I recently acquired an htc one m7. i decided it would be cool to root it and put a custom rom ( i have had experience in this i have done it on my s3 my galaxy tab 2.0 and a galaxy express) so i unlocked my bootloader, flashed a custom rom and rooted my device and i decided (stupidly) to erase everything from the device (System, data, internal storage, cache, and dalvik cache) but then i realized i didnt have the file on my phone and couldnt do anything with it so i started researching. i tried to gain s-off but with every solution i need to be booted up but i dont have an os so i cannot. i tried adb sideloading the file and it just errors. i tried pushing the file and flashing it and it errors. i tried fastboot flashing it but it wont verify it. i read on a forum on this site that said to flash roms with s-on you need to flash the boot image after. i tried this and it didnt work either. i also tried flashing the factory RUU with hasoon2000's all-in-one toolkit. this did not work. ive tried different recovery (but not different versions of these recoveries) everytime i try flashing a rom it errors and says it couldnt detect filesystem for /dev/block/plat then it cuts off and after it says mount: failed to mount /dev/block/platform/msn_ then it cuts off then it continues unmount of /system failed: no such volume (even tho in my file directory there defiantly is one) then it says patching system image unconditionally..... failed to open /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc. 1/b E: error executing epdater binary in zip ' /sdcard then cuts off. i have no idea how to fix this sorry for such a long post please help me.

PLEASE PLEASE HELP i tried unlocking and rooting my nexus s, but i epic failed... now i can only access the bootloader... so i accessed it... unlocked it.. then tried to flash the clockworkmod recovery.. it said OKAY but then just gets stuck at the google screen with an unlocked lock.. i can't even access my phone.. i can only access the bootloader and im freaking out please help !
I don't like 3.0.2.4 so download http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988686 corresponding to your Nexus S model
rename it to recovery.img [assure that you have extensions shown otherwise it'll be recovery.img.img]
put it in /sdk/tools/
set your phone in bootloader mode
cd <wherever your SDK is>
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
go into recovery
OH MY GOSH, KAY NOW I HAVE CLOCKWORK MOD but i can't access my internal SD card.. and it still won't fully boot.. again it just gets stuck at the google bootscreen.. but atleast i have clockwork mod.. so whats next ? :O
so i got clockwork recovery, and as soon as i get into it.. it gives me a bunch of errors about not being able to mount cache and find it and find the recovery.log (about 8 or 9 lines of code).. but the recovery still works.. and i found a stock zip from google search.. now i tried to flash it (by first mounting my storage.. then putting the zip on my storage).. then tryed to a restore from the recovery.. it checks MD5 sums.. then it gives me a lot more error codes... could you please help ?
Well, to begin with, you should specify your phone model and provider because each build needs different ROM. And you shouldn't flash any random ROM from google. Instead try to lookup for the correct stock ROM in the Nexus S Development forum.
well im with Rogers Wireless (From Canada) and my phone model is the GT-I9020 and the problem im pretty much getting now is that it can't find boot and cache partitions...
EDIT** i can access adb aswell now
Have you tried downloading and flashing a custom rom from the nexus s android development section? (CM7 for instance) You mentioned previously that you put a stock zip to your internal storage but ended up restoring instead? Try downloading a custom rom, mount USB drive, copy the rom to the sdcard, unmount USB drive, wipe factory, wipe cache, advanced>wipe dalvik, choose zip to install, install the custom rom. Ideally that should get you past the Google logo and into a working build.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
the thing is.. it can't even restore the original zip.. like the partitions can't be found.. and it seems like its a brick now plus the phone isnt rooted... i was trying to root it.. then this whole thing came up...
When you say restoring from original zip, are you talking about a nandroid backup? Or a stock rom you downloaded? In any case, I would still recommend doing what I mentioned earlier. And no, your phone is not bricked at all.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
it's a nandroid backup ( i took the img. bundle in the folder thats labeled with the date *ie. 2010-12-22.21.06.07*).. i tried installing this as a backup.. and it wouldn;t work.. i got *checking md5 sum.. then 6 or 7 lines of code all seeming to relate to not being able to mount the cache partition and not being able to find recovery.log in the /cache... so i think my cache-ext is screwed up.. I tried using the sdpart script in adb.. and it didnt help matters... so im not sure what to do now
I have had my Nexus S 4g rooted for sometime and have flashed many roms, so I'm not a complete nooby... but for some reason I'm stumped right now.
I woke up this morning to my phone in the TWRP recovery thing and I just tried to restart my phone but it wouldn't boot up so I figured I would just restore to a previous ROM and all of my backups were just gone. This is the error I have: error opening /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/randomcharacters
But that was way at the bottom, above it I see all these notifications saying that nothing is mounting... so I go and wipe all my stuff to try to re-install the ROM I already had because it had been working very nice and it was just gone. Couldn't find it at all so I figure ok... let's just mount it and put the ROM on my phone... but when I try that my computer tells me that I need to insert a disk into the removable disc.
So right now I really have no clue what to do and I can't use the one click stock since I can't get to my phone to turn on USB debugging.
Any help?
Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere but I was unable to find anything similar.
And I have tried unrooting using this site:
nexusshacks. com/nexus-s-4g-hacks/how-to-unroot-nexus-s-4g/
However, it doesn't work after "fastboot flash system system.img"
And when I go look at the log thing in TWRP I get this:
*Verifying filesystems...
*Verifying partition sizes...
E: Unable to mount /system
(x20 with different things!)
E:failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)
Gah! Have no idea how this happened!!

Can you go into fastboot? I would try to fastboot flash recovery, flash CWM and start from there. If it still wouldn't work i would presume that either your NAND went bad or that somehow the partitions got screwed... I do remember something similar happening to me on my wife's SGS and the solution was a Odin flash of a stock ROM to restore the partitions.

I can go into fastboot! That is the mode I'm in.
I am currently trying to unroot my device using the unroot guide from nexusshacks. com but I get a forever hang time when it is writing my system.
So I just flashed CWM but I am no sure what to do from here! I tried mounting sd card and usb but neither worked. However, I did see an option to format my sd card. Should I do that directly from CWM? And in the advanced menu I see an option to partition my sd card.
At this point I just want to have my phone back in working condition.
You can try to format the SD card, but i think it won't work... If it doesn't work try to search for Odin and the files to restore to stock ROM, maybe it can fix the partitions... The SD card partition option in CWM i never used, so i'm not sure what it does in this case.
So I tried the Odin and I'm still stuck in the writing system stage... I have no idea what to do at this point.

Seems your NAND reach its end. There's allot of topics regarding that problem with the Nexus S and every single one of them ended up with the OP sending the phone to Samsung or getting a new phone...
Hey guys!

I got my HTC 4 days ago so Im not an expert at all...
Mainly when my friends saw that the rom failed and my phone got stuck in the bootloop the tried mounting the phone to the computer via recovery but the phone said that the mount failled! they did the wipe of cache and factory somthing...(i cant remember exactly cuz they did it and not me).
I have read that i need to install the RUU and i did but i got the error 132 signicher failed... so i did what was in here:

Download twrp recovery IMG and flash it through fast boot to get recovery back.. Then go to boot loader select fast boot again and run cmd OEM relock and as long as you are using an ruu with the same or higher hboot you have currently have it will work.. If it doesn't then you need a different ruu...again the ruu needs to be same or higher than hboot version currently installed..

well after countless hours i was able to get the recovery back!
the problem now is that in the recovery i press "mounts and storage" and "mount USB storage" it wrote:" E:unable to open ums lunfile (no suchfile or directory) "... im in the CWM recovery and the usb cable is connected to the conputer with the installed drivers...
also, i tried installing RUU's and they all failed in the same place :"signicher failled"
i noticed that there was a website where i could download all the original RUU's but is has shutted down for some reason...
BTW if there are any files i need to download could you please post the link cuz i have no idea where to look... if you cant post the link for some reason could you please post the full name of the file?
So I have advanced and now im in this situation:
I have a TWRP recovery... I enter mount. Check mount storage, data, cache but sd card wont mount...
X Unmount System
X Unmount DATA
X Unmount Cache
O Mount SD Card
My computer sees the phone as removble and askes me if i want to format it!
Should I format or should do something else?

Format it then again install recovery through fast boot.. On your PC pick and download a custom rom.. Open zip and extract boot.IMG file to PC in the location of your fast boot..boot phone into recovery mount SD ( it will mount fine after you format and re flash recovery ) move ROM zip to SD card... Boot back to fast boot this time open terminal type...fastboot flash boot boot.img... When done do... Fastboot wipe cache.... Then boot to recovery wipe every thing except SD card 3 times and install ROM zip.. After process is complete wipe only both caches one time... Reboot and you'll be good to go...

Thanks!!!
That worked! Your a genius!
Not sure if anyone will check this thread anymore, but Im having almost the exact same issues as the guy above ^ and I tried the solutions given in this thread and Im still stuck on a bootloop. I have another thread on here and people are trying to help me but still nothing works. Ive tried installing dark jelly cuz they told me you dont have to worry about flashing a boot.img and it installed fine but went right into bootloop. So im kinda stuck. just branching out for answers at this point. Thanks for any help
Hey guys,
Finally decided to flash a new rom (NOS M7) and kernel (KillX) onto my phone, I loaded up the zips onto my sd card and just flashed it using recovery only. I didn't flash boot.img in bootloader/fastboot. I know its stupid, its my fault that I was tired and that I haven't really flash roms since mid 2011 on my sensation after settling on a virtuous rom.
Now my wifi doesn't work (haven't been playing with it much - could be many more things that don't work), but the main problem is that I found out adb doesn't work for my phone anymore when i tried to flash boot.img again. Sure, I can still use my phone as a external drive, but that's about it. Can't find my phone though 'adb devices' when the phone is switched on normally, in fastboot usb, and in recovery. However, I can still sideload a .zip file in recovery. that works.
In fastboot, I get 'This device cannot start. (Code 10) - A request for the USB BOS descriptor failed.' I've tried downloading the newest drivers from htc, updated my sdks, installed/uninstalled htc sync manager - which always came up with 'unable to sync with device that is locked, please unlock device' or something like that even though my device's screen was unlocked.
You probably figured out that I'm not that advanced with technology as some of you peeps out there.
What do you think I should be doing now?
I feel like I have half a phone working. :crying:
Cheers,
Reece
Which variant do u have ... X920d or e ??
Also it might be best to return to stock first and ten start over again ... Also provide the hboot version from the boot loader screen
I have the x920d,
here's the info.
Hboot - 1.39.0000
Radio 3A.21.306.10
s-on.
What do you mean by return to stock, as in relocking my phone etc... but how? I can't even use adb. I can't really flash roms properly either.
Anyone...??
Try the ADB on another computer, it should work.
I'm still getting no luck with adb on another computer.
What else can i do?
I can even use adb .
Hope that help.

Note: That guy did with x920e ROM but I think the process should be same, good luck.
Sorry that i took a while to reply.
I just tried going into recovery and wiping everything as per the link,
i can't seem to wipe cache and system. weird. that's what i get for trying to format system or cache
'Formatting /system(or cache)...
E: format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p32
Error formatting /system(or cache)!'
I can now flash boot.img, but somehow that won't mean anything until I can wipe my phone.
Can I try wiping it in bootloader?
Okay. Here's the deal.
My friend gave me a used HTC One S. My idea was to flash a new custom ROM on it (preferably something like CM12). He told me it was rooted, so it seemed like it was no problem. Although, it was S-On.
When I turned out on the phone, I first noticed some things. It stayed on the "HTC: Quietly Brilliant" logo, however, it had that red "This build is for development purposes only" text underneath it. After waiting almost an hour, I realized something was up. After a few attempts, I was able to get into bootloader and loaded up TWRP recovery. I poked around in the files to see what the issue could be, when I realized something. The phone was Romless! The /sdcard folder was completely empty, besides a TWRP folder. If I moved up one level, the only folders were:
and-sec
boot
cache
data
dev
devlog
etc
sdcard
license
proc
recovery
res
root
sbin
supersu
sys
system
tmp
usb-otg
and they were all empty.
Okay, so it didn't have a ROM. No big deal, right?
My first idea was to use the CM12 installer. It didn't work; for some reason it thought the device was a Samsung galaxy S2?!
So my next idea was to connect it to my pc and transfer files. Unfortunately, since it was in TWRP, it wouldn't show up on my PC so I could edit the files. So, first I tried mounting storage, but it failed, saying "E: Can't mount /sdcard". So, my next idea was to use USB OTG. After putting the CM12 file on my flash drive and connecting it to the phone, it showed up and I was able to browse the files to install CM12. On my first try, I flashed it straight from the flash drive and rebooted. When this happened, it was on the HTC logo for a good minute, then it rebooted again straight into TWRP. After that, I decided that maybe I'd have to create folders inside /sdcard. So, after a few minutes, I created the empty folders Android, Download, DCIM, Pictures, etc. in /sdcard. I copied CM12 into download and flashed it. Instant failure, giving the same "Can't mount scard" errors.
I tried rebooting. But when I did, all the folders I made as well as CM12.zip were gone!
I also tried using adb push and sideload commands. It still did not work. Still got sd card mounting errors.
Interesting. With that, I turned to XDA for help. After reading a few forums, I downloaded Hasson's All-In-One-Toolkit and tried reinstalling TWRP recovery. No luck. After that, I switched the recovery to PhilZ Touch 5. Still, once again, got internal sd errors for mounting.
Not knowing what else to do, I settled on one other option. RUU. After doing some searching online and finding the right RUU, which was RUU_Ville_U_JB_45_S_TMOUS_3.14.531.11_Radio_1.13.50.05.31_10.30.50.08L_release_309489_signed_ICS_2 .exe.
I followed instructions online about RUU and looked for a temp file. While I expecting only one ROM.zip, there were two files called rom_01.zip and rom_02.zip. They both had the same files with the same file names in them, the only difference was rom_01. zip was 35 Mb, while rom_02 was 681 mb. I tried both. They'd give me the same "please flush again immediately" the first time, but after flashing again, every time it would give me "signature verify fail."
With that, I am unsure what else to do. The only thing on the phone at the moment is PhilZ touch 5. Mounting storage does not work, and installing via sideload doesn't either. Any help with this situation is very, very appreciated.
I apologize for how long this post was.

In order to see anything on system in TWRP, you should have mounted it before (go to Mount and check system). But that's not the point.
You didn't say anything about which One S do you have (S4/Ville or S3/Ville C2),which version of TWRP you have and most important which hboot you're on.
For most ROMs you'll need 2.15 hboot, also because you're S-On you must flash kernel in fastboot after you flash the ROM. You flashed CM12 so I presume you have 2.15 hboot but you never said you flashed also the kernel in fastboot mode. That's why phone don't boot

The phone is S4/Ville.
It's on 2.15 hboot as well.
The TWRP version it had was 2.5.0.0.
