Lol he doesn't...you can flash TWRP with Odin, and then flash superuser zip once you boot into twrp

So doing that will root the device isn't it? I thought you could always root using cf method and then install recovery.

Hi thanks for all the comments. What I am trying to do is just obtain twrp recovery without tripping knox . I do not need root at the moment as I use barclays app. But I do not have WiFi call button and in the edge forum someone has created a zip to flash to get the right others.xml for it to work.

Correct. Knox is tripped once rooted.

I'm pretty sure that Knox was tripped by installing TWRP via Odin for me.
What about if I Fastboot boot recovery.img. so I can make a backup without installing the recovery. Will this allow me to flash over the others.xml file so I can get WiFi calling working. Without rooting.

Whoops! Guess I was wrong.
Right, flashing via odin does not require root, however can I just ask from those that have done it this way if they tripped knox while doing so.
As I am getting a bit of mixed reviews on this one.
Edit - don't worry read article that this does indeed trip knox.
now will it trip if I just try to boot as in Fastboot Boot recovery.img just to do a backup.

Your profile states you are in London, so knox is irrelevant to you - basically if you have to send your phone in to be fixed for anything with knox tripped it won't matter
So I take it Samsung g pay won't be coming to the UK. And I know Warranty is void when rooted anyway. But y is knox not valid in London?
Not London specifically, Europe. There's been a few conversations about it in the general section

Update will remove root and will fail if you have CWM installed, it requires stock recovery to apply (this is of course if you go the official update route).
Return to stock recovery
So how do I return to stock recovery from cwm? I'm not so concerned about this update, but I'd like to use stock ics when it comes out. ( keeping root, of course)

Flash stock recovery with ODIN, make sure there is not a kernel in the .tar or the flash counter will trip.

If you get familiar with ODIN (and heed the same warning I posted above) all you end up having to do is flash CWM recovery and then install superuser via an update zip file. You may have to flash it "2 - 3 times to get it to complete without error" I am not sure why it does that but I followed the instructions around here somewhere.
Many thanks to you guys! I had the same question.

I want to do a full backup of my original ROM. But I believe I need to root to do that.
Now if I root it to back it up, if I restore the ROM, will it still be rooted?
Thanks

For a full backup you need a custom recovery. If you can flash CWM or TWRP without rooting your phone, you're fine. If you have to root it, backup will be rooted, too. But you can "unroot" any phone with SuperSU

For Samsung phones you can just flash any stock firmware including recovery via ODIN. BUT keep in mind that All Samsung phones Galaxy S4 and newer have the crappy KNOX security integrated. So your warranty is gone once you flashed any custom rom.

They will. Your phone has a "KNOX" counter. Its 0x0 when you get your phone. Flashing anything custom like qwill set it to 0x1 and there is no way to revert it.

Can you elaborate as I'm new to samsung modding been using nexus for a long time
did you follow : http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/development/recovery-official-twrp-herolte-t3333770
If you only want a bootable system partition or writable data in TWRP:
Download dm-verity and force encryption disabler.
Without exiting TWRP, transfer no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip to your device over MTP* and flash it using [Install] in TWRP.

Should i flash the Dm-verity disabler? And I'm already on the stock do you mean latest firmware/ota?
1st off why would u want to do that.
this is what you need to do : CF-AUTO / TWRP / dm-verity / flash custom rom.
If you want a stock rom with root then you need to do everything but flash a custom rom
any time a ota update is forced you will be unrooted, your best best is to do what what i just said

Hi
Yes it will......
Guys I am in need of help. I did not fully understand step 10 and just skipped originally. I did notice I could not wipe anything but thought I would be fine so I just dirty flashed custom ROM assuming wipe would work afterwards and I can clean install after.
I am obviously stuck now with 0MB internal storage shown along with no access to phone since it says upon boot that verification has failed and that I need to reset my phone.
Now, I do have important photos/datas which I do not want to lose... I did hear other guys restored their nandroid backup and were fine.
My question is, is there any way for me to access and back up my internal data somehow? I did hear something like flashing a stock firmware via Odin without the cache inside. Could someone confirm that this would work please? Would really appreciate a response. Thanks guys.
EDIT: I did try this:

Download dm-verity and force encryption disabler.
Without exiting TWRP, transfer no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip to your device over MTP* and flash it using [Install] in TWRP.
But TWRP would not allow me to flash because it said it could not mount storage.
Hi all, using S7 SM-G930F. Just got it yesterday and first thing I wanted to do was flash TWRP so I could put the new Pixel OS onto it.
Used ODIN, got the pass message as usual... phone rebooted automatically into stock OS. I turned it off and tried booting into recovery mode but it gets stuck at the splash screen. Nothing happens, not even stock recovery. I re-flashed TWRP without auto-reboot option this time but the same thing happens.
So essentially I have a phone that works but no recovery mode at all I can't find anyone else with this same problem, please help. I can't get any further without it. Ideally I want to avoid flashing the entire stock image. Thanks

I'm afraid it hasn't worked. Exactly the same thing, just stuck on splash screen until I reboot into OS.
Double checked, OEM Unlock is definitely enabled.
Id flash stock again to fix recovery, then try TWRP with ODIN 3.12.3

Do you mean flash the entire stock firmware or just stock recovery? I'm attempting to extract stock recovery from firmware now... but if I have to flash the whole firmware then I guess I have to.
Just flash full stock, you won't lose anything unless you flash CSC which resets the phone after the flash
But you do know you have to wipe your phone to get TWRP installed correctly right?

Nope. I didn't know. No guide I used ever states that anywhere (I'm a CWM person also, first time using TWRP).
Sounds strange to me.. How do you root your phone using TWRP then if you have to wipe it first?
Can I even use CWM for S7? Didn't think so as there are no guides for it.
Not worried about losing anything as only got the phone yesterday but really worried about the stock firmware flash not working the same way TWRP doesn't, that's why I wanted to avoid it if possible, I'll give it a go. Thanks

You don't have to use TWRP to root, if you're not bothered about having custom recovery you can just flash CF-Auto Root using ODIN, that will root without the need for TWRP
Reason you have to wipe with TWRP is because of encryption the phone is using - reading the TWRP thread would be a good plan before blindly flashing stuff
Don't worry about flashing stock, I have the same G930F, flashed stock a couple times using ODIN, no issues

OK, considering the phone is pretty much empty and new, just flash all 4 ROM parts with ODIN
AP, BL, CP and CSC, factory reset the phone and start again from scratch
This time read the TWRP thread, or the CF Auto root thread here on XDA before doing anything at all

Did you unlock your bootloader? That is way flashing twrp works but would not boot twrp
I know the problem. Make sure "reboot automatically" is DISABLED in Odin when flashing TWRP. If you do not it will fail. I know from experience. Im assuming you already know to habe OEM unlocked etc etc
