Wifi showing 1Mbps connection speed - Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE

Hello guys,
I just received my Motorola Photon Q mobile. Asked Cornholio to do the SIM mod.
Tested my new phone yesterday with carbonROM . Well I Must say all looks good except wifi.
Wifi speed is showing me 1Mbps
My old xperia mini pro is showing me someting around 70Mbps. My wife has got new mobile too ( Lenovo Vibe X2 ) and she has 150Mbps.
Even her old Iphone 4S is showing her 70Mbps or so.
So it looks like there is some problem with my new phone.
My router is Netgear JWNR2000V2.
Do you guys have some experience with this ?
Thanks a lot

Is it actually slow?
You won't get 150 or even 70 mbps as the phone doesn't do 802.11n IIRC. G is limited to 54mbps, and that is 'ideal'. Also the phone doesn't do the 5ghz band, so you are limited to 2.4ghz.
Unless you wifi speeds are actually slow, who cares what it says it is connected at.

That's not completely right.
It does 802.11n but not the 5GHz band.
It also has only one WLAN antenna, so the speed is limited.
Looking in OpenWRT it shows for my PQ:
RX Rate -> 72.2 Mbit/s, MCS 7, 20MHz
TX Rate -> 65.0 Mbit/s, MCS 7, 20MHz
MCS Index -> http://mcsindex.com/
Btw. it is actually better using 802.11n over 802.11g.
So don't disable 802.11n in your router, consider to disable 802.11b instead.

Well yeah it is slow.
I was not able to connect or load the Google store yesterday on my new Photon Q.
But I must say it is connected. I saw some threads whre ppl were complaining that wifi is connected and disconnected after some time. I do not have this. I have just this connection speed is 1Mbps So watching youtube videos or surfing web on the phone through wifi is not possible at the moment
So I am oging to do some testing today. Hope I will find the problem.

I was never able to get my N network to connect... but I may have been forcing it to 5ghz, which explains why it wouldn't have connected.
I haven't used my Q in a year or so personally, so this was all from memory. Either way, the hardware is 3 years old at this point, so the newest wifi tech is a bit beyond its manufacture date.

@arrrghhh, sadly I cannot disable 802.11g in OpenWRT with my router (a driver limitation I guess) so I cannot test it.
There were also some limitations on wether it connects and if it is stable (a wireless setting "preamble" [short/long] caused me random crashes).
@Jovzin, if I remember right, there have been reports that a defective WiFi antenna might be the problem.
Though, I'm not sure where and how the antenna is connected. I only know that there is a "special plastic" within the phone, which replaces the antenna.

Do you think this will help ?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MOTOROLA-PH...7&pid=100005&rk=1&rkt=6&sd=131158027161&rt=nc
Cause I am desperate. I tried now to do the Wifi tether from my wife's new mobile Lenovo vibe X2 the phones were close to each other and still 1Mbps Crap
Did test with my router: When I was about 5 meters away I got 26Mbps. I got closer to router and it drops back to 1-2 Mbps. So really do not know what is happening crap.

What is your router configured to broadcast? Have you tried changing any of the settings? Are you sure the hardware is OK - did you test it before the SIM modification?

@Jovzin, it might help, yes. (Shipping costs are pretty high.)
But first you should open your PQ and take a look.
Maybe CornholioGSM just forgot to attach it correctly and you don't need to replace anything.
Also, please answer to arrrghhhs question.

Are you sure it isn't a power saving function? Try downloading something in the background and then checking the connection speed.
My droid 4 also connects at 1Mbps when the connection is idle. Laptop wireless adapters also commonly do this to save power - they show their unthrottled speed on the wireless panel but you can see it connecting at 1mbps when idle on both the router and 3rd party wireless utils.

Hello some good news.
I did a factory reset.
And now somehow it is working. And I am sure taht I have uncheckd that battery saver for wifi.
But when the phone is idle it is 1Mbps. When I am downloading somethign from store it is 65Mbps. Hmm there is some build in saver ? Which is different than this power saver wifi which I can tick in wifi options ?
Anyway I am happy that somehow it is working
Thanks for help guys
If I may one more question.
It is possible to watch HD youtube videos on PQ ? Cause in youtube app I see only 360p Was hoping that there will be option for 720 at least...

If you enabled 40mhz channel width on the router (you're using 20mhz now), you could double the 65mbps to 130mbps, but this only really works well if you're using 5ghz channel, or have a very quiet 2.4ghz channel, otherwise you're subjected to more interference.

Correct.
In 2.4GHz (what the PQ can) it is contraproductive to use 40MHz channel.
It even can be slowed down in a "noisy" environment (I gave it already up).
Also, this is ruthless to your neighbours, so don't.
In 5GHz it is only usable if you can use more than just a few channels.
Even then, it is obvious that most devices are 2.4 GHz and just "a few" can 5GHz (the PQ cannot).
So it actually is not a problem to use 40MHz channel in 5GHz. In future this might change.

[Q] WiFi N - 65Mbps limit?

As title says, I can only seem to get 65mpbs out of Wifi N on my XOOM, anybody gotten higher?
The most you're going to be able to get is 72mbps under ideal conditions, as the radio cannot do dual-channel N.
I've seen mine train to 72mbps.
Well I was just reading the spec sheet and it says it does do dual channel and 5GHz too so what am I missing?
Edit: I se that it does MSC7 which is up to 72mbps in the 20mhz and 150 in the 40mhz, no mention in the spec sheet though of whether or not this does 40 or not, although unlikely due to the bluetooth radio it could interfere with. Still, id like it to connect at 72, the router is 2 feet from it.
Pretty poor to only have wifi-n do only 72 ish, nt much better than wifi g.

Well it does do 5ghz, but I'm not sure where you see that it supports dual streams? I'm sitting on top of a triple stream wndr4000 and I connect at 72mbps on the 5ghz band like the other poster. My thinkpad has a link speed of 450mbps
Just read this today at the Motorola owners forum, you may find it useful.
Connecting to Wireless N (Explained)
Hi all,
- Xoom supports 5GHz A & N. - It is true that it can not go to 300Mbps rate. I am not aware of any mobile device that can reach this rate. Please let me know if you know one, that would be interesting data. 72Mbps is in the expected range for best N rate.
What may explain why Xoom would not see your 5GHz A or N network (or only use low rate)? - In WiFi Advanced settings, frequency band setting should be "Auto" or "5GHz only" - Your router should broadcast its SSID. (If another device that was never connected to your router can see it, it means this is ok) - Xoom supports only the main channels in 5GHz band: channels are 36 40 44 48 149 153 157 161. Can you try to set your router to one of those channels? - There has been new requirements from WiFi Alliance: we can not support WEP and WPA-PSK in N-mode. This means that if your router is set in N-only mode (does not support A mode), you should set its security to open or WPA2-PSK. If your router is set in A & N mixed mode and WEP or WPA-PSK, Xoom will not use N rates and max rate will be 54Mbps.
Please let us know if any of the above helps or not.

Terrible wifi downlink speed over 5GHz

I'm having some serious issues with my 5GHz connection on my brand new Honor 8. 2.4GHz works just fine, getting around 40Mbps which is expected for 2.4, but sometimes on 5GHz I'm not even getting 1Mbps down... However, the upload speed is mostly fine.
I have a 100/10 connection btw. Asus rt n56u router with padavan firmware. Not experiencing this issue with any other devices. I have tried changing channels on the router, and the bandwith to 20/40 only but it didn't make any difference.
What might be wrong? I appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks.

Have you tried rebooting the modem/router? Sometimes that helps.
Ps i`am getting 200-240 MB download speed on my 300 mb 5Ghz router.

Yes, multiple times, unfortunately it didn't make any difference.
However I noticed something interesting now, it only seems to suck in my room. When I went to the kitchen I was getting around 90Mbps. Can it simply be interference? But what else can there be in my specific room that operates at the same frequency? And why is only the downlink bad, and why isn't it happening to any other devices? It seems weird to me...

Use wifi analyser to check issues. Sometimes when router is set to auto channel, it may setup the connection in such a way of excellent short distance data burst but medium/long distance signal loss. Check for channel overlap.
Also 5Ghz is by nature a closer range frequency, compared to 2.4Ghz.
First you must rule out phone problem: test with other network and/or router at 5Ghz. Even using different wifi equipments doesn't mean a thing. Same chipset can have different implementations and network antenna.
Its just the range of the 5GHz signal. The maximum usable range of 5 GHz Wi-Fi is 3m and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is 12m. Thats all its nothing to do with your device. Walls etc will reduce that even further.
Max 5ghz speed only 433Mbps
Anyone know a way to get more? My router is capable of much higher speeds. On my Nexus 6P I got around 800+

1. install WiFi analyzer app and see what channels are being used most by 5GHz networks. If is set to automatic, manually set your 5 ghz network to an unused channel (try using the lower 5GHz channels instead of the upper ones)
2. there's an existing bug in Android where connecting to some IPv6 routers makes data lag. Try turning off IPv6 or at least IPv6 broadcasting on your router.
3. make sure your router firmware is up to date.

Unfortunately after further research last night I'm afraid this is simply a limitation of the of the wifi chip on the phone itself. I use wifi analyzer often and always keep my firmware up to date. I've tried adjusting various settings, even using other Wireless AC routers. 433 is the highest the phone will go. Perhaps Huawei can push an update to remedy the situation.

Really slow and spotty wifi?

Will I get OTA updates if I don't put a SIM in? I'm on C432B126 right now and I think the seller that installed it for me messed it up, I'm not getting supercharge or fast charge with the included charger just normal charging and wifi has been really slow and spotty, I've tried everything to fix the wifi issues but it's still the same, can someone shed some light on this, thanks.

I am assuming you are using 5ghz wifi. Some phones have issues with high channel >48 5ghz wifi (my lg v20, mi max and the mate9). If you use 2.4ghz only the wifi will improve. However, if you want to use 5ghz goto your router wifi channel settings and set to either channel 36 or 48. Just note the lower channels have poorer wall penetration compared to channel 150+. If you got a large house consider a solution like Google wifi. If you are still getting very poor wifi, then you may have a faulty phone (dislodged antennae maybe).
To get supercharging you will need to use the original charger + CABLE.
Try using the ampere app to see how fast your phone is charging. Anything over 2 amps I would say it is good enough unless you are in a hurry.

Then take to a service centre, probably a faulty charging port/electronics and dislodged wifi antennae.
The WiFi on the Mate 9 is the best I've ever used.
I'm sitting in my car outside the house to send this, and I've never been able to do that with any other phone.
Have to disagree about 5G channels. The higher frequencies are absorbed more by building materials. That's why 5G generally covers less than 2G. If anyone finds the top channels are better than the lower ones it will be due to antenna variations in the router or the handset.

I've heard Huawei phones in general have great signal as well, perhaps I just got a bad unit. I'm sending mine back for an exchange since it'd really be an excellent phone without these two issues.
I had been thinking of adding a WiFi extender to provide coverage when I'm working in the garage. I don't need to now - the Mate 9 works fine in there.
Having a similar problem and I'm thinking it's an incompatibility issue with my Asus N55U. Every other device in the house connects at full 300mbit over 5ghz and 150mbit at 2.4ghz to my modem but my Mate 9 maxed out at 72mbit over 2.4ghz and 150mbit over 5ghz.
The big problem is the 5ghz wifi drops to 7mbit within a few seconds, doesn't matter where in the house I am, yet it always says excellent signal. 2.4ghz stays at 72mbit but my internet is 100mbit fibre so it's still not ideal.
I've tried different 5ghz channels (right now on 40), tried N-only, 20 and 40mhz, changing wifi names, changing security type and factory resetting the phone. Nothing has worked, I get an intermittent 50KB/s to 400KB/s from the phone at 5ghz, yet I connect my laptop to the 5ghz, get a solid 300mbit and download at 11MB/s with the same distance to the router.
Going to purchase a new router and hopefully this will resolve the issue otherwise I'll be sending the phone back.
I had the same problem (about wifi) I did lots of test with my mate 9 , 2 p9lite and my ipod 5g just my mate 9 had low results sometimes half download and upload than the other devices and always a really high ping 3 or 4 times more than the other devices. I wrote to amazon and also to huawei for describe this problem and they decided to replace it so I will receive the new one tomorrow. Them said nobody report this issue about a software error so they think this is an hardware factory problem. Hope you can solve it asap like me

Hi just wondering if your replacement mate 9 was any different as far as Wi-Fi goes compared to the one you posted the problems about. I have 2 mate 9's with similar symptoms (10 times higher ping and 3-4 times slower transfer speeds compared to laptops and other Wireless A/C phones), so just trying to figure out whether they are all going to have this problem or if I happen to have defective units that would be fixed by replacement.

I ended up buying a Linksys WRT1900ACS router, the Mate 9 now connects at 433Mbit to that even though my other devices connect at near 900Mbit. Still, my internet connection is only 100Mbit so 433Mbit is fine, and certainly better than 7Mbit.
But in case you were wondering the Oreo update didn't fix the issue, so I'm guessing it's a hardware issue. Haven't really bothered investigating it further after getting the new router.

Question Terrible Wi-Fi

Hello everyone,
Is anyone of you experience terrible Wi-Fi performance as well?
In our house we have one main router on the ground floor, one more in the 1st floor (no mesh) and an access point in the attic for smart home devices.
When I'm in the garden I can only see the access point and the ground floor router. When I'm connected to the ground floor router the signal is very bad and keeps on disconnecting even though the distance is maybe 15 meters with only one wall in between. I cannot even see the network from the first floor router.
With my OnePlus 9 Pro I was able to see and connect to it, even though the router is on the other side of the house.
Another thing to mention is, that with the OnePlus I could see 10+ networks from surrounding neighbour's and with the Samsung it's only 2.
Im quite happy with the device, but this is really bothering me. I'm not using some crazy case or sth, just the Samsung clear one.
Thanks for reading, any thoughts?
You didn't say if you was on 2G or 5G? Have tested both? What Routers are they? Hard to help without more details about your setup. I have a Netgear AC1750 Router and 2G is crap at around 50mbps on Speed Test and 5G is much better at 250mbps. But it's a single story house with just the sole Router at one end.

I have separate networks for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. 2.4 is better for range and my internet is only 50mbit so speed doesn't really matter to me. Main router is a fritzbox and the second router is from some cheap brand. The setup shouldn't really matter though because it is still working fine with my OnePlus.

That's still kinda vague. What router models are they? Also, if you're running multiple routers, you're going to have problems. In a non-mesh environment, the second router should be configured as either an access point, or as an extender.
You could also be having an interference problem. Either between your routers and AP or from external interference from any neighbors' networks.
In any case, you'd be better served by swapping out your current equipment and switch to a mesh system. I use Google's Nest Wifi with one router and three mesh access points. However, there are several other mesh systems that work well.

Thank you for your comment.
The main router is a AVM FRITZ!Box 7590 AX (Amazon) and the secondary is a cheap Tenda AC6 AC1200 (Amazon). Having multiple routers in a a non-mesh environment shouldn't really be a problem. The Tenda is connected via LAN interface, providing it's own network with its own SSID. It's only for a few devices very close by.
I know there can occur problems due to interferences, but I didn't think it was a problem because the Samsung is the only device having issues. I can try messing with the bands, but honestly I don't think it's going to change anything.

Your setup overly complicated. You are essentially running three SSIDs (One for the FRITZiBox, one for the Tenda, and one for the attic AP). Either reconfigure the Tenda as an access point, or pull it out completely. The problem seems to be the handoff between your primary and secondary router. Your primary router should be able to handle the 1st and 2nd floors easily.
Another question. How many smart home (IoT) devices are connected? The Tenda is capable of only 20 devices. Since the Tenda is upstairs, it's going to have better range than the downstairs router (there is a reason why people tend to place antennas higher up). The AP in the attic is not a router and if it is connected to the Tenda via LAN, the Tenda may be running short on capacity. Since it is higher up, your S22U is probably trying to connect to that device.
The way I see it, you have three options:
1. Install a mesh setup. You have one router, with two mesh points (one on the 2nd floor, one in the attic) running one SSID on both 5GHz and 2GHz bands.
2. Remove the Tenda and move your AP to the 2nd floor. The AP can easily handle the smart home devices, and provide WiFi to the second floor and attic. It will also reduce you down to two SSIDs.
3. Remove the Tenda, move the FRITZiBox to the second floor and connect it to your internet modem (or whatever device you get internet through) via LAN (you said the LAN is already run between 1st and 2nd floors). Connect the attic AP to the FRIZTiBox (via LAN). That should give you enough WiFi coverage and reducing to two SSIDs.
1 billion issues can cause wifi problem....
1) airport\military base near you
2) powerfull microwave
3) neighbor on the same channel
4) device power management
5) bad case (bad plastic - put in microwave...if it heats its BAD)
6) bad antenna inside of device (return it to factor)
8) in-wall powerline 240v
etc...

Running an Asus RT-AC68U router. I get good 5Ghz signal in every room, the basement, the garage and in the car behind the garage.
Not sure what the issue is but it could be your device.
I highly recommend upgrading to a Wifi6 environment if you have a S22 (but not necessarily Wifi6e). The S22's support 160MHz channels which allows for up to a 2.4Gig multi-stream connection with your phone. My phone will connect anywhere from 1.2-2.4gig in/outside my house depending upon where I'm at in relation to my router. My internet is only 500/500, however, I noticed wifi was much snappier with my S22u over my older Wifi6 phone which used 80MHz channels.

Question S22 Ultra (US Version) slow WiFi speeds

Hello All,
As the title says. Anyone experiencing slow WiFi download speeds? I get 50~100Mbps down and 800+Mbps up. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max next to me and it's getting 500+ on UP and DOWN speeds. All things point to a Samsung issue, the rest of the WiFi devices are doing much better on 2.4ghz and 5ghz.
I've test various settings on the router itself. Different channels, Channel bandwidth (40,80,160) , and the issue still persists.
My router is an ASUS RT-AX82U and it's about ~10 ft from phone.
Any feedback would help. Seems like Samsung is struggling with WiFi 6 issues. My Tab S7+ can't even connect to the new WiFi 6.

Updated my router a couple weeks ago to TP-Link WiFi 6e, I only use WiFi 6 cause only a couple devices support the 6 ghz band. But I'm getting between 800-890 mbps down consistently. On a U1 S22 Ultra. It's about the same on the 6ghz band as well.

My S22u connects to a Nighthawk AX5700 wifi6 router (Costco model) at 1.2 - 2.4 Gbps depending on how close I am to my router. I get 500up/500down pretty much everywhere in my house (this equates to my Fios internet speed) utilizing 160Mhz channel width. This is with no changes to my S22u wifi setup out of the box.
Also of interest is the type of phone case, if any, you are using.
I'm getting 339Mbps down 23Mbps up on Speed Test. My internal is 650Mbps, I don't have a WiFi 6 router.
Seems like this is an issue. https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S22/S22-ultra-5ghz-wifi-issue/td-p/2204964

Spectrum 400/20. I get 478/23 from a wired connection.
329 Mbps down, 16.1 Mbps up @ 5 GHz on a 300/15 plan

Paying for 1 gig UP and DOWN. Ethernet PC I get ~900 UP/DOWN. Wifi on an iPhone 12 Pro Max I get ~500+ UP/DOWN. Other laptops I get similar numbers as the iPhone.
At first I thought it was the router but I did replace the ASUS with a Linksys Wifi 6E and same issue with phone. Also distance and number of devices connected doesn't matter I've tried just 1 phone 1 router and literally standing next to it same issue.
bounddyy & gernerttl can you both:
1. Post a screen shot of your connection speed next to your router like pic below.
2. Confirm you are on the latest version of ur routers firmware.

My current connection. I'm less than 4 ft. from my router.
I have a Google Nest WiFi with three mesh APs. Google automatically updates, so mine has the latest firmware.
The Google Nest WiFi is not WiFi 6e.

Ok good info. Is your backhaul from the mesh APs to your router via wired or wireless connection?
Not sure if you have installed any wifi debug/info apps? I use Net Analyzer and it would be great to see a screen shot of your 5G spectrum in graph form like below.
I have a Verizon FiOS symmetrical Gigabit link. My PC gets 900+ on both uploads and downloads over ethernet, and around 500 by 500 on wifi. My S22 Ultra Qualcomm version seems to max out at 360 to 400 down and 60 to 150 up. I have a Ubiquity Dream machine pro with their wifi 6 LR Access point (in a one-bedroom apartment, around 8 feet from the Wireless AP).
The speed test were run within a minute of each other, using the same remote server.
I wanted to remove wifi as a variable, so I tested a USB C to ethernet adapter, yet download speeds are still limited to 300, and upload jumped to 700 Mbps.
Does the S22 Ultra have some bandwidth restrictions or other issues?
I have screenshots if that helps.
Curious if anyone else has tested their S22 Ulta network speed using a USB to ethernet adapter.
Thank you,
Ryan
are u on wpa2-aes?
I have Fios 500 up/down and I get 545 up and 500 down on my S22u. Check your wifi connection speed on your phone to ensure its connected to your router at a speed that is greater or equal to your internet speed.
Just got 381/23.3 Mbps down/up (WiFi); and my Tab S7 is getting 355/22.3 Mbps down/up (WiFi). Both were about three feet away from the router.
As a comparison, my Dell desktop is getting 476/22.4 Mbps down/up (wired).
I consistently at or near the bandwidth I am paying for. I have Google Nest WiFi with three mesh points. I am paying for 400/20 Mbps down/up.

So again, check your wifi connection speed on your phone to ensure its connected to your router at a speed that is greater or equal to your internet speed. Settings->Connections->Wifi->Your SSID->gear.
This will show you the connection speed between your phone and the router. If this is less than your internet speed then you will never get what you paid for. Most wifi speed issues are within the home wifi network, not the phone.
Btw, my phone connects to my home wifi6 network between 1.2 -2.4Gbps so achieving the full 500 up/down speed I'm paying for to the internet is not an issue.

866 Mbps connection to my router, Google WiFi Nest is not WiFi 6. Even if it was WiFi 6, I won't get faster than what my ISP provides, which is 400/20 Mbps.
P. S. I have the Verizon S22 Ultra.

I also have a UDMP router and Unifi U6 AP. On speedtests (not WiFi link speed), My S22U Snapdragon can reach 1.9 Gbps on 160MHz channel width and 900 Mbps on 80MHz channel width. Download/upload speeds are the same for me.
There are no bandwidth restrictions. The problem is your Wi-Fi setup. Make sure you're using 80MHz channel width and a relatively clean Wi-Fi channel (check with WiFi Analyzer app to find cleanest channel). Also make sure to test in the same room as AP with a clear line of sight to see maximum throughput.
