[Q] cannot connect to bootloader - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi. i'm having problem in connecting my device in bootloader..
i used to be able to connect with PDAnet in bootloader without any problem, but now all i have is "connecting to your phone". I've downloaded the USB driver package from the sdk but still no luck..
any idea ?
*yes i search the XDA forum and try following the guides but i still have no luck*

have you tried the connection on another computer?
sometimes the computer USB ports tends to go crazy and wont work with the device no matter what
there's an utility (forgot the name) that lets you delete all the bugged USB associations in the PC
if you can find that, then you can try it as well

Things to try:
1) Uninstall and reinstall the drivers
2) Download and install the drivers from the Samsung website (after removing current drivers).
3) Install the drivers from DesignGears (again after removing current drivers) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
4) Try a different USB cable
5) Plug the USB cable into a port on the back of the computer
Hopefully one of those will work.
Good luck!!

SGS4G Drivers Problem?

I hope I'm posting this in the right place. I recently picked up a SGS4G and I immediately wanted to root it. When I plug my phone into the computer, however, the computer doesn't recognize it. The phone recognizes that it is plugged in (green android pops up, gives option of Kies, Media, or Mass Storage), but nothing happens on the computer end. I've downloaded about a million drivers and still no change. I've tried downloading Kies for drivers, but Kies doesn't even recognize a phone is plugged in. I've even downloaded drivers for the original Vibrant, but no luck. It's frustrating because I think that is the only reason my OneClickRoot keeps getting stuck on "waiting for device". Anyone have any ideas?
If you're using a 64 bit system, make sure you get 64 bit drivers.
Got a 64 bit system, got the 64 bit drivers. I even tried the 32 bit drivers just for the hell of it. Nada.
I dunno where you got your drivers, but here's the exact one I used.

I got mine from the "How to Root" thread in the SGS4G Bible thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025610
I had problems with my drivers before. I downloaded Kies Mini from Samsung's site. I used Kies to install the drivers and haven't had a problem since.

Ditto what Jerry said. They work like a charm.
Well I finally got my computer to recognize that my phone exists, but now I keep getting a message saying that the drivers have malfunctioned. I've uninstalled and reinstalled a few times now, and no change. I can't get Kies to see my phone, or I'd try to download through it.
I'm at work so I don't have my Kies with me lol but you should be able to install the drivers. You can't do anything with Kies because the drivers aren't installed.
Look at the "options" in Kies to install drivers.
Sorry for the non technical directions. I only used Kies to install the drivers that one time.
Kies doesn't give me any option to install drivers. There isn't even an "options" tab. Even with my phone plugged in, Kies stills asks me to plug in a device. I've tried connecting my USB through Mass Storage, Media Player, and Kies. I've also tried all the above in USB debugging mode. I've even plugged it in in download mode. Still nothing. I keep getting the message that the drivers are malfunctioning.

Try this (sorry if I made this seem novice-like, but I just want to try and be clear):
Open a command prompt
type this, followed by Enter: set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
type this, followed by Enter: devmgmt
Once Device Manager opens, click View on the menu bar and select Show Hidden Devices
Expand both "Modems" & Universal Serial Bus controllers" & uninstall anything that has Samsung Android USB Composite Device, Samsung USB Composite Device, Samsung Mobile Device, Samsung Mobile Modem, etc.
Once the devices are gone, maybe reboot (probably not necessary, but why not?) and try the USB driver install again.

Ya, I didn't think there was an actual Options tab that is why I put options in quotes. I remember hitting install drivers when I installed mine months ago. It was very easy.
It sounds like you need the kind of help Steven is giving.
When you do get your computer to recognize your device I highly recommend installing the drivers through Kies. After many many flashes the have never let me down.
I wish I could be of more help. I've seen your problem in here before and our Helpful Members always get it figured out.
Best of luck!

Try USB Debugging
Oddly enough try only using the same USB port you originally installed the drivers on. I have noticed with windows 7, it tries to install the drivers when you change USB Ports, then again it should do this if they are on a separate controller.
As stated above, use USB debugging.
Hopefully we'll get you an answer that works.

Well, I tried Stephen's method, but still got nothing. I keep getting the error message. I just don't understand why the phone will recognize that it's plugged in, the computer will recognize that SOMETHING is plugged in, but it won't recognize WHAT.

Bummer, I Really hoped that would work. When you go into Add/Remove Programs does it show that the USB drivers are listed? If so, remove them there and re-try the installation.

I've tried that too, multiple times
I tried something different this time. In device manager, under USB Controllers, instead of deleting all the Samsung stuff, I deleted EVERYTHING (based on an idea I found on a Windows 7 help page dealing with error code 43). When I plugged my phone in, every one of the items I uninstalled reinstalled, except for "Unknown Device" (I'm assuming that's my phone), which came up failed. I'm not sure if this helps at all with diagnosing the situation, but I thought I'd throw it out there...
Did you retry Stephens suggestions after uninstalling everything?

usb device not recognized

I am trying to flash my Infuse in Odin however...
I have Samsung Mobile Drivers installed. When I have Odin up and ready and plug in the Infuse in download mode, windows says USB device not recognized.
also, when the phone is booted up, it will not charge, and windows will not recognize it either.
When booting into ClockworkMod Recovery it says:
E:Missing bitmap indeterminate2
same thing through indeterminate6
I have tried on different computers, with a few different micro USB cables
What the heck is wrong with this phone?
That happens to me a few days ago too. Windows used to recognize my phone, then without doing any change, windows wouldn't recognize at all, even after reinstalling Kies, trying different usb cable or USB port. What I did to solve the problem is that I turned on Kies first, then plug in the phone, windows would say it could not recognize the USB decide, then in Kies, I clicked on troubleshoot (or something like that), then Kies will reinstall the driver and then u can go back here and thank me. Lol. Hope it helped u

Root on froyo without connecting usb?

So I have a Galaxy S 4G that I can not get to be recognized by my computer via USB. It charges fine but always get "USB device not recognized". It's on stock froyo and I have tried several cables and computers as well as versions of drivers so I assume it's a faulty usb port on the phone.
I looked at this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099374
And it seems that it was possible to flash cwm from recovery and then flash a custom kernel that gave root access? But links have been removed and thread closed and replaced by one that requires gingerbread. Does anyone know of any way to root on froyo without usb cable? or have the files that were removed from the thread above?
Any suggestions at all?
Fix your USB port.
try heimdall?
Visit your local library and use a computer there to root. Having fun isn't hard when you got a library card.

Most free-to-the-public computers are so locked down that I doubt he'll be able to get drivers installed.

The ones in smaller towns usually aren't, or their security is easily bypassed with ctrl-alt-delete or similar combinations
thanks for the responses but it seems that I need to clarify that it looks like it's the usb port on the phone that is defective and not the computer. My Galaxy s3 and tab 7.7 connects just fine with odin using same computers and drivers that I can't get to recognize this phone.
And yes I did try heimdall but since the computer does not see the phone heimdall won't either
Nothing else I can do to get root? I would not mind about being stuck on froyo I just need root to install vodoo sound.
^ How do you charge your phone if your USB port is busted?
If it is charging well, then I suspect there is a conflict in drivers.

If the power and ground pins are active, it will charge, but if the data +/- pins arent' connected, you can charge but not transmit data. My USB cord did that to me, will charge, but won't show "usb mode" to connect for usb storage. Thought it was the rom, flashed 4 times, realized the cord must have a break in the VCC+/- wires.

HELP! Can't connect to PC

Hi guys, i'm getting this problem and cant connect to pc and i think i've tried it all.
when i connect my phone to the PC, it stars charging but my pc doesn't recognize the device, and my phone doesn't show the notification to make it file transfer.
Could it be a computer issue?
it seems not, i've uninstalled and installed drivers (ADB and Fastboot, oneplus drivers, google drivers) and the problem persist, and even try it on another computer and its the same, the phone does not appear even on Device Manager.
Could it be the Cable?
I don't think so, i'm using the original oneplus cable, it use to work really well before, and i have even connect other phone with the same cable and the other phone is recognize by the computer, so it''s not a cable issue... but I still when to a Tech-store and try other USB-C cables with their computer but my issue still persist (phone isn't recognize, just charge).
Could it be a phone software issue?
Maybe? but i discover this issue 3 weeks ago and a i was on EVOX rom and i thought it would be solved flashing another rom, and i CLEAN FLASH Resurrection Remix Rom, but then the problem was still there!
cant connect even on FASTBOOT MODE...
BTW, before installing RR, i Installed OOS 10.3.4, and still my computer doesnt recognize the phone, YES i have enabled developer options and USB debugging is enabled, and USB PREFERENCES to File transfer, but its not helping me, the "usb for" option its all grayed out and cant change that.
Right now i'm stuck on a RR build without Gapps, and i lost ROOT and RECOVERY, and as you may think, i cant install any of them because i cant connect to my pc, so i'm in a pretty difficult situation here hehe, could you please help me out?
This helped me. Hope it works for you too
