Wanted to create some folders in my App Drawer, I already have a couple, and it has stopped working.
I go to App Drawer and tap Edit, but dragging an app over another does not give me a folder, it does nothing.
Also, I cannot remove apps fom existing folders I created over the weekend.
Any ideas on how to correct this?
I've got a customer over email with the same issue. Saw a few others mention it in the last few days as well. Oddly enough, only in the last few days. Haven't got an S6 myself, so let's see if we can solve it here. (Where I don't have to walk people through every button.)
Have you tried force stopping and clearing the cache for Touchwiz?
Easy Mode is off?

Yes, I tried all that first.
Found out the issue was my edited other.xml file. I added the line to alphabetize the apps in the app drawer. Soon as I took it out, folder creation is now working. Funny thing is, had no issues for the last week after I edited it, until yesterday.

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this. I've been checking the forums off and on for a couple of weeks and have yet to see the issue brought up.
The title says it all. Ever since I first got my EVO I've been changing the icons within the apk files for all my apps; both system and data apps. And, I never had an issue... Until just recently.
Changing the icons as I do necessitates changing them every time there is an update to an app. However, within the past couple of weeks a few updated apps are Force Closing after I change the icon. I've tried clearing the data and cache for that app as well as clearing the cache for the phone but to no avail. If I redownload the app from the Market all is well again but as soon as I change the icon it Force Closes when I try to launch it. It is only on a couple of apps but is driving me crazy and seems to be increasing. So far I have had it happen with Voicesearch, Root Explorer, and Barcode Scanner. Does anyone have any ideas on the cause and more importantly a fix or workaround?
Thx

Not sure if this is your problem but i had that happen once. It was because the app had switched from a "rgb" png to a indexed icon. I had to mod the icon I was dropping in to make it match. Like I said not sure how or why this worked but worked for me.
Interesting. I've got to admit I am unfamiliar with "indexed icons." How do you determine whether it is an rgb png or an indexed icon and assuming it is an index icon how do you convert a png to one?
For a while now I've been installing CM10.1 nightlies and never had an issue with Root Explorer. A couple days ago it stopped working and closes anytime I long-press anything. I have attached a screen shot of what it does.
Anyone have any ideas why it would do this? I can open it, give it access, even select boxes and delete stuff, but anytime I long-press anything, it closes. I used it and looked in the system/app folder but I can't even locate the app to try any maybe fix the permissions.
With that said, I have not purchased the app from the market, it was sent to me by a buddy. It's the newest one/update and I've never had a problem until a couple days ago. Any ideas would be great because I'm having issues with File Manager and I'm very familiar with RE now.
TL;DR Root Explorer is "Stopping" any time I long-press anything. Just started a couple days ago. Any ideas?
You can try fixing permissions in recovery.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I tried that as well to no avail. Thanks, though.

Have you tried deleting the app and re-installing by chance?
I did, that didn't work either. I typically can search and almost find a solution to anything but this is getting to me. Thanks Andy.

I had the same problem. It turned out to be a permissions issue. I've got Xposed Framework installed with the Xprivacy module enabled. If you don't configure it to allow the correct permissions, it will crash upon opening. If it turned out to be a different issue, please post what you did to fix it.
Has this app stopped working for anyone else here? I tried force closing, and clearing data. Also tried uninstalling and re installing the .apk.
Every time I try to launch it, I get a message that says "Unfortunately, News and Weather has stopped."
Haven't changed anything on the phone. It was working this morning, but when I tried it this afternoon, kept getting the error.
Thanks!
yeah, i think we are having the same problem here

Likewise here in New Zealand on a Note 3. Fine last night, no good today. Have uninstalled, rebooted, tried several different apks now out there (1.3.11 being the newest) - all the same result. I sincerely hope this is a temporary thing, I depend on that app and really dislike the less flexible and more data-hungry alternatives like NewsHog.
same here
exact same thing here. only "new" thing i could remember was a chrome update last night (could definitely be another thing.. jus sayin). now the news and weather app doesn't work just as you guys described. no amount of data clearing and reinstallation works on my ics. - vancouver

Having same difficulty here with an HTC One, Android version 4.3, HTC Sense 5.0, Software number 3.24.531.3, HTC SDK API level 5.45. Likewise, have tried Force Close, clearing Data, clearing Cache. Seems to work once phone is rebooted; text and the local wx/temp shows up. However, when I click on the Genie widget, I (1) first see a progress bar at the bottom of a plain black field, then (2) get the popup, "Unfortunately, News & Weather has stopped. (OK)."
Agreed, it's an invaluable app which came installed on my One. Please fix if possible. Thanks!

Fixed here also now.
I had no Chrome update yesterday that I recall, and updated nothing today except for reinstalls of this app. If you think Chrome was the issue, maybe try winding its version back in app manager?
But I'm guessing it was unrelated, and therefore hopefully your app will come right also in the near future.

Yes, it's working fine as of this morning's reboot. Temporary glitch, apparently. Maybe related to "Google's server down" issue? Whatever it was...it's good to go now. Thanks!
Mine is working again today... Thanks!
Anyone else had this?
Today I removed my calendar widget because it seemed to be syncing improperly, and long pressed the screen to re add it. I tapped widgets, then when I tried to scroll to the next page of widgets, Google Search force closed and kicked me back to the home screen. Repeated three times, same result. Uninstalled updates to Google Search, and the problem stopped but also the home screen went back to the default startup arrangement.

Same issue here. I have even just reflashed a stock factory image and it still happens, must be a recent Google Search (launcher) update that is breaking things. Don't seem to be many people reporting this issue though...

Found another post that cured this problem.
Clear Cached data in Settings/Storage/Cached Data
Worked for me!

Same problem here. But I don't think it was because of adding widget.
I did nothing and it just happened. Both text search and voice search stopped responding.
After rebooting, it worked for a while then it crashed again.
FYI, my problem happened before there's an update yesterday. After updating new version, the problem is still there.
I own both Nexus 4 and 5. The symptom only appeared on Nexus 5.
Okay I'll try upgrading again to see if it still crashes. I have a Titanium Backup of the current setup.
Alright, tried that. Immediately after the upgrade, it once again crashes when I open the widgets menu. However, clearing the cache does indeed fix it. Thank you!
I'm slowly leaning back towards just ditching this to return to Nova Launcher though. The new features I use so rarely anyway.

bad widget, bad!
Encountering this same issue for the last 2 days, although I haven't tried to add a new widget in over a week. Attempted clearning cache, and uninstalling any recent apps - no fix. Multiple restarts - issue persists.
I'm running ART... can anyone else verify that they get this issue whether or not they've changed their runtime?
cheers
Art seems to be the cause here, well definitely was for me.
solution
Simple, but effective.
I continued to have this problem until I turned OFF Google Now, then turned it back ON. From that point on I have had no problems adding widgets or changing wallpaper using either runtime.

This worked perfectly for me; tried clearing apps cache through system settings, didn't work. Went into recovery, cleared cache, solved it. Thanks!
Sorry to bump an old post but I'm having this problem (not running ART), and clearing dalvik + cache didn't fix it for me. Any other things I can do to fix this?
For some reason, the talkback service has decided to tell me it is activated even though it is not. I have a persistent notification that won't go away. Since it's a system service, there is no way to just hide the notification. Any ideas?
Clearing the cache and rebooting didn't help either.
Did you ever figure this out I have the same problem on sprint. You can't even disable the Talkback app.
Nope. I did a factory/hard reset last night. Still the same issue.
I haven't installed any apps I didn't have on my GS5, so it can't be an app's fault. Going to do an exchange at the AT&T store in the next day or two. I'm not getting stuck with something like this.

This would be a workaround (if it does work), but try tapping and holding on the notification, and then click on the "i" icon to see which app is displaying the notification. If it's a stand-alone app (i.e. not the Android system), then you should be able to block notifications for that app.

Thank you, but it is the system app doing it. I'm just going to swap for a different S6 at the store tomorrow. Got my app data backed up to the cloud thanks to Helium.
The messed up part is it literally happened right when I got my phone. I'm gonna try a factory reset then if not try to get it swapped out
@dizzymatt Still have it? It mysteriously disappeared for me today. I was literally going to go to the store this afternoon to exchange this thing. Maybe I got lucky or sensed I was coming!
Afterward, though, the oddest thing happened. I was looking through the store for a different Google product and came across this one called Google talkback. I thought that was very weird to find right after I had had this issue. When I clicked on it, it allowed me to uninstall it. Never saw it in my apps list or the application manager, but there it was. Again, this is after the notification went away from me so I have no idea if this is related.
Here is the link. Maybe uninstalling it will help you.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.marvin.talkback
Seen what you said and I didn't have the app installed but it just disappeared for me too after I rebooted my phone I wonder what it was.

Now I'm wondering if it was related to Google Now since the notification and the ability to say "Ok, Google from any screen went away about the same time.
Disabling Talk back
I got stuck on a 15 minute hell ride when I accidentally turned on my Talkback feature on my new S6. I couldn't turn it off even after toggling the stupid settings. I finally was able to turn it off by tapping the home screen button three times.. apparently that is the On/Off switch for the accessibility features. After it finally stopped talking back to me I went in to manually toggle the off button on that ridiculous feature.
Same problem / solved ?
I had same problem with notification
Decided I would try enable, so that I could then disable
Seems to have done the job
