New to Moto G, few simple questions - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello /G/,
I just got my Moro G LTE 1st Gen and I have a couple of simple questions. I am aware that some are more opinion based so I'd love anyone personal input.
1) Is Lollipop out yet for the G?
2) Are there any really good AOSP based ROMS? If so what ones do you recommend? I'm not really a big CM fan.
3) What are the top kernels that offer best mix of Battery/performance?
4) Are any Moto X features portable/ported?
Typically I prefer Stock or AOSP ROM's with just a couple of tweaks and a good solid kernel, so that is what I also intend to run on this phone as well.
Thanks for any/all input.

1) Yes
2) Yes, CM, OmniRom, LiquidSmooth etc.
3) Least bloatware should give best performance/battery?
4) No idea.
If you value your privacy I would not install GPE. I am also in the process of finding a "clean" rom. Or making one.

[Q] Opinions on PacMan Rom? (And Others)

Hi everyone, I'm sorta new to Android and rom-flashing, so here are my questions:
Baseline Question: Which ROM is the best: Cyanogenmod, Paranoid Android, or AOKP?
So, I obviously googled this question and the same answer I keep getting is that each rom delivers a different user experience and that the answer depends on the person and that you should just try out each one. But recently I came to know of Pacman Rom, which claims to encompass all three of these roms (and more)...so now for my real question.. It seems super awesome that Pacman Rom encompasses all three of these roms, but if it's so good, why isn't everyone on it already? Meaning, is there any reason that I'm missing as to why some people prefer to stick to a particular one instead of this awesome-seeming rom? Just curious as to whether I should flash this or stay with Cyanogenmod.
I can imagine reasons like Pacman Rom may not be available for as wide a range of phones, etc., but any other reasons for why or why not? Thanks in advance guys!
My Phone Currently: Samsung Galaxy S3 T-999 4.1.2 Cyanogenmod 10.1

The answer to this is really the same as your original question
"So, I obviously googled this question and the same answer I keep getting is that each rom delivers a different user experience and that the answer depends on the person and that you should just try out each one."
It's all personal taste and personal wants/needs. I suggest you read through the thread for the ROM in your device section and if it looks appealing to you then flash it and try it out. If you don't like it, you can always go back to what you were using or try out something else

Sense vs GPE

Has anyone tried running both Sense and the GPE ROM for any length of time? Any deal breakers with the GPE ROM. I have read through most of the forum over there, but I'm not allowed to post in development forums so I wanted to see if anyone could provide any feedback on the GPE ROM. I used to have the Thunderbolt but grew sour of Sense after a while. Now I'm pretty much over any manufacturer UIs like Blur, TouchWiz, Sense, etc. I'm looking for the pure android experience I get with my Nexus 7, but Nexus isn't available on Verizon so a GPE version of the HTC One M8 seems like about the best thing to try. Any thoughts on how this ROM works?

GPE is essentially pure AOSP. just comes with google apps etc. I personally love it, I just came over from the galaxy s4 a few days ago where I was running the GPE rom there and it was my favorite rom ive ever ran on any phone. I haven't used sense in so long im enjoying it right now, still running stock rooted s-off with xposed, but when I do start roming ill prolly just go straight to GPE.
I'll stick with sense IMO, many more features, very fast , and unparalleled functionality.

I've used the GPE rom for a few days and the sense based roms as well. In my experience it seems the GPE needs a custom kernel because there are a few things not working properly, the camera for example, and the overall experience is sluggish compared to the sense based roms. Stick with anything sense based right now, run a different launcher, and use xposed, that combo is killer and you get all the speed you can handle. Give the GPE a few more weeks and it'll probably be in full working order, at which time I'll definitely be going to it. So nice having a clean rom that was explicitly made for this phone from the manufacturer.
GPE isnt as good as some ASOP roms IMO. I typically run SlimKat, but there are many more out there.

Why is CM so important to everyone, when other roms are more stable/more features?

Not bashing CM but why is everyone so inclined to use it when it's not stable compared to other custom roms?

because most other roms use cm as base , and if cm isn't stable other roms will be unstable too .
The exception being Moto G stock android + (Xposed + modules), which isn't based off CM. It is extremely stable and bang up to date!
I will never ever ignorantly buy again a Droid which is not (enough) stock Android first and formost. I had several Samsungs (S1,3,4) and a LG Opt.G Pro. Hate hate hate factory UI's since Nexus an now Moto G Lte. It is like raping Android with those UI's not to mention über-bloated unnessary battery drain and lag.
In perspective of this one know's if full CM (or better Slim Roms) support one has good alternatives for a Droid. Official CM support often means open drivers thus decent/good custom rom quality. If custom roms are dependent on blobs for lack of open source drivers their custom roms will be most of the time full of bugs and be crap.
Another perspective of full CM (or better Slim Roms) support is good quality of newest Android versions when for instance a Moto G is end of support and will not receive updates anymore.
So when a Droid has no official CM support (and aviabilty open source drivers) I will never buy it. No matter how cheap. Official CM support will also mean a big choice of good different custom roms.

I prefer Paranoid Android. The update scheduled every Wednesday, well organized compared to CM, which updated randomly.
Miracast screen-mirroring is fully functional in CM, but not in Stock. So to fully realize the capability of Moto G's hardware a custom ROM is currently required.
CM Miracast might be one good reason its true. However I have been getting perfect results using an Airplay app on a standard Moto G. Airplay is a well engineered cross platform system which works equally well with Apple, Android and Blackberry devices.
Cm is Best Rom Ever!! Every Android device has Cm, and also used Base Rom to port other Roms... So There is No Competition with Cm...

[Q] Difference between AOSP and GPE

Hello!
In the forums there are some really good ROM options. Because I like to be as slim as possible with the software on my phone, I prefer vanilla-like ROMs. In this case, there are two for the Moto G that seem very similar, and I would like someone to tell me the differences. One is the GPE ROM made by lost101. The other one is an AOSP build made by Alberto97.
I can understand that a difference are the apps included on each ROM. But as I can modify those after installing any of the ROMs, I would like to know if there are any technical differences between them (like drivers or internal code optimizations), something that goes beyond UI or apps. I would like the get the "fastest performance".
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
I am not able to go into detail but I can tell you that the GPE one, since it's based on an official release by Motorola, is much more stable and trustworthy for me. I've tested countless roms and the optimized GPE one by lost101 is by far the best. Other roms are built from scratch by excellent devs, but they always end up having various problems for me... Apps that don't work the way they should, bloatware, missing or cryptic features...
Anyway, that is just my opinion.
Although I don't know why, GPE includes some proprietary frameworks and stuff, and therefore is pretty large and heavy. You might not feel it when using, though.
As for me, I'll recommend AOSP any day. Not even CM, if you want to be as light as possible.

GPE is Motorola's version of AOSP with their own additions like proprietary drivers and apps. AOSP is the base of all Android ROMs so its as minimal as you can get
Thanks, everyone!
From your answers, I understand that the GPE version includes proprietary software from Motorola. I would suppose that these changes are for optimizations on performance and stability, so I think I will go with that as in the end the experience should be improved with those, right?

Battery life & stability for 5.*.* and 6.*.* ROMs?

A friend of mine has complained about their stock 2013 KitKat Moto G (Falcon, I believe) locking up and generally lagging a lot. She's asked me to take a look at it.
I root and ROM all my own phones, but when it's someone else's device I'm a bit more hesitant, as I don't want repeat problems coming back needing to be fixed.
Since I've never owned this phone I want to get advice from you guys regarding whether the battery life of Lollipop and Marshmallow ROMs takes a hit versus KitKat, as it did on my Nexus 5? Also, what ROM would you recommend for absolute stability, along with decent battery life? Extra features are not a concern, my friend has no desire to customise her phone or do anything outside of Facebook/email/web-browsing and other consumer-app use.
Alternatively, do you have any tips for increasing the performance of the phone on the stock (non-rooted) software ? I haven't looked at it yet, but I imagine that with just 1GB of RAM, it could probably be improved by disabling Chrome and installing a more lightweight browser. I realise that Motorola don't really install much bloatware on their phones, but is there anything that I can disable that will help?
