[Q] No Auto Focus

Is this a typical issue? And if so... is it hardware or software?
Sadly, from what I have seen, it is a hardware issue. Hopefully you can swap yours.
Sent from my rooted Moto Triumph
Thanks Fodoom, I took it up with my Best Buy, and needless to say I will be getting a new one. And if I have another bad one? They'll just keep giving them to me until it is fixed. (Hardware or Software wise)
Just to make sure you know you have to hold the on screen shutter button down for it to focus and then it takes the picture when you let go. I am switching from an iphone where you just tap the screen for focus so it took me a minute to figure out since there's no hardware camera button.
I hope you tried this before swapping it out, but I figured I'd ask just in case.

That's odd, because I've been just tapping the shutter button all this time to take pictures with my Triumph and it's been working just fine; I can see the camera auto-focus and then snap the picture.
Just for grins, I tried it your way and held down the shutter button; it auto-focused and quietly beeped then, when I released the button, it took the picture. I'm betting this is a feature to enable the Triumph camera to mimick old time SLRs, where you focus for one particular distance and then take the picture with the subject at another distance to create some interesting out-of-focus effects.
At any rate, for the OP, I would definitely take your Triumph back for an exchange. Your camera should auto-focus whether on the camera app or a barcode reader app. If not, you have a legitimate issue.

Camera Reflection

I bought my wife a Samsung Galaxy S7 about 4 days ago.
When taking photos on an evening with bright lights the camera has dots on the screen (see attached images). These look like a reflection.
I took the phone back to the shop where they told me this was normal, and the problem was replicated in another two phone. As i's not considered a defect I cant return the phone,It's my first Samsung and my last,As utter spoils the experience.
Taken a good few night shots but not seen anything this bad, I only get spot reflections from bright lights like the sun
Wipe camera lens nice, I'm getting this kind of pics when my lens are dirty
Lens is spotless, only happens on a night, but its so bad its pointless taking night photos.
Not sure if it's a lens or software problem, but store I bought it from are insisting I take it to Samsung, yet the phone was only 4 days old when we noticed this problem.
Can you reproduce this when HDR is disabled?
I do actually have the same issue, also only when taking pics of for example lamps, city, etc..anything that lights/shines at night.
The lens is clean ofc.
Yep, I have the same issue. Lights mess up the camera in many scenarios on this phone.
Manual mode, hdr off or on,does not what settings the resukts are the same
I have this on HTC 10 and Pixel too. And now S7. Well not as bad as that, just 1 dot in strong lights during low light. Kinda normal.

Strange Stripes on Selfie Camera?

I recently updated my S7 edge to 7.0 nougat, and while on Snapchat I noticed something that's never happened before. I often snap my friends late at night in low-light settings, and I've noticed that my selfie camera has these horrific vertical stripes that faintly cover every picture now. They look like old-style scanlines and move around like them too, but vertically instead of horizontally.
At first they were only in low-light, and and only on Snapchat as far as I thought. But now I've realized they're constantly there, even in the camera app, just barely visible in proper lighting.
I'm not sure if this is some new software bug, and if there's anything I can do about it, but it's very unsightly and almost seems like it's getting worse over time. This phone has had a camera failure before, but it was a long time ago, and quickly repaired. I feel like it isn't connected.
Any info at all would be greatly appreciated!

Blurry camera

I just want to start off by saying , YES i know there are multiple threads about the G5 and having the main camera not focus. I found that if i shook my phone, that eventually it would focus. Most people seem to fix this problem by replacing the camera. So i went ahead and bought one from ifixit, and when it arrived, the camera was DOA. They sent me another and after 1 day, the same thing happened. The phone refused to focus. So they sent me another replacement and the same thing. It wouldn't focus. They agreed to refund me. I then bought one from ebay and after installing it today, IT DOES NOT FOCUS. I have checked/cleaned the lens area , so no there are no smudges. There is 1 scratch but it does not cover the lens itself. The secondary camera has about 3-4 scratches that cover the lens, but that camera has no problem focusing. Does anyone have any ideas? I have had this phone for over a year, and apart from this issue it has been bullet proof(ignoring the screen retention problem that seem to also affect phones like the s7). I love it so much. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Not going to help much but I'm in the same boat. I can hear the camera rattling when I shake it, and with my original camera, the focus mechanism trying to to its thing. Tried a few ebay ones labeled as "New" and got ones that are pulled from old phones and won't even try to focus or simply not work at all. I would think that ifixit you wouldv'e had the best luck with and thats pretty disappointing to hear because I was hoping pony up and just go with them next. All I've heard is that you just have to keep trying until you get one that works, then be super careful with it. Kinda sucks, at least we have the wide angle though and thats what I use most of the time for actual pictures but most apps only go through the regular camera.
I am at a lost on what to do. Its so frustrating. The wide angle camera is nice, but not as a main camera. I have to zoom and crop quite a bit since I use Fb messenger(which kills quality) and the wide angle is such a hassle. I literally gave up. I'm tired of "trying" other ones. I really don't know what to do. I guess I either live with it or, sell it for cheap, then buy a s7.

Camera Hardware Issues

Hey everyone.
Since yesterday my phone makes clicky noises everytime i start up the camera. When looking at it, the lower camera seems to have detached itself and moves around when I activate it. Not sure if it was always like that or the camera has actually unglued itself.
Would it be possible for someone to record their camera while they open the app so that I can compare it to mine?
Thanks in advance,
IG
