[Q] Q. Runtime ::- Art vs Dalvik ; Which one is better ??

Heyy guyss, I have heard alot about these two runtimes , Art and Dalvik.... And also searched alot...But unfortunately couldn't find my desired info....I m so much confused which one should i use for a better battery life as well as for increased performance..... So if someone clearifies it...i will be very thankfull.... And BTW i m on XT-1033 dual sim indian version With CyanoGenMod 11 Running.....

I would say use android ART but remember it uses a lot more space.

Thanks for reply and can i use it coz i m on cm11 nightly 14/07 ???

Yes you can use it in Cyanogen mod 11.... I am running ART runtime Cyanogen mod 11 nightly 14/06 Moto g XT-1033... But first you must Uninstal xposed framework(if installed) .. Xposed module will not let u to change to ART runtime.

I have just activated Developer Mode on my Galaxy S5 and have changed my runtime to ART to give it a test drive. Device has restarted and is now at the "Android is Upgrading" screen which says "Optimizing app 74 of 379". Let's see what happens!

[Q] Android L Nexus 5 Dalvik

Hello.
Today, installed Android L LPV81C
I just wanted to check, If L has runtime ART. But not, I installed the Art Checker from the Play Store and I saw Dalvik (see attachments)
I don't know if it is true.
Any suggestions to enable art??

Android L only has ART. Dalvik is removed in Android L. The app is reporting ART/Dalvik incorrectly due to incompatibility with Android L

If you search for dalvik in the settings search it will bring up the developer options. It doesn't show a dalvik option but it must still be in the code somewhere.

What about Xposed? That gives you a lot of mods? You can use gravity box with it.

xposed doesn't work ad 5.0 because xposed doesn't support ART

True, I forgot.
So I guess people will have to wait for them to get it to work.
BTW, on the moto g, you can change the runtime to art in developer settings (although it really wasn't made to work on art, so it's not usable), but in lollipop, would I be able to change to dalvik to save storage?

I saw some people saying that xposed is not working even after rooting properly, And it indeed does NOT.
But the reason for Xposed not working is that Xposed is not supported by ART(ANDROID 5.0.1 and Up) and will not work in any device running these android versions.
Rovo89(The creator and mastermind behind Xposed) has released an Alpha build compatible with lollipop.
But since it is in Alpha, expect random bootloops or crashing modules. Nor I or rovo89 will be responsible for anything you do with your device. TRY IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Its not the Lollipop causing problems, Its the x64 platform that's causing the issues

I tried another one which is supposed to be for devices having ARM64 and Lollipop 5.0.x or 5.1.x
but it doesnt work either.

some users reported xposed work with miuipro (5.9.17 - 5.11.19) and only with Xposed MIUI-edition

Factory reset - Wipe data,System,Cache,Dalvik - Flash rom - Flash xposed - Wipe cache - Dalvik
P.S : not tested by me because i'm Comfortable with custom rom, still no plan rollback to miui

I would like to get an app working on Android 5 which uses more of Dalvik.

I see you have already asked this in 2 other area on XDA, so you will need to wait for a reply there. XDA Assist is here to help navigate the site, not for support. :good:
I can tell you, Dalvik is gone in 5.0. There is only Art Runtime. There is no way to have dalvik running on lollipop.
