Hi,
with due regards to all the hard work this forum members have put in creating and maintaining ROMs, one question popped up :
can we trust them?
would it be possible for someone building a custom ROM to place a script on the installation zip that transmits user data or credentials to the ROM maker? Who checks the authenticity of the ROM? Is there a check done before someone is allowed to release their ROM?
asking these, coz most of my banking and financial apps would be installed on android phone flashed with a custom rom.
please guide.
That's a good question. And the simple answer is that if you want to use the rom you'll have to trust them. There is no formal review process. This forum is self policed. However, there are a lot of smart and honest people here and if someone finds something funny going on in the rom it will be reported in the rom thread. That's not good advertising for the rom developer(s). In my years on XDA I've only seen that once, maybe twice.

This is a place for discussion for more people who are experienced, thats why its called "development" as for themes those are under the "themes" section.....
if your looking for n00b resources for full on n00bs please don't post annoying threads here. Learn to look **** up on google and in under 10 seconds you would have found
http://theunlockr.com/category/howto/android_how_tos/
for how to root, one click rom install, and how to restore back to factory. Or even above your own damn post there are n00b resrouces.
as for ROMs this is the DEVELOPMENT section. So people need to stop asking for a perfect rom. Use cyanogen stable roms if you want stablility. If not ROMs come out every 2-3 days for evil and every couple weeks for other ROMs. They are NOT stable
Qtek=fastest most stable does not work on most MT3G (this is believed to be kernel issues with 2.7xxxx)
Evil= 50/50 depending on his builds, he likes to f* stuff up alot and patch within a few hours
cyanogen 4.1.11.1=android 1.6 AOSP(android open source project)

Cheers James
rooting your phone gives you controll of the / files of yoru phone. It lets you install roms and such. i suggest looking at the latest video of rooting your magic and the video of how to install a rom. it'll put you right at par with where alot of users on this forum are at. only like 15 mins of video too.

Hi all,
I have the 4.3 Locked Bootloader RUCML1
First mistake I did was accepting the OTA.
But the 2nd biggest mistake of my life was, installing ALLIANCE ROM.
This is the worst ROM. No Support.
IT IS FULL OF PROBLEMS.
I repeat, this ROM is full of Problems. Basic features like MAKING CALLS AND CONNECTING TO WIFI also doesnot work.
I downloaded, and followed every rule more than 5 times, and this my experience.
This is my sincere suggestion for people like me, to go for another ROM but not for Alliance ROM.
This is the most useless ROM for 4.3 Locked Bootloader.
NOTE : This is my personal Experience. Even after reading this, You want to try Alliance ROM, then its upto You.
I don't work for any company. I want to share my experience with fellow, xda users.
No intention to start a Fight or argument. Just to help fellow Americans.
Thank You and Peace.
If you were that stupid and do all things you did, then don't blame the rom. That rom is just fine. blame yourself and your stupidity.

I've used this rom several times with no issues. No issues that aren't on any other TW based rom. So please don't blame the rom. It's one of the best and most customizable TW rom's out there along with MOAR and Wicked.. Research Read, then re-read, then research more and then search and read some more.. if you can't find an answer most are polite enough to answer as long as you ask and do you homework first..
So you installed the rom and most likely didn't flash the proper modules and/or modems because you don't know what you're doing and is the roms fault?
You know name calling isn't allowed here but I really want to, it's just this thread and your mistakes are so stupid that it's almost worth it. You obviously failed to follow the directions, in fact a simple search of your issues in the forums would point you to a fix (of something that's not broken) flash your appropriate module and radio and see if you still have the same issues. Another thing, just because you showed up 3 years after the rom came out doesn't mean it isn't supported, you showed up 3 years too late my friend, it had tons of support from a bunch of amazing devz. Peace out you weird not nice person.
This kind of thing isn't tolerated here, disrespecting other members and their work...
Thousands of downloads, one thread about issues that could have been avoided.
There is inherent risk ANY time you decide to flash something. There are disclaimers, instructions and recovery options throughout the op of every rom thread.
Consider this a one and only warning about this type of behavior. Thread closed.
Hi,
I am a newbie and this is my first post. I am new to the Android world and purchased my first Android phone (LG G3 D852).
1. Can I use the Stock Lollipop KDZ files for D855 to flash D852?
2. How safe is it to use custom ROMS? Could it be possible that Custom ROMS (CM, Candy, others..) have hidden malware that will capture personal data and send to remote systems?
3. What does it mean when they "BUMP" a Flash ROM?
Thanks,
Sam.
Hi,
Welcome to XDA Assist.
1.) You can't do that and shouldn't do it. It might perma brick. Check this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/help-thread-lg-g3-question-t2947298
if you have further questions then register on forum and post in that thread.
2.) Good question. No can tell the answer. Therotically they can . Practically ,ROMs like CyanogenMod are professional and liable to damages if found guilty. Other ROMs are community ROMs and don't pass any sort of regulating authority as such. This is a hacker community, so a ROM user is supposed to be responsible for his own security. If you are not sure whether to trust a custom ROM then don't use it. Pretty simple.
3.)It means a ROM/firmware update usually.
Have a good day !
You guys (admins) have made this site so difficult to navigate, so please move this thread to the appropriate subforum.
Anyway, I currently own a Samsung Galaxy Neo Plus (i9060M) and would like to make a backup of the stock rom as it is not available for downloading ANYWHERE! Yes, this must be a very rare low-end device that nobody uses.
How can I accomplish the above-mentioned task without rooting, if that's even possible.
Also, do any of you know of any methods I could try to root my device? *this is not as important, as I will probably try all possible steps JUST AFTER BACKING UP the stock rom., but if you have some idea, I'd appreaciate it*
Thanks
If I couldn't find and install the stock ROM, I wouldn't mess it up unless throwing the device in the trash bin was no loss. What about these?
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/search/i9060M/
About root, Google has the answer, and it's here on xda.
none of those work for me.
I actually found the stock rom for my device, but its hosted on some slow/restricted site and I cannot download it LOL.
If any of you can do me a favor and download it, then reupload it elsewhere, I would appreciate it

People must be earning millions of dollars hosting files on those ****ty servers.
I searched more sites for rom but didn't find
Hello,
Welcome to XDA.
If you want a ROM to be made for your device you have 3 options
1)Wait for someone that has your device and the knowledge to build a ROM.
2)Find someone with the knowledge that has your device and get them to build the ROM.
3)Find someone with the knowledge and donate a device like yours to them so they can test the ROM they build.
4)Find instructions for how to build or port the ROM yourself(you will probably get a ROM faster this way than waiting for or finding someone else to do it).
Most of the time a device must be a popularly used device to have custom development for it. Low end, low spec, unpopular and cheaper devices usually don't get any development unless a normal user decides to develop for the device themselves. If you like being able to customize your devices then I suggest you research the devices you buy before you buy them, that way you can find the custom stuff available for it before you buy it. Never assume that there is something available for every android device out there be cause that is not true. There are many android devices that never get any development of any kind.
