[Q] facebook messenger notification sound - General Questions and Answers

Hi everyone,
I recently discovered that with the new update of Facebook messenger we can't choose what notification sound we want even if we put a .mp3 in notification directory (in general /sdcard/notification )
But I'm pretty sure that if we found where are located the new sounds of Facebook messenger, we could do a copy/paste of an .mp3 and Facebook messenger will give us the possibility to choose the .mp3 we just copy.
But I search for hours and didn't find anything...
I extracted the contents of .apk of Facebook messenger and found the exact name of different .m4a, and one of them is named baby_giggle.m4a
So I did I search with es file explorer (with root access) and it didn't find anything...
So I don't know what to do now, please some help
Thank you

Interested to know if there is a fix to this as well.

anyone find a way to change the notification sound on fb messenger ? this is also driving me nuts !

I found a facebook pop sound but the one I hear is similar to a ringing phone but a very quick ring. I also looked in system/app and data/app and found nothing at all. It has to be hiding somewhere in the file system

Anyone find a way?

I'm also trying to figure this out. All the sounds are built into the apk and I don't know how to add to those. The only system notification now allowed is the default one.

I'll have to look on my S3 and see if it's somewhere in the system settings or similar. I can't find it on my Nexus 5 for some odd reason

The sounds that messenger have to choose from are not in a separate folder somewhere. They are zipped up inside the apk at this location.
/data/app/com.facebook.orca-1/base.apk/res/raw
Edit: I just assumed it's using them from that location, but maybe that's not how it works.

That's odd. The only way to change it then would to be to change the contents in the apk file if that's even an option

Yeah. I'm far from a programmer so I can't say but that is the only place I've been able to find the files.

There's a play store app that is from Facebook that let's you change it to certain sounds. I'm not sure there's any other options at this point

looked at that app, really not seeing any way to let it change the default sound notifications from fb messenger . this just lets you send pre recorded sound clips to users , nothing to do with changing sounds.

im still not seeing anyway to browse for a sound file in the fb messenger app , only in facebook at itself.

You shouldn't have to browse for it. Just put the sound file in the Android Notifications folder and it should show up in the list to pick from within the FB messenger.

The file for sounds is built into the apk messenger file. There is no folder for it. It's been discussed in this thread previously

whatsapp hack?

I was wondering if there's a way to view whatsapp messages from another app?
I don't want to be visible online, and the apps on market for this are really poor. Any tips?

There is an app called "Whatsapp Toolbox" that lets you see messages on whatsapp without going online or without changing your last seen.
But you need root for this app to work. This app is available on the play store and it works fine.

Gmail update

Who likes/dislikes the gmail update?
I'm running the 4.5 update and it looks real nice. Contact images show up on the emails.

Are you talking about the 4.5 Version? It seems a little "kid-ish" to me. Especially when I am not receiving emails from other gmail users. All I see are random colored blocks with the first letter of everyone's name before the email.
I am not sure if there are more tweaks/features.. but so far I'm not impressed.

Yea the blocks for the highlighted letter of the email is kind of stupid. I do however like the option to finally empty the trash
Sent from my ThunderBolt, soon to be S3
Don't like the blocks.
Don't like when you change archive and delete options to show archive and delete it changes the swipe setting to archive) I was using it for delete.
+1 on being able to empty trash.
im not impressed with it either. its harder to delete email for one, and still no option to delete individual emails instead of the whole "conversation". At least online, there is a setting to turn conversation view on or off. That needs to be in the app as well. and i agree that the colored blocks need to change. the contact pics are ok, but colors aren't. you can shut that off though in the settings....
You can remove the blocks and pics of other users if you wish. There is an option under settings. Since I removed the blocks..... I love it!

This is my pov too
I use aquamail instead of gmail. It's a lot more customizable and the IMAP push works perfectly with gmail account.

Yeah, I dislike that as well. Have to long-press then get the delete option.
I quit using Gmail for my work mail because of the inability to delete individual messages. If someone responds ”thanks”, I have no interest in keeping those !

I agree, I delete them on the web version too, to keep it clean. But yet they still show up on the app...Lol...go figure
I use K9 which doesn't do conversation mode by default.

I don't like the new look. I'm glad I can hide those stupid colored boxes, but the emails are still too big when scrolling through them.
I kind of like the boxes. It gives me an ideal of who's calling.

True. Then again, I hardly ever use my s3 for actual phone calls.

Alternate SMS application

I'm looking for an alternate SMS app that is almost the same as the stock app but allows me to attach an APK file.
A lot of apps I get my fiance wants and it would make it easier to be able to grab the file from a file manager inline rather than having to open ROM toolbox and send it from there.

You can share any app you want from play store directly from the share button in play store and text it to her
Sendt fra min HTC One med Tapatalk2
Umm you can't attach files to text messages I'm prey sure, so no app will be able to do this (if im right). UNLESS the app also has its own messaging service on the side that can attach files, but then that would defeat the purpose because whoever you trying to text will have to have a smart phone, (they might even have to have android if the developer doesn't support other mobile smart systems like iOS or Windows Phone), because having a smartphone is the only way to get this made up app that doesn't even exist.

Just use a file browser and send it to her using gmail... it let's you attach apks

But since you said she wants the same apps, I'm assuming your both using android. So in that case I recommend an app called App Info XT because it has Holo Design, and can send apk directly from the app without the need of another file manager. But you will have to email it to her, since she has android she probably has gmail account. App Info XT can attach the apk to an email client directly, also, so thus is probably your best bet.

I've got the Calendar notification here:

I can't seem to find the Hangouts notification sound on my phone, yet I know I've got it..........I'll keep looking around for it, push comes to shove you might simply try searching the Google for Hangouts.ogg or something like that, see what comes up.
