My P905 is rebooting by itself nonstop - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, suddenly when I tried use the stock Camera app to take photo, the device rebooted by itself. This has happened several times. Next, it happened two times that the screen flashed for a few times and then the system rebooted automatically. Now, it is rebooting by itself again and again like crazy. Know what is going on? Is this caused by some kind of automatic software update with buggy software or a hardware failure?

Hard to say.
if I were you I'd first make a full backup (titanium backup if you're rooted) then I'd reflash the firmware through odin and then a factory reset. If the problem is solved, then it is a software issue, and you can restore one by one your apps until you find the one that was causing the problem.
If the problem persists after a factory reset, then is definitively an hardware issue.

If it's continuously rebooting (boot loop) then titanium would do no good even IF the OP were rooted, the use of titanium backup requires that the OS boots fully and remains stable during the backup process.
I think the best course of action is to get into recovery and let the device sit for a minute or two. If it sits there in recovery without rebooting then at least you know it's not an issue with the power button or other hardware buttons or the battery. At that point, clear cache and then reboot. If a boot loop persists after cache clearing then a factory reset is next, and you'll lose any programs that were installed after initial setup but your data on the SD card and external SD will remain intact.

After about 30 minutes of non-stop crazy self-rebooting, the device became hot but returned to normal. My device is not rooted. What is the best way to back up everything include the S Note contents, Action Memo, photos, etc.?

As far as I could understand you did not have a continuous boot loop but very frequent random boots. In this case you should be able to use Kies to backup your apps and data. If you have a smart card reader you can even backup its contents copying them direcly to a pc and use kies to backup only the data and apps that reside on your internal memory.

Having the same problem

My Pro is also rebooting and flikkering. I just plug it into a chager to correct the problem. mine starts doing the flikkering and rebooting when the battery falls to 30 %...

The same here in italy... mine starts the loops at about 50% of battery... do you have lollipop? mine starts the loops after the update... any solution? I have to leave it reboot for one hour ?
@petercohen do you solve it in this way?
thank you!

Me to I'm in Italy and it is three weeks I'm running a rooted lollipop (Flashfire method) with no reboots so far. Just to stay on the safe side I removed Knox and did a factory reset.
The problem looks like a poor electrical contact somewhere, may be the battery connector, or a defective battery, but first is better to exclude a software problem with a factory reset and, possibly, a firmware reflash.

Re solder the battery connector will fix your problem. Battery connector with cracked solders will cause flickering screen, auto reboot, auto shutdown..

hey everybody, it seems lots of users have the same problem. and here there are many posts in troubleshooting section. it seems there is something related to software and battery when it is bellow 30%. honestly I don't think sammy made thusands of deffective batteries but rather there is a problem with battery handling from the software.

This is not software problem, you can verify the source of this particular problem easy. Pressing hard on the back, battery connector location is near the center, or more practically, pressing directly on the battery connector when the rear case removed, you will see the magic. This hardware defect is so easy to fix but most people can't because they don't have solder equipment or don't believe it's the source of problem.

Random reboots mostly after unlocking, am I the only one getting them?

Sometimes I unlock my phone and the screen remains black, then the phone reboots but weirdly it doesn't ask for the SIM pin number. Other times I notice the phone reboots by itself and I notice it because obviously the screen lights up during the boot animation. This happens very rarely, so far it has happened about 3 to 5 times in a couple of months but it's still mega annoying when it happens.
Does it happen only to me? Is there any way to troubleshoot this issue?

If you provide some logs then maybe someone can see what is happening....
Or even basic information, like the configuration and setup of your device.
Right, forgot my configuration. I have an unbranded Z3 on latest Lollipop (but I recall I had a reboot also on Kitkat), no root, no weird apps like task killers or antivirus or anything like that. Sometimes it just does a reboot by itself, but doesn't ask for pin number so it's not a full reboot.
How do I provide logs again?

Factory Reset can solve ur problem /based on personal experience
I did that already less than two months ago and I refuse to believe I have to factory reset this thing every month to get stable operation. Also I'm not even rooted and I haven't messed with the system itself so why would I need to factory reset? Factory reset implies that there is something that has changed and needs to be re-set, and I haven't changed anything special that would require such a drastic solution. Not having done anything special, the issue would come back sooner or later if I don't spot the real cause.
Anyway, in diagnostics I have 21 application incidents for systemUI... Could it be caused by a bugged theme? Does this happen to anyone else?
Today I had two and I had another one last week. A off these were weird half reboots like I described above. I only noticed one because I was at my desk and the phone lighted up for the boot animation.
These reboots show up in diagnostics (phone info menu) as system events. Can you please check out if you have any system events and post here? I want to know if this is a widespread problem. Post here if you have any and also if you have a solution or way to troubleshoot.
Nobody at all? Really?

Idol 3 random restarts multiple times per day

I've got an Idol 3 that has been randomly shutting down. No warning, no specific activity happening... it just shuts off.
I checked to see if there are any pending updates, no dice... it is up to date.
I was thinking to start deleting installed apps to see if it might be related to something that is running. If no help there, perhaps a factory restore.
Has anyone seen anything like this? Any suggestions?
If a factory reset doesn't solve it, it is probably defective and hopefully you can return it for a different one. If a factory reset fixes it. Only add your apps back one at a time to see if it was a particular app that was causing the issue. Let us know if there is an app that isn't playing well with the idol.
Factory reset is a really good way to pin it down to either software or hardware. Run it with just the stock apps for a day to see if it's solid.
Also, if you have a micro SD card in there, pop it out. If there's any issues with the card, or if that specific one just doesn't happen to get along with the phone..it can cause odd things to happen.
What were the results? My device is doing that too...

Check the temperature of your device as soon after a shutdown as possible.....turn off location reporting in location settings to cut down on gps use which I'm told can cause excessive heat if you find the temp is high (over 100F)
The phone was cold to the touch the last time it restarted which was a few minutes ago. Also I was running the system update and the phone got pretty hot and did not shutdown or restart.
Now that I think of it It wasn't having this restart problem till I ran the update... Maybe it got too hot and broke something...
It did get stuck on updating one of the app packages for a lot longer then the rest. Maybe the update didn't install properly?
I've been having the same problem since the most recent software update. It normally happens when I change the volume in my Opera browser.
Did a factory reset and it didn't fix the problem... Alcatel said to contact returns to get a new phone
I love the phone! I just wish this process hadn't came up. I hope they ship the new one fast, Alcatel has been communicating very fast.
I have the same problem. Only for about two times a week. Has somebody a solution?

Why does my Google Pixel randomly reboot?

Hi. My device worked just perfect until 5 days ago. It slowly began to ignore some tasks like opening apps or doing calls.
2 days ago my google pixel with Android 8.0 started to ignore every input i made, like opening apps or trying to reboot. It behaving like this after taking some pictures with the rear cam. After some attepts in opening apps it started to reboot. But instead of a normal reboot it stuck in a booting screen (the one with the Google G and a gray animation bar underneath). It took a while and i waited until it seemed that the OS booted correctly. But after this my device started to reboot randomly after a few minutes. After a while i figured out, that i can hold the power button while the screen with the google G was up to reboot it normally. This worked so that the phone was at least half an hour or more working until it rebooted again out of nowhere.
So far i tried to get it in safe mode and delete some apps like whatts app etc. In safe mode i didnt notice any crashes so far.... but in normal one it does a lot so deleting apps wasnt helpful. Turning on flight mode was not helpful either.
What can I do? What could it be?

Same thing happens with my Pixel, sometimes the phone is just get stuck on some random screen then I have to press and hold it for 15 seconds to let it reboot again. Lately I have started to see another problem, when it reboots bunch of google apps and services stops working and gives hell lot of notifications. All this started to happen after Android Oreo update

Same problem after android 8.0 update
If you have installed the latest Google phone/dialer app, that is likely the problem, was for me.
Find the app in settings and uninstall,it will roll back to a previous version and hopefully fix your issues.

My pixel does the same thing, ever since I updated to 8.0, have you tried doing a factory reset? I haven't done it yet, I have been uninstalling apps for the last couple of days, when it is in safe mode it works good, but when it's not, it freezes and restarts. I'm going to try uninstalling the latest version on google dialer to see if it helps.
I just want to update everyone in case you are having a problem with the random reboots.
I uninstalled the phone update and it was still randomly rebooting so I backed up the stuff that I needed and just did a factory reset. I have been a full day on my phone without any problems. I did a factory reset twice, just in case, for some crazy reason, the phone still had a problem, I wiped it twice! I think you'll be good with only wiping once.
Anyways to sum it all up, I did a factory reset, restored all of my backed up data from my pixel, I had about 120 apps and the phone has not had a problem since. I hope it helps someone else.

Mate, please report if you're still getting the reboots. Mine disappear for two weeks after I do a factory reset and then come back. Same happens in Safe Mode. Bug report claims it's 'Sense Key : Hardware Error [current]' and Google rep says it's a hardware issue (Toshiba's memory or something). Buganiser thread is here.

Had this on my pixel xl. I was on the 8.1 beta.
factory reset, rolled back to 8.0

haven't had a reboot in over a week now

Yea, the issue is back, has been for about 2 weeks. This phone is really starting to be a pain in the ass, I can't believe that it happens so often. Did you do a warranty fix?
That's a pity. Yes, I did. Got the device roughly two and a half weeks ago. Flashed 8.0 and then sideloaded 8.1 right away. Knock on wood, all good. But there's still a report every other day in Buganiser of a phone even on 8.1 doing this.
Got mine at release. November 16. Google won't replace it either. I have a one pixel brick
I have the same problem. However, it is not frequent enough on Android P beta. But as soon as I go back to the stable build, it starts to do the same thing. Did you guys have any luck resolving this or should I send it back to the vendor I bought it from. They won't replace the device in Pakistan but may be will fix it in some manner.

Need help with my note 20

I'm having this weird issue, where the UI is almost lagging, but it's not quite lagging. IT's like the screen wont update unless I do something to make it update. Like to move to a next screen I will have to drag down the notification bar to get it to load the next screen. I'm not quite sure if that makes sense so here's a video of what I'm talking about. This is severely hindering my usage, and a factory reset did stop it for a while, but now it's happening again. My storage isn't full and I dont have a ton of apps open, and it happens whether I have enhanced processing on or not. or power saving on or not. please help.
Try in safe mode to rule out a 3rd party app as the cause.
When did it start and more importantly what happened before it started?
I haven't installed any new apps within the last 24 to 48 hours and it just started happening again this morning.
I'm gonna try clearing the cache and safe mode and see if it persists. Thank you

Could one of the apps auto updated? I block them to prevent that. Updates and upgrades can and do break things, Samsung updates included.
I don't think so only because this happened before and factory resetting fixed it for a while. And after my factory reset I reinstalled all my normal apps and all updates. And I factory reset maybe 2 weeks ago.

Like I was saying... something caused it.
Unlikely it's corrupted firmware or a hardware issue. Not malware unless you reloaded again.
Social media and shopping apps shouldn't be on a device. So it's likely one or more of the apps... updates can and do break things.
Clearing the cache partition has seemed to have fixed it. I'm guessing maybe it's from the android 13 update I took? I'm thinking I'm gonna switch to the U1 firmware when it comes out for android 13 cause I'm on Verizon branded firmware. My device is a dev phone though. When I boot into download mode it says dev device in big letters lol.

Question Unknown hidden system app after OS 13.1 Update //added major battery drain since apps now won't stay closed after forced close.

Hello there. I think my phone's been compromised. It's been acting up since my last OS update. I have a OnePlus 9 LE2115, currently running oxygen os 13.1.
I was searching through apps because something's draining my battery and i noticed that all of my apps are always running even tho I've turned them all off manually and turned off background data usages. I can't force stop on about 60 percent of my apps anymore.
Upon further inspection, i found a few system apps I've never seen before and cannot find any info on when googling.
App #1- Metis ( i cannot find any info on this at all or delete this app but i have disabled it but i don't think that did anything) when i googled 'Metis ui' this is something that caught my eye... (https://github.com/europeana/metis-ui/blob/develop/package-lock.json) i don't read code so I'm not sure what it even is but it's the only thing i saw that might be relevant to what's installed?
App#2- media:: 10065 ( it doesn't show up as an app normally, just when 'show system' apps on my apps list in settings.
App#3-i think it's from when i installed TikTok on my phone but have since deleted it, but as you can see the 'musically' file was found on my phone after TikTok app was deleted.
I'll attach screenshot of what I'm seeing... Idk what to do. Can you please help me with this?
I was in the same situation with my op9 after update to 13.1 The absolute only way I could achieve proper battery life and it was from a suggestion out of the oneplus community. Factory reset fixed everything. Now I'm getting 22-30 hours off charger and up to 7 hrs Sot. This will fix your issues as well. It stinks but is what has to be done.
Generally, the recommendation is to factory reset after OTA. Sometimes bugs pop up and factory reset fixes them. I have had a few myself lately. Anyways, if it still doesn't fix your issues, I recommend to use MSM Tool to revert back to factory firmware. It will take you back to OOS11. You can then OTA all the way upto latest one. Then do a factory reset and start using the phone.
You could first try to keep device plugged in and charging 30 min to an hour after it's completely full charging to optimize apps See if this works before having to reset device .

I've had it at a full charge and it will last a little longer but all my apps are still running in the background. And it takes so long for my fast charger to charge up my phone too. I was hoping i didn't have to factory reset but... I guess if it's the only thing that can be done for this. I've had to resort to fingerprint locking every app to see if would stop the problem. It didn't. Well, here goes nothing. Time to backup my data. I'll come back after my reset and update. Thank you for your help guys!
If you only started having these issues after updating to 13.1, then its best you do a factory reset. Its not uncommon for weird issues to happen such as battery drain. I once lost the ability to use 5G after an update and a factory reset fixed it. If you believe your phone might be compromised, well a factory reset will fix that too.
