I'm having some problems with using my Nexus together with my Netgear WNDR3700. Some googeling shows that there are more persons with problem, but i can't seem to find any solution.
Wifi is working, but poorly. Especially connecting to the wifi takes alot of time.
After "waking" the phone from sleep (or activating wifi), it takes up to a minute for it to get a connection. Both with my laptops and my iphone (3g), this just takes a few seconds.
I'm using WPA/WPA2 PSK as encryption and I have tried different channels and so on. The signal strength is good.
Anyone with suggestions?
A little bit bump, but I would really need some help.
I can see that the phone finds the network, and gets an IP, but I dont have any data connection. Any way to pin it down further?
Is your router set up as dhcp or static ip?
If it is static, did you assign ip to your phone
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
My router use dhcp, and it works just fine for both computers and my girlfriends iphone.
have you flashed dd-wrt on router by any chance? it looks like there are certain revisions of this router that have bad radio antennas, and that can get worse with a dd-wrt firmware.
I have the same router but have no major issues with it, but my range is pretty near altogether

You have a 3700 hw version 1 or 2, up to date firmware, ssid broadcast on or off? The netgear forum is a pretty good resource http://forum1.netgear.com/forumdisplay.php?f=105.
Is your nexus s stock, have you tried one of the other radios available on XDA: KB1, KB2, KB3, KD1, is wifi set to never sleep in the wireless advanced options?
With 2.3.4, radio KD1, my ns takes around 5 seconds or so for the wifi to activate and log in to the router with the router set to WPA2-PSK [AES].
I have a hw v1 3700 with 1.0.7.98 firmware and it is rock solid, at any one time there are a wired pc, wireless pc, squeezebox radio, galaxy tab, nexus one and nexus s connected and I have never seen the signal drop on any of the devices, it's the only router I've ever owned for over a year at this point.

I have v1, newest firmware and broadcasting ssid. I dont have wifi to never sleep, it takes to much battery.
I havent tried to change radio in my NS, but maybe I should...
I seem to be having various issues with 5ghz wifi with the tab 7.7.
My most common issues are:
1: struggling to optain ip and connect
2: when it does show connected its not really connected. I base this on the fact that after it shows connected nothing connects. E. G market, browser, fb, twitter, Google talk etc.
Some notes:
1: Get similar results on friends tab 7.7
2. Dont get the same issue if I connect on 2.4ghz band
3. Its the only device i have with these issues. Including a galaxy s2 and note.
Curious to know if any one else os having this issue.
Mine works fine.. try changing the channels and also try changing the channel width from 40mhz to 20mhz to see if it makes a difference.

Mine works fine with WiFi N at 5GHz on a Netgear router.

No luck with mine. Doesn't even find my AP. Have the channel width set as suggested above with no effect.
Funny my Galaxy Nexus which i am sending back to Expansys for repair used to connect to my 5ghz AP.. Now it doesn't even see it.. i have to physically place the Galaxy Nexus on the AP for it to connect when i move the phone 5 inches from the AP the connection drops.. Can you try this, and report back.. Place the tab right next to or touching the AP and see if it connects..
I initially had problems connecting to any WAP. They would show up in the list of available SSIDs but when I'd go to connect it would try and then drop. Then it magically fixed itself and I've connected to several WAPs with no issues. I'm getting close to the 12 MBps down max that my home DSL has now.

I initially had to set it to auto just to get it connected. So your right changing it to 20 definitly improved my ability to connect. Its not stable though..
Weird thing is my S2 and galaxy note connected on 20 and 40mhz with out any issues.
Maans
No connection, all other devices are working fine. Where is the bug fix?
Mine works completely fine.
- Apple Extreme Airport
- channel 48
- otherwise all default
By the way, the range of 5GHz band is much shorter than 2.4. If you are far from the router 5 GHz will not connect, while 2.4 still works.
So does anyone know if the galaxy tab 2 supports the 5ghz radio?
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk 2
My gt7.7 has problems finding my 5ghz Span with 40mhz channel width, at 20mhz everything is ok. Router is a wdr4300. Same goes for the channels. Can only conect Tor 149 and above.
My wifi turns off almost instantly after turning on. Sometimes it will connect to my network and other times it's a no go.
This is a wifi only version and I'm still in the return window so thinking about swapping it out or just taking it back
Android Version 3.2
Kernel 2.6.36-P6210UELA3-CL616928
Build HDJ85B.UELA3
I've been googling for a couple of hours
Stock reset device and wifi sleep policy is set to never. I have nothing installed
thoughts?
I assume that other devices connect and stay connected just fine?
There are wifi tool apps (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer) that might give you a little better insight to what is happening
Yes, all other devices work fine with the router.
I have tried both DHCP and static and have assigned a specific IP to the tablet from the router.
If I could get the wifi to stay on i'd see what I could download
Edit: Seems to be something to do with the router. I have two in my house (one upstairs and one down). Both resolve back to my uverse model so the routers are just wireless bridges I guess. If I connect to the downstairs and turn wireless off and on I have no problems. If I connect to the upstairs router things go down the crapper
by chance is the upstairs router wireless-n?
Yes. the upstairs is wireless N
Think if I changed it to G only it would work better?
Solution : only connect to WiFi G ?
I have the same issue on my european GT P6210, connected to a Netgear WNDR3800, which has dual band WiFi (2.4GHz B/G/N and 5GHz A/N).
Yesterday evening, everything worked like a charm on the 2.4GHz band supporting N (up to 130Mbps) but today the connection is really random. I tried to connect to the 5GHz band network but to no avail.
So I restricted the 2.4GHz band network to B/G only (up to 54Mbps) and it is way more stable.
HTH, too bad for the DLNA streaming
in my experience the wireless N on the tab + is downright unstable. using wireless G tends to correct this problem. and since i can think of no reason i need 130mbps throughput to the tab, i see no reason not to continue using the G. disappointing though. the tab 7 experiences the same issues

Did you set the tab to only use G? or did you set the router to only broadcast G? I had to set my router to only broadcast G
I have had this problem with 3 different Galaxy tabs. Keep in mind that this is connecting to a work WIFI using wpa2 enterprise. Boggles me that it connects for like 2 mins then drops, only way to reconnect is to disable/enable the wifi. At home using wpa2 non enterprise I can connect perfectly with no drops.
The Wifi Range on the 5Ghz is really low. WTF! The signal does not hold just out of the room from where the wifi router is kept. I tested it with wifi analyzer and the signal just drops. To double check I used my Samsung Tablet with 5Ghz band and Laptop with 5Ghz card at the same distance. They work just fine and get full range and speed. 2.4Ghz works okay. But there is lot of congestion in my apartment. So I use 5Ghz. The router is Asus N66U Dual band.
1) I have latest router firmware.
2) WPA2- Personal
3) 5Ghz is running on 20/40Mhz bandwidth in the 157-161 channel.
4) Running stock rooted CM11S.

You are comparing your phone with 2 devices that have at least twice the length of wifi antennas inside their chassis. What would you expect, seriously?
I have the same issue. Funny thing is the lower band 5ghz channels work better but still not like the SGS4 did. I notice the signal drops quick and the disconnects... It's messed up.
echo this... very non consistent 5ghz range as compared to both a nexus 5, galaxy s4 where both of those phones in my house have consistent 5g wireless connectivity.
i had to drop down to 2.4ghz to maintain connection on the OPO
I have zero problems with my two devices connecting to my 5gHz network at home. Always connects, always consistent.

Hello guys,
I just received my Motorola Photon Q mobile. Asked Cornholio to do the SIM mod.
Tested my new phone yesterday with carbonROM . Well I Must say all looks good except wifi.
Wifi speed is showing me 1Mbps
My old xperia mini pro is showing me someting around 70Mbps. My wife has got new mobile too ( Lenovo Vibe X2 ) and she has 150Mbps.
Even her old Iphone 4S is showing her 70Mbps or so.
So it looks like there is some problem with my new phone.
My router is Netgear JWNR2000V2.
Do you guys have some experience with this ?
Thanks a lot
Is it actually slow?
You won't get 150 or even 70 mbps as the phone doesn't do 802.11n IIRC. G is limited to 54mbps, and that is 'ideal'. Also the phone doesn't do the 5ghz band, so you are limited to 2.4ghz.
Unless you wifi speeds are actually slow, who cares what it says it is connected at.

That's not completely right.
It does 802.11n but not the 5GHz band.
It also has only one WLAN antenna, so the speed is limited.
Looking in OpenWRT it shows for my PQ:
RX Rate -> 72.2 Mbit/s, MCS 7, 20MHz
TX Rate -> 65.0 Mbit/s, MCS 7, 20MHz
MCS Index -> http://mcsindex.com/
Btw. it is actually better using 802.11n over 802.11g.
So don't disable 802.11n in your router, consider to disable 802.11b instead.
Well yeah it is slow.
I was not able to connect or load the Google store yesterday on my new Photon Q.
But I must say it is connected. I saw some threads whre ppl were complaining that wifi is connected and disconnected after some time. I do not have this. I have just this connection speed is 1Mbps So watching youtube videos or surfing web on the phone through wifi is not possible at the moment
So I am oging to do some testing today. Hope I will find the problem.

I was never able to get my N network to connect... but I may have been forcing it to 5ghz, which explains why it wouldn't have connected.
I haven't used my Q in a year or so personally, so this was all from memory. Either way, the hardware is 3 years old at this point, so the newest wifi tech is a bit beyond its manufacture date.
@arrrghhh, sadly I cannot disable 802.11g in OpenWRT with my router (a driver limitation I guess) so I cannot test it.
There were also some limitations on wether it connects and if it is stable (a wireless setting "preamble" [short/long] caused me random crashes).
@Jovzin, if I remember right, there have been reports that a defective WiFi antenna might be the problem.
Though, I'm not sure where and how the antenna is connected. I only know that there is a "special plastic" within the phone, which replaces the antenna.

Do you think this will help ?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MOTOROLA-PH...7&pid=100005&rk=1&rkt=6&sd=131158027161&rt=nc
Cause I am desperate. I tried now to do the Wifi tether from my wife's new mobile Lenovo vibe X2 the phones were close to each other and still 1Mbps Crap
Did test with my router: When I was about 5 meters away I got 26Mbps. I got closer to router and it drops back to 1-2 Mbps. So really do not know what is happening crap.

What is your router configured to broadcast? Have you tried changing any of the settings? Are you sure the hardware is OK - did you test it before the SIM modification?
@Jovzin, it might help, yes. (Shipping costs are pretty high.)
But first you should open your PQ and take a look.
Maybe CornholioGSM just forgot to attach it correctly and you don't need to replace anything.
Also, please answer to arrrghhhs question.
Are you sure it isn't a power saving function? Try downloading something in the background and then checking the connection speed.
My droid 4 also connects at 1Mbps when the connection is idle. Laptop wireless adapters also commonly do this to save power - they show their unthrottled speed on the wireless panel but you can see it connecting at 1mbps when idle on both the router and 3rd party wireless utils.
Hello some good news.
I did a factory reset.
And now somehow it is working. And I am sure taht I have uncheckd that battery saver for wifi.
But when the phone is idle it is 1Mbps. When I am downloading somethign from store it is 65Mbps. Hmm there is some build in saver ? Which is different than this power saver wifi which I can tick in wifi options ?
Anyway I am happy that somehow it is working
Thanks for help guys
If I may one more question.
It is possible to watch HD youtube videos on PQ ? Cause in youtube app I see only 360p Was hoping that there will be option for 720 at least...
If you enabled 40mhz channel width on the router (you're using 20mhz now), you could double the 65mbps to 130mbps, but this only really works well if you're using 5ghz channel, or have a very quiet 2.4ghz channel, otherwise you're subjected to more interference.

Correct.
In 2.4GHz (what the PQ can) it is contraproductive to use 40MHz channel.
It even can be slowed down in a "noisy" environment (I gave it already up).
Also, this is ruthless to your neighbours, so don't.
In 5GHz it is only usable if you can use more than just a few channels.
Even then, it is obvious that most devices are 2.4 GHz and just "a few" can 5GHz (the PQ cannot).
So it actually is not a problem to use 40MHz channel in 5GHz. In future this might change.
