Hello everyone, it's been about two weeks since my beloved nexus stopped working with my PC, and I don't know what to do anymore, except for an RMA.
USB Debugging is enabled as well as MTP, i tried with PTP too: results are the same.
I tested on all USB Ports on my computer with 4 cables other than the original one: when connected, the phone does not appear on device manager in windows or in lsusb on linux, except when it is in bootloader mode. It works fine on other pc's, and other Nexus 5's work perfectly fine on my computer (drivers are installed). I formatted my pc and flashed all the available factory images: the problem persists. The only thing i didn't try is connecting it through an usb hub, since I don't have one.
Do you have any ideas? Any help would be appreciated!

Have you checked device manager for an acer device connected? A windows update a while ago seemed to cause this issue

Try using Wugfresh's toolkit.
http://www.wugfresh.com/
Follow the guide to fully uninstall drivers/etc and follow the guide again to install the needed drivers. DO NOT skip steps. If u encounter any problem mid way do post here :good:
Device is not detected. Anyway i don't think it's a driver problem (it would otherwise work on linux, and other nexus 5's wouldn't work with my PC too). Could The phone have "blacklisted" my computer, somehow?
My computer's USB Voltage is 5.04V (checked with a multimeter, my usb chargers have 4.95-5.16 so it's perfectly fine, I guess)
How can i check the data lines?
Down load "Googles" USB driver for windows and install on your pc.
Confirm that you have USB debugging set to "ON" and switch from "MTP" to "Camera" via a search in settings for MTP
Finally check that your Phone is able to recogonize that you have a USB Cable connected...
Keep us posted on how you get on
That's exactly what i did after reinstalling windows on my pc, and as i said in The op, phone works fine on other computers.. I even re locked the bootloader and resetted the tamper flag. Should i contact google for an rma?

Why exactly? Other nexus 5's work fine.
Didn't you learn to read the op before posting?

Apologies, I missed that.
It doesn't appear on lsusb on Linux? :\ No error/warning message on dmesg/journald?
Nothing, it's as if i didn't connect it... about a month ago i had a problem where while the phone was charging it said no sim card until i unplugged it from AC & rebooted. Could things be related?

hi. i'm having problem in connecting my device in bootloader..
i used to be able to connect with PDAnet in bootloader without any problem, but now all i have is "connecting to your phone". I've downloaded the USB driver package from the sdk but still no luck..
any idea ?
*yes i search the XDA forum and try following the guides but i still have no luck*
have you tried the connection on another computer?
sometimes the computer USB ports tends to go crazy and wont work with the device no matter what
there's an utility (forgot the name) that lets you delete all the bugged USB associations in the PC
if you can find that, then you can try it as well

I wanted to root my friends ns4g but my of won't recognize it. He had a galaxy s 2 as well and it was the same issue.
I installed pdanet, Samsung drivers, different USB cords, nothing!
When I plug it in nothing happens, then about 5 mins later, USB not recognized. I manually tried to put the .inf file through the windows 7 wizard and still nothing.
Like I said my ns4g works perfectly fine, when I plug his in nothing works at all. I don't understand this at all. I have a 64bit system and made sure everything was for that. Can anyone help me out?

Can you mount usb in either recovery (if applicable) and android? Have you tried with usb debugging enabled? Also, does it show you no android device is connected in device manager?

in device manager it only shows unknown usb device with "!" symbol. Yes for debugging, and cant boot into recovery, there is no recovery as its not rooted.
help someone please! lol
There was something i read about the fast charge widget messing up the ability of the nexus to properly connect to the computer and a fix. Part of its design is to block USB file transfer when connected to a computer. There were several phones that couldn't connect after loading the widget.
Before i go and waste a bunch of time researching and digging for this. I would like to know if your friend has installed the fastcharge widget on his phone.

did you install tbe drivers by booting into bootloader while pluged in?

yeah, didnt work. Factory Reset the phone too.
Try a different USB port on PC and pull the battery for a min.

Try drivers from Samsung support page. It took me a bit. But usually the pdanet drivers work. You could try another pc that does not have the drivers for the nexus.

i have the exact problem like u. when i connect my note 10.1 to my pc via usb, my pc wont detect my note storage even though i set it at MTP. the only thing that come out is scanner and camera wizard. please someone help
If I remember correctly when I connected my GNote10 to my laptop all I could see was the sdcard not the external card. Well it could seevthe external sdcard but not what was on it. I put it down to the fact I run Linux and the drivers for the GNote10 may be different. However now I use WiFi File Explorer Pro and Bluetooth for transfering files as it seems easier for me.
There is a app to fix this on SSamsung apps store search for kies it will be there

Erica, unfortunately, this app does not install. If you're talking about Kies Saver WiFi.
Try connecting it to another Windows computer to see if it is detected to rule out whether or not it is a specific computer's issue or your tablet.
If it's just that computer then only thing I can think of is if you go to the Device Manager in windows and look under the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" Host controllers and see if any have an exclamation mark.
From there you can try uninstalling that device and then either reconnect or reboot your computer and reconnect and see if it now detects it.
Could try this program on your computer to remove usb entries.search google for usbdview program for your pc.it will show all conmected usb devices remove old android conmections

I solved the issue like THIS:
Downloaded KIES
ran " connectionproblems" function of KIES (drivers will be newly installed)
Restart PC
Connect
And , voila, MTP works flawless ...........
FIXED
I pluged it in like you had and just got the un-ending "Connecting" in Kies. It showed the device ID (GT-N8013) in the connected device tab however it would never fully connect.
So what I did was while it was trying to connect in Kies I changed the connection type in the Note from MTP (Media device) to PTP (Camera). I got a few error messages in Kies saying that it can't connect to the device because the device was in the wrong mode. After I cleared those error messages and Kies stopped trying to connect. I than set the USB PC connection back to MTP and let Kies do its thing and no problemo there it was.
Hope this helps some of you! Have fun! Also the kick in the pants is that there is no firmware update available still stuck at 4.1.2. I was hoping 4.2 would be available.
same problem as OP
I have the same problem as OP, my PC just doesn't recognize that a device is plugged in. The Samsung note 10.1 beeps and charges but that's it, my PC is non the wiser to anything changing at all.
I'm running Windows 7 64bit and I've tried it on my brothers PC, same OS, and my dads which is 32bit. re-installed windows, fully updated Samsung and windows, Kies just says "plug in a device"
USBDeview doesn't recognize anything.
Nothing in device manager.
I've contacted Samsung after searching high and low on Google for an answer and they diagnosed it as faulty.
Repair center says it's working fine and sent it me back.
There must be something I'm missing on the tablet, could it be a faulty USB cable? I have really run out of options.
because its rooted
wont work because its rooted i even tryed voodoo root keeper and samsung wont let me update becasue its rooted .. kinda stuck. cant even connect computer to install custom rom

I don't know if this is the case with you, but I experience connection problems very often, in particular with OTG. Connection seems to be reliable immediately after reboot but after a (short? longer?) while it stops and won't work anymore.
My guess is that a driver is not correctly reset when the tablet resumes from sleep.
It might be a problem introduced with the latest OTA.

Fixed it with a £2 USB cable off eBay. If you have nothing but the tablet charging try a new cable. Worked for me after sending it to Samsung for repairs twice.

Try to turn on USB Debugging in Developer Setting. I'm using N8013 and that method works for me
My Note 10.1 (2014) wasn't being recognized in My Computer by the laptop running Win7, so I found the tablet in the Device Manager, double-clicked on it there, and downloaded the drivers. Loaded up flawlessly after that.
Hi, I'm running windows 8.1
I've installed nexus root kit with appropriate drivers. I've rooted my nexus 5 which still runs 4.4.
But since a few days, I can't see it anymore using USB connection, neither as a multimedia neither as a photo device.
A bit disappointed with this since I need it !
I've tried to follow NRK steps without success.
Any idea or suggestions ?

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'm having the exact same problem.
It's literally like earlier today I had my Nexus connected to my computer and it showed up as a drive as per usual. Then I disconnected it for whatever reason and a bit later when I tried to reconnect it, it no longer showed up at all. I've tried it on multiple computers, in both media and camera mode with usb debugging on and off. Basically I've tried the obvious stuff, but it just no longer shows up.
If you guys used ABD to sideload 4.4.1 or 4.4.2 then you will need to take off the drivers for that before your Nexus will be recognised as a standard media device in My Computer - it's because the ADB overwrites standard Google USB drivers
Had same issue yesterday

Interestingly enough I had the problem with the PC not recognizing my phone.
When I turned USB debugging ON, *tada* it worked. I don't know the background why this even makes a difference.
However for me it worked.
Disabling debugger change just nothing, neither than disabling developer tools...
I used Wugfresh's Toolkit to get the drivers. Make sure you use the usbdeview tool to delete any other drivers on your computer associated with the device. Then I did the install of the PDAnet drivers through the toolkit. When installing the drivers, there is actually a prompt that comes up on your phone that you have to "ok" as well. After two hours, that is how I got the drivers to work on Windows 8.1.

I did this. But my phone now is only detected as a Camera and not a Media Device. Any idea why this is?
Hello,
I've been trying to charge my phone through the USB cable that came with the device. It works with the charger, but once i plug it into my pc it doesnt work. When I open Sony PC Companion it doesnt recognize a device either. Now when I enable USB debugging, it works for 2 seconds and then it goes back to non functioning. What i mean by it works for 2 seconds is, the device gets recognized by sony pc companion but then gets unrecognized immediately, i get the charging icon for 2 seconds en the device says its connected to the pc via MTP. But then I can't do anything with it. In device manager it has 2 unrecognized devices: ADB interface and MTP.
What is wrong here?
bump
Try another cable if you have one.
Also install the drivers for your phone from this site.

without recognizing charging function must work!
but test this >
uninstall PC companion > then go to drive C/Program Files and Files x86 and delete Sony and Sony Mobile folders (if exist)
then restart and Install it again.
If doesn't help
