Camera app button isn't on the edge screen after update to lollipop . Why? Anyone has that problem?
See attached screen capture. Srry for my english.
It's not a problem...it's changed in lollipop
Yeah. They changed it, fo r some really stupid reason. Morons.
But I see some reviews on youtube, and it's on the right place. On lollipop. They has another variant of Lollipop? Maybe will come an update.
It's possible to install camera app from KitKat? With root...
See the video on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_dR-5ZKC2E

Why on that review from Sammobile, the camera app has the shotter button on the edge screen?
The camera button on the edge was only in the leak version of Lollipop. In the official build of Lollipop they decided to put it back on the main screen.
This is a stupid change.
I dont think it was a completely dumb move as some people and reviewers strongly expressed that they hated having the button on the edge. I myself quite liked the placement of the buttons on the edge. I think the right move would've been to give us both options and let us choose where we want the button
I totally agree with tospace2006, they should give us an option, where we want to have the button. I prefer the button also in the edge.
I do not want them wrong, samsung offering us the top we can have in high end, but I think, that the option where we want to have the button is highly unlikely to be implemented in the next update.
Their main focus is now on the S6/S6 Edge now..
Anyway I like the button in edge, because then we have on the screen more space to see the scene we want to shoot. I think digital cameras should have hardware button also in the screen
This is probably only up to us, I've saw already edge camera wit edited compression values and time recording here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/themes-apps/app-mod-camera-quality-mod-time-limit-t2961363 we should give them proporsal to make lolipop camera with edge screen

Is there? Since I don't use video calling can it be used to take pictures?
ok nevermind I found the option.
Bro, please share..........
when you go into the camera app tap the screen to show the options, tap the gear wheel in the bottom right corner and in the menu that pops up tap the icon in the bottom left
Why
Ok, maybe you do not have a mirror at you but... why to take a lo quality pictures?? You can use the rear cam to take 3.2 mp, not vga...
yea but since I don't use the camera for video calling I can at least use it to look at myself
no icon for me in bottom left
so weird but i dont have an icon in the botom left its blank lol, i wonder if its the elite rom im using or something else? anyone have an idea mabey?

I agree . I use it also for that purpose when there is no mirror near. Last time I used it to see the blood all over my face when I hit my head to a traffic signs edge due to a lack of visibility caused by a way too big hood

perhaps you have bigger issues to deal with than tweaking your PDA.
Just installed Synergy JB and have noticed that there is one finger zoom in here where you basically slide up and down on the edge of the screen and it zooms in and out. I see people with the note II have this also so it seems it may be a Touchwiz JB feature but I haven't seen a way to turn it off. It's nice but would love to find a way to toggle it. I already checked display, accessibility, and motion controls with no luck and it zooms in any app that can zoom.
If I remember correctly E actually put the GNOTE 2 camera in that ROM so what you are seeing is that actually camera... As far as I know the only way to change that would be to flash a different camera.... HOWEVER.. I do have the NOTE 2 camera on mine also and can pinch to zoom or use the volume keys so there may be different versions of that also... But anyways flash a different camera and that should do the trick

Well its not just the camera it's in the browser, wikipedia app, and others
I apologize.. I swear the post said in the camera app.... I know he pulled a few .APK's from the Note 2... All I can suggest is check the settings for the individual apps... You could also try and download a different browser and try that... That would help narrow it down if it is something "Overseeing" the ROM or something specific to certain .APK's....

With all due respect, you may want to look at your screen and take note of the fact there are no scroll bars.
I understand that we are creatures of habit, and as I have been using the GUI, with Scroll Bars since the first Mac (1984) I too tend to use the edge of the screen to scroll, but the truth is, it is a Phone, not a Mac, not a PC. It has no scroll bars. Scroll slightly to the left (or to the right-so to not disenfranchise left handed phone users) or 1/4 of the way across, or 1/3rd, or 1/2 or 3/4 quarters, etc. etc. etc.
Anywhere you'd like. It's a Phone, it's a touch screen. No mouse, no ability to tap in the scroll bar and have the screen advance. No way to position your mouse over the up or down arrow, and have the screen scroll smoothly without any other movement than you holding down the mouse button.
It's a Phone. Get it?
Anyway, what is really infuriating is that Samsung put this feature on the phone, didn't tell anyone, until people started complaining about it and reporting it as a bug, and then rather than either tell people about it, or add the ability through a Setting to disable it, in a new release of the software, the morons simply took it away.
So let me ask you, if your phone came configured with the setting disabled by default, but gave you the option to enable it, try it, see if you liked it, then said, nah, and turned it off, would that have been best for you and guys like me who depend on it all day every day to be able to use my Phone with one hand?
I think the answer is obvious.
Samsung, you are laughable, amateur software developers.
Thankfully we have XDA.
Now I just need one of you on here to figure out where in the heck it is hidden so you can make me a build that includes it with whatever else is in the latest releases.
You see, Android is almost entirely "Hard Coded" so it is not something the average user can just go "teeak" , like following the step by step instructions of someone to simply "Hack" the Windows Registry to make it the way we like it.
All the more reason Samsung is so pitiful.

If you have a Note Edge that's been updated to Lollipop, Samsung changed the camera app and moved the capture button to match most the other Android devices.....
I won't like the new camera app for this reason.
So there is no way to bring all camera controls on edge screen
I too dont like new camera app now...

Help please I have the same issue >> I need the camera control on Edge screen not in the main screen , can any body extract apk of the stock camera from kk ?
Edge Camera
Hi,
It's better to use voice command than switching to camera tap on main screen.
I also talked to Samsung customer service but those morons are acting like they have no clue what happened wrong.
Regarding selfies either prefer voice command or use your index finger on the sensor below the camera( at the back) , it will capture pics.
but the place of shutter control over Edge screen is much better ,, it is the reason why I bought galaxy note Edge

Edge Camera
We were using kitkat for nearly 4 months with the camera tap on edge screen and had no expectation that this will be removed in lollipop update.
So its like we all are facing the same issue but Samsung seems to act like an idiot by changing the edge screen functionality from camera app.
Have no clue to get it back other than downgrading to Kitkat.

Titanium?
my problem is customaising the forldes and downloading program data which will take 3 days of my time .. titanium not restoring these things
2 options that work for me
1. Samsung Smart Switch for PC. This has replaced Kies and copies your images and documents as well to their respective folders. It also copies the app apk. So after that you can just restore the app data from Titanium
2. For a full copy of the sd card, Unified Android Toolkit works pretty well. It's useful if you have very customised data folders.
folders of icons of my downloaded software in the app menu ,, no way to restore the order and content of folders which I made it
Restoring launcher data from titanium restores any folders and app order in both the home screen and app drawer

Just did a factory reset on 915G. Used Titanium and successfully restored all the folders and settings in app menu, launcher and edge bars in stock Touchwiz launcher as well as Nova. All icons, folder content, and order were correct. Just remember to do them last, after restoring all the apps.

What we need to do is open a law sue about it.
Im for real, the same thing happen with sony when they removed "other os"
So we need to together and complain.
They didnt give us any warning.
I remember i rooted a phone to to get rid of the ota update naggying screen. I didnt want to update.
But short of all that we cant change it.
I don't need the edge functionality of the phone and would just like to use that portion for whatever is on my screen instead. I experimented with Nova launcher and it removed the edge panel...but only part of it. The edge panel is gone but I still see a thin black bar all the way at the right side of the screen remaining. I want to completely use the entire screen of the phone. So is there a way to remove the black bar and maximize my screen real estate? I feel like maybe a custom rom would do that but I don't wanna go that far unless I know it achieves that.
I kinda had the same problem as you . The edge wasn't very important to me . Flashing a custom rom did help me in achieving that . The first rom I tried was RR by micky I it comes with a omni switch so ya can turn on/off the edge functionality . But if ya prefer to be on MM I would recommend noble rom it comes with an edge panel but is invisible for most of the time ; . I personally use n915f with noble rom and Micky's kernel . Hope this helps

Do you get the ENTIRE screen or is there a remaining thin black bar? Nova Launcher got rid of the edge panel and gave me more screen but I'm still left with a thin black bar on the side so I'm not utilizing my entire screen as I wanted. Can you show me a picture of your phone with either of those roms? I don't want to go through the headache of installing it only to find out its like Nova in the end result of a thin black bar leftover. And will those roms work on an at&t Note edge? Thanks for your response
Due to some unknown reasons am unable to upload a screenshot "network error". Could ya please check noble rom thread ( OP : Albe96) under the development section . He has uploaded some screenshots which will give you a better idea . The title says it works for only Fy&G versions but with the right kernel it worked fine for me on 915f . Am not sure if it works on at&t version of edge . Maybe you can post a question under the rom thread sure somebody will help you
Update : I don't have any black bars.

I meant pictures like an actual pic, not screenshot because I wanted to see if the black bar was visible. But its okay, I appreciate the info you provided. I'll take a look at that now but might not risk it because it doesn't sound like its compatible with the at&t Note Edge.

Do you know what the screen size is without the edge panel? Like say I'm using a web browser or some other app and the edge panel is gone now, how big is the display with the edge panel out? 5.4, 5.5 or 5.6 inches? And how big is everything total with the edge panel included?
dont think its possible ,its two separated screens ?
No it's definitely one screen.
I'm in the same situation. Couldn't get the Noble ROM working on my F device unfortunately. I uninstalled the Cocktailbar service to get rid of the edge panel (sped up the device quite a bit BTW). Nova wallpaper covers the entire screen now but the display of the icons gets trimmed off when scrolling.
A Note compatible application will show under an app that gets clipped short and if you window an application, you can drag it to cover the curved portion of the screen so on a system level, it is possible to utilise the entire screen.
There must be a configuration setting somewhere that defines the application rendering area. As a relative Android newbie, does anyone know where such a setting may be found?

Thanks for your response to my post. Even after all this time I'm still trying to get this phone to utilize the entire screen. I'm not sure how you uninstalled Cocktailbar service because I didn't get an option to do so. I have Nova launcher which did get rid of the edge panel but there's still a thin black line on the side of the phone. When the edge panel exists, it utilizes the entire screen but when I remove it by using Nova launcher, I lose the edge panel but I still can't maximize my screen usage because of the thin black bar left on the side. This is so frustrating.
if you dial the service mode , you can test both screen separately , main panel and edge panel , not sure if it one screen at all , thats why note edge is the only curve screen that works ?
I used Uninstall which you can get from the play store. Requires root access, really speeds up the phone when you remove it.
I found a hacky way to get the screen to extend nearly all the way to the edge by dropping the DPI of android system process to 50 and then overriding the DPI of everything else to the normal 640. System notifications are stupidly small and unusable though as well as any edge apps like the camera, see attached. Best option is to bite the bullet and get a Note 4 ROM working I think.
Weird I find the edge screen much more useful without the specialist software. Fast scrolling with a full screen is lovely on the edge bit.
Download and flash a AOSP Rom or Note 4 Rom and then I'd recommend Total Launcher
I'm using MRU Widget as my homescreens softkey row.

Yeah, eventually my tinkering made my phone go bang so I had to reflash. Bit of a pain but can't recommend it high enough. I went for the ROM below, a Note 7 adaption and it's awesome. Have to tinker a bit to get finger prints working but it's straight forward enough.

So I took delivery of my P20 Pro this afternoon. I'm reserving judgment on the camera but so far I'm pretty happy. There's one thing I'm completely flabbergasted by though
Huawei have replaced the stock 'double-tap power for camera' functionality with 'double-tap volume down'.
On the face of it this might not seem so bad, but it means a couple of things:
1 - you can't launch the camera quickly if you are actually using the phone. On other devices I would often be using an app when a photo opportunity arose, so with the Huawei I have to either go back to the home screen and click the camera app or press the power button and launch it from the lockscreen. This might not seem much but when a split second photo opportunity arises these couple of seconds can mean the difference between catching and missing a shot.
2 - you can't use the volume down method when you're playing anything. So if you're walking through the countryside playing your favourite album and suddenly a unicorn gallops past...again those couple of seconds mean you might miss the moment.
This might seem like nit picking but this is a *camera centric* phone. There's no advantage I can think of for the alternative camera shortcut method Huawei have adopted - the double-tapping power method serves no other conflicting purpose, and it's not even as if the volume down button is in a more convenient position.
I can't help but think this is a poorly conceived decision on Huawei's part - or worse still, change for change's sake.
I notice they've also turned the Oreo multimedia notifications into an exercise in excruciatingly unimaginative blandness - seemingly just to 'not be stock Androidy in any way'.
I'm not going to write off the phone as it seems like a nice bit of kit overall, but I really hope Huawei make some changes to the UI of this phone over its lifetime because I can't help but feel like some of their decisions (and they are very proactive decisions) are a little...shoddy.
You'll get used to it really quickly.
Also, it doesn't just open the camera, it takes a picture. Even tells you how quickly it has done it. I have found this really useful.. My kids sometimes do amusing things, but don't sit still for longer than a second,
It's impossible to get used to as I listen to podcasts and music on my phone all the time. How does it taking a picture make any difference anyway? Couldn't the same thing apply if they used the power button instead, or would that preclude this option?
Yeah there's literally no reason for them not to use the power button. It's just bad design all round.
It may be to keep functionality the same across all markets (IE too lazy) as it's a requirement in India that a triple press of the power button calls the emergency services. So they couldn't really leave in double press for camera in case of accidents.
Every other OEM destroys stock functions in one way or the other..
Did you try a button remapper app ?
Wouldn't it be easier to just press home and hit camera? Just saying. I've never used a quick launch and i've never missed a shot

How is that easier than double tapping the power button in literally any scenario - screen off, screen on, in an app, watching a video. If that scenario were just as easy then why would they (or anyone else) have a button shortcut at all?
The point is that no matter what I'm doing - whether the screen is off or not - I can double tap the power button and the phone vibrates and instantly opens the camera app, ready for a shot - so let's say I'm browsing Reddit sat on a park bench and a man dressed as Elvis runs past me pursued by a gaggle of geese - no problem - I won't miss that shot.
You might never have missed a shot and you might not use this feature but my point is not to force the feature on anyone - it's to ask why Huawei chose a worse methodology for quick launching the camera than the stock Android one - such as the one on my Nokia - and the one implemented by Samsung and LG (in their newest G7). The power button is not only separate from the volume buttons (and therefore easier to find 'blind') but has a ridge on it.

My 2 cents: the Huawei P20 pro is not a "camera-centric" phone.
If it where, like the Nokia 808, the Lumia 1020, the Lumia 950, and some Sony, it would have a camera specific hardware button, period.
No way that anyone would think of a Camera with no shutter button.
Same for a "camera-centric" phone. 2 stages shutter button is part of the definition of it.
Look, The chinese know how to make great hardware because the western world outsource the product making to countries like china so after year s and years they learn from doing a copy. So now it comes down to software which is the other half of what makes a great phone and this is where i see many problems.
Huawei is poor in terms of software developping. Simply look at the launcher for exp and you ll see, gallery app, video player, video editor and more
As my previous device (LG V20) uses the same method (double-click volume down) to open camera, I has got no issue regarding the action. Only funny thing is that, at first, I didn't realize that the default mode take a picture when I double-click. I was so used to the way double-clicking while bringing up the camera. In that way, the camera is ready when the phone is in position and i can take photos. But later, I realized that there are so many blur pictures in my gallery. Only then I realized that it took picture by default. Quite easy to change the action in the camera setting though.
I'm on Resurrection Remix.
Double tap power key opens the camera from any screen no matter what.
If you're lucky enough to have unlocked your bootloader then give it a shot.
It is using the p20 pro camera too.
