Hi I am Pamela. I have retrieved my original email from a gmail forum unfortunately they didn't give me my password kust a password reset..I have the original and a backup sd card with the original sim card..I was using hangouts and mms which was sms and mms messages without transferring from one to the other..How can I retrieve my hangouts and mms/sms from my android phone gs3 4.2.2..I had a 4.3 but they sent me a refurbished 4.2.2 without paying attention. I backed up everything to cloud and they have no idea where my messages went. They blame google because its hangouts. I have 250thousand text messages from 1/5/2014 until now..I was able to retrieve some with sms backup and restore. Unfortunately the most important ones are from 1/5-2014/1/6/2015..1/5/2014/to 12/30/2014 are very important.
I am still lost in all this unfortunately I am no expert. That's why I came to the experts. .I'm grasping from every angle for 2 years of retrieving a gmail which they did but left me the new password reset so I could put my new phone number in..I have an account online that found 145 thousand text messages but I can't get in without the password to reset it. Gcloud..Verizon blames google because its hangouts it came with my phone I had to install on this one and its an 4.2.2 instead of the one I bought 4.3..I would be so grateful for any help.Pamela
I have to take my phone to someone that understands my serious issues I cant do this anymore I feel as if im a burden and I am because i don't understand.

Hi
I have an xda 2.
I recently carried out a hard reset to clean up my xda 2.
Unfortunately when I tried restoring my back up (from active sync) there appears 2 be a problem with old sms messages.
I had created a number of sub-folders where I had moved my old messages.
I can see the old sms messages in the folder but I can not open, read or forward them. There are no problems with new sms messages.
Has anyone come acrosss this before and can you advise me on how to retrieve these please?
Thanks.
Salim
....No response...does noboby love me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I've had a look through the forums and have foubd similarish problems but nothing seems to help
This is wht I have done so far
1. Downloaded mobile vault to interrogate my back up - but this has proved futile as when I go to where I believe the sms messages are the ones I want are blank (even though I can see them in the sms folder but not expand them).
2. I downloaded Jeye Mobile companion and Jeyo Outlook extender
JMC did not help much
Jeyo Outlook Extender will let me read the SMS messages that are in my inbox (but not accessible via the XDA II). However, any stored in the other folders I have set up are not accessible (I don't seem to be able to see the folders I have set up on the XDA II).
3. I have performed more hard resets - and backups any sms in the back up (even in the inbox) suffer the same fate of not being readable (But I have now backed up mu more recent ones elsewhere).
Well I'm exhausting my options now.
Any help would be more than welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(I have searched the forums but haven't had much luck - if anyone knows of a similar post that has had a reply then could they point me to it).
Any news
Has anyone ever found a way round this?
Similar problem - looking for a solution also.
I had to restore after my SPV M2000 hard reset itself and I cannot view Old or NEW sms messages (apart from when the message bubble is shown as a new message arrives). My messaging inbox, drafts, outbox and deleted items all show the number of messages in them, but I cannot view or access any of them.
Is there any way these messages can be accessed or deleted?
Help!!
Any solution yet
Hi... has anyone figured a way around this yet?
I've spoken to someone at o2 and they said it had something to do with the way the inbox is recognised/linked.
After a hard reset the system is given a new id...but the old messages are linked to an older id....
There must be someway around this.
If I can see the message headers surely there must eb a way of reading the messages!!!!!
HELP PLEASE
A work around if you're stuck
I use Sprite backup which caused this problem after a restore. After raising it with their support team they supplied me with the attached file which allows SMS messages to be received and read.
BE AWARE that all messages on the device will be deleted, but new messages received will work. This will erase SMS, MMS & any emails that are on the device, so use with caution. Make sure you have a full backup!!!
Hey guys,
I'm looking to ditch my Desire in a month or two for a Samsung Focus, the only problem is that I want to save a LOT of my SMS messages to my SIM card, but haven't found one solution to this. I've searched around for an app that can export all of my messages to my SIM (not just one-by-one), but haven't found anything. I know there's apps that export your SMS stuff to the microSD card, but I'm pretty sure the only way to retrieve your old SMS messages on Windows Phone 7 (at least from vacating another OS) is to grab them from your SIM card. I've looked around and have found some Gmail apps that backup your messages to your Gmail account, but that is not what I'm looking for.
If any of you guys can give some advice on how to do this, please respond as soon as you can. I really would hate to lose 3800 messages.
Thanks!

Not sure if you're willing but if you port your number to Google Voice all your text messages are in the cloud and will sync for every device you install GV on.

dont i have to cancel my contract for that
I use SMS Backup+ and it does backup text messages done through hangouts but I cannot restore texts to hangouts from these backups.
I have read that SMS Backup and Restore does work on KitKat and our N5s but there may be a hoop or two you have to jump through.
I need to find a good auto backup and ability to restore my texts, I miss that from my previous Android phones.

Downloaded SMS Backup and restore. Downloaded the back up from my google drive . Restored the messages and a message appeared that i will have to set the default app to SMS Backup and Restore . Did that and then made Hangout the default app. all the restored messages appeared in hangout.
After this you can install any of the SMS apps from the play store like Go SMS Pro , Textra etc etc . Once this is done, Go to the settings of Hangout and uncheck the option of Hangout as the SMS app . All your text messages will now appear in the new SMS app you have downloaded from the play store.

Oh, sorry, I totally forgot that some people are still on contracts. But once your contract is up in the future that would be a viable solution.
Assuming you're on Sprint with that contract you can also integrate your Sprint number with Google Voice which will have the exact reversible effect as permanently porting it.
Besides some backup and restore solutions that some other guys left above there really isn't anything that will sync your text messages.
Hi I posted the same message to Whatsapp support but I think that this forum might provide a faster and better answer.
I suffered a broken phone and set up Whatsapp on a new phone a few days later. I set up Whatsapp fresh on the new phone without restoring a backup. In the few days before the new phone arrived I used Whatsapp web to communicate (the new version that doesn't require a phone to be online). Now after setting up Whatsapp on the new phone, when visiting the Whatsapp web site, it shows the unpaired/unconnected state with the barcode. Is it possible to extract the messages previously stored in Whatsapp web or did it throw away all data the moment it realized a new phone account was set up?
Also, I'm a (non-Android) dev, so this is also interesting to me from a technical perspective. Does Whatsapp web store messages in local storage or only the encryption keys (and the encrypted messages stay on the server)?
Thanks
So yeah, I had already figured out that a tool like iSMS2droid lets you transfer the messages from iphone to android by downloading the iCloud backup that has the message in it but it notably left the photos and videos that I sent/recevied not in the messages and replaced them with blank messages.
Is there a way to completely transfer this media? Also, do the paid services like drfone actually transfer the media in the text messages along with the texts themselves?----That's basically my question. The following is just some ramblings that may help you answer the quesiton, thank you for your time again.
People have said that it wouldn't be possible because you're trying to turn iCloud data into android data but that's what iSMS2droid does so I think it should be possible, plus I think I have downloaded all this data in some weird forme anyway and it's just sitting there waiting to be used!
