Stolen data on droids

Recently a study showed that about 18% of the 18k apss tested in android market did not protect personal information well enough and that some personal info might have already been stolen.
So what are your thoughts on this topic?

Before posting such scare-mongering stories, you might want to check your facts rather than just posting wildly. The BBC ran a report on this
Scientists tested 13,500 Android apps and found almost 8% failed to protect bank account and social media logins.

By creating a fake wi-fi hotspot and using a specially created attack tool to spy on the data the apps sent via that route, the researchers were able to:
capture login details for online bank accounts, email services, social media sites and corporate networks
disable security programs or fool them into labelling secure apps as infected
inject computer code into the data stream that made apps carry out specific commands
An attacker could even re-direct a request to transfer funds, while making it look to the app user like the transaction was proceeding unchanged.

To be totally honest the same thing can be done by creating a fake wi-fi hotspot for anyone using a laptop (even an Apple Mac) or an iPhone, Windows Phone etc - if you are stupid enough to do things involving your bank account on a public wi-fi network then you almost deserve what you get.

Idea to create site where android developers can in real-time test theirs apps on man

Hi,
I am wondering what do you think of idea to create website where android developers could test their apps in real-time on many android devices and see by video capture what is going on and how app is behaving. Do you think that developers need such website?

Request for Proposal - Plantwise Data Collection app

We are looking for an app development organisation to work with on a bespoke data collection app to complement our project, Plantwise and thought we'd bring the Request for Proposals to XDA.
So...this request for proposal is for a data collection app. This app should allow agricultural extension workers (plant doctors) in developing countries to conduct and record an interview with farmers regarding their crop health problems. Following the interview the app should submit the form to our API and it must collate key information from the form and send it to the farmer through an integrated SMS function. The app must be tailored around the development context which includes poor or intermittent data access and users who are not familiar with digital technologies.
If you'd like to see the full document and find out more, please reply and we'll get you a link to it.
Thanks for your time in considering this proposal.

[App] [2.1+] [In Dev.] Block&Lock App - Block distractions on your phone

Hey,
I heard lots of requests from people wanting a solution to disable distracting apps on their phone. There are already some solutions for PC, Mac and iOS, but not many for Android.
That's why I'm developing Block&Lock. It's an app that lets you block apps for specified timeframes or always, so you don't procrastinate anymore using social media and such during work .
At the same time you can lock applications that contain private data, so you can for example hand your phone to someone without him browsing your photos.
Both feature will be integrated in one App.
The website is now live, you can subscribe to the newsletter to get each and every update! But particularly: You get the paid PRO version for FREE by subscribing: bit.ly/block-lock-app
Beta users will also be chosen from the mailing list.
Follow the official twitter account as well: twitter.com/blocklockapp.
Thanks!
Best regards!

Google is tracking you.

I hope that with Lineage OS and avoiding Google apps anyone could avoid that... or maybe not.

The only way to avoid that is to boycott google apps , take a look at the MicroG project :
https://microg.org/
And read carefully the google privacy policy for each app.

I'm even skipping the microg project. I would like to avoid the Google empire as much as possible.
But thanks for the info!
Nice to see in video form what I'd like to think most of us here have known for years. Google profits from invading your privacy....constantly.
As do Microsoft, Apple and countless app/game developers and governments worldwide. The problem is the video offers no recommended solutions which of course start with root and removing all bundled Google apps and related infrastructure, along with manufacturer-bundled spyware. That's a good first step. As is sourcing apps from f-droid.
I didn't watch the video because I already know Google, your mobile carrier, and the government already track every move you make geographically as well as online. You can delete/disable your Google location history, but if you use a mobile phone, your geographical position is always known by your carrier, which in turn can be relayed to the government and police if they want it. There is no avoiding this unless you completely take yourself "off the grid", which >95% of people are not willing to do. Big brother is *always* watching you.
Yeah, nothing new. Google, Facebook, Twitter, everyone is tracking you. It is better to ditch Google products and social media altogether. I personally use Duck Duck Go for searching, Protonmail for secure mail, Surfshark for a fast and secure VPN, Privacy Badger for managing cookies and always use Incognito mode.
