[Q] Android system draining battery - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

About a week after I got this phone, android system began to drain a lot of my battery. I turned off sync, disabled a lot of apps, and adjusted Google now, didn't seem to help. I don't know what else to do. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having a similar problem except it is Call Standby, no one could answer it with a proper fix, though apparently it is VoIP, sadly we can't disable it on VZW S6.

Try clearing cache in recovery, I heard that fixes it.

For Cell Standby drain see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...ow-to-significantly-increase-battery-t3109799

Thank you!

Help please!
I would also LOVE some help with this too. Currently, Android system is taking up 29% of my battery resources and cell standby is at 10%. I think I've exhausted all possibilities too. I've tried wiping the cache partition, factory data rest, odin back to stock, advanced calling on and off, changing the WiFi sleep policy and nothing seems to tame either one of those from being at the top of my battery stats. I struggle to get 3 hours of SoT. Gsam regularly says that WiFi active uses 40% - 50% of the battery. Any ideas what's going on or how to fix it? I am amazed at some of the screen shots I see with people easily getting 5+ hours of SoT. Ps, I'm on VZW.

What are you running? Stock now? Clean Rom? Try downloading Better battery stats in the Play Store, see if you can get a better handle on what's running more specifically. Have you removed all Verizon's bloat?

I'm running stock now.

And yes, I've disabled all bloat and unused apps.

What I would do is root, and flash Clean Rom 1.5. Then try that and see how you do after that there's a few things you can do that might help if you don't see a jurassic change. Keep us updated though. But thats where I would start.

You also can try to turn off things like smart stay… auto brightness helps if you turn it off and turn your brightness down manually. And make sure if you do flash a rum to let it settle for 3 or 4 days before your give up hope.

OK thanks, maybe I'll try that. Do you have a link for a Verizon root method? Does it trip knox?

It does not trip knox, there's a guide that I take no credit for http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3104094

I don't know about the others but I think we're looking for a widget. A widget will allow you to change your settings on the fly...
Maaaybe I didn't look hard enough but from what I saw that app [Phone info] only allows you to say which connection you prefer to be connected to.
But what if for example I want to be able to toggle between 3G at school and then LTE when I'm outside of school, and 4G HSPA+ when I am at home?
If I am correct, toggling my settings through the app is just the same as toggling the options in the Settings.

Major battery drain

Guys, another member with yet another battery drain thread. I could have asked my questions on an existing thread but didn't want to hijack anyone's thread.
From full charge I'm losing 3-4% battery within 2 hours.
I'm rooted with custom recovery and stock ROM.
I have WiFi on during sleep only when plugged in.
Location services all turned off.
Any help massively welcome.
Here are a few screen shots for info.
Did you look at the stickies??
---------- Post added at 08:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:21 PM ----------
[/COLOR]The very first thing to try is turning off WiFi off when screen off. Something is waking it up constantly. Leave WiFi on. That may alone fix the issue.
Try it first anyway.
---------- Post added at 08:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:22 PM ----------
Edit: you did look at the stickies. Lol. Good work! ? I was thinking, wow....just saw this same issue somewhere.
My bad.

That's the first thing I thought, it's not doing the battery any favors to have the WiFi flip on and off like that. WiFi is easier on the battery than data, so unless you have data disabled and are switching over to voice/SMS only it's more efficient to idle over WiFi.
That might not be the case if you're attempting to use a WiFi with a much weaker signal than your data connection. However in this set of screenshots it looks like a mix of weak and strong mobile connection which would cause extra drains (especially the red full drops).
Biggest issue is all that awake time though.
dont waste your time looking for a cause, google play services is biting you. its a kmown current issue with the play services. i used to use the disable service app to disable all location services from the play services app, and used to fix it for me.
Thanks guys for the suggestions.
I've turned WiFi on always and still the battery is draining fast. 4-5% within 2 hours.
Android system is a big drain. No idea why. Google play services is currently at 5%
Try using CPU tuner. I've used it on all my devices thus far and have had great battery life thus far. Average full charge on high usage lasts about 14-16 hours

Try also to change kernel, you are rooted so there are no problem, i suggest you to try the big bum kernel that you can finde here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/development/kernel-bum-5-t2774572 it's simply a franco kernel with some optimization andi like it so much! I've no google play service in battery info and it's update very often!

38R - ~30 battery drain back

Hey all. I'm stock, but I flashed 38R yesterday morning. All day yesterday i was getting great 6-8 idle drain and had about 4 hours screen on time through about 45% battery, but today I'm back to around 30 idle drain. Literally nothing changed between yesterday and today.
The culprit seems to be Android System. This morning, my wifi connection displayed as NULL (wife's Nexus 5 stayed connected just fine), but I was able to get that connected properly again. Could this NULL wifi connection have something to do with the drain?
Any ideas on why this may have reverted to the 33r drain? Like I said, there is literally nothing different with the phone other than a reboot this morning.
Have you tried ART?

You need to investigate exactly what is draining your battery by using BetterBatteryStats or something like that.

That isn't going to help if an app or service is causing a wakelock.

How easy is it for the average user to use bbs? They can always use greenfiy donate version, that can show you services/apps constantly running?

Wifi Calling

Am I blind or is the wifi calling setting missing? I can't seem to find it. Anyone know where it is?
You are seriously blind or ur trolling haha
Yeah it's definitely not there...
Even if I search settings for wifi it's not there:
I hope I don't have to factory reset. I spent like 3 hours setting everything up without root Lol.

Eventually I will. I wanted to stay on rooted stock as long as possible.
Is there any way to edit the features.xml without root?
uh, turn your wifi on connect to a wifi and look again, would be my suggestion
how about trying the default theme? maybe the one you're using may be breaking some of the ui elements.
another user had his tethering missing from settings. a refresh fixed it. i know it sucks to do it, but it might work.

Tried that. WiFi calling settings are present whether you have WiFi on or off.

I tried the default theme and wifi calling is still missing. I did a factory reset and its still missing.
is the wifi calling stuff activated by the sim? do you have the service on your account? could be bad sim or you need to check your account services. hope something works. sucks going through all this with a new device.
What carrier r u on? Just checking because maybe ur not on Sprint. Not sure if other carriers are using WiFi calling.

I'm missing wifi calling as well and am on Sprint. I was missing hotspot also and did a factory reset to fix the issue. Wonder what's going on with missing features. I have the 64gb version.

Go to "more connection settings" it should be there
Call Sprint and have them remove, then add it back to your account.
This has worked for me in the past when all else has failed.

I am on Sprint.
So I called Sprint support and they couldn't figure it out being that it's a new device. I was advised by Sprint support to take the phone to a Sprint store to have them look at it.
i've got wifi tether, got the email that it's been activated, have the icon saying it's working but every time i call out i get either the girl or guy saying they can't complete the call. getting a free ac66 though!
If you edit your quick settings panel its in the extended drop down menu

I too am on Sprint and missing WiFi calling.... about to take the phone in for a faulty software load? I factory reset. Next step is downloading the firmware and pushing to the device and see if that fixes it

He's not trolling. Mine was the same way. Reset... nothing... so now I am downloading the firmware from sammobile. If still nothing, then its back to sprint with it.

If you use Nova, you can get to the settings through creating a activities shortcut on there, and then swap back to Touchwiz, or stay on Nova....it's a work around. This means since the app is installed it is a Touchwiz issue...go figure!
So, i reset to get it back, didnt work. Then I went to sammibile, downloaded the firmware and still no luck. Using Nova I was avle to get the wifi calling started, and then switch back to TW. Im just wondering what else is missing? Think ill just go get a new handset since its obviously missing features...

Yessssssss, me too with the DEEP sleep. It happens too often sometimes...like for instance..right before I posted this reply, my LG V10 running 5.1.1, I had to hard reset my phone 3 Times in a row bc of the DEEP sleeping. I do love everything else about it tho bc it helps my battery life a good deal.
