[Q] How can I see what camera my phone has? - Android General

Hello
How can I see what camera my phone has?
I mean not camera specs but what camera my phone has like if it is a Sony Camera Lens or a Samsung
For example I know my Moto G 2014 has a Samsung branded RAM installed on it.

You can't see that, even if you pulled out the camera hardware. Some manufacturer print their name/logo on that but not every.
Major manufacturers include Toshiba, Sharp , Nokia,
Sanyo , Samsung , Motorola , Siemens , Sony Mobile, LG Electronics, ST Micro, Sharp , Omnivision, and Aptina (Now
part of ON Semiconductor ).
-If you want to see other hardware information of your phone try 'hardware info' app from play store.
Hope this would be somewhat helpful for you.

You might be able to find the camera specifications in the System in hardware/software information or on the manual of the phone.

Yes we can see camera specification on manual but there isn't written hardware manufacturers name like he said about RAM.

Omnia vs. Xperia

I am going to get either the Xperia or the Omnia, the only question is which. I would like opinions from others please.
Thanks in advance.
Personally I'd choose Touch Pro.
it really depend on if you want a keyboard or not as on xperia got one
and higher screen res but lower mpixel cam
but some rumors say that xperia may not get released untill feb 2009
FYI...here's the so called official omnia thread for info:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=400313
Thanks for the info galaxys
the camera - Samsung cameras (on phones) are never as good as Sony Ericsson or even LG. Even the G800 with it's so-called 'optical zoom' is rubbish.
Last Christmas I had a LG Viewty, Sony Ericsson K850i and Samsung G800. The K850i camera was much better, even better than the N95 camera.
And yes, I know how to use a camera, and what exposure and focus to use.
The 16 gb version of the Omnia is only being released in the US.
xperia hands down

But Xperia will be produced by HTC. Then we do not know if it will have a great Sony Ericsson's CCD matrix or poor HTC's CMOS matrix. There is no point in this discussion until we see any pictures taken by it.
hm?

What ? Which source mention this ? How do you know that Xperia will be under HTC development? Did SE joined forces with HTC on Xperia platform ?
Check this out about camera and picture quality among these phones : http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=289
Xperia will be availiable in Sweden since mid of October.
I vote for the HD definetly!
the 16 gig omnia was on orange but im not sure if it still is
i have it
the camera is **** hot
Sony the one and only...
when my Uni dies,(not any time soon) i will probably look at the X1 as long as Sony supports this phone it should be pretty good. I'm not a fan of sliders but I have to have a key board the TV out is also a cool feature and who knows maybe a mini Blue-Ray recorder, lol,. Dual expansion slots would've helped since I have a bunch of Memory-sticks collecting dust
i have both omnia n xperia and i must say,omnia kick xperia's ass big time...why u ask?? here's why...
*note:comparison are based on out of box experience.
1)accelerometer based applications + games rules,
2)camera rules,camera features like face detection,smile detection,mutiple scenery mode,lanscape mode,business card scanner,5mp still can zoom in(xperia 3mp but cannot zoom,only can zoom at 2mp settings & below)
3)samsung provide on going official firmware update
4)"end user" provide on going custom firmware update
5)omnia code like *#0002*28346# allow volume cuztomisation. So far there's no such code for xperia volume hack yet.but i could be wrong
6)built in 8gb or 16gb memory.(dun even need a micro sd card anymore)
7)omnia widget is far more useful compare to xperia panel(especially the stupid fish panel)
8)Taking pics with xperia is a pain!! camera shutter speed is too slow.really need a super steady hand to take decent pics or else pics will blurr!!
well, these are my personal experience with both phones.....cheers...sorry for bad english.. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
thx al3xband for the comments.. I still struggling between xperia and omnia. Prefer Xperia coz it is from SE, have keyboard but the price too exp. Now wonder if I shall get a white color Omnia from Singtelshop...

[Q] I thinking of switching to WP7

I am thinking of moving from android to windows phone 7 and I have a few questions.
1)Is the gMap app available in Ireland and UK and can it do local search and navigate to it? Now I don't need turn by turn just a line that you can follow on a map and can track your movement
2) Which out the following devices you would think is best and why:- HTC Trophy, HTC Mozart, HTC 7 Pro or Lg Optimus 7
3) Can mango been install on these devices now unofficially or do I have to wait for official release.
4) Where would I find 3rd party apps?
Thanks in advance

1) gMap is apparently based on Google so it supports those countries I think. But it's really poor compared to Google Maps.
2) All of them are quite robust and reliable. I have Optimus 7 which has a great quality BUT after 7 months part of the screen became greyish - visible only on white. I guess LG is not the quality master...... Also Optimus has hardware keys.
All of the phones have good cameras in daylight and quite ****ty in dark, a WP7 trademark....
3) Yes you can have Mango now, many users have it here.
4) Marketplace
u won't regret the switch one bit to wp7
1) it should work and I think Bing works there as well.
2) I would go with a phone by HTC, I have the arrive (7 pro) and I love it.
3) yes the mango beta is released here and on just about any other forum site.
4) u can get then from the marketplace and if ur developer unlocked ($9 US) u can sideload apps.
ignore the ****ty picture quality being a wp7 trademark remark. I've seen poor quality from all OSes and my arrive takes good outdoor pictures

I think the picture quality is quite great. It might not compare very well to dedicated 10+ MP cameras, but these are phones, not dedicated cameras.
I can only say that the htc hd7 is the Best phone i have ever had in my life i Love this phone and Windows phone os too, every Person who Sees my phone Want to have it

I know what you mean. I had an HD7 for a while until I moved to AT&T...before they get their HD7. I loved mine. A gorgeous phone and felt so good.
Thanks for the reply's.
I use google maps alot and from another forum I know that bing maps are not fully updated for some new roads (built 2-3 years ago) and has very few POI's for Ireland. This could be a deal breaker for me. Is nokia maps coming soon to WP7?

I was thinking of getting this phone. I can get this sim free for €275 ($400).
What is battery life like? Does screen move about when touching the screen when the keyboard is closed?

The quality of a camera in low light is directly related to the size of the lens, ANY camera with a lens the size of a sesame seed will suffer in low light situations. This is not specific to WP7.
I live in Sweden and Bing Maps isn't even supposed to work at all. But im navigating fine with it. For driving it updates to slow to be any good. So i installed a pay navigation app named Turn By Turn and it is just great.
Also, there are some Google apps in Marketplace that could replace Bing, but Bing is intergrated and have so far worked flawless.
All other questions everybody answerd. I my self use Omnia 7 16GB and very happy with it. Dont know about the other phones, but LG Optimus 7 have only one flaw, and it's the screen. The LG phone it aelf is great, but the screen is horrible compared to any phones out there. Here in Sweden you can buy a new LG, unlocked/carrier free for 1900 SEK. Should be around 200$ That's very cheep for a smartphone of this magnetude. But i wouldn't pay more ether because of the bad screen, wich is sad because native apps and other hardware parts is good.
Hope i didn't offend any LG users, its my and some close friends observations. 1 still bought it but everytime he looks at other screens he gets sad.
If you dont like SAMOLED like me, go for a HTC device. Seems also to be supporting there WP great.
Time have passed, so i wonder if not Dell Venue Pro could make for a good chooise. Thats the phone i wanted initally. But Venue Pro, Focus and Omnia 7 are SAMOLED / AMOLED devices.

While the things you both say are true, I wouldn't call the image quality I get from my Focus, even in brightly lit scenarios, to be anywhere close to good. It might be OK for resizing down images to post on Facebook, or for viewing on your phone, but for anything else the quality is almost useless. The images are excessively noisy and overly compressed, with almost no dynamic range at all. Even trying to manually adjust the settings to compensate makes virtually no difference. I've looked at quite a few full size photos taken with some of the "competition", and the difference is almost night and day.
I have high hopes for the cameras in the new Nokia phones, given the quality of glass they will be using, but that is only one factor. The physical sensor needs to be up to the task, as does the image processor that reads the raw values from it.
Obviously, it is silly to make broad generalizations like the "WP7 trademark" comment about camera quality, but what I can say for certain is that the quality in the Focus is far below what it could be, even for a phone camera.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Camera Sensor ...

Hello All ...
I just got my Samsung S7 Edge (G935F) and to my utmost surprise I have got Samsung's own BRITECELL(or whatever they call it) Camera Sensor instead of beloved Sony Sensor ... The same they opted with S6 n S6 Edge and the Sony Sensor pictures were way better than Samsung's ISOCELL Camera Sensor ...
That's pretty strange ... I haven't checked or compared the quality of the photos with the one with Sony Sensor ...
But I'm disappointed ... Sheer Shame .... Samsung does this every time ...
Please share your information here what you people have got ...

That's what Samsung does ... I mean every year ... They give two different sensors in a flagship product costing over 800$ ... And let the users compare them ...
Last year in S6, people posted photos taken from Sony Sensor Camera and Samsung's own ISOCELL Camera and Sony proved to be superior in much of them ...
And I'm expecting the same this year ...
Probably would return my device because of this very reason as the same happened last year with me ...
I mean you can't except it that your Camera has a cheaper Sensor than your friend's fone having same price and specs ...
That's baddddddd Sammy ... leave these tactics please ...

I'm really shocked that AIDA64 shows both camera modules as not having video stabilization. The Sony sensor on my S6 Edge shows support for video stabilization according to AIDA64.
I got mine yesterday UK phone it's the Sony camera I have
But noticed aida64 shows only 3.5gb ram......
Carphonewarehouse also in black

See it's business. It's not just camera sensor, it's also about RAM, NAND etc., Apple does same, this is done to have enough inventory during high sale period. Most times it's because they can't get enough components of one type. Apple infact goes as far as getting display and SOC from different foundry. Not for first time it happened, and as the nature of business it will continue in future as well.
Note: Samsung never promised we will get IMX260 sensor. As long as both sensors similar job, I see no reason to be concerned about. Would you have complained if it was only Samsung sensor?

Some amount of RAM is always reserved for GPU, also applies for your laptop.
F*** Samsung sensor here as well. What the f samsung? Thinking about switching to a different model now. Mine's made in Vietnam.
EDIT: Found this comparison by Gsmarena - http://blog.gsmarena.com/samples-comparison-galaxy-s6-s6-edge-sony-samsung-camera-sensors-2/ and in that comparison the ISOCELL sensor pictures look a bit better. Are there any more comparisons available? Just asked my friend if he could check his S7, and if it turns out he got a Sony sensor I'll do a comparison between the two.
EDIT: My fried just replied and his phone is equipped with the IMX260 so I'll post some pics when I have a chance to do a comparison!
Mine appears to be Sony. I have a G935F (Exynos in the UK). Purchased from Carphone Warehouse
Why some people say Sony sensor is better, and some say ISOCELL wins?
I'm not very surprised with my ISOCELL sensor, to be honest.
My wife's appears to be ISOCELL. Hers is also G935F (Exynos in the UK) but came directly from EE.
I got a black 935f from carphonewarehouse in UK.
Has Sony sensor in mine.

Is it possible to add super night camera mode from Huawei to Galaxy s7?

I love this mode from my Huawei ascend mate 7, i could take pictures of the stars.
With the new and approved Galaxy S7 camera, i would like this mode added.
With a mod or other method.
Yes, that would interest me.
If someone can port the Huawei camera app to the S7, maybe it'll work, but that's about the only way.
Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk
I'm sure it can be done. The S7's camera has fantastic low light capabilities, so to be able to port over a software setting to optimize night pics like that should be doable. Samsung will probably update their stock camera software to include that ability soon. With the developments of HTC, Sony, Samsung, and LG (Ibelieve the G5 will be the device to watch this year. With their modular camera accessories, they can continue to improve the hardware with the same device. It's a brilliant concept), I expect smartphone camera technology to be able to take perfectly professional pictures in the very near future

That is bullocks.. The camera stays the same.. And the camera on the G5 isnt that special. They can only improve Software not the hardware....
You can easily take a photo of the stars by tinkering on the pro mode.
Simply look at the lowest ISO and decreasing the shutter speed. You will need to stablise your phone of course.

So people are gullible enough to believe LG can add sth else apart from batteries with their module? The only other possibility is a lens attachment which won't change much. The G5 isn't that modular in the real sense of the word. The camera won't change.
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
In pro mode select aperture settings and select 10, this sets the exposure to 10 seconds, with this you can achieve amazing photos of the sky and and milky way, very impressive for a phone.
Why you need that app for that?
Already available on the S7 in Pro Mode.

Why Sony handicap their hardware?

As the title says........
As a long time Sony fan, (owned Z2, Z3, Z5 and now XZP) I have always loved the design and Sony's initial "lead ahead" design, i.e IP68 rating, stereo speakers, epic camera hardware, big battery) etc.
Now having owned pretty much gen after gen Sony, I've always been disappointed in the fact that their Hardware have been full proof and cutting edge, but their software implementations have been woeful to say the least.
It's a known fact that must other Android and IOS brand phones use Sony Camera Modules, yet they have always had better low light and the odd day light camera performance.
Also their Speakers. For a phone with Dual front firing speakers, the software implementations again have been [email protected]*, resorting to "knowledgeable" users having to download and mod their phones to actually utilize the phones full potential.
Anyone else disappointed with some of Sony's software limitations?
sorry for the rant.
