I have a nexus 5 "hammerhead" running the latest version of android marshmallow 6.0.1 .
My issue is, the device wont detect any network signal. At first i thought it was a software issue so I downgraded to lollipop and kitkat but the same issue still exist.
All I see is the network provider name, and beside it 'No Service'. I really dont know what else to do, unless this is a hardware issue. Anyone here had experienced the same issue and have it solved? Or am I just going to have to turn this device into a tablet. -___-
p.s. The screen broke and was replaced, and after return of the phone this happened. Is it that the phone repair guy damaged my device?
Plz help!?
Is the imei okay? Are both of the antenna wires properly connected?

yes i can clearly see the imei #. ..and about the antenna wires, yes both are connected but just that the white wire seems abit off. but i tested the continuity and it seemed to work.
The imei is the same before and after the repair?
Did you remove the motherboard and examine it for signs of damage or alteration?

Yes I did. Motherboard checked out ok. Just can't understand why no signal tho. Wifi and Bluetooth works well. And to answer your question, yes imei # is the same.
Also, I was told that the phone fell before the screen replacement and that's when the issue started.
Even if the antenna wasn't connected, it should be able to pickup some amount of signal. If that's not the case then I'll just have to replace the cables and the lower PCB also the speaker area.
Maybe the drop caused a loose connection on the motherboard?
Did you try pressing against the antenna connection points on the motherboard with the back removed?
Well not entirely.. All I tried was checking the antenna wires (which I realized are just the WiFi antennas) and also, tried placing a copper wire in one of the testpoint area that's dedicated to GPRS.
Is it possible that the transceiver may be damaged? Or that's not possible from a simple fall.
Imei is not blacklisted?
Nahh I doubt it. Phone was purchased unlocked was working for a while.. Fell, signal went ..broken screen.. Then once the screen was replaced, inserted sim and it detected sim and also the network but won't gain any bars (service) nor will it detect any other providers.
I would check the imei just in case.
What would I compare that to, apart from what the phone telling me?
I'm registered on the cell network, but no service despite the adjustments of changing the network type or by dialing *#*#4636#*#* and making alterations there.
You can check the imei in swappa.
same problem

Yeah pretty weird if you ask me. But if you do get a solution to that issue please share :good:
According to Rameeze87, possible hardware issue. Here's the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/nexus-5-network-signal-wifi-ok-t3310047
Had no idea couldnt duplicate threads, then again it did help to justify the issue.
same
Mine is doing the same thing. Once in a blue moon it will show full bars upon first inserting the sim for maybe three seconds and show provider then drop all the bars and say no service. Dont think there is a simple fix.
Having this issue right now with my wife's phone. Power button broke and was going through endless power cycling so I removed the power button. Got the phone working but will not connect to network. I have checked everything 20 times.
Any solutions?

Yup.. same issue. Phone fell and no mobile signals since (sim gets detected). Everything else is working fine, checked the antenna wires and they are connected properly... Anyone here who was able to get the signals back?
similar issue here in the uk.
N5 phone worked fine for 2 years with a 3 sim.
i changed the knackered battery and that all works and charges ok.
but the 3 sim now wont work(but it does in my motorola moto g), the only sim that will work in my N5 is an O2 sim ???
why does one sim work but not another, the phone isn't locked to a carrier?....

Hi all,
i've got a HTC One S (S4)
- Unlocked bootloader
- Custom recovery (twrp)
- Root
- S-Off
The problem that im having is that the phone recognizes the SIM, can connect to the internet and navigate at good speeds (I can also see the H and 3G icons), but it has no service on the signal bar and I cannot make or receive calls.
Thinking it was a radio issue, i flashed many radios for Ville i found on this forum, but no improvements at all.
Any thoughts or suggestions are highly apprisciated.
Many thanks!
PS ive tried other phones, so its not the sim.
I experienced these problems few months ago.. GSM antenna cable was unplugged after a fall.. I just disassembled the phone and connected it.

yeah but i havent droped once mine,
could it be just software issue?
PS i forgot to tell that sometimes it receives for a couple of minutes the signal bar and can call and send sms.
Found out that the owner hadn't paid phone bills and the phone was blocked by IMEI, so only option was resell it for a lower price.

Same problem for me. After a fall (not sure) no mor signal, only emergency calls. What have you done exactly? I've disassembled it, found the antenna cable and it seems ok: unplugged and plugged again, both connector (the one at the top and the one at the bottom).
many thanks
Hello,
Firstly I'm looking for a comment from an expert who has taken Nexus5s apart before. Also I'm beyond the point of returning the phone as this fault developed after replacing a screen and ribbon cable (after I smashed my phone badly). Any help or advice would be great.
So since screen and USB flex replacement on my D821 i notice that my phone signal will connect with full bars, then drop completely, I can also only get 2g where i was able to get higher. The same sim works fine in my nokia. The Wifi Signal is fine and gps works ok but the 'no service' thing makes my phone unusable. I have tried making sure all contacts are clean and even replaced the loudspeaker unit and the black antenna cable but to no avail.
Can someone put up a picture of exactly the components that are involved in the phone signal / 3g setup? Is it possible something could have been damaged on the mainboard to cause this? I can search for networks, connect (sometimes) then it will just cut out.
I tried google for days but cant find a schematic. Basically im trying to determine if there are any other parts i should try exchanging before giving up. It makes no difference how i hold (or dont hold) the phone.
Thanks
Good day, today I dropped my phone don't know if it lost signal after this didn't notice until I tried to make a phone call but now there no signal, can't make or receive calls, I notice that at the bottom of the screen it shows my service provider name and next to it says no service so don't know it its hardware related or sim, do you think that if I reset the phone it might work again? Thanks. Right now can't test because I'm at work, but in general information on service it says disconnected

Flash stock with fastboot, if it's the same, it's hardware I'm afraid.
Thanks a lot did already, tried everything seems hardware related, noticed that it also lost nfc connection wondering rich part should I replace to fix it, if only has to do with antenna or the whole mainboard
The NFC radio and antenna are connected to the back cover. Try popping your back cover off and on again.

Thanks already did and nothing, could it be related to some other piece?
go to your dialer app and type in #*06*# and see if a number pops up (your imei number) (dont post the number here)
Did too, also the *#*#4636#*#* and checked if signal was turned on, tried sim in other phones works without problems, I noticed that nfc is not working too, guess it has to do with a piece of hardware as far as I know both antennas are in the back of the phone. Took it to service and they told me it has no problem physically, this is driving me crazy
Also checked that it has no reports of being stolen, imei seems correct and legit checked it also on a site to see if it's valid and its working, it starts with a 32.
My phone wouldn't connect to any network after being in airplane mode on vacation for a week, acted like no signal - empty triangle instead of bars. I called my cell provider (T-Mobile) and after a new SIM and a factory reset they did something on their end because my phone was trying to connect to a tower that didn't exist. I'm a little fuzzy on what they actually did, but it worked. I actually had to do it twice over a couple weeks before it stopped giving me trouble.

Hello
Hello guys, I am on the same boat as Valholy described.
My phone fell on the ground from my hands. When I took the phone from the ground... it was still working(it wasn't shutdown nor restart), I only noticed that there was no more signal. Tried to restart/shutdown, factory reset, different sim card but no luck at all... As Valholy described it shows provider's name on the bottom of the screen, but there is no signal yet.. It seems like hardware issue. Any recommendation to fix this issue?
Did you fix your phone yet, Valholy?
Thank you
bump...
any help please.
thank you
I have an unlocked and rooted galaxy s3 on cyanide L costum ROM and T-Mobile as service provider. I was outside the US , my phone was working perfectly on roaming when I dropped and broke my screen. After paying $100 to have the screen and digitizer replaced I have been unable to connect to cellular data. Occasionally the signal will show five bars with an exclamation sign at the end. I am back in the US, my phone can make calls when connected to Wi-Fi but won't connect to cellular data when I turn off WiFi. I have reassembled and made sure any connection is not loose. I have done factory reset and tried a different ROM but that hasn't help. My sim works in other phone.
Anybody have any idea what could be going in? I will appreciate any help.
I think when you dropped your device, it mistakenly broke antenna .
Go to Service Center and ask if they can help with it.
Which antenna could it have broken? The flexible antenna seems intact

Hello,
I have a big problem with my OnePlus One: After it detects the SIM and I entered the PIN the phone isn't getting any reception. I tried multiple SIM cards. I am actually having a IMEI, tried all APNs, which are available by the providers and I even tried multiple ROMs (I have no problem with erasing data or so, 'cause it's my backup OPO)
But in each single ROM the One isn't getting a signal.
In the settings I can actually choose the providers so the chip/ module ist working (maybe interesting to know: I repaired the phone's screen, so of course i fully dissembled the phone and first i thought maybe I cracked some parts, but the motherboard of my normal OPO is working fine and gets reception WITH all of the parts from the backup phone. In the other way the "not working" motherboard is also not receiving reception with the normally perfect working parts.
So there are only two ways:
Some software isn't working perfect, especially the modems' one, because I can't connect to any network. (I already typed in "+#+#4636#+#+ to see if the phone is getting a signal and yes it does!)
OR some components of the chip on the motherboard broke by the repair, but because it is getting a signal this isn't this way I think.
So I am over. Do you have any hints like a special modem that I can flash?

only resetting to the defaults no, but this should also be done by flashing a ROM to a completely wiped phone.
But now I have done this, but this didn't change something.
Hey,
I have a similar problem but with 3 and 4g. It works for a while then it stops : phone shows full signal icon but I cannot make calls or connect to the web.
However my 2g works fine. Try downgrading to see if it changes anything?

My problem is that I'm not even getting a signal in the notification bar. I am only getting a signal in the hidden menu (call *#*#4636#*#*)
A change between 2g/ 3g and LTE hadn't changed anything and a swap with the frequency via the hidden menu also didn't changed anything.

OK. I will try this than I am back at home and have access to a Windows VM.
Anyways thanks to any suggestions!
Make sure the antenna is plugged in.
Worst case scenario, IMO, is that your antenna connector has broken itself from the board at the trace level.

They said the only thing that they can do is to "repair it", so they will replace it, but it would cost so much...

No. It happend a week or two ago. I started my phone in the morning and there were 2 problems: The touchscreen didn't reacted to anytging, but the LCD was working and the signal icon in the notfication bar didn't showed anything. (I didn't use a pin with the SIM)
So I restarted the phone with a long press (about 10 seconds) on the power button.
Nothing has changed so I thought that the cables where loose or so.
I took it apart and disconnected every single connection inside. Put it all together then. Touchscreen was working again, but nothing has changed by the signal.
So as I already wrote:
So I swapped the motherboard with my other OPO and it happend.
So the antenna and bottom part is working.

Check the connection of network antenna again. It might be loose.
Problem solved. It were some "not perfectly working SIM cards" as my provider wrote me in a letter, which came with some brand new SIMs, which are working fine right know. Don't' know why they were all working in the other OPO, but now the problem is solved!
Thanks for any suggestions!

I'd still check it physically. I practically tore my hair out for a few hours after receiving a friend's phone after having its screen replaced. Similar symptoms wherein you can ping for networks, there appears to be signal from the debug menu as well but it just wouldn't connect to a network. I suspect that once it tries to connect and sends the required voltage to do it it fails as the antenna isn't there. The board and the connector itself is a bit of antenna on its own + you may be in an area that has very good reception in general.
