Looking at possibly upgrading to the S6, have a few questions - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

Sorry for the long post just trying to get some information so i can make a decision and not have to go through the hassle of returning anything
I currently have the HTC M8 and generally i am happy with it except mainly the camera, which is very important to me i havnt been happy with it since day one but ive been using it for over a year till i found something better my main issue with it is that it overexposes light which for me is a big negative since i often go to events that i want to take pics at that have all sorts of lighting rigs.
My girlfriend has the S5 the issues i have with that particular phone are as follows, to me the colors always seemed off compared to the M8 it didnt seem natural reds in particular always through me off i believe it was over saturated and another thing i noticed on her phone that every time she gets a text notification the screen turns on to me that is a very annoying feature and i dont see anywhere to shut this off. I also never liked the plastic on Samsung phones.
So now with the S6 getting a makeover in terms of build quality im interested again in looking at that as a replacement for my M8, ive heard nothing but good things about the camera i assume it doesnt overexpose light like the M8 but my other questions relate to the screen colors I always have a hard time judging in a store if the colors are off because i never noticed in on the S5 till it was in my house and in daily use, so im wondering if the S6 has better screen colors? Does it have the screen turn on with notifications?
Also I have heard mixed things about the battery life, right now on my M8 im happy with the battery i get average screen on time of around 6 hours and get anywhere from 14-16 hours in total of battery life if the S6 can match this or better than it should be fine.
And lastly is there any major bugs right now or any notable problems that are waiting updates

Any flaws with the G2X?

Hey guys - im contemplating buying a new android phone but im not sure which one to choose. i'm leaning closely to the G2X but before i place my order for it - im interested in knowing if there are any flaws that people experience.. i would like to know before i buy so i can get an idea of what is the worst to expect when i get it (cuz where i am, re-sale will be difficult)
thanks for responses

There's about 2 million threads here on bugs people are experiencing.
Just one example: I just looked at my phone and it was totally shut down and wouldn't power up until I pulled the battery. First time that happened.
with every phone their will be a few bugs here and there, but if you can hold out until early june, if you like sense UI's try the htc sensation. i like this phone but i'm definitely getting that.
thanks for the responses guys - i'm looking past just software bugs (i mean, its common for android) and more worried about hardware bugs - EG, a friend of mine had a mytouch 4g with screen problems - after doing some research we discovered that there were two versions of the mytouch4g and one of them (namely the taiwan version) was built with fault-prone screens.
so im interested to know about common hardware faults with the G2X Specifically
@EmceeGeek - i would but the HTC Sensation probably wont come out for the same price range as the G2X.. if there was one phone i would wait for - its the SGSII
Screen bleed seems to be a pretty common hardware issue with this phone - lots of people on this forum have it, and both the T-Mobile and LG reps I spoke with acknowledged it as a known issue. Some people don't mind it as it is only really noticeable on dark backgrounds (e.g. the startup screens from off, camera screen, etc.), but for the $500 price tag, I expect better.
Others have complained about restarts, which also seems to be a hardware issue, though I have not experienced this myself.
Battery life is another huge issue. Some people are able to get very respectable battery duration (9 hours+), while others are barely able to squeeze out 5. There are some software solutions to the battery issues, but they don't seem to work for everyone.
I'm thinking about picking up a g2x as well. I'm looking to sell my white htc evo asap (before evo 3d comes out and the price I can get for it drops) and pick up a g2x. Do you guys know if these flaws are very prominent. If so, would I be able to return the g2x, assuming the sensation comes out in June, and exchange the g2x for the sensation w/in the 30 day return window?
I've had mine since the 19th/20th and the camera/video stopped working after a few days. It still takes good pictures and video but the screen itself goes DARK when you launch the camera app or barcode scanner app etc.
Factory reset didn't fix it....it's not rooted or anything either.
Getting a replacement. Local store said a few customers came in with same problem, no resolution yet.

What's the basis of this assumption? 2X users in Europe are being told by LG that there will be a patch released to fix their reboot issues. That would indicate software being the culprit, no?
I agree, the only hardware issue is the LCD bleeding, the rest are probably software related and a patch will be issued. I would choose the G2X over the sensation however I would wait a couple of months for the LCD bleeding to be fixed
thanks for the tip - it seems LCD Bleeding is very prominent in some members but i wish i could compile a ratio to see the odds of expecting my device to have it - are there any members who DONT have LCD Bleeding in their G2X's?
anyway if u ask me - this flaw, though a bit provoking, is nothing much to dwell on if it doesnt affect performance in any way
I hardly have any bleeding and I wouldn't have even noticed it if i hadnt read these forums. I havent had restarts or any problems at all as a matter of fac i love this phone my old blackberry feels like a dinosaur

Yep screen bleed is the only real widespread hardware problem with this phone (seems to be confined to early production numbers). Yhe rest is rushed software. T-mobile reps have started talking about an eminent software patch to fix the reset issue...etc.
Just fYI, I have no screen bleed and have had one reset in two weeks of otherwise continuous use (and I mean continuous). Overall I really happy with the phone.
I have been through 3 shipments and over 20 g2x's. Every single one has had varying degrees of screen bleed, from just a little in the corners to all the way in the center of the screen. Besides just the screen bleed, 70 - 80% of the devices I looked at also had brown staining along the edges of the screen when viewing a white screen such as a browser. A few were completely tinted yellow when looking at any color.
There's a new thread on the LG forum showing the screen separating from the rest of the phone, and the guy has a picture of the light coming through all the outer edges... bit worst than anything i've encountered.
Your call, but the thing is defective right now. If you insist on getting it, I would at least wait another month until possibly LG has addressed the issue. But chances are, they're not going to. This isn't a new device, its been out in Europe as an o2x for a while, and it's had the same issue since day 1.
I dont know about hardware flaws but a frequent problem I run into is that my 4g notification drops to 2g when that happens I actually have no data service I dont know if that data is rebooting itself but it happens quite often, and is really annoying when I am surfing web youtube or any other app that requires data connection. could be a t-mobile problem.
I dunno. I'm running CM7 and aside from screen bleeding I'd say the phone is a keeper.
I get awesome battery life. I can go from 8am-midnight under normal-heavy use and not worry. My screen bleed is minimal and not noticeable. Funny this forum introduced me to iPad2 screen bleeds which I knew nothing about until I looked at mine (damn you guys)
So for the most part you won't see the screen bleed in less you have a bad case of it, in which I would swap it for a new one. CM7 is finding its legs and is getting pretty close to a stable release.
The stock 2.2 kernel can be wonky which can cause battery misreadings (for better or worse) and resets in some cases. I haven't experienced any battery problems as it just runs and runs and runs. I have had resets on the leaked Gingerbread rom running on a Froyo kernel (but your asking for trouble there).
The phone comes with a 2.2 Rom which was left in Engineering mode and eventually gets sluggish and crashes. There is a patch that fixes this. Luckily most of the "major" issues are fixed by simply flashing CM7.
The screen bleed and light leak
I think they are related but still two different issues. I have been through 4 phones and they have all had light leakage. LG told me that there was a bad batch so this is not whining or anything that can be fixed by massaging or opening up the phone, and no matter what anyone says, its not something I will accept in a product I am paying 500 dollars for. Screen bleed has been varied. The one I have now is the worse of the 4, but I took it home to take photos so I could illustrate the problem. All had dates from the 14th to the 24th of April. The photos are just of the light leakage. There are enough of the bleed issue already.

[Q] Any true hardware issues?

Hi, im going to the USA this week and i want to buy an htc sensation, the thing is im looking for any mayor hardware issues on the phone, i dont care for the low volume or the short battery life (its a smartphone....we rly need to get used to the 8 hour baterry life =P ).....im talking about things that are big like:
* Phone gettin rly hot and making it reboot a lot (happened with my htc desire)
* this rumor about the sensation having some emc issues with the camera
I know theres a lot of threads about the phone issues but what i found out were people complaining on batery life or some apps not working or mostly software issues...... like i said im trying to look for real hardware issues like the death handgrip on the iphone4, i dont want to pay for a 600$ phone that 40% of the first batch production have defective hardware.....i cant go back and get it replaced after i buy it, thats what i get for living in a 3° world country so please dont tell me to move to a civilised country because i cant
My sensation gets really really hot on the bottom of the screen where you type when in the portrait position. I exchanged the phone for another and the second one does the same thing, I can honestly feel the tips of my fingers get hot when I type(really hot). Death grip is very real, same with both phones. Battery life is ok at best. If i could do it again I would wait and get something else. Just my 2 cents. Also phone lockscreen is a bit buggy, sense restarts regularly..........
Also the bottom of the screen goes unresponsive quite regularly, same with both phones. Not sure if that is hardware or software, just so you know
hmmm, seems like the heat issues repeats itself on several forums, and the weird lack of ecm protection of the camera also.
seems like ill be gettin a samsung galaxy s2
thx for the info

I would, I think this will be my last HTC phone, they always make a device with cool features and tremendous potential but never quite cuts the mustard. I have hung in there since the tilt and I think I am done lol
I often lurk the threads of the new devices and I appreciate the brutal honesty you have all displayed.. I tend to be a bit of a lurker. I am a Nexus One owner and I COULD upgrade... but it just doesn't seem to cut it. That being said, I'd never own a Samsung device, HTC has been perfect for me since the G1. Guess I will hold out and cross my fingers that HTC manufactures the next Nexus device.
Turn down the brightness, this will probably solve the issue with the phone getting very hot. 2 days ago, mine got VERY hot where the touch buttons are located. I was quite confused about this because it had not happened before. Then I realized I had set the screen brightness to 100% because I couldn't read the screen in bright daylight a couple hours earlier and forgot to turn it back down. Reset to my usual 15-25% and everything was fine again.
I havent had any overheating or hardware issues. Havent had any problem yet. Great phone!!!!!
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G
ok, if the heat issue can be solved by turning down the brightess im in......i mean i dont care if the sense 3.0 got bugs, they will fix that with future updates, what im worried about is this rumor about the camera taking bad pictures because it got emc leakage , seems like it does not have any emc protection for the lens....thx for the replys btw
Here are some issues:
Dust (I don't have it)
Death grip (very real)
Creaking (not such a big issue, but something that shouldn't happen on an expensive phone like this)
Lockscreen (software/hardware. I think it's software)
And some other things
Swyped from my HTC Sensation
Nothing to really complain about for me. I haven't had response issues. Although the death grip phenomenon is real, I've managed to avoid it by not covering the plastic on the top half on the device. Hopefully, HTC can come up with a new cover if enough people complain. There was one instance where, during GPS use, the metal back cover was almost too hot to hold. I believe that was due more to direct sunlight on my dashboard than the phone itself. Love the polished feel of the new Sense UI. If I could do it over, I'd prefer a Droid Bionic, but only by a very small amount. And that's only because of the speed of the hardware and Verizon's data speed/reception quality where I am. If you're looking to stay on TMO, I'd definitely recommend it.

One week with the AT&T HTC One X

Well, I saw a Rogers user posting his comments after a week of use so I figured I'd post some opinion as well, especially since I disagree with several of his opinions.
First, I've noticed the wi-fi issue as well. As with some other posters my router is not known to be super reliable, so that could have some impact. Also, it seems that some folks are having success switching to G instead of N and that may also help as I believe I am on G at work and I haven't had any issue with wi-fi at work. Hopefully this can be fixed with a software update.
I first reported some disappointment with the warm hue of the screen, and either it is growing on me or it is burning in a little bit and the tans, greens, and oranges are starting to look better. The screen as a whole looks fantastic. Several people have remarked how it looks like a sticker on the phone or like the image is sitting on top of the glass. The resolution is fantastic and everything looks crisp vibrant. Reds, blues, and yellows look fine too. White seems pretty white to me. When comparing a white screen on the HOX to an AMOLED screen the HOX looks white and the AMOLED looks blue.
Battery life is about what I was expecting and seems to be on-par with the international version. I've not had any trouble making it from 8AM to 11PM even with pretty heavy usage. It's not as good as my Captivate on AOKP which could make it ~30 hrs under my normal usage which is relatively light. Because the HOX is such a great phone and it's brand new I've been using it a lot more so the most I think I've gotten is 18 or 19 hours which most people would consider fantastic in consideration of the usage.
Camera is by no means average and it absolutely smokes the iPhone 4S. I took some test shots with my wife's iPhone and the HOX just blows it away. The flash is much better, but even in low light without the flash the HOX looks better, has less grain to the photos and generally focuses better and has better color reproduction. The speed of the camera is incredible and using the burst mode to capture a moment is a stroke of genius if you have a dog or a kid that you want to take a pic of them doing something cute.
I've not had any status bar icon issues or in call volume adjustment.
My biggest complaint is not being able to turn off LTE since I'm not in an LTE area. I tried using a different APN and I didn't notice any difference and it didn't improve my battery life at all. I only had the new APN for ~2 days but I felt I may have been getting worse battery life, but certainly wasn't getting better battery life so I just went back to the stock APN.
I guess the Rogers poster was coming from an iPhone and remarked on a slight lag moving between homescreens. This is exagerated to say the least. This phone with sense 4.0 is the fastest UI I've seen on an android phone and the only phone that is more fluid is the iphone and that is due to apple putting realtime priority on UI rendering computations while Android puts industry standard normal priority on rendering. No matter how good the code is, no matter how fast the processor is, it's just never going to look like the iphone because it's never going to have realtime priority. That said, this phone responds instantly to all touches in virtually all parts of the phone. The only times I've seen lag is either app related or network related. It's a great user experience.
Another concern I saw in some other threads that I completely agree with is that the white smudges easily. In addition, the polycarbonate shell may be very durable in that it protects the phone, but it's basically the same material as a LEGO and as such can be dented with a drop as I've unfortunately experienced already. As far as the smudging the phone wipes back to a bright white easily, but probably needs to be cleaned every few days to keep it bright white and not getting dull. The white looks fantastic, best looking white phone out there, but I'd have to reluctantly recommend the grey if you aren't going to use a case in order to hide some dirt and dings more easily.
Overall, this is a fantastic phone. HTC has lived up to the hype and produced THE top android the device out right now. If you want the best in basically every area, you want an HOX right now, and it doesn't look like Samsung is going to beat it and it's going to take quite some time for the S3 to come to the US. If you've got an ATT upgrade in the next 2 months, you'd be crazy not to drop it on the HOX.
Hey since your on the AT & T version and you don't have the setting to turn LTE off. Type *#*#4636#*#* go to phone information and you can switch it to GSM/HSPA only. Let me know if that works for you!
My two biggest concerns right now are the wi-fi performance (which seems to be real and potentially fixed with a software update) and the battery life. In a few days we should see professional reviews for the AT&T model that will be able to compare the international and LTE editions under equal usage.
I know the white is harder to keep clean but I really prefer the look of it over the grey. Maybe I'd just make the effort to keep it clean.
I also think the camera lens is an issue with respect to scratches. I don't plan on using a case 95% of the time, so I'd have to find a DIY way to cover said lens while not in use. (I was thinking a small piece of electrical tape or something along those lines.)
I'm also going to wait until the WWDC keynote next month to see what Apple has in store for iOS 6.
If the wi-fi issue can get settled, battery life is solid while using LTE, iOS 6 isn't leaps and bounds better than iOS 5, then I'll probably make the jump. Some things to line up first though.

I did some more testing with the camera and no doubt it is able to create some fairly high quality shots. I just find the camera experience a bit easier overall with the i4s. We have matte grey walls at home and for some reason they always show up weird and distorted, I'll take a pic after work tonight and post it to show you what I mean.. I'll also post a comparison pic off the iPhone camera.

Odd question, can you do time lapse videos? I know this is an ICS thing, just wondering if HTC left it in?

No clue if I'll end up getting the One X, but if I do, I'm only going to use a case when necessary (working around the house, etc). Love the way that polycarbonate feels in my hand. Camera lens needs to be covered with something though.
Has anyone messed with the APN settings and noticed a difference in battery life. You definitely can force HSPA/+.

First impressions on Galaxy S6 Edge - Sound Off

I got mine yesterday 4/8/15 - Im on Sprint and when I turned it on and did self activation I got a black screen... Eventually had to factory reset and go to sprint and get them to re activate it. Also Ive noticed it has been prettty laggy stuttering here and there. Google Keyboard doesn't fix it. Its not thaaat laggy but its enough to notice. My Sprint GS6 edge Black 64gb DID INFACT come with the hair line scratches people are reporting. battery life has been decently good.
Battery:
Full Day 1 GS6 Edge: April 9th 2015
Screen On time: 3hrs 50 min
7AM-1:04PM
Usage - Everything, auto brightness... All edge features on. half mobile data half wifi, NO BATTERY SAVER
Ive been getting about 8 or 9 hours on heavy usage mostly wifi though. black 32gb no scratches or other issues. No lag. Feels and looks great. Sound isnt as bad as people say. But i came from an s4. I do notice it seems warm when charging with the screen off lol. But maybe thats just the fast charger at work. The usb is snug though going in and kind of worries ya as yo how itll hold up. Data was way snappier and received lte in areas i previously couldn't.
Got mine on the 8th as well. No issues with lag, but my phone does have the small cosmetic scratches in the screen. Any idea if Sprint would do an exchange because of it? Battery has been just ok so far. Wasn't able to make it through the day on light usage without having to throw it on the charger before the end of night. Barely had 2 hours of screen time. Fingerprint scanner works like 75% of the time. Anyone have any tips on how to get the scanner to work more accurately? The phone is absolutely beautiful though.
Sprint shud allow replacements

I went in the Sprint store and they were shocked that I had the phone. First they told me they couldn't do anything because I wasn't supposed to have it... Then after they realized Pre Orders shipped early they just told me to call customer service to request a replacement.
Thats messed up because Sprint customer service told me to go into a store. After all I've been through with them lately i have come to the conclusion that they have absolutely no idea what's going on most of the time.

I use my right thumb and use the center of it with the top of the thumb to the left and bottom on the right. Like \ kind of ha. 99% of the time works. Only thing bugs me after using it is coming from the s4 lack of the menu button :/
Picked it up on launch day
Got the device (white, 64gig) around noon today (eastern), haven't been able to put it down. Screen is amazing, apps download and install from the Google Store in record time (coming from an N5) via wifi or Sprint Spark, speaking of Spark...I am getting coverage in more areas than I was before. Camera is by far the best experience I have had with Android and I am an original G1 owner, wow...we have come so far. Point and shoot is by far a much more fluid and pleasant experience. almost 9 gigs are taken up by system memory. Battery life and speed of charging has been a good experience thus far. Did i mention the screen? :good:
Got my white 32 gb edge yesterday from Best Buy. It looks great and no scratches seen
I did the update and everything seems to be working fine. The battery is great so far but I did notice some lag when something is downloading in the background a bit but nothing too bad. The brightness is being a bit annoying. The softkeys are too bright at night unless battery saver is turned on. The manual brightness is too bright and auto is too dim. Coming from the adaptive brightness from stock lolipop, its a bit disappointing. I love this phone however. The curved screen is fantastic, especially with gallery pictures. Also its ridiculously sharp. Battery is great so far and fast charging is great.
Called customer service...
I called in and they told me to take it to a repair center... They seem very uneducated on the issue. All they have to do is search it up, its very common now and annoying.

Also, I compared my screen with two other peoples screens on max brightness and mine is a little less bright then theirs and is more on the warmer side... Disappointing...

Mine takes up 6.7 something on system memeory. Anyone else? Just curious. On a 32gb black
I love my S6 Edge. Wish I could have gotten it in green though and with the news of demand outpacing supply and curved glass production problems I don't ever believe I will ever be able to get it into emergald green. There is already a shortage of the Edge devices which I why I am glad I pre-ordered.
The only other thing is Sprints network. My nexus 6 is on Cricket and I wish I would have ordered it on AT&T and kept my Note 4 on Sprint, or moved my Nexus 6 to Sprint. Hopefully they will roll Spark out here soon and that will address the capacity issues that seem to plague Louisiana.
It's an amazing phone. I love it.
The S6E is my first metal & glass phone and I'm loving it so far. The phone looks great in Gold Platinum and it's really classy & sleek looking.
The performance is great, operation smooth, great feel in hand & easy to use one-handed, and the camera is fabulous.
I'm not bothered by a lack of microSD & removable battery as I thought I would be (probably the Nexus 5 got me used to that).
This is definitely the best phone in the world for me right now.

It is up to you. Given how many Edges are floating around with scratched screens it really is a gamble. I have not really heard of any issues with the S6 but there are reports on all carriers of scratched S6E devices. And like any other carrier, Sprint isn't going to keep opening boxes for you, even if they do have them in stock. You could get one where the screen has the scratches on the screen, or in/under the screen. I guess you have to decide if you really could live with that if you do get a defective unit. Some people say they can live with it. Others cannot.

i could probably live with that. my main concern is even with a case and i drop the edge, the curved part of the glass is exposed to potentially get more damage. does it feel like ur gonna drop it at all when u use it?
Not a very good first impression for me since screen rotation was broken out of the box and Samsung support has no clue about whether it's going to be a software fix or not.
I'm very happy with my edge. I would never chage it with a normal one. It is much more beautiful. This is my opinion. And my screen is not scratch and i have very good batery life: 24h batery with 5h SOT or 48h with 2h 30 min SOT.

[Q] What can I do to prevent AMOLED burn-in short-term?

Hello, I acquired a Galaxy S6 yesterday and I love the thing, but have heard bad things about AMOLED burn and Samsung products, and have personally seen it in BestBuy (which makes sense because those are the same devices on playing the same demo almost all day every day.)
My issue right now is that I'm going on an 8 hour road trip in a few days, then 8 hours to go back home, and I'm the driver. I'd like to have Waze open most of the time, but I'm afraid of it burning into my screen.
I've been doing research around the forums and all over google and haven't seem to find something for short term for these 16 hours.
Only things I read I should do so far are Auto Brightness and enabling Gray Scale mode.
Anything else I should try doing?
Amoled doesn't like white and blue (shortest life diode). But Samsung's new amoled are more power and energy efficient. So don't worry about screen burn in. Super Amoled of my 3+ year old Infuse still no burn in!
Just enjoy your S6. Should a defect come about you can have it replaced using your existing warranty.
