[Q] What actually IS a theme? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As far as I can tell, on my Z3 at least, it means "wallpaper". Nothing else. All the icons look the same on the stock themes, just the wallpaper and perhaps the colour of some text in the settings. What can you actually customise by using a theme? Is there somewhere where there is gathered a bunch of screenshots showing what can be achieved/downloaded?

for included in stock rom, it changes system themes color (base, accent, etc) & wallpaper.
for latest 3rd party (maybe paid themes) they already have covered many ui components for LP.
this for instance
Code:

ok, thanks. I looked mainly at stock, and a few third party ones which didn't change all that much.

Those themes were built for KK firmware, not LP, that's why they aren't working like they worked on KK.

All those themes are not compatability with lollipop.. Some of the themes alone updated to lollipop support..
Try below mentioned theme

[QUESTION]CM9/AOKP theme chooser themes?

I want to implement my icons into a theme, and my questions are:
First question: Does the cm9/aokp (prev cm7 themes) have the capability of theming all application icons, including non-system apps?
Second question: Is there a way to make the theme only apply icons, and nothing else.
My goal is to create a theme that is just icons, due to the limitations of the theme chooser (my understanding is one can only have a single theme applied at once). This way someone could apply my icons, and then install a theme via flashing it, to have the best of both worlds.
Any help would be appreciated, I couldn't find an answer otherwise.

I Googled your question to find out that there's one theme in the play store that is a "cm9/aokp (previously cm7 theme)" they actually say they had to port it to cm9 (read the theme's info on play store), anyway the developer says that the icons come in a separate package -for the moment, IMHO and since these people have promised to have the third party apps in the coming weeks, then it is possible as long as there are people who have already been working on it.
Good luck.
Take a look at the Cobalt, Crimson Cobalt, and Purple Kush themes. They work really well and look good, they also theme 3rd party app icons (I noticed ES file explorer and Google Chrome were themed.) You can look through the apk to see the method of third party theming, i'm sure it isn't too hard with the theme chooser implemented.

[Q]Why aren't all theme features available? (CM11)

Recently I've been trying some roms on android. I've tried PA, Carbon, AOKP and my favorite so far, CM11. All of them have the Theme Engine from CM. But also of them also have the same 'issue'. Some features from the themes(like Icons and Wallpapers) sometimes aren't available. The only theme that I could use all of them so far was Flux. So, I'd like to know why, wether if the themes I choose don't have those features or those features aren't compatible. Thanks.

It's the themes you have that don't have all the features.
e.g. an icon pack would only show up in icons, wallpaper pack in wallpaper, font pack in font.. thought it wasn't that hard to figure out lol.

Oh, ok, thanks. It's that the screenshots for some themes also include a few things that aren't included in the theme itself.
Thanks for clearing that out;
Also, the pics may not be updated. It's not uncommon that an update has occurred but the dev didn't upload new screenshots.

I think it can happen, just make a theme that has transparent values for notification backgrounds (if alpha values are valid on it) , but it will look weird and a lot of ghosting can occur.
The thing is themes like that can never have theme store release. (coz official theme editor won't allow that kind of modification or alpha editing on notif. bg.)
I really miss the 'old school' themes that were black and blue with glass or transparency effects, nowadays most themes seem to be bright whites or pastel colours or dull material themes hmm

Yeah, true. Me and my team developing themes for a long time we can do 95% full themed on any devices with themestore incl notifications, icons..email, themestore, live lockscreen ect. STE (Samsung theme editor ) that's fun for the started themer and it's regular Samsung theme store stuff... Most codes u have to added manually also bg, png, 9-patch and so on...
It's take many hours...[emoji1]

[Feature request] system wide icon theming

Would it be possible to use substratum to theme icons system wide? It was possible using cm theme engine. I would like to be able to do this using substratum since I'm on 7. 1 now. Thank you for listening.
The Flash said this feature will be coming soon.

Why? You can use custom launchers to do this already, what point would such a useless feature do

With respect to the original poster, I concur...
I don't see much value in having Substratum theme icons, and am concerned that attempting to add this to Substratum would add unnecessary overhead and bloat to the code...
I agree with the position that a custom launcher is the best way to deal with icons.

Personally I don't care mate but the guy was talking about system wide theme, not partial... It's like going to the restaurant, ask for lobster and they only give you shrimps because lobster is too expensive
It's possible to do but you'll have to install packages for all apps that you want themed. So like I have 200 apps installed already then would need to install 200 icon apk's to do it. Most themers aren't concerned about it. Was nice on CM but not worth the hassle my $.02.
this theme already does that

Theme problem.

Hi guys. I just got an xa recently and it's a great phone. But i'm having a problem with the themes.
No matter what theme i apply the dialer, contacts, messaging and clock don't change theme. Dialer and messaging stays blue contacts is a pink colour and clock is always green. I've used the stock themes and downloaded a few but nothing changes except lockscreen and wallpaper.
Anyone else have this issue at any time?
Edit: after doing some research it seems they can't be themed.

For one, Sony went with Google apps, and Swiftkey, instead of Xperia apps, for some things, (strange, since Xperia apps are better). Also Sony Theme Creator hasn't been updated to N compatibility yet, (last time I checked), so any STC themes will have a limited effect. Search the cross-device development themes and apps thread...

I'll have a look thanks for the tip. One of my favourite things about Sony was the ability to theme almost all of the ui, and so was a bit disappointed with nougat. Haven't got the hours to spend themeing stuff like I did with older versions or Linux stuff. Must be getting old or lazy or both lol.
