Hello everybody,
to begin with i must say that my phone's battery used to take 2 to 3 hours max to charge from wall charger but now since i flashed the ROM and it has been acting so weird when charging. I have monitored the charging time and found that
after 1hr the battery goes to 50 %
after 3 hrs its up to 70%
after 5 hrs its up to 89%
then after being on charge for 6 hrs its fully charged !!!
p.s the battery lasts the normal time it used to.
so what's going wrong here?
your help is much appreciated!
You're using the same charger right? I believe aftermarket chargers are slower and suck!

Yes its the same original charger!!
The only suggestion I have now is to double check if it's really because of the rom?
Try using another rom for a day or so and see if it also takes you that long to recharge. Don't restore apps or anything yet either! (could be an app causing it, however that's unlikely) Mine only takes long to charge if I'm using too much stuff while charging it.
It is normal. Charge voltage is lowered when reaching 70% (or 80%, you can check it at battery stats) and then even lower when almost full until it is really 100%, not to harm the battery pack. Your previous cycles only semmed faster, the more you use your phone the better your battery stats will be.
If you wiped battery stats before, it could be another reason for strange figures.
Most importantly, if you want to have a good battery life on the long run, dont fully discharge/charge it.
Coming from a Nexus 4 I have got used to charging my phone every night. The battery on the z3 is a lot better, it comes off the charge at 5am and as I type it is 10pm and the battery is still on 66%.
Would I be doing the battery any harm by putting it on the charge every night? I know it can last me through work tomorrow but I like the have it fully charged for peace of mind.

Lithium Ion batteries last a number of charges, slowly losing the capacity to hold charge as the number of charges increases. Why don't you charge the phone when it needs charging? You can always use stamina mode to keep it going until you get to a charger if you need it to last a few more hours.
I believe its about 350-500 cycles to 80% capacity. Also when your phone says 0% Battery its more like 60% (Don't quote me on that) capacity to prolong battery life.
You should be fine for the life of the device.

you should not be worry about battery problem in xperia because there 2 power saving option normal stamina and ultra stamina so you can take your phone for whole day usage even on ~60% of battery

Standby is really good. If you go to sleep at 66%, it will likely be at 66 or 65% when you wake up. You might not need to charge till tomorrow night.

You don't complete a discharge cycle, when you charge with some charge % left so its good to charge it, you are fine.
I charge it every night. It is between 40-60% full when i connect it. If there are some 350-500 charge cycles untill capacity drops to 80% then it is time to upgrade anyway so...
for lithium ion batteries in mobile phones just recharge as it suits your day. Yes, you might be able to preserve some single digit percent over the long run but there won't be any dramatic losses if you don't take special care
Hello guys! So I just bought an extended battery from Zerolemon for my S5.
My question is, should I charge it for 12 hours before prior use like the manual stated? Or fully discharge it first before charge as some reddit folks suggested?

After first full charge, run it down to 2% like it also recommends. Help to condition battery, I do it to mine once in a while. Have this one for almost a year now and it is working quite well, can't say there has been any depreciation to run time yet.
Which app is this ??

That is correct,
I may be mistaken as I don't have the little instruction sheet., but there is some additional time in hours after the phone says it has reached 100% full charge that it needs to remain connected to finish "topping" of the battery. Although I would argue that it is almost impossible, given that any algorithm the phone uses to charge one brand of lithium battery vs. another hasn't changed when the battery has been swapped out, and charging should stop once the phone see the correct internal voltage. Yet ZeroLemom recommends to leave it to charge.
The final ~10% is quite misleading as far as how long it will stay on before it finally turns off due to low voltage cut out. I had mine running for over a day and a half sometimes before it finally turns off. Very annoying that low battery message, would have liked to know a way to change the notification, or either actually entering a new mAh rating in the ROM's data so a more accurate approximation of useful charge still remaining can be properly calculated/displayed.

I see, thanks for the tip. Last question, how did you treated the battery after the first charge cycle? Did you still charged it for 12 hrs or only until the phone says it is "charged"?

I personally only left it on for about 8 hours. Typically plugging the phone in to the charger when going to sleep and disconnecting when I wake.

Hey so I got it last 2 days ago and it on its way to its first discharge now. Should I fully let the battery drain to 0% or just charge it when it hits 1%? What would you do?
It's really up to you, I would at least reach the 2%. Any further past that point may or may not matter. I've let it go before until it turns off on its own, but like I said in a previous post the low battery warnings drove me nuts.

I have the 8500 mah one, but in my phonr settings s5 G900F running sixperience 7.1 and it still shows like 2300 size in settings.. is that a problem or?
In the last 10 days or so, I have noticed that battery care isn't activated when I charge my phone overnight. I always check to make battery care is on and I leave my phone left on overnight too. 4 weeks previous to this issue, I hadn't been experiencing any such issues.
Any suggestions guys?

I had the same problem after previous weekend, it worked perfectly till Thursday but when I didn't charge it overnight from Friday till Sunday it stopped working and activated itself again yesterday.
Thought that it would learn that I charge the phone overnight only during work days and don't during weekends.
Still I think it's a great idea but it seems that it needs longer learning or some changes.

It's very stupid I think; they should've allowed the user to set the wake up time instead of "learning", it has never worked correctly for me, its always 1-2 hrs off which makes it kind of useless. I hope they can do it in a future update.
Still having no luck with battery care. Would a factory reset likely to resolve the issue?

They should allow to select the timewe want to charge it fully to 100% manually as well in the software update.
Or at least tie into system alarms!

I find that if I do a short charge during the day, it disrupts the Battery Care functionality (overnight) and then has to re-learn with a few normal overnight charges.
This seems to nullify the benefit of Battery Care as my phone would now sit on the charger for long periods at 100% again while re-learning...exactly what Battery Care is suppose to prevent.
I might as well just do small charges during the day when convenient so I don't have to charge overnight and "ruin" my battery further while it re-learns. Frustrating.
I really hope they get this feature sorted out.
It helps me to plug the phone in, go to settings, switch battery care off then back on and it usually works. I still keep the setting on all the time. Also I typically restart my phone after plugging it in every night and closing backround running apps. It seems to minimize any bugs I have experienced.

Does the phone need to be left turned on during the night while charging for this to work? I have the phone coming and I was under the impression that this battery feature would work even with the phone turned off. Any clarification is appreciated.

I have also tried turning Battery Care on and off with no success unless it was already dialed in to begin with. In that event, it would then work. I'll try restarting the phone first next time it acts up...although I think I've done that too before.
Regarding small charges during the day, it is usually due to not starting the day with a full charge such as when ending the previous day with, say, 50% left or so. Or it could be due to the battery running out before the day is finished from heavy camera use, etc.
My understanding about L-ION batteries is that small charges that add up 100% in total (like five separate 20% charges) equal one charge cycle. So no harm doing small charges...

I'm pretty sure that that phone needs to be on because it is a piece of software that needs to run which controls it.
That said, I've not tested it with the phone off.
Any time you reverse the charge current is one cycle. How far down you discharge is your depth of discharge. So even if you drain the phone from 80% to 70% and plug it in and only charge it back up to 80%, that's one cycle. What you are saying would be true if you don't discharge the battery at all, similar to what Sony does with their battery care. You can charge lithium in short bursts but if you discharge between those charges then you are cycling your battery. So no, short incomplete charges aren't absolutely detrimental to your battery but will be considered in regards to your overall cycle life. For every 70 millivolt (roughly 10%) drop in voltage during a cycle, your overall cycle life is cut in half. Meaning you'll get twice as many cycles if you only drain your phone to 60% instead of 50%. To take full advantage of the chemistry, it is best to fully charge before discharging. You could expect 2500-3000 cycles at 10% depth of discharge, but only 500-700 or so at 50% depth of discharge before capacity is 70% of what it's rated. This is information I got from Cadex Labratories and deal with on a daily basis at work.

Should I follow this suggestion? Or keep small cycle of charges by using accubattery suggestion to plug off when I reach 80%?

I wouldnt. Doubt it would but would but i find it pointless. It charges pretty quick and wouldnt want to leave it charging for 5+hrs The battery is superb i would quick charge a few mins before bed. Ive gone to bed with 19% and had 17% when i woke the next morning.

Yeah I know but i work in the morning at 7 thats why . I use it at night leave it at about 10%
Been doing that with my phones for years, haven't had a problem yet.
technically with Lith Ion the less you let it die all the way the better it is for the battery.

It's not going to outright destroy the battery, but definitely better not to keep it on the charger. I cannot speak to your schedule and work environment. I charge mine mid day at work. If your usage is generally the same on a daily basis, just find a spot where you can squeeze in a charge or two during the day.
Always changed overnight for ever I can Remeber. Never faced any issues.

1st of all in modern battry charging technology overnight charging doesnt harm battery at all as lith ion batt never get overcharged..bcoz once its 100%(max threshold) charging stop and phone use batt powr
after that once it get around 100% ( lower threshold) it start charging again...
STILL I PERSONAL ADVICE TO CHARGE OVERNIGHT WITH FASTCHARGING MODE OFF(((OFFF)).

As far as I know, technically wireless chargers are worse for the battery than a wired. They produce more heat, which technically will have a larger impact on the battery. That being said, I doubt there is any appreciable difference.

Good point. Does ths fan cooler on the wireless one prevent as much heat?
The battery retains 95% battery life after a year of normal charging, I wouldn't worry about depreciation. Relax and enjoy the phone

Stick with the samsung fast charger. I have a lot of other ones, and only the samsung stay cool (fan) and doesn't cycle like the cheap ones do.
Yes, as most have said, you can charge overnight. I have done this every single night for years, on all my flagship devices. Smartphone batteries have technology in them to stop charging when they hit 200% and only trickle charge them. It won't do any damage or won't cause long term battery life issues.
Just turn off fast charge if you're going to charge overnight.

I have the new Samsung wireless fast charger and I'd say it's just a tad warm kinda like the USB-C charging

I've also heard the opposite, as wireless chargers charge slower they put less pressure on the battery which helps it not degrade as fast. How much difference it would make either way I dont know, possibly hardly any.
I do know keeping it between 40-80 is widely regarded as being a lot better for li-ion battery degradation than going to 100% all the time or running it really low. Accubattery for example will say you used about 0.2 battery cycles going from 35% to 80%, but 0.92 battery cycles going from 55% to maximum. They are probably just using that 40-80 rule to work it out, but assuming it is correct, you can see how much effect it has, being nearly 5x more battery cycles despite both being around a 50% charge up.
So charging it overnight will get it to maximum, which isn't great in terms of battery cycles. I have seen a couple of battery apps that I think can manage charging so that it notifies you at 80% to unplug it, but I don't think they can actually stop the charge at 80% if you leave it plugged in (althought I might be wrong on that). Again how much real difference it will make I don't really know, and it probably depends how long you plan on keeping the phone, 1 year then it shouldn't be too much of an issue, 2 years or more and I would probably at least try to keep it between 40-80% when possible.

Been using wireless charging since the note 3 and always please it on the charger when im next to it and not using my phone.

I used Ampere to check how much current was going to my phone when it was fully charged and it read 0.0 so I believe the phone cuts off the charging function when fully charged. As even on 100% without the "fully charged" portion on, it will still show trickling voltage.
Hope this helps. I also advise turning fast charging off at night just to be safe.
