Issues with phone not registering touch input - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

I have started having issues with my screen not registering touch input. I do have a screen protector on the phone as well as a UAG case but everything has been fine, I've had them both on for over a week without any problems. Starting today though my phone has not been registering all of my touch inputs, whether it be typing or clicking on things. It is starting to get rather frustrating because I am constantly misspelling words or having to click on things multiple times. Any idea what might be causing this?

Touch screen not aligning

I don't know what happened but last night I was on my bed using Opera and the touchscreen just stopped being accurately or responding to my touches. I thought it was nothing so I turned the phone off and did the screen alignment however the problem comes back after a few minutes.
It's not that the screen isn't sensing my touches, its that its always either too far down or too far up. So i'll be clicking on calender to get to my call history. I always have to keep doing the screen alignment and sometimes that goes into a loop where I have to do it 10 times before it works. Then after a few minutes the problem creeps back up.
Help me, is my phone stuffed? I even removed the screen protection and nothing works it seems.
And now the alignment is far too up so I can't press phone, contacts or send. Goddamn.
Could be a problem with the touchscreen, or perhaps you haven't mastered using the touchscreen. I sometimes have problems pressing tiny areas on it. If it works with the stylus without problems then it's fine, otherwise it sounds like the touchscreen is faulty.
No I've been using this phone without any problems for the last month and a half since I got it. This problem just suddenly came up.
I am with Three Australia, is it under warranty or free repair?
Anyone? This is getting annoying.
Bump again sorry.

[Q] xoom touchscreen issues?

I got my Xoom (WiFi) yesterday... already noticing some weird touchscreen behaviour.
It seems to me that whenever the Xoom is laid down flat, there's a chance that the device will stop responding to touch presses properly. Instead of being able to press-and-swipe, it acts like I tapped the screen (eg, pressed my finger on the screen and then lifted it straight back off) or worse, it causes a screen press in completely the wrong position. When it starts happening, it keeps on happening, but picking the Xoom up and holding it vertical seems to fix the problem.
Half the time it seems fine laid down though, so I'm not sure if it's just coincidence that it stops working at the same time I put it down flat or not, or that maybe picking it up means my hand is in contact with the back of the screen and this somehow changes some sort of electrical variable in my hands that affects the touchscreen operation.
Anyone else seen the same issue? I'm thinking I may need to take it back but want to see if anyone else has experienced anything similar.
Chris.
ok.. judging by the lack of response on this, I may either be on my own or it's just something that nobody is noticing. I've been testing it a bit more - I wrote an app which can show each touch point on the screen so I can see how the screen press/drag is working. This is what I've found.
Holding the tablet upright, screen presses and movements are fine, however I've noticed that if I hold my fingers in the same place for a while, the touch points will prematurely end.
If I put the Xoom down on the couch, there is a strong likelihood that the touchscreen will become incredibly unresponsive. I have had it regularly show up phantom presses where touching one point of the screen makes it appear as if I have also pressed another point of the screen. I also cannot drag my fingers across the screen - the touch points stay where they are until I take my fingers off the screen completely, or they just disappear right away as if I tapped the screen.
When this happens, if I touch the side of the case with either a free finger or my other hand, the touchscreen starts working perfectly! Seriously! I'm not kidding, I've been messing with this thing almost non-stop for the past coulpe of days and it is consistently doing this. So - couch + little finger on side of case = working touchscreen. couch but no contact with metal case = malfunctioning touchscreen.
If I have the Xoom in Motorola's case, it seems to work fine. If I put it on a table, it's a bit buggy but generally works better than on the couch. Any sort of material seems to send it regularly into crazy mode. The only time I've noticed it doesn't do this is if I'm in contact with the device immediately before putting it down and then remain in contact with the screen.
Could some sort of static charge cause this? Is it possible that me touching the back of the case is effectively allowing it to 'conduct' electricity properly on the touch screen? I'm not all that familiar with how capacitative screens work other than I assume they measure capacitance from your fingers. Maybe a static charge could throw it off. Or maybe I have weird fingers.
Anyway, I'm pretty close to taking the Xoom back now. Just trying to figure out if it's actually faulty or whether they're all like it by 'design'.
sorry
need to post to remove my limitations sorry again
This could be a loose touch controller cable. Someone had similar problems and posted a how to fix this, search for it.
It happens with me too, it's incredible annoying when you are developing and the tablet is on your table for debugging..
Did you find how to fix it?
I have a serious unresponsive issue on my Xoom when charging. I've tried several different chargers, (all from Motorola) with no luck. Unfortunately all the ones I tried where at my house so I'm not sure if its a wiring issue in my house.
I also have a similar problem on my Droid Razr so I'm starting to think its definitely the wiring.
Anyone know about this issue or have any recommendations?

Thats weird.. i owned xoom n droid razr too but i dun have any iissue
It could be a wiring issue (try another house, I guess), but a lot of devices are like that where the touch screen stops being as responsive when it's on a wall charger.

[Q] Should I use stock when I take this for repair?

For a few months my phone has had a problem where the screen will take control of itself or become unresponsive, it's not the phone being slow, because hardware keys respond perfectly. Scrubbing the screen with a Lysol wipe helps sometimes, but I'd rather just have the problem taken care of (it seems like it's caused by fingerprints on the screen, which isn't a problem on any of my friends' SKs and initially wasn't on mine either).
Anyway, when I take my SK to T-Mo, should I flash a ROM that at least looks stock for warranty purposes or will they not care?
If I do need to go to stock, how would I go about doing that? As far as I remember, I've never taken a backup in recovery and never ODIN'ed (stupid, I know), so I've no idea what to do. I can flash ROMs perfectly fine, but going back to stock is a mind-boggler for me (disabling Voodoo, etc).
Thanks
Mine always does this.
1. The optical trackpad detects the sunlight, strong indoor lights, etc, as movement and causes spurious scrolling.
2. Water on the screen or a finger just outside the boarder of the screen causes the touchscreen to get confused and either not respond or move on its own.
3. The touchscreen driver is prone to crashing. About half the times I want to answer a call or something, I need to toggle the screen off and on with the power button before it'll work.
None of this is because the hardware has broken. 1 is due to a bad design, 2 is inherent to touchscreens of this type, and 3 is just bad programming.
Ha! I have to do #3 all the time. Glad to know it's not just me. Ridiculous.
Also FYI, #1 never happens to me. I see people here curse that damn sensor all the time, but I have never had mine move randomly in sunlight, and it generally works pretty well for me as arrow-keys.
I also do #3 all the time, and have had problems with the optical trackpad in the past (I've since disabled it).
What the problem appeared to be was that my fingers are oily or something, explaining why wiping the screen excessively was useful. I passed on taking it to the T-Mobile store and instead ordered screen protectors from Amazon. No problems since I applied one.
Has anyone else encountered this, or is this a unique problem? I got through nearly a year without having this problem, so maybe something went wonky in the screen. Anyway, problem fixed

Touch screen problem

Hi guys,
i'm having an issue with my HTC u11, basically when i'm using the phone randomly the swipe down screen (when you swipe the screen down from top to bottom to get the notifications) comes down.
For example if while i am writing a message then drop down screen will come down when i'm typing, i then have to swipe up and continue and again.
it happens more or less all the time and is quite annoying.
any ideas?
its okay, issue resolved. NOVA Setting had gesture switched on. Swipe down for notification menu, this was the issue. lol
PLease close the thread.
Thanks

Well i had the same issue. Was driving me mad! Thanks for the info.
I don't use nova and I have been experiencing this same problem so now what?
Sent from my SM-G955U using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Yeah i though the Nova setting had solved it but it seems to be back again for me, although not as frequent.
I also experience the keyboard collapsing randomly too. Anyone get that?
Hi guys, thought nova got rid bit guess not. I still get the issue. Would this be a software issue or do I have a fault with my hardware?
Any tests I can do?
I reported my issues to HTC and they replied with the following :
To test the function of the touch screen please follow the below steps
1- Dial *#*#3424#*#* > the press accept.
2- From the options, mark Line drawing test > then press run.
3- Then start drawing on the screen to check if there are parts that do not respond
The screen does not have any dead or unresponsive spots tho and the test passes without any issues.
Does anyone experience the keyboard collapses also?
I might do a full reset soon to see if that helps any. If not i will be getting back in touch with HTC.
Did all this as well, and all the tests that I've ran pass just fine. I've also done a hard reset and it didn't make any difference. I do notice that after a soft reset that it takes a while for it to happen again. It's annoying as hell so I will be monitoring this thread. Whatever you find out from htc please update this thread so we can figure out what the hell is going on.

I also done the test and it was a pass.
I'm certain it's something to do with the software of htc. The UI has to have something wrong with it. Mind you it hasn't done it to me today yet and I'm nearly at the end of the day.
Has everyone got a case? Can't be case interference?

I turned off edge sense, I removed my screen protector and removed the case. It still does it when it's ready.

Exactly same issue here. Very very annoying. As a HTC fanboy I'm quite dissapointed. Phone less than 2 months old. I actually spoke to HTC today, they said they would have to book it in for a repair... Takes up-to 10 business days... I said this is not acceptable! Waiting for a email back.
I have emailed HTC back advising them that others are reporting the issue so unlikely that it's a single handset issue.
Awaiting their reply. No doubt it will be along the same lines that @dobknobby got and have to go through the 10 day repair process.
Will update when I get a reply.
I have had the same problem, and I have done the a lot of the same steps;
I tried several different screen protectors, thinking that was causing the issue. I have had no screen protector on for the last week, and yep it still happens.
Shut off edge sense, still happened.
Tested the touch screen, and everything passed.
Last night I noticed that it seemed to be related to the pressure I was putting on the screen, if I pressed down harder on the screen and slide my finger left or right or up the notification bar would come down. Did some more testing and for awhile I was able to reproduce it about 50% of the time. I rebooted the phone into safe mode (hold power button down and then press and hold the power off option for about 5 seconds it will ask if you want to reboot into safe mode). In Safe mode I could not reproduce it, Safe mode disables ALL third party apps.
WARNING: when I rebooted my phone to go back to "normal" all of my widgets and groupings were not on the screens, had to re add them.
After doing all this testing last night, I have not seen the notification come down, but like someone said it seems to get worse the longer the phone is running before reboot.
I was going to do a hard reset, today but that sounds like that may not help.
Not sure if this is software, but with the testing I did last night it seem to work fine in safe mode. However I have wondered if it is something with the screen, like is flexing enough for the sensors at the top to react to the pressure/flex.
Well keep testing and report back.
I'm also having some issues with the touch screen, but it mainly happens with the keyboard. I like to swipe to type, but lately I've noticed that it gets really jumpy, causing thing errors.
At first i thought it was touchpal so i installed Gboard. Problem still occurs.
I also removed my screen protector and tried did the touchscreen test.

I ran the line drawing test a bunch of times and yes, i now do see that mine fails to draw a continuous line on occasion. It only happens in the keyboard (squeezable?) area though.
I'm worried now that edge sense is damaging the touchscreen.
OK, i have ordered HTC u11 this morning from amazon, but i guess i will cancel my order. Had many problems with htc phones in the past. Saw many reviews and thought that this one is perfect with no flaws... Ahh..... Already ordered some accessories for my new device... It's really a shame to read this kind of threads. Hope you guys will find a solution and hope that this won't be a hardware issue.

Does your keyboard collapse when you are typing? That happens with me. Really frustrating when you are typing quite fast then the keyboard just disappears. Then you end up tapping a link or something that was behind the keyboard. You then need to go back to the page you were on and start typing all over again.
Are you running app killers? Stop boost+ auto. Apps updating from gplay can cause you to be kicked out of the keyboard, it can also pause/stop YouTube vids.
The edge sense system is 2 sensors stuck to the inside of the edge of the device, along the aluminium strips, they shouldn't interfere with the screen at any time.
Sweaty hands and greasy screen can cause the screen to misread your touches and gestures.
Running low on internal memory (sdcard) can cause all sorts of issues. Make sure you ALWAYS have a couple of Gb free.
Try to replicate the problem in test mode.

Personally I made sure to address all your points when trying to figure out what is going on. So none of this applies to me.

Same here, only I was told 7 to 15 business days. Offered to give c card to have a replacement shipped, but that is no longer an option with HTC.
So when I washed my M9, I was without a device for 2 days, but now that their phone is crap, it's going to be 3-4 weeks.
Unhappy....

Screen oversensitive cant use dialer to run TSP.

Hello,
A few days ago my note 10 started acting up, I thought it was the case causing accidental touches so I began using the phone without a case. Unfortunately the issue is still present, I have to restart the phone multiple times a day but it continues to pick up random touches, the phone is clean, no physical scratches or cracks. When searching for this issue I found there is a dialer code *#26... but this does not work with my carrier. Is there a apk I can download somewhere? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

I have the same issue with my display on Note10. Overly sensitive, takes ghost inputs on various places in lower part of display. Dialer code and upgrading firmware didnt help. It helps when I lock the phone and turn display on. Then everything is OK...
