Hello,
i'm using an encrypted, unrooted and stock Nexus 4 with Android 5.1. My question now is, could someone who gets hold of my phone in a decrypted state (turned on) gain access to the documents on it? Would he still have to guess the pin / password or would he only need to know this if the phone is actually turned off (and by that, encrypted)?

Hi all,
I'm running CM11 on a Moto G. Due to work requirements I encrypted my phone via the security settings. It all went as expected, until I got to the screen where I have to enter my password to decrypt storage...
Once I enter the correct password, it loads a screen with an android on (I think it was similar to the one from the encryption screen) very briefly, then goes blank. I presume it turns off as it doesn't do anything else for quite a while. If I reboot and try enter an incorrect code, it prompts for the right code, so I'm definitely entering the correct pin.
My questions is - is there any way around this (without wiping the phone)? Any idea what's gone wrong?
I can still access recovery, but obviously it's rather limited as it's all encrypted. Is there any way I can connect via PC to get my files and decrypt them as I know the password?
Hey here,
short story: Mum forget her fingerprint password and now we have to wait 1 hour after she tries it for two times...
I thought it should be easy to reset the password after installing the android device manager to the smartphone (since i do have access to the google account) and then create a new lockscreen pattern.
But nope - i've sent the command from the website, that the google device manager should be installed but nothing happens and i can't retrieve the status from the device manager
But the part which irritates me mostly is, i can't even do a freakin wipe trough the eRecovery and the eRecovery Update mechanism fails completely. Fastboot also doesn't help because the phone is locked.
And since ADB Debuging and uknown sources isn't available i can't do anything here...
Since i have no chance of getting my pictures back i wanted to ask if any1 here has a tipp how i can atleast reset the phone?
Best regards

Hi all,
Long-time lurker - used info here ages ago to mod a tablet, but right now I'm working on my fiancee's phone, which is an unrooted Galaxy S7.
Yesterday, her phone took a complete **** out of nowhere. It spontaneously rebooted, said it was applying an update, and then the Android dude fell over with an exclamation mark next to him. She had just finished recording some audio that she *really* wants to get back (a press conference she got into at Comic Con).
The message now on the phone is:
Phone storage corrupt
The data partition has been corrupted. You need to reset your phone to factory default settings. This will erase all your data.
I've tried to connect to Windows and I can't get at the device - I have no way to change whatever connection mode it's going into by default. I've also tried getting into the phone through ADB, but the device isn't recognized.
I could really use some advice here
Anyone?
Thanks,
-Jeff

Reboot into recovery/download mode and see if you can access adb. If not flash stock firmware in Odin (Not csc, as that will wipe data)
If flashing stock works, I would flash stock again after you get the data you want (including csc the second time)
Sent from my SM-G935U using XDA Labs
Eek. The data header gets marked as corrupt when this message appears. Chances are it will reappear after reflashing and because Samsung encryption is proprietary it will be hell to recover. If Craz's suggestion fails you may need to chalk this one up as a loss
Hello, I have a problem with a friend's Redmi Note6pro.
The phone suddenly restarted, and since then it turns on, redmi logo for 3 / 4sec and then turns off.
Same thing if I try to go into recovery with vol +, while I can go into fastboot with vol-.
It is FUNDAMENTAL first of all, even more important to reset the phone, save the data inside it (photos, videos and whatsapp chat), the app settings do not interest me.
I did some tests with adb to see if I could access the data (I'm pretty sure, having done the configuration of the cell to my friend when she got it new, that I have activated the usb debugging), but since the phone goes only in fastboot I was unable to access the data saved inside (the command adb device gives no result).
I found a guide to flash a rom with Miflash without deleting the data, but the guide talks about unlocked bootloader, which has never been done on this phone.
Now, since I am not interested in loading a mod rom but I would reload the official rom, is it possible to do all the procedure described WITHOUT unlocked bootloader?
I'm only interested in accessing the cell to save the data, after doing that I can also reset the phone, so I don't necessarily need a 100% "working" rom.
And above all, do I have the ABSOLUTE certainty of saving the data inside the phone (rather than risk losing the data, I will return the cell to the owner and see her)?
Thanks for who will answer
(sorry for my english, i'm italian ad i use google translate)
Hello, my wifes stock S21+ crashed and rebooted. It now boots up, accepts SIM card pin code but UI crashes to black screen and reloads when you enter the pattern to unlock the phone. Phone is still locked and it asks for the pattern again. I can't activate developer mode/USB debugging because of this. I can call the phone and answer the call so the phone works, it just doesn't want to unlock.
Is there any way to get the data out? We do have backups but unfortunately yesterdays sons christmas event didn't get yet uploaded to the cloud. The phone has warranty but support said they will wipe the phone. I don't care about keeping phone under warranty, all I want is yesterdays data.
Safe mode has the same problem. I already tried flashing current and older stock firmware with Odin but same problem persists. Is there any other thing I could try?
