Hi!! I'm up to recieve my new 1+1 and I have some doubts...
First of all, i've read about some screen issues, but i'm actually a bit confused about it, that issue, affects to all versions? both oxygen OS and CM?
Another doubt... I think the phone comes with oxygen OS, and ofcourse i'll flash a custom kernel, a custom recovery, and i guess a ROM too, but there are too many threads to read and i'd like to know some of your recommendations
And the last thing... is there something i should care about? some batery drains, cracked edges or something?? let me know that!
Thx for your attention, i'll be more frequently over here
1)touch issue depends whether its a hardware or software issue. If its software then new cm12.1 nightly seems to fix that issue.
2) if yo need stability then stick with oxygen os or cm12s with lots of tweaks. otherwise cm12.1 (roms based on 12.1) are good for daily drivers at this point.
3) why would would it have damage it if you are receiving a new phone? Let's be positive

1. The screen issues apply to some phones, regardless of the ROM that's installed.
2. See this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/best-favorite-rom-kernel-roll-thread-t2886021
3. I've had this phone for ten months and no physical problems at all. Battery drain will depend on factors like which apps you have installed, your signal strength, etc. You'll probably get drain from Google Play Services, in which case you should check this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2832525
Another thing, you should unlock your bootloader as soon as you get the phone because it wipes all user data. So it's best to do it before you put any apps or data onto the device. My guide thread should help you along:

Hey guys,
I have a VZW HTC One M8 with the following version details:
Cyanogenmod 11-20141112-snapshot-m12-m8
Unlocked bootloader
M8_WLV PVT SHIP S-OFF
CID-VZW__001
HBOOT-3.16.0.0000
RADIO-0.89.20.0222
OPENDSP-V26.2.2-00538-M8974.0106
OS-
eMMC-boot
This phone came to me with a clean Cyanogenmod install on it. I wiped it anyway to be sure. I have an S3 that I've been running CM11 on up until I got this phone so I'm no stranger to Cyanogenmod.
My issues appear to be randomly occurring and I cannot seem to pin down what is causing it or when it actually happens. Here are the various issues I'm seeing:
1. Screen fails to reorient when being turn - this happens system wide, even the home screen fails to reorient. Perhaps a problem reading the gyro sensor?
2. Lux values get stuck, usually at 45. Ambient light sensor?
3. Double tap to wake stops working - need to use the sleep/wake button to turn the screen on. Can still double tap the status bar to turn the screen off
4. Incorrect battery reporting - The battery appears to drain normally and at a consistent pace, however if the phone is shutoff or rebooted I will sometime see a huge drop when the phone boots back up.
I have a screenshot from the phone this afternoon but cannot post it (attachments fail to upload on this forum). I can probably PM it to you though.
I noticed if the phone gets to 5%, sometimes ~15% it will just turn off because the battery has actually died but the OS thinks differently.
The first 3 issues fix themselves after reboot.
Oh and I've noticed that the profiles feature doesn't work properly. If the ring mode is set to vibrate on the work profile, it will stay in vibrate even when it switches back to the default profile which is set to ring mode. The phone will not let me set custom notification sounds with Profiles enabled either. Example: Hangouts uses the notification sound as set by the default in Settings. I cannot change this. I can turn off Profiles and I can change the notification tone on Hangouts all day long.
Not quite sure what I should be looking at here so any guidance or suggestions would be much appreciated. Let me know if you need any more details.

You are running cm. Probably known cm bugs or possibly you need different firmware. Either way, there's no such thing as a hardware problem until it exists on stock software.

I forgot to mention in my original post:
I already searched around for the various issues I'm having but was not able to find any mentioning of them in any known issues lists. Was hoping to see if any devs on here had suggestions on things to try.

Thanks for those links. I was looking in the official known problem lists for Cynogenmod for these issues to see if they actually confirmed anything. I will look at possibly installing a nightly and testing with that, but I'm a bit reluctant to go that route since this is my daily driver.

^ Can't disagree with that, but I loathe the bloatware and manufacturer UI and skins they put on their devices, not to mention the freedom and functionality I lose out on by going back to a more or less stock experience. If I want stock non-CM, I'll just flash 5.0 GPE and see how that goes, but I've already tested with that as well and missed the functionality that CM brings. :/
Win/Lose.
Do you think the firmware (not the ROM/OS) is highly out of date and should be updated by now?

Yes you should update that firmware. There's an emmc controller firmware update amongst other things included you should have. Have you tried gpe or stock with some of the xposed modules now available?
So, just received my new OPO yesterday in the mail. Immediately I unlocked it and rooted it. Then I went into doing some research about which ROM/kernel combination is the best on this forum. I don't know too much about flashing and all of that so I didn't want any ROMS that were too different from the vanilla (stock) lollipop look and feel. I've watched videos and flashed CM12 nightlies (including installing CyanDelta, to update the nightlies) and the AK kernel which a lot of people have been using. I have a couple questions for you and would appreciate it if you could respond to each of them stated bellow:
1. The camera on this ROM seems to be pretty poor. The stock camera app (not the google camera app) takes pictures but the quality is poor. I'm coming from an iphone 5 which had a worse spec'd camera but the performance was better. I'm guessing its the software behind IOS that made it good. But is there a ROM or something i could do to improve the camera's image quality? It looks good before taking it but after wards when i go back to look at the photo it comes out terribly blurry. I need to figure this out and see if its a defect in my unit or if its normal.
2. Which ROM/kernel do you suggest as something stable. I want one with good battery life but still gives me buttery smooth performance. I also want it as stock lollipop as possible. I'm currently running CM12 nightly (2/21) with AK kernel as stated before. And which kernel settings do you suggest?
3. I use WugFresh's bacon tool kit to flash roms and to root and everything and i was wondering if there was a way to have an app automatically install roms and kernels for me. I've heard of Titanium Backup but i'm not too familiar with its features. Can you suggest a program or app that would make the process simple and user friendly?
Before flaming me please understand that I HAVE read through many posts and ROMS and would personally like to have my questions answered in one complete post.
Thank you!

1. Changing ROMs will have no effect on the camera performance. I had taken some really outstanding photos with this camera though, and so have many others (there's a photo sharing thread in the general section if you'd like to see them). Can you show some examples of bad photos you've taken?
2. There's an entire thread dedicated to this subject, it's a sticky in the general section. Take a look if you really want guidance. But you must remember it's impossible to answer because what one person likes the next person will hate. You're just going to get one hundred different opinions. The moral of this story? Test for yourself and find out.
3. Why are you using a toolkit in the first place? It really isn't necessary. Plus, it's allowing you to do things to your device without actually knowing what's going on. You're bypassing some really crucial learning and experience, and it's this much needed experience that will get you out of trouble in future. Which leads me to the next point, toolkits cause problems, just look through the q&a section and you'll see thread after thread of people saying "I was doing X with this toolkit and now my phone won't boot". Flashing ROMs is simple, flashing kernels is simple, even using fastboot to flash the stock images is simple, a monkey could do these things. It might seem daunting at first but after a couple of times you'll be completely comfortable doing it. Noobs use toolkits, and those noobs that continue to use toolkits will continue to be noobs unless they take some initiative and get their hands a little dirty. If you need help I have a very easy to understand guide thread here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2839471
Anyway, there are apps that will flash ROMs for you, but do not use them. They are unreliable and end up bricking phones. It only takes a minute to flash a ROM/kernel in your recovery anyway, and at least you know you're doing it right.
That should answer all of your questions, and if you have any more please do ask.

One thing I forgot to mention. Titanium Backup is probably the single most important app you can have on a rooted phone. It has nothing to do with flashing ROMs, bit it's incredibly important if you are flashing ROMs. You can use it to backup your user apps (along with their data) so when your switch ROMs you can just restore those app backups easily. It has the ability to backup system apps and system data too, but this is something that should generally be left alone when switching ROMs unless you want major problems.

This is actually EXACTLY my current build. I love the camera too. My battery life is pretty good. Performance is good. What's the difference between ak and Franco kernel? Also, what kernel settings are you running on? What's your battery life on average?
I have received my 1+1 a couple of days ago. Straight away I realised the poor battery life. Well, by poor I mean comparing it to some people and how they praise it.
I have flashed Lollipop but I totally hated the Ui - it seemed so small (status bar) I think it was the slim kat ROM. Battery life still wasn't phenomenal. Using both, stock cm11s and few Lollipop custom roms I came to a conclusion that right now, there is not even a single STABLE ROM. By stable i mean no FCs and decent battery life. I surely can't be right, don't know if my phone is faulty or if I'm doing something wrong. I also came across different versions of CM11s? Something like 44s or something like that. Could someone explain it to me since I can't find the answer anywhere to what it's referring to? Also apparently one version is "better" than the other? Here are my questions relating to my problems. As of today, what is the most stable ROM for our fantastic device? Be it kit kat or Lollipop (though I prefer kit kat) What is the difference between cyanogenmod 11s and cyanogenmod 11? Am I better off (stability and battery wise) flashing cm12 nightlies or stay on stock 11s? I will add that i have searched and browsed through the forum for answers but I simply couldn't find anything either specific enough or simple to understand. I know that I should be trying all the ROMs by myself but it would take me forever to decide which one is the best for me. Many of you guys have tried most if not all of them and can give me a feedback I hope which I appreciate very much. Thanks for your time.

I have tried BlissPop, but basically came up to same conclusions as you, battery life was worse than stock, and the UI still feels a little quirky. Switched back to stock. I believe the most stable ROM would be the current stock CM 11S:

Slim ROM has a smaller status bar because it uses a lower DPI, therefore fitting more onto the display at once. Anyway, I run Vanir-Exodus and my battery life is fantastic.

Cyanogen worked with OnePlus to release a dedicated version for OnePlus One (CM11S)
I believe Cyanogen released themselves Cyanogemod 11 that is compatible with OnePlus One (CM11). Im not 100% sure.
There are slight differences between them.
There wont be a CM12S. It will be released simply as CM12 and be compatible with the OnePlus One.
In theory, CM11S should be the most stable. The source is available: https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_oneplus_bacon

What about it confuses you? 44S is a build build number of CM11S, they were released like this: 22R > 25R > 30O > 33R > 38S > 44S > 05Q

Wait; How can you say they are the same ROM and then say "except for a couple of proprietary apps"? That automatically means its not the same ROM :S
Here is the thing CM11 started to roll out around end of 2013. CM11S is based on a CM11 that was released in April 2014. There are fixes, proprietary apps, etc. you mentioned. CM11, at the end of 2013, was released for all devices at the same time and the code is exactly the same. It isnt exactly the same as CM11s

I really have my doubts on that. I know that was announced but....I think its gonna be CyanogenMod 12 period, released for S5, M8, etc........and OnePlus One (bacon). I dont think they are going to make another specialized for OnePlus One (unless of course there is a legal obligation, and even so, I wont trust it too much)
Oh cheers. I've read that say 05q has a terrible battery life, where as 44s is best of them all. The part that confused me was that I didn't know it was referring to cm11s. Thanks for clearing that out.

You're splitting hairs there. Apps don't make a ROM. The real difference between CM11S and CM11 is that the nightlies (CM11) are ahead in terms of commits (and therefore possibly bugs). CM11S is the "stable" version of CM11, much like a milestone release. Only the first build of CM11S (22R) was based on the CM11 of April 2014. Each successive build of CM11S is based on the state of CM11 nightlies (commits etc) at the time of release of each CM11S build. They are the same ROM. This is a well known fact.
You can have your doubts all you like but it's pure speculation, and it isn't actually based on any facts or verified information. It's just false information spread by baseless rumours. CM12S is currently in the process of being authorized by Google to be released officially. This information is all readily available if you keep up with the information being provided by CM.
battery life
Stick to CM11. I used to get 3.5hr of screen time.
Now that I switched to CM12 nightlies 20150316, I'm down to 2.5hrs of screen time, so 2 full days vs 1.5 days now.
I think 12S will be similar to 11S
CM + extra apps like camera, maxxaudio + hardware specific optimizations like touchscreen, bionic (if that still exists on art)
See Battery in settings to see which app is draining battery
If you havn't already checked which apps are hogging your battery then go over to Settings-->Battery
and then see the apps which are draining your battery.
If Google Play Services is occupying the no.1 spot thne Enable Privacy Guard for it and disable the option for Keep Awake and Wake Up by it.
You can find this in Settings-->Privacy
Another fix is that you disable Gestures(all 3) and also disable 'Wake on double tap'.
Well, I'm sure this topic has be chewed thousands of times and then chewed again a thousand times more...
So I apologize for that in advance.
But I'm looking for a ROM for my OPO that I will settle with. And the Kernel which works best with it.
I was originally on CM11s (stock) and then tried a lot of different ones during the last few months. I'm currently running MAHDI ROM because it gave me a lot of features which have been interesting enough at the beginning but which I realistically don't need anymore. At least not most of them. And the main reason I don't wanna stay with MAHDI is the amount of crashes I'm having lately with almost any app I'm using including 'Contacts' which crashes often when I just answer the phone call. The phone restarts on it's own, volume bars are all messed up etc. So to sum up, I want to change.
Oxygen OS is not the one I'd like due to the lack of features. I don't need much features that MAHDI offers but I still need some which Oxygen OS does not provide. At all.
I'm planning to change to CM12 (official) and stay there. However, I've heard plenty of bad reviews regarding stability issues, battery extensive drain and some others. How legit are all those reviews? Is it all facts or it's selective like most of the issues users report? Mentioning CM12, I've heard that certain Kernels fix most of the issues, especially the stability ones and the battery drain issue. Please note that battery is quite important to me. I was quite happy with CM11s, not so much with MAHDI but then again, it's not awful. Which kernel works best with CM12 regarding stability and battery life?
Or there are better ROMs than CM12 regarding stability and battery life while not lacking in features?
Again, I know there have been plenty of topics and posts about it but I'd like some help here as I can't dig through thousands of topics and millions of posts to find the proper answer I'm looking for.
Thanks in advance.
There's a ROM review thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/best-favorite-rom-kernel-roll-thread-t2886021
My personal favourite is Exodus though. The only reason I'm not on it right now is because it isn't at 5.1 yet (although they say the update is coming in the next days). You don't need a custom kernel with Exodus, the stock kernel performs really well. It's packed full of great features, it's original development too which means it isn't just cherry-picked features. Plus there's a new feature being implemented called Morph that they say is going to be incredible.

Can anybody link me to any? I see people in several posts referencing battery life and also temperature issues to be dependent on kernels and which one you chose, but I don't see any to choose lol. A popular one seems to be arde and a Google search doesn't bring anything relevant up. Is there a list of kernels somewhere? I think I'm starting to prefer stock actually. Is there some for stock and cm based?

A popular one seems to be arde and a Google search doesn't bring anything relevant up. Is there a list of kernels somewhere? I think I'm starting to prefer stock actually. Is there some for stock and cm based?

Well I clearly stated that I Googled it. I wouldn't be posting this if I didn't. The only real relevant link appears to be the first one and it's in Spanish. Using Chrome to translate I still can't seem to make sense of an organize the links, nor do all of them work. Excuse me for thinking someone might have reorganized them somewhere in English.

I also had it translated to English, and I could understand it well.
Group 1 and Group 2 are for STOCK
CM and CM OC are for CM
Aren't most of them included in the ROMs? I've finally got it where I got CM12 not running that hot, at least to the touch anyway. The kernel auditor app still is showing numbers sorta high
I was under the thought that the ARDE kernels dont work with the newer type builds.
One other thing.....they are in .img formats. Isn't that for bootloaders and reocveries? Can you flash a kernel as an img file in twrp?

I used to use it way back in the day with Samsung phones lol. So you can flash a kernel IMG with it? Would that delete TWRP? Or do these kernels have TWRP ingrained or something? Last time last phone I was flashing kernels they were just Zips. That's what I'm used to, I'm just a little confused why they are boot IMG's on this phone.

LOT'S of differences in these Chinese phones vs the flagships. All in all, pretty solid phones, but better left with minimal modifying, as the hardware, software, and development just aren't on par. After trying 2 ROM's, with bad result, I am just going to stick with stock rooted, TWRP, and Xposed. You can already freeze/uninstall the little bloat there is, and because of no hardware method of booting into TWRP, risk vs gain just isn't worth it for me. Anyway, I don't think you will lose TWRP by flashing kernel. I'm not knocking any of the dev's......far from it! I just don't feel the need to spend so much time modifying what is such a small footprint (178 elements for me, vs 380 in touchwiz flagships!) for little, if any gain in battery or performance. Just one nerd's opinion.

Try installing that arde OC kernel i mentioned in the other post. There's not much you even have to mess with with it, it's already set. It has helped out things majorly and I still get stock battery life even.

I flashed the kernel, and when it rebooted, it stayed stuck at Alcatel screen. Wouldn't respond to adb/fastboot commands, finally decided to try to reflash/update using update software, but when I turned it off, as soon as I plugged it into PC, it would boot to Alcatel screen. So then I tried to put it in download mode, and after many tries, got it there, but update tool would fail at5%, saying device not recognized. Finally, some how trying to get into download mode, it booted into TWRP. Yay!.....or so I thought. I wiped and then restored, and when it booted, back to Alcatel screen. Managed to get it back to TWRP after several tries, and it turned out that something unmounted system. Wiped, restored, mounted, wiped cache and dalvic, put it in freezer, as the only time it gets hot is when I wipe caches.....takes about 5 minutes to update/reboot. Now all is good, but I'm going to stick with stock rooted, as even out of the box I never experienced any lag. I have even underclocked with ROM toolbox pro, 1344 for top cores, 960 for bottom, powersave governor. Still no lag! :good: I have Cricket 60450,btw. This really is a different animal than the EVO and Galaxy phones I have been using since 2010. I dont understand how you can have such wildly different variables with similar hardware....I have a ZTE Warp Elite with 2gb RAM, and when i clear junk/caches it gets down to 10-16% memory usage, and tops out at about 65%. The Idol will clear to mid 40% and quickly gets to low 80%. Is the difference that bad between 5.0.2, and 5.1.1? Anyway, if you get stuck like I did, just keep powering off, and rebooting with power, vol up, down, both, and you can get into TWRP. Wish I could say there was a specific order/procedure to get there, but it just seemed to be a case of repetition. Hope this can be of help if anyone gets stuck at splash for whatever reason, and can't get phone to respond with PC. Also, have any cricket users used the upgrade tool, and if so, did that SIM unlock? Don't know if that's a separate firmware/chip that controls SIM lock. So much for my rambling adventures, but hopefully if someone gets stuck they can use my experience to get into recovery.
