Hey everyone,
I've looked around the forums quite a bit and have found some similar problems but have not yet found a solution to my scenario.
Basically, my S6 Edge received minor water damage, enough to cause corrosion onto the motherboard through the volume and power buttons.
The phone was inoperable for about 12 months (I was travelling and didn't have the funds to repair it), I've since returned home and decided to fix it.
I took the phone apart, cleaned the corrosion and put the phone back together, I believe the hardware is fully functioning now, everything still works.
Once I turned the phone on it wouldn't pick up a network signal. I went into the 'about' section and found that the phone has no IMEI or Baseband version and it won't recognize a SIM card.
I've rooted the phone, it was originally running 6.0, it's now 7.0 through a manual installation with Odin3 and a factory reset, still no IMEI or Baseband Version.
Everywhere I've read on the internet say I need to backup/restore the EFS files, but that's not the case because they seem to have vanished from thin air.
Other information:
Phone was originally locked to Virgin Aus, I had it unlocked and used it with a Canadian pre-paid SIM no problems
The IMEI is written on the back of the phone
Model is Samsung G925I.
If anyone is able to offer any insight into this I'd be so grateful! I couldn't see anywhere, but can I load a generic EFS file onto the phone and manually enter my IMEI number?
Thanks!

Hello all, this is my first post and also please move if in wrong place.
I have had a off the shelf, not locked to a network Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 for a couple of years now without issue except that it would take sometimes 5 minutes to join the Orange network and get a signal, other times it might be a minute, or then it might be on the network as soon as the phone booted. I just lived with this "little pain in the bum" problem.
I rooted the phone so I could remove un-needed pre-installed apps, to free some space, which worked, but I already had the signal issue before this so I don't believe this made it worse. Last few days I sold it on ebay to be told by the buyer that it would not connect to the network no matter what sim was installed. I now have the phone back with a view to fixing the problem. They basically were not waiting long enough for it to connect to the network, which is fair enough as it should connect quickly.
I have used the following sims, all connecting to the network eventually: Orange, O2 and Vodafone. - This is the same behaviour as before I sold it but just lived with it, but it is clearly a problem.
My findings are that when I first turn on the phone and *#06# the IMEI is null / null. Leave the phone and it will show the REAL IMEI which is printed under the battery and once the IMEI is shown, it will connect to any network. So I don't think it is a fake IMEI problem as it will find the real one. I have also always had a issue with GPS being very poor.
I have tried to backup / restore the EFS folder but it made no difference. I unrooted to the stock ROM before I sold it, re-rooted etc but nothing changes. The IMEI eventually is found and the phone works without any issues.
Hopefully someone will have an idea of where to start to try and fix this issue.
Many thanks in advance.
Woosh
I have also found that the baseband version is also not available to start with. Everything happens together, the IMEI number, the baseband version and connection to phone network all appear to happen at the same time.
I have just re-flashed to stock rom with no change to the delay in getting the IMEI etc. KIES also does not recognise the phone until the missing details are found and then KIES is happy.
Anyone?
Hi guys,
Would love some advice. I bought my brother a nexus 5 and he used it for a few weeks. Then one day the signal just shows empty triangle. Won't connect to cell network at all. I tried flashing it to upgrade to newer rom, and even tried downgrade to different stock Roms from Google, and nothing has made the signal come back. I also tried new SIM cards. Didn't work. Then I Took a working sim out of my phone and tried it in the nexus 5... Still nothing. I have no clue what else to do. Is this a hardware problem? Anyone else ever see this happen before? I'll try any suggestions and report back.

Sounds like you have a imei issue.
Open the phone app, dial in *#06#. If your IMEI shows as "0" read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60421668&postcount=26
Sounds more like phone got blacklisted and you got scammed
Thanks for the advice. I'll check into both and report back.
My imei is displaying fine. I checked it online and the swappa ESN check reports it is clean. I also tried opening the back and disconnecting / reconnecting the antenna wire. Still nothing. Anything else to try?
Did you check other sites to check for blacklisted imei numbers? Does the imei in the phone match Imei on the phone box or sticker attached to the back cover?

The Imei Doesn't match the box. When I was taking a second look at the antenna cable - I found something! I think someone repaired it in the past, and probably did a crappy job. On the main board, just northwest of the antenna cable, you can see some traces leading to another component. And along those traces, there is a blob of solder. I cleaned it off with a qtip and some alcohol, still no joy. But glad to at least understand what the hell is going on a little more. I ordered a scrap phone off the internet for cheap, and I'm going to assemble a frankenphone. Hopefully it will all work great at that point. I'll report back.
Got a phone that was fully working, but had a cracked screen for a good price. Swapped in my screen, bam. Problems gone. Thanks guys.
Glad to hear you got the phone fixed. I also have a phone with a smashed screen. Just looking to find a cheap used N5 with a good screen.
A colleague of mine bought an S6 from an ebay seller and it has been working fine for about 2 months, then the weekend before last for no apparent reason, the phone lost its IMEI.
The phone has never been rooted, and when he first got the phone we checked the phone with the "Phone Info *Samsung*" app which indicated that this was a genuine non-refurbed device.
The original IMEI started with 359800, but now it's reading 35(and a lot of zeroes)
Anyone have any idea how this happened and if it is recoverable?
Is it possible that this was a cloned device with a fake imei and somehow that has disappeared?
It just seems strange that the IMEI would go for what seems to be no reason at all
Hi
I have a rooted Galaxy note 5 phone SM-N920C model.
Some water got into my phone and i had to take it to a phone shop to get it fixed its was working fine after the water damage but the power button had to be pressed hard to work.
the repair guy told me he had to replace several some parts i think some cpus.
After i got my phone my sim would work and then randomly stop working and i couldn't make calls nor will mobile data work. Then randomly it would work again and stop randomly.
i tried my sim in another phone and it was working fine, even tried my friend's in my phone and it had the same problem.
An important thing that i found is that the model in my device info has changed from SM-N920C to SM-G935T Aka Samasung S7 Edge.
after a couple of days i figured out that outside the house the mobile network works fine but inside it it doesn't might have to do with the signal i'm getting from the device. So im thinking of this an error from the guy who fixed it so i'm going to return it to him.
Things i did trying to fix it : flash all kind of different roms, unrooted, rerooted and also tried to install S7 Edge roms also tried the S7 Edge stock rom.

I bought this phone off Ebay about 3 weeks ago. It was labeled as a d820 The listing said for parts does not read sim card but everything else worked. Being Semi decent in the tinkering world I thought I would spend the 40 $ on the phone to see if I could make it work. When I got the phone it was on the setup screen because it was just factory reset. When I put my sim in (T-mobile) it showed that it had a signal. As soon as finished setup it lost the signal and could not connect again. So obviously it is some kind of software issue. So the first thing I did was try to update it from lollipop to marshmallow. Once again it showed it was connected to my network until completing setup. This time when I was in the bootloader I noticed that it said it was a d821. I figured well I paid 40 dollars I was probably going to get ripped off somewhere. So then I started reading about how to use the d821 in America thinnking that was the issue. I tried the qpst thing where you add the additional bands- nothing. Then I messed around a bunch in the cdma tool after reading a thread about adding cdma to the device. I also tried flashing various modems and roms with no luck. Last night I thought maybe theres something I missed hardware wise in the phone so I opened it up. I checked all of the connections and everything was fine. I started reading the numbers and got really confused. On the back of the phone it says d821 under the lg logo. but on the inside of the back cover and the plastic shroud on the motherboard it says d820. This might be irrelevant but it would be super great if someone had an idea of how I can get this to work on T-mobile in the USA because with a decent rom this phone is wayyy smoother and faster than my 5.5" alcatel idol 3 network unlocked from cricket (So lte sucks). All i want is a phone that has a stable lte connection XD
ANY ideas how to fix my D821?
The model # in the bootloader is the correct model #. Is it possible the imei has been blacklisted?
On the motherboard, near battery connector there is info about 32/16gb and d820/d821.
