I'm having some problems with using my Nexus together with my Netgear WNDR3700. Some googeling shows that there are more persons with problem, but i can't seem to find any solution.
Wifi is working, but poorly. Especially connecting to the wifi takes alot of time.
After "waking" the phone from sleep (or activating wifi), it takes up to a minute for it to get a connection. Both with my laptops and my iphone (3g), this just takes a few seconds.
I'm using WPA/WPA2 PSK as encryption and I have tried different channels and so on. The signal strength is good.
Anyone with suggestions?
A little bit bump, but I would really need some help.
I can see that the phone finds the network, and gets an IP, but I dont have any data connection. Any way to pin it down further?
Is your router set up as dhcp or static ip?
If it is static, did you assign ip to your phone
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
My router use dhcp, and it works just fine for both computers and my girlfriends iphone.
have you flashed dd-wrt on router by any chance? it looks like there are certain revisions of this router that have bad radio antennas, and that can get worse with a dd-wrt firmware.
I have the same router but have no major issues with it, but my range is pretty near altogether

You have a 3700 hw version 1 or 2, up to date firmware, ssid broadcast on or off? The netgear forum is a pretty good resource http://forum1.netgear.com/forumdisplay.php?f=105.
Is your nexus s stock, have you tried one of the other radios available on XDA: KB1, KB2, KB3, KD1, is wifi set to never sleep in the wireless advanced options?
With 2.3.4, radio KD1, my ns takes around 5 seconds or so for the wifi to activate and log in to the router with the router set to WPA2-PSK [AES].
I have a hw v1 3700 with 1.0.7.98 firmware and it is rock solid, at any one time there are a wired pc, wireless pc, squeezebox radio, galaxy tab, nexus one and nexus s connected and I have never seen the signal drop on any of the devices, it's the only router I've ever owned for over a year at this point.

I have my router setup in my den, less than a foot away from the outside window. If I goto my car in the driveway, 75ft (max) from the router itself, I don't even pick up a weak signal. Why is this? I feel like I'm running on 802.11b with the range I get. Speeds seem to be at G speeds but still, the distance seems really false. Anyone else experiencing this?
802.11b and 802.11g have the same effective range.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/802.11
i have the same issue. i have a linksys router, but it might be crap. Ill swap and see what happens
@coolb, sorry, meant to type a, just had b still in my head from looking up the g1's specs.
I have a Belkin N1 Wireless Router, most definatly not a POS And I mean it can pick it up from other rooms, but it seems when i go out of my house it just says no to me.
Either way I'm still under 40m from it, I wouldn't expect any more than 15m, maybe 20m, and like i said its right next to a huge bay window that I'm in direct sight of.
Try changing your router's channel or something. Maybe too much interference.
i have a belkin b/g and get no or 1 bar of wifi signal in my house. my buddy has the same basic router, but the n model and my meter is full and the connection was fast. I am definitely getting an N router in a week or so. i havent had any problems with the last couple of belkin routers i have had, so it will prolly be them.
I have a belkin n1 vision router, and i get signal down the street, about 50 feet away.
i have 3 routers, a 2wire gateway, a crappy netgear and a linksys, and on all 3 sometimes i get great signal sometimes i get low signal, i think the wifiradio no the g1 reacts based on battery life, i could be wrong but its just random like that... prob something that will be fixed on future firmware updates.
It can be anything not just the G1 but what is around, between you and the router, which way the antenna's are pointing, what is near the router. Honestly... I had a microwave between the router and one desktop and it always had issues even when the microwave was off... I moved it and signal came back and no problems. So just because it is off it could still impact the router.
i cant get any wifi network even from 2 feet away.
I had the same problem with my linksys wrt54gs till I went to do some searches about firmware on it. I came across a free firmware site that replaces linksys original firmware and worked great after I installed it. It was fairly easy to install and a big community for help incase you come across some issues. the website is http://dd-wrt.com. I usually had to reset my router once a week cause of failure to connect issues, but since the change I yet have not to reset my router and the signal is stronger. Its been two months now since.

Go to a computer connected to you router preferable wired and connect to you router(by typing its ip address in browser) it might ask you for a username & pass, you can looked it up online ie google linksys admin password. Usually its admin and there's no password or admin admin etc. Then change some of the settings around until you get it to work . Mess around with the security and the frequency. That's what did it for me.
I have problems with the G1's WiFi as well, it refuses to stay connected for more than 10 seconds at a time to my uni wifi. It'll constantly disconnect and reconnect... I have to turn off the wifi to get any internet usage out of this thing. It works fine with my home router, and my laptop and old winmo phone connect fine to the school network. No idea what's wrong
I have a linksys wifi N router at home and my laptop connects at around 144mbps, however my phone only connects at around 72mbps..
Also my laptop always sits on my coffee table which is about 15' from my router (through one wall) and has excellent signal. But my phone usually only has good signal in the same spot. It only usually lights up like two of the wifi indicators.
Does everyone else have this issue? Are the wifi chips just not strong in the phone or what?
My laptop is currently saying that it is recieving at 54mbps, my mesmerize is showing the same speed. Although my laptop is stating that I have excellent strength, and my phone is showing fair strength. I think the wifi is only so-so in this phone, I rooted last night and just got wifi tethering going. With the phone broadcasting a hostspot next to the laptop it only gave a fair signal strength. I'm not sure if the strength of a wifi hotspot has anything to do with the recieving end of the signal though.

I've had this issue with both my droid and my blackberry (when I used my blackberry). I think that the wifi capabilities in phones are not as good as they are in computers.
but the reason I'm asking this is this phone is supposed to have wifi N radio in it.. Older phones only had G antennas which are only capable of 54mbps.. wifi N is theoretically capable of up to 300mbps, I've never seen anything actually connect at that speed, but it would seem that my phone which is brand new should atleast connect at the same speed as a 2 year old wifi N laptop???

If your router is only G that's the max speed you will get?
Wifi is a pain in general to troubleshoot, as there could be many, many reasons why it is slow or not working at all.
General questions to be asked are:
Do you have security enabled wifi?
What kind of encryption are you using?
How many devices are connected to the network? (Wired or wireless)
Is the router set to send a wireless N signal? (most routers have that optioned, but not always running as most devices are not wireless N compatible)
I've had my phone connected at several wifi's (I travel a lot for work and am in hotels all the time) and my connection speed varies. At home I have great connection and speed test to 5megs a second download (wireless N--it connects) currently at a hotel in Colorado, 1480kbps download (wireless G)
I still stick by my thoughts as far as the wifi on the phones will never be as good as the wifi in a computer, be it a laptop or a desktop. Phones just don't have the battery power to hold a super strong/fast wifi signal.
I have wifi speed problems also but my first gen ipod touch does not seem to have issues

yes, the router is set to wifi N or actually it's set to all!!! I have security enabled..
There's only two devices running wifi (laptop/cell phone)
I get fast download speeds like 5000kbps down/2500kbps up when using the speedtest.net app..
But when I go to wifi settings and click on my router once it's connected whether I have Good (usually) or excellent it's only connected to my router at 72Mbps.. I have a static IP set for it..
I guess mobile phone wifi chips just aren't up to par with laptop chips

Those are my sentiments exactly. Even with it not being as fast, it's plenty fast for everything I need it to do, but 3g is fast enough for me generally. I only connect to wireless when I'm not in good cell service.
I have only done this for 2 days so it is hardly scientific but I noticed that for some reason when the infuse is at home on wifi it won't stay asleep. It divides the time between 800mhz and deep sleep. When at work it will stay asleep probably 95% of the time while on wifi. The signal strength is about the same according to wifi analyzer. Is my router chatting with it more than work? Neighbors wifi signal competing? I am stock and rooted just last night. The next thing I planned to do was load better battery stats to try to see what is eating up the battery at home. Maybe change the channel? I think work was 6 and I am using 11. I also noticed if I turn wifi off at home and use 3g it uses less and stays asleep.
It does sound like some interference, I would try changing the channel on your router to the same as your work's.
I think I figured it out. Apparently my android devices hate WEP. I know I shouldn't be running WEP but my neighbor is running open so I figured people would go after him first. Anyway after changing to open or WPA the infuse and transformer both sleep about 80% of the time with wifi always on.
Wrong again! All was fine until I added my other wireless devices back. The android devices then went back to not sleeping. Searched xda and it appears the dlink dir-655 that I have tends to do this. Strange thing is that it behaves as long as my windows computers are not connected via wireless. Any suggestions on a router with gigabit ports?
Netgear WNDR3700.
Thanks. I saw this one on newegg but the last 10-20 reviews weren't great. I assume you have or used it? Are you using stock or alternative firmware?

Stock firmware. It works well, has great coverage. I currently have three in use here at the house (fairly complex linked setup for auto failover to two ISPs and bridging) Never a problem with any of them.
Sounds like Netgear finally got their **** together. I've had many Netgear routers plagued with wacky firmware problems like shutting off DNS access because it decided the computer was infected with malware for requesting DNS too often. (affected 3 completely different Netgear routers).
However even if the stock firmware gives you problems, I believe the 3700 is very well supported by DD-WRT. I'm running DD-WRT in access-point-only mode on a 3000 or 3200 right now (I forget the exact model, it's not a 3700). As soon as I bother to buy some antennas it's getting replaced with a Ubiqiti Rocket M5 though.
Thanks I assume you have some windows devices hooked to them as well? Like I said the dir-655 works great until I fire up the laptop. One other report was some HP software is constantly polling so i will try to delete all that and maybe a few other settings but most threads have no solution.
Linux, Mac (Lion and Snow Leopard), Windows (Vista and 7), iPad, iPhone, Android, Wii, Samsung BD, Sony BD, Slingbox, all connected and functioning.
Can you set DTIM on that router? Just curious what it was set at on that router. I fiddled with that on the dlink but couldn't find a setting the tablet liked. It got better but never went to sleep like it should.
Thanks for the recommendation. I swapped out this weekend and have seen greatly improved sleep when I leave the devices idle.....over 90%
Had an issue with attached devices list being blank. There are a bunch of links on the internet about it but no solutions. For whatever reason it just started working 2 days later? Anyway, so far so good.
Thanks!
My wifi turns off almost instantly after turning on. Sometimes it will connect to my network and other times it's a no go.
This is a wifi only version and I'm still in the return window so thinking about swapping it out or just taking it back
Android Version 3.2
Kernel 2.6.36-P6210UELA3-CL616928
Build HDJ85B.UELA3
I've been googling for a couple of hours
Stock reset device and wifi sleep policy is set to never. I have nothing installed
thoughts?
I assume that other devices connect and stay connected just fine?
There are wifi tool apps (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer) that might give you a little better insight to what is happening
Yes, all other devices work fine with the router.
I have tried both DHCP and static and have assigned a specific IP to the tablet from the router.
If I could get the wifi to stay on i'd see what I could download
Edit: Seems to be something to do with the router. I have two in my house (one upstairs and one down). Both resolve back to my uverse model so the routers are just wireless bridges I guess. If I connect to the downstairs and turn wireless off and on I have no problems. If I connect to the upstairs router things go down the crapper
by chance is the upstairs router wireless-n?
Yes. the upstairs is wireless N
Think if I changed it to G only it would work better?
Solution : only connect to WiFi G ?
I have the same issue on my european GT P6210, connected to a Netgear WNDR3800, which has dual band WiFi (2.4GHz B/G/N and 5GHz A/N).
Yesterday evening, everything worked like a charm on the 2.4GHz band supporting N (up to 130Mbps) but today the connection is really random. I tried to connect to the 5GHz band network but to no avail.
So I restricted the 2.4GHz band network to B/G only (up to 54Mbps) and it is way more stable.
HTH, too bad for the DLNA streaming
in my experience the wireless N on the tab + is downright unstable. using wireless G tends to correct this problem. and since i can think of no reason i need 130mbps throughput to the tab, i see no reason not to continue using the G. disappointing though. the tab 7 experiences the same issues

Did you set the tab to only use G? or did you set the router to only broadcast G? I had to set my router to only broadcast G
I have had this problem with 3 different Galaxy tabs. Keep in mind that this is connecting to a work WIFI using wpa2 enterprise. Boggles me that it connects for like 2 mins then drops, only way to reconnect is to disable/enable the wifi. At home using wpa2 non enterprise I can connect perfectly with no drops.
The WiFi on the TF700 isn't horrible but it isn't excellent either. Has anyone found any tweaks or fixes to stabalize WiFi?

Eh? It's excellent.. I get the full amount of bars in a spot where every other device only gets 2 at most. It's never dropped for me. I download entire films over it, at the same speed as my pc and laptop...
Set your IP to static as opposed to DHCP. (long press the network --> modify --> advanced settings) This stabilizes the connection.
Set your router to channels that don't match the ones everyone else in the street uses. Use a tool like inSSIDer (http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/) to detect all the channels.
Wifi bugs are almost always router problems.
Been my experience that wireless routers are one of the most unreliable pieces of hardware in the realm of networking.

All wifi routers have short lives because of the high freq oscillators inside (more info than needed I know.)
Had the exact same a few times.
All including the Infinity were fine when accepting a Windows 7 update to my notebook then it's wifi connection freaked.
Reset the router and in one case had to assign a different pass-phrase and all returned to abynormal.
