected, it should be able to pickup some amount of signal. If that's not the case then I'll just have to replace the cables and the lower PCB also the speaker area.
Maybe the drop caused a loose connection on the motherboard?
Did you try pressing against the antenna connection points on the motherboard with the back removed?
Well not entirely.. All I tried was checking the antenna wires (which I realized are just the WiFi antennas) and also, tried placing a copper wire in one of the testpoint area that's dedicated to GPRS.
Is it possible that the transceiver may be damaged? Or that's not possible from a simple fall.
Imei is not blacklisted?
Nahh I doubt it. Phone was purchased unlocked was working for a while.. Fell, signal went ..broken screen.. Then once the screen was replaced, inserted sim and it detected sim and also the network but won't gain any bars (service) nor will it detect any other providers.
I would check the imei just in case.
What would I compare that to, apart from what the phone telling me?
I'm registered on the cell network, but no service despite the adjustments of changing the network type or by dialing *#*#4636#*#* and making alterations there.
You can check the imei in swappa.

Yeah pretty weird if you ask me. But if you do get a solution to that issue please share :good:
According to Rameeze87, possible hardware issue. Here's the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/nexus-5-network-signal-wifi-ok-t3310047
Had no idea couldnt duplicate threads, then again it did help to justify the issue.
same
Mine is doing the same thing. Once in a blue moon it will show full bars upon first inserting the sim for maybe three seconds and show provider then drop all the bars and say no service. Dont think there is a simple fix.
Having this issue right now with my wife's phone. Power button broke and was going through endless power cycling so I removed the power button. Got the phone working but will not connect to network. I have checked everything 20 times.
Any solutions?
Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk
Yup.. same issue. Phone fell and no mobile signals since (sim gets detected). Everything else is working fine, checked the antenna wires and they are connected properly... Anyone here who was able to get the signals back?
similar issue here in the uk.
N5 phone worked fine for 2 years with a 3 sim.
i changed the knackered battery and that all works and charges ok.
but the 3 sim now wont work(but it does in my motorola moto g), the only sim that will work in my N5 is an O2 sim ???
why does one sim work but not another, the phone isn't locked to a carrier?....

S6 "lost" its IMEI

A colleague of mine bought an S6 from an ebay seller and it has been working fine for about 2 months, then the weekend before last for no apparent reason, the phone lost its IMEI.
The phone has never been rooted, and when he first got the phone we checked the phone with the "Phone Info *Samsung*" app which indicated that this was a genuine non-refurbed device.
The original IMEI started with 359800, but now it's reading 35(and a lot of zeroes)
Anyone have any idea how this happened and if it is recoverable?
Is it possible that this was a cloned device with a fake imei and somehow that has disappeared?
It just seems strange that the IMEI would go for what seems to be no reason at all

Samsung S6 Edge lost EFS files - No IMEI or Baseband Version

Hey everyone,
I've looked around the forums quite a bit and have found some similar problems but have not yet found a solution to my scenario.
Basically, my S6 Edge received minor water damage, enough to cause corrosion onto the motherboard through the volume and power buttons.
The phone was inoperable for about 12 months (I was travelling and didn't have the funds to repair it), I've since returned home and decided to fix it.
I took the phone apart, cleaned the corrosion and put the phone back together, I believe the hardware is fully functioning now, everything still works.
Once I turned the phone on it wouldn't pick up a network signal. I went into the 'about' section and found that the phone has no IMEI or Baseband version and it won't recognize a SIM card.
I've rooted the phone, it was originally running 6.0, it's now 7.0 through a manual installation with Odin3 and a factory reset, still no IMEI or Baseband Version.
Everywhere I've read on the internet say I need to backup/restore the EFS files, but that's not the case because they seem to have vanished from thin air.
Other information:
Phone was originally locked to Virgin Aus, I had it unlocked and used it with a Canadian pre-paid SIM no problems
The IMEI is written on the back of the phone
Model is Samsung G925I.
If anyone is able to offer any insight into this I'd be so grateful! I couldn't see anywhere, but can I load a generic EFS file onto the phone and manually enter my IMEI number?
Thanks!

Invalid IMEI, serial number and model number

I bought an S8+ from Craiglist a bit hasty and I think I was tricked. There were a few photos on the Craiglist and on one of them, there's a phone displaying both IMEI numbers (dual sim) and a box with a sticker and the same IMEI number. We met, I checked the phone quickly, everything works, phone looks as advertised, we're both in a hurry, I give the money, take the phone and we split. I took a photo of his driving licence and a car registration. 2 days later, I found a time to set it up and made a switch from my old Galaxy S5. Before inserting SIM card I type *#06# to check IMEI once again just to find it's completely different! And even worse, online services recognize it as an "invalid IMEI". I then checked serial number on IMEI.info and it sees the phone as Galaxy S5. Then I checked model number and it showes SM-G950, which should be a regular S8, not S8+. It's obvious someone has tampered with the IMEI numbers and system. Now, things complicate for me. I don't live in the USA, I flew back to Europe and I can't easily go to the police in US and try to find a person.
My questions:
Where do these wrong info come from? Is there anything I can do to reset it to the factory values? Is the IMEI number truly changed or just software change?
IMEI: 353456789104561 / 01 and 353456789104562 / 02
SN shown when typing *#06#: R28H33QX82H
SN shown settings>Routine management>status: 0123456789ABCDEF
Model number SM-G950
Thanks
Unfortunately, the phone is a copy of Samsung S8+, I realized it once I faced it to the original one. I bought it in Dallas, I have his driving licence and a car plates. Does it make any sense to contact the local police? Will they do anything about that?
Thanks

No there is nothing they can do as it is not a criminal matter. You would have to sue him personally. Which would never be worth it really.
I bought a mediatek tablet with serial number 0123456789ABCDEF and the IMEI number is unknown...please is the serial number correct and how can I get an IMEI number because the tablet doesn't display network

[Q] Cheap new phone won't connect to mobile network - dodgy IMEI?

my daughter bought a cheap phone from a well known website here in Australia.
It is dual sim, I think it's a knock-off of a more expensive phone, the model number shows "R11max"
Seeems that no sim card we try will work, they all say "mobile network not availablke" when I try to make a call, text messages won't send, etc.
When I check in About Phone> Status> IMEI information, both SIM slots have the same IMEI.
I'm guessing we got ripped off, with a dodgy phone that somebody has slapped a dodgy IMEI onto, cloned /duplicate IMEIs which have already been banned from the network or something?
Do you think my theory is correct or what else could be causing this problem?
It's not legit for both slots to have the same IMEI is it?
Regarding IMEI - this is normal. some phones with 2 SIMs can have 1 IMEI. If the phone can only have 1 SIM active at a time, then only 1 IMEI is required. Only the true dual-SIM devices, where both SIMs can be active at once, require 2 IMEIs.
You can check the status of an IMEI for lost/stolen etc here: http://www.lost.amta.org.au/IMEI
Some sites give you more info on your device based on IMEI: http://www.imei.info/
Not sure about the network issues, but I came across this random thread while searching. Seems the R11Max is one cheap nasty piece of junk, sorry to say. You'll struggle to install any apps on it, because there's literally not enough storage. Anyway, have a read of that if you get time: https://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1426197
