Hey guys,
the glass on my Nexus' display is shattered so badly, that I really need to do something, as I can already see parts of the logic board and the sensors are not portected anymore.
Everything is working fine so I just need the glas. I checked YouTube and I think I can pull of this kind of repair by myself.
Now I am wondering if I can buy just the cheapest glas out there, for example this one - I hope it is OK to post links: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Neu-Fur-LG-G...32?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_77&hash=item3aa957d050 .
Are there differences in glass quality?
Thanks for your help!
Do you have the glass and lcd separator machine?
No , I don't even know what that is, but in the YouTube videos I saw they didn't need one either. The Nexus 5 screen layers seem to be separate, unlike the nexus 4 where you couldn't use the touch screen with little cracks.

Best of luck with that - you will fail. They're stuck together, and without a special tool you will break them. Also, how do you plan on sticking the new glass to the lcd?!
You need to replace the glass, digitizer and LCD in one go. The part isn't too expensive - about €50.
If you have any experience, can you point me to a model that is good?
eBay and Amazon are full of displays between ~60€ and ~120€, are they all the same?

Personally I would only ever use an OEM part, so one made by LG. Don't go for cheap knock offs.

Thank you. Could you point me to something (if it is not allowed send a link privately). Everything priced below ~100€ seems to be non OEM parts.

Hello.
I reccently bought a NVIDIA Shield Tablet, and after 2 days i had it replaced becase the screen kind of had a "brownish" color tone on one of the bezels. The new one they gave me does not have that problem but the screen is different. When turned off you can see kind of a squared patern on it, and when on you can see that patern on some viewing angles. Is this possible?
Hope to get a quick awnser so i can present this complaint on the seller.
I'm pretty sure you're talking about the digitizer matrix. Is it really visible under bright light at about a 45°angle. Lots of little horizontal striations as well reflecting off the glass?

That's it. But the first one i got, i'm 99% sure it didn't had that. I believe it was a more recent model because it already came with lollypop instaled.
But tell me is it normal that screen on the Shield?
Thanks

But still kind of strange that the previous one didn't have or at least is was not noticeable?!?
It's the first time i see that on a tablet or smartphone.
Hi, I dropped my phone a few days ago and completely smashed the screen. It was still usable for a day or two, but the cracks gots worse and I started to get random touches registered to the point where the phone became unusable. So I went to eBay and purchased a replacement screen assembly including the frame. It arrived today and I have just fitted it, phone boots up perfectly and the picture looks great, but the touch is completely unresponsive.
Have I just been incredibly unlucky and received a dud screen? Is there anything I should do to test it out and make sure there is nothing wrong with the components I have before I contact the seller?
Perhaps you sould review this youtube..... It's excellent.........
I have replaced a few Nexus 5 LCD and digitizer with frame with success

Your link didn't show for the youtube - could you write it out or give some search keywords? I broke my glass and need to decide to fix it or buy a different phone. I've read the other broken screen threads and some of the complaints are the aftermarket stuff aren't OEM and therefore not the best quality or long lasting. Could you say where you bought your LCD and digitizer with frame? thanks, JD

There are no LG OEM parts from aftermarket. Some vendors claim their product was produced in the same factory as the LG parts and therefore are OEM but there is no way to prove this and it is more than likely a lie. Look for a description with something like Grade A or Grade AA. If there is no mention of grade it is likely B stock.
You can try cleaning the connector with alcohol and reseating. If it doesn't you received a dud, it happens even from a reputable seller. On my second replacement I got one that doesn't always calibrate correctly when the screen is awakened.

So I recently broke the screen to my phone and it was working fine but yesterday I started to get lines across the screen and cannot use anymore.
Figured its time to finally buy a replacement screen and I want the one already on the frame. I just can't seem to find one specific to the Korean models the 915 S/K/L.
Instead there are only ones for 915 P/T which is the American models. After looking between the 2 frames many many times I can only spot one difference between the two which is the positioning of the thermal tape right under the one for the CPU. All in all I think it should fit but still hesitant. Does anyone have experience replacing screens on the Edge who has any experience you could share with me.
The first picture is of the frame from my N915S and the second frame is for a listing I have been looking to buy which is for the N915P
Welp, I just tried my luck and ordered the part in and it fit everything without a problem.
For anyone in a similar situation for me it seems like the frames for this phone will fit with all models.

My screen is broken. It's not annoying but i hate it. How in lord's name did you manage to replace your glass and how much did it cost and how much did it cost to replace and where did you replace it at?

Replaced it myself, it's easier to buy the entire frame assembly + screen rather than just the screen as taking off the screen off the frame is a pain.
Also if you buy frame + screen you have a better chance at finding OEM parts rather than chinese knockoff.
Gotta warn you though the replacement for a screen costs more than some whole phones.
Something like this would be optimal: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Excellent-Bl...241748?hash=item4af43d5b94:g:VxkAAOSwT4lWThZa
Tutorial on how to swap over all the parts here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYEwEHRki_8
Mine is the Korean model the 915S and the frame I bought was for 915T and 915P but everything still fit so it shouldn't matter which model frame you buy.

Thanks I'll check it out. And yeah while the pricing is huge, this phone is a one of a kind phone. It still doesn't justify the pricing but I'll let it slide because of how much this phone has helped me out with the multi screen and its note taking features

That's the exact same reason why I wanted to get this fixed. I usually sell off phones before buying a new one but want to keep this around as the first curved phone I ever owned.
Also found out that the headphone jack needs to be replaced with the one that matches your motherboard. Was trying to get audio to work in my car for hours before finding out that the issue was on the phone haha
I have ordered this one
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Fast...90.html?spm=2114.13010208.99999999.274.5R2YVv
for a common dreaded problem of having vertical green lines appearing on LCD from nowhere (although my fault, it got it dropped on flat floor from my shoulder height a couple of times). In my case the green lines are appearing on the edge panel itself only, so the old LCD maybe useful for me to keep just for an emergency replacement as well.
Does this one looks ok, I mean any of the replacement LCD+Frame+Digitizer combo ordered from either ebay or china would rather be coming from only a handful or sources (resellers), and maybe only one or two manufacturers (who might be manufacturing it as OEM as well).
How was your experience with the replacement LCD, does it looks and feels just like original in screen clarity, colours and touch responsiveness.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

I bought mine with a cracked screen and replaced it myself. It was my first time repairing a smartphone and I followed the same instructions as the Youtube video linked above.
I found the process quite easy, luckily most of the components have screws and the video is easy to follow so I was done after 20 minutes. I can't compare with the previous screen by if I do a comparison with other phones we have at home (Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro, Nexus 6) the screen looks fantastic!
Anyone have light leakage on the sides of the phone where the glass meets the frame?
I just saw the thread on this in the main Note 7 forum. I checked my Black Onyx Sprint Note 7 and saw no light leakage on any sides.

Yes, I have it. Checked the display models at Best Buy, and they had it too. I'm thinking it is either normal or at least not uncommon.

No, it's not normal at all. I had this issue on mine 2 days after launch. Best Buy replaced mine without question.

Interesting. It doesn't bother me at all. Would there be any detrimental effects that you know of besides aesthetics? I don't want to exchange it just to get another model just like it. Like I said, I've seen three copies and all had the same light leakage.

None that I'm aware but could be wrong. I am of the mind that as much as I paid for this phone, it should have no aesthetic issues, but that's just me.

I agree. 4 was better
Even if that is the case, I wouldn't count on them replacing the glass. They will put different batteries in the phones and ship them.

Get a replacement display assembly including the frame. You'll have to re-assemble everything on the new frame including the air triggers. The cost difference for a display replacement with/without a new frame is minimal. Not guaranteed to fix the trigger but there is a fair chance it will.

Great thank you for your response. My phone is still under warranty and i think they would have at least tried fixing it until i broke the glass. Do you know of a reputable place to but original screens. I found a few online ranging from 200 to 300 dollars, and i still dont know if any of them are original

Look it up on Ali Express, usally best prices there. $300 sounds overpriced to me, I bought one for ROG 3 a while back for around $140 including frame.
