Is there any way to retrieve and download applications without using Market App?
I want to develop a new application that directly search and download applications.
Thanks.
I am looking for a Remote Backup Application I can configure and push using my Google account and the Play store.
I would like for the ability to install it remotely using the store and have it automatically run and backup all of my photos and video to a remote server via ftp or another protocol.
I would like for the configuration to be built into the app so no configuration is needed on the phone.
The concept is like the Plan B app to retrieve the GPS location of the phone but instead do a remote backup.
Does anyone know of an open source project I could use and compile or a program that may meet these needs?
Thanks in advance.
Why do some free android apps require that you log in to Google to download them and some do not (like Opera browser and some others for example?)
Is it possible to download without logging in, which is sometimes inconvenient?
What about Windows-based OS? Do they support downloading apps without logging into any accounts?
Thank you.
Hi all,
I'm wondering if it is possible to access a Windows Authentication web service from an Android client without the Android app having access to the user's password.
I have found several solutions for NT authentication from Android, but they all involve manually sending the password to the web service. I want to protect my app from security concerns by not having control of the app from my source code.
For example, the Chrome Android app prompts for username/password when trying to access a site using NTLM Authentication. I would like this same behavior without having to write a custom popup. Ideally, the Android WebView class would ask for the user credentials, but it seems like a custom WebViewClient is required for this behavior.
Maybe there's something I'm missing in the documentation, or there is another method of doing this that would pass credentials directly to IIS without using my Android app as a middleman. Does anyone know if this is possible?
Thanks in advance.
On Pixel phones, there's a new backup and restore option which includes sms.
Even though I have Android 7.1 on my Nexus 5X, I don't have this feature. It seems to be a Pixel exclusive for now. However, it should be possible to replicate it somehow I think. Could this be part of Google Play services - or Google Drive, where we lately saw some new backup options in the hamburger menu and settings menu? I'm not rooted, but I still have my hopes up this piece of functionality could be activated on other phones. Did someone look into this?
As an example, we have a backup solution for call history and blocked numbers. It's been there for a few Android versions. The sms functionality seems to be very similar to those. Can't someone find out if it's done through Drive, Play services or some system component, and then begin experimenting?
Otherwise, if we can't replicate the Pixel functionality, then could something similar be built using the Google Drive app data backup? Sms backup apps typically have a solution of their own, such as file export, Gmail import or creating a folder in Google Drive. But what if my sms messages could be backed up as app data instead (from a homemade app, released to the play store for this purpose), using the Google Drive app data backup tool? Could someone write an app for that? Or are there limitations, perhaps the sms container on the phone can't be reached in that way?
I'm curious about what you have to say about this!
EDIT:
To clarify, I know there are many good backup solutions out there. What I'm asking for, is to have that task done as natively as possible in the OS. That's why I'm curious about the things above! Cheers
