Any way to get Google Play to update Amazon apps? - General Questions and Answers

Last May, I purchased Backcountry Navigator Pro from the Amazon App Store. It hadn't seen much use until recently when I started spending a lot of time on the hiking trails.
I was interested in checking out one of their premium addons (in-app purchase) but it kept giving me errors about premium addons not being available in my market. I shot an email off to the developer, who noticed that I was on version 5.0.3 and instructed me to update to the newest (5.7.4) via google play. Problem is, Google Play - while showing that app installed on my phone - doesn't keep it up to date. My assumption is because it came from Amazon. So, I contacted the developer again and explained the situation. I was told that they had pulled that app from Amazon about 7 months back (shortly after I had purchased it). I was told to contact Amazon and request a refund so that I could re-purchase the app on Google Play.
So, I contact Amazon help desk. I explain the situation to them. They respond that there is nothing they can do, and instruct me to contact the developer.
So here I am, sitting on a $14.00 paid app that I can't actually use, a developer that is either unwilling or unable to help, a google play that won't update an app if it wasnt purchased through them, and amazon unwilling to refund me.
My question is simple... does anyone here know of another way to get this app updated without shelling out another $14 for it?
Side note - Lesson learned. Don't offer support to 3rd party app stores. It'll bite you in the ass.

Amazon App Store Vs Android Market

Hey guys, I've heard a lot about this Amazon App Store, but I don't seem to really understand its purpose. There's already Android Market, which has all the apps available, why would there be another app store, with less apps? And another thing that I can't think of, is why did Google allow Amazon to have this app store? Aren't they losing money with it? The more they sell through the Android Market, more money they make!
Who cares what the purpose is; they give you free PREMIUM apps!!

Yea they have have a few decent apps for free and coupld were kinda pricy
shifty root
imapaler's battery mod
adw
mikshift
bcnice kernal
htc ime mod by gimpsta
Thing is it is not available in my Coun, that's why I don't get its purpose.
How does Google allow such thing?
And do the Apps that I get through Amazon incorporate in my Androird Makert (allowing me to download them like apps I have bought there or not?)
I truly believe Google cares very little about app sale residuals in the long run. They care more about ensuring that there is an abundance of ways to make Android more accessible to more people.
Having a competing, authorized app store underwritten by a successful online merchant is a good move, I think.
In the end, it all boils to advertising dollars for Google.

Amazon App Store. Great for the end users, absolutely terrible for the small developer.
I've had bad experiences with the Amazon Marketplace and refuse to use it now. They rejected one of my apps because it is not compatible with 3 specific manufacturers (HTC, Samsung, or Droid [I assume they mean Motorola]), The one app they DID accept took well over 2 weeks to be accepted, download details are STILL not available (been 13 days since it was accepted) and they take the same cut as the Google Marketplace whilst also charging you $100 a year.
I don't see the point tbh

What makes you think that Google has any authority to stop it?
Did you not hear the guy above, free premium apps. i just got zenonia 2 free today, and andry birds was free a few days ago. i mean the android market is good and all but i think amazon is much better. Also i like the layout of amazon better, i think its more user friendly. I mean the current version of android market is ok, but its a big waste of space.
When you buy something through Amazon, does it get linked to your Google account, allowing you to acess it from the Android Market?

No, it is separate. If you bought it from Amazon, it won't show as bought in the Android Marketplace. I wish that would change, to at least recognize it is installed.

No. It gets linked to your Amazon account, allowing you to access it from the Amazon Appstore.
Well, as a user out of the US, it's pretty much rules a huge majority out. I tried using it with a fake account to try out the free premium app
http://abtevrythng.blogspot.com/2011/03/how-to-use-amazon-app-store-outside-us.html#axzz1HtVzxyUa
But the premium apps stopped working after a day. So I dropped it all together
I decided to give a shot this morning to see the feasibility of switching from Google Android Market to Amazon AppStore as I like the idea of a more independent app store. I first discovered (not surprisingly) that the Google apps aren't there neither are a lot of other popular applications I have been using. In addition I was surprised to see the number of applications which have older versions in Amazon Appstore. Google Market kept giving notifications of upgrades available for applications installed from Amazon. It's unfortunate they are lagging behind but I bet it picks up in the future.
I wouldn't switch. It's not a replacement, but rather it's complimentary. Maybe you'd use both, but I wouldn't use one or the other exclusively (at least not Amazon's). I like the layout of the Amazon app store better, and the free premium apps are great. Having the links on my Amazon account and able to be sent to any device is great, of course (though that's similar to the Google marketplace)! The biggest deal breaker for me is that it doesn't have smooth app updating like the Google marketplace does, so if you have a ton of apps like I do on my tablet, you have to authorize the permissions again on every single update being installed.

Amazon appstore apps in the uk?

Hope can I download these please? Is there a way around not being in the US?
Thanks

Don't think so.. i want swiftkey x for free though.. damn US -.-
Hope that it'll come to Germany soon aswell... Anyway it's not that costumer friendly policy Amazon should go towards...
I think it's similar to the AmAzon mp3 service, they allow free storage of music on the cloud over there, but here in the uk, you don't get that priillage and although you may be able to manually install the amazon app store, it's impossible to install apps due to the country limitations coming from your amazon account believe, as I have tried myself and it won't work, maybe searching google for the app's .apk file name may get what you want by other means.
For now the store is only open in US..
As far as I understand they have plans to open the store in other countries too..
We just have to wait
I believe there is a workaround for this, unfortunately the forum where I read about it is currently down. I'll look into it.
I remember trying to get Angry Birds Rio when the appstore had judt opened. I was so sad when I realised it was US only. It then came out on Android marketplace and then I was filled with joy!

[Q] Recover ROM Manager Premium licence!

Hi XDA!
Was hoping someone can help me with my current issue!
So in May 2011, I purchased ROM Manager premium licence with an in-app purchase I believe. I have the Google checkout receipt for it and it says it is a 'digital delivery' so I think that's how I bought it
Since then I've upgraded my phone and now I cannot recover the premium licence anymore. The ROM Manager Premium app on the Play Store says I'd have to pay for it (which is expected since I technically didn't buy that app), and I've tried to contact the developer for help but they don't appear to be answering my inquiries
Anyone have any idea what I can do to recover the licence? Would be great not to have to pay $5.99 for it again, or am I just plain out of luck?
Thanks for any help in advance!
I am having the same issue. I bought the app a couple of years ago and was just browsing through my Google Wallet purchases and was reminded of my purchase when I saw my history. I remembered that I made the purchase through the Rom Manager app itself and not directly from the Google Play Store.
I will probably send them an email, with a screenshot tomorrow.

Picasa Folio

Google is starting to p*** me off more and more lately.
I use or should I say used to use an app called #Picasafolio to manage my #Picasa photos. It's a paid app but the best at what it does and is reasonably priced.
The dev has always been really responsive and usually has a resolution to any issues the same day. I was having some problems relating to the 4.4 update and downloading folders. Emailed the dev who chased down the issue and pushed an update to the play store. Updated last night but didn't try it till this morning. Had an issue where I couldn't login so contacted the dev who responded promptly with the following email:
'This is because Google has terminated the app for apparent violations of copyright. I've appealed but this looks like the end of my business.
Thanks,
Brian'
Checked the play store and sure enough a search reveals nothing. No explanation as to why the app is no longer there, nothing.
I feel angry on behalf of Brian who is a dedicated developer for the android market, no notice, no attempt to resolve the situation, just the app removed from the play store and an email.
I'm one of the lucky ones who are aware of what's happened but what about everyone else who purchased the app? This app has been in the store for a long time so the decision to pull it now seems ridiculous.
Surely as Google Play being a middleman then they have some responsibility to the buyer. After all if I purchased something on Amazon which later didn't work etc I could contact Amazon for a resolution.
There are still plenty of apps on the Play Store which perform similar functions so why remove this one.
I've purchased plenty of apps via the playstore but from now on unless I can get them through Amazon I will have to look for alternatives. I'm not spending money on something just for Google to decide they no longer like it or it no longer fits in the terms and conditions.
Still bloody annoyed with Goggle!!!!!

Yep. I have multiple devices with PIC backup so having something like this is essential to manage the auto backup folder. Since Google has blocked the OAuth the app is now useless.
Well suck me sideways..
This explains why I can't find it in Play store from my tablet..

Anybody know how to raise a complaint with Google about this?

Some good news! ?
I have republished the app on Google Play at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.snapwood.pfolio, addressing the most likely reason for the ban (app name). I have no assurance that Google won't ban this app as well, but as the rest of the app had been stable for at least a year, the app name was the likely reason.
I was able update the app on Amazon, so users there will be receiving an app update to fix the login issue once Amazon approves it.
For Google Play users that want to continue to receive updates or want to avoid the login workaround, please purchase the new app and send me the email address used to purchase the original app. I'll refund that prior order so everything comes out even in the end. I apologize for this mess.
Thanks,
Brian

About that free 6 month youtube premium

I pre ordered pixel 3 a couple of days ago. I live in korea so i asked my friend to send it to me when he got delivered. Anyway, i saw the terms yesterday and the terms were weird. You can have the 6 month trial only when you are completely new to youtube premium. And also only for US residents.
So here's the questions
Is there really no way to get the youtube premium unless making new account? (Im currently using youtube premium)
Will the youtube premium 6 month trial won't work if i start the pixel in korea?
Im going to LA in January so if i wait until january, would it be possible to claim 6 month trial?
Sorry for the bad english though...

It is my understanding that you will need a new account to activate your 6 month trial. As for your activation, you will probably need to activate it from the US since I will also guess that Google has a way to tell where the IP that activated it came from and I think that if it doesn't originate in the US, they may use that as an excuse to not honor it. I'm not sure if the activation has to happen from the same email account where it was purchased through the Google store. Also, in January it will be too late to activate the trial since, from what I've read, it has to be activated before December 31 at 11:59 PM. Hope this helps. Maybe your friend can activate it for you before sending it.
This is bogus if true. I had a free month trial of YouTube music before, so now I don't get the free 6-months? Google is getting so damn nitpicky about all of their offers. They need to relax a bit and reward long-time customers. I'm not creating a new Google account to get 6 months of their crappy music service. Maybe if they had a cleaner merge with Google Play Music I'd be willing to pay for it.
