Anyone care to help a noob rooting his xperia z3? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so i got my xperia back from warranty. and i´ve rooted it back when i had kitkat via the locked bootloader exploit. now im 100% stock with the latest update. i still have the kitkat tft. can i just flash it via flashtool and do the locked bootloader root again and flash a rooted lollipop rom via zxdual recovery? please spoon feed me a little
Anyway heres what i thing im gonna do:
1 flash the kitkat tft via the flashtool.net tool
2 run the locked bootloader exploit to root
3 backup TA keys
4 flash xzdualrecovery?
5 flash a pre-rooted lollipop rom.
Is that what i need to do ?

Why did you bother downgrading then? That roots lollipop as well, and you should be aware your IMEI number is now on a server somewhere in China

jd is just trying to point you in the right direction: knowledge by intentional research.
as he said, you will lose root. after the ota you can simply reflash the latest superSU in recovery to gain root again. no wiping. bootloader will remain unlocked.

Assuming you meant "tweaks": If you modified any system files (or installed/modified a framework etc), you cannot take OTA update. It will likely fail. You will need to be completely stock (being rooted and/or custom recovery doesn't matter) - stock ROM, stock kernel

jd1639 gave you links to useful threads that you REALLY should read. Those threads cover a LOT of scenarios, and duplicating that information here in another thread is really not beneficial to the community. If you want to know how to do things right, read those threads - at least the first 2 posts in the two threads jd1639 linked to. Else, if things go wrong (because you didn't provide sufficient information in your thread), you are going to be creating a new thread "Help - my phone is stuck in bootloop"

Are there any limitations with systemless root? My main objectives with root would be installing Titanium Back Up and Adfree. How do you handle OTA updates?

Titanium is what I used it for and it works fine. Since I don't plan on taking the OTA, I haven't really worried about that. I'm running the last 6.0 soak test and when a final becomes available, I'll just flash that. IMHO, it's much safer that way anyway. ES Explorer is the only app I can't get root access for, Root Explorer works fine though but ES never even asks for root.

After the zip installation the first and second boot can't past the boot logo, while at the third attempt has been a success, maybe it's because you doesn't use twrp in temporary mode or because you have do a backup in the internal storage, in my moto g 2013 twrp backups in internal storage cause the brick of the phone.

Hopefully dev editions can just odin a package that doesn't include the bootloader.
Also, I did not expect WiFi calling or advanced audio with this.
This is exciting Jrkruse and the devs please do your thing!

I'm sure there will be a method to root it on dev editions.
Like, maybe odin flash a tar without the bootloader and recovery, then before booting into system, immediately boot into TWRP, flash SuperSU, reboot to bootloader, odin flash a tar with just the bootloader and recovery, boot to system, re-unlock bootloader.
Shrug. Someone will figure it out.

Aboot is the part of the bl that tells unlocked/locked. We may just be able to only flash sboot (secondary bl) from MM and it would work. I don't have a dev edition so I have no idea.
Also, for us on unlocked bl, they may have updated the EMMC firmware, so we SHOULD NOT try to unlock on MM.

Backup TA in Nougat

Is it okay to back up my TA in Nougat or should I downgrade first ?
Thanks!
I don't think you can backup your TA above Lollipop, I think you must downgrade It to 5.0 lollipop in the first place and use Iovyroot to extract The TA.
Wait for a confirmation but I guess I'm right

The intention is to make a TA Partition backup, so if you advice to downgrade software that implies unlocking the bootloader so loosing TA Partition. I´m one of those waiting for an efective way of making TA partition backup on Nougat! Still waiting

at this moment it doesn´t exist an efective way of downgrading without loosing your TA. We´ll have to wait for a new xploit that performs a temporary root and a TA partition backup on Nougat.
I guess you can downgrade using a TFT using Flashtool without unlocking your bootloader? Maybe I'm wrong.
