[Q] How to change / repair damaged led notification - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I accidentally drop my moto g into water, since it's only less than 10 seconds I just wept the water from phone without put it in a rice bag. I turn off the phone and wept the phone surface till dry and turning on again. The phone start normally without any defect but I notice that my LED always turned on even there is no notification. Later LED notification is died (a least i think it's dead) because even there is a notification it will not turn on.
I think LED notification is short circuited, If there is a way to change it / repair it ? I really thank you if anyone could tell me how to change it (video preferred) and tell me where to buy the spare part.
Thank You.

Bump up... hope someone can give me right path

Mystery - Light won't go off

A few weeks ago I took a short plane ride an put my phone in airplane mode turned off on the seat beside me. A few hours later I picked up my phone and before I even turned it on, I noticed the light (camera light) was on. It won't go off.
Even when the phone is off if the battery is in or the phone is connected to power or my PC the light is on.
Needless to say - this is draining my battery quickly. Although it makes the phone easy to find in my purse
I called HTC tech support, they suggested that I check the settings in the camera function. The light was "off" and turning it on just made it brighter. Did a hard restart - no change. Even installed a new ROM. No change. I did not have time to sit on the phone with support but it sounds like a hardware issue to me. Before I call support again, does anyone have any "bright" ideas?
Thanks
If you've tried another rom then it most likely is a hardware issue.
What you could do is try installing one of the flash light programs which lets you control the camera LED to use it as a flash light, strobe, or transmit morse code. See if you can turn it off with one of those apps.
I guess you could either wait for the bulb to burn out.. or send it in for warranty. Try finding out if there is an At&t Device support center in your area where they'll most likely replace the device on the spot if its under warranty. I prefer this over dealing with them over the phone. Make sure you've atleast flashed to a shipped rom and original spl
Spooky
Strangely enough, my light was stuck on after a handset / water interface. I couldn't find a way of turning it off, but took it on holiday to Egypt and at some point it must have completely dried out as the light went off and now works properly. Initially I thought the LED had finally blown, but it actually works properly again.
Might be expensive, but you could try taking your phone to Egypt !

[Q] No Display

Anyway I haven't been using the fuze for like a year now so if you guys can't fix it then no problem. So, the display does not show at all. When I turn it on you feel the vibration, however the screen does not light up at all, you get no display. How it happened was that I had slept on it by accident (which makes me think it be fix unless I do something physically like take it apart), when I woke up a realized that I was laying on it I immediately got up and the display was not showing.
I've tried leaving it plugged in for 8 hours and it didn't work......that's all I tried.
Thanks for all the answers.
I sleep on mine all the time...
Have you attempted to get into bootloader; to see the multi-color screen?
no display
i think its about time you opened the device up and seen whats going on inside
if you break it, no biggie = can't fix it then no problem

Problem with the backlight

Hi! Two days ago, my phone dropped in water , i put them immediately in rice until today. When start it with the power button, i felt the vibration and i hear the open sound. But the screen remains black... but i discover that it was just the backlight because when i watch the screen under a lamp i can see the interface and slide between pages... but its very dark. Is it possible to change this backlight? or just wait few other days to allow time to dry fully. I welcome your suggestions! thanks

When there's water involved, IT's hard to know exactly what damaged. Could be just stain on the ribbon connectors, a burned fuse/diode/resistor (all of them micro sized) etc.. or just the LCD's backlight damaged entirely.
Keep it on rice for more time. I would make the battery to discharge to 0%, But it's also more recommended to keep the phone OFF. Only my friend LUCK knows.
To change the backlight, the whole screen needs to be changed.
Backlight died on me. Possible moisture.
First, it was on boot loop (on stock rom)
i went to restart it (holding power button and volume down)
then the screen turned bright white, restarted it and then the backlight died, dismantled the phone, now still in rice, also happened on 2nd April.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Took it apart down to the Screen (not the screen layers), left it in rice, works like a brand new now. Cheers.
I just replace all the frame and lcd for a new on my nexus 5, but the problem was still there... no backlight, i can see a little bit the screen, but it's very dark... do you have any idea for try to repair this, because now i don't think that it's the screen but more a motherboard or power problem for the backlight :S
exactly same problem here
nexus 5 phone dropped in water.
Backlight went out permanently - rice didn´t help.
Can see the display working using a flashlight - so rest of the phone seems to be working ok.
Just pruchased a new screen, put it all in and still the same problem: display works, touch works, backlight is off.
So it seems the backlight part of the display receives no power - anybody has an idea how to fix that?
thanks
I have answer to this!
I have had this problem like 3 months now and i finally fixed it.
Basically what i did was that i bought a broken nexus 5 (only the screen glass was broken) and tried to swap every part one by one. The one that was not working was the main dock!
It is a cheap fix, like 10£ on Ebay.
I am writing this post because anyone else haven't.
I hope that someone sees this.
I now copy this message to all other threads so people can fix their nexus 5's
PS:as you can probably tell English isn't my first language.
Hello! I am having the same problem. The cell phone fell to the floor and the next day the problem began. The display is not broken.
What are you taking about when you say "main dock"? Motherboard aka mainboard?
Thanks!

[Q] Nexus 5 - moisture damage - screen failure but phone shows signs of life

Hi guys,
So... I work as a dog sledder in Canada. I had my Nexus 5 in my pocket (of my 'water proof' jacket) on a very wet day. I received a phone call so I took it out. The phone was wet and the touch screen unresponsive. The screen looked like it should when receiving a phone call, only very dark. I tried turning off the phone but the touch screen was unresponsive. Because the phone responded to the power button and the screen worked (but was darker than usual) AND the phone wasn't submerged in water, I decided not to open the phone and just put it in a bag of rice (hoping not have to void the warranty).
After 2 days I checked the phone and the screen showed a mixture of colored, vertical lines. So the situation was worse. I tried putting the phone on silica (+ hair dryer) but no results. I finally decided to open up the phone and clean the circuits with alcohol and a toothbrush. No results. I know I waited a long time...
Situation now is:
- Notification sounds work
- Incoming call sound used to work - not anymore
- Screen doesn't show the colored lines anymore
- Screen back light works
- Phone sometimes responds to volume buttons (plays sounds) but with a delay
- Phone sometimes responds to power button (back light) but with a delay
- PC recognizes phone through USB but I can't access storage because I can't unlock safety pattern
I fear for more damage than just the screen. LG gave me a repair quote for $150 (+ tax) which is basically the price for a new screen so I am really considering sending it in if there is nothing I can do.
I know that Google gives a one time free replacement Nexus 5 but that's only if you bought it on Google Play, which of course I didn't (that would make life too easy). Contacted the online shop I bought it from but not hoping on any response soon...
But since I need the phone for my work, I wonder if you guys have any other (quick) options I could try out?
Also, is there a way to bypass the safety pattern? USB debugging is not enabled so I guess using dba wont work (tried but it wouldn't recognize my device). Can't see anything on screen so connecting USB mouse is not an option (?).
I am getting pretty annoyed because I can hear text messages coming in but I can't read them. Any chance you guys know of a way to read them (without having to access the phone and install an app)? I put my SIM card in another phone but it wouldn't show my unread messages (really thought this would work)...
I know this is a lot of stuff but I love my Nexus so much, I want it fixed
Thanks in advance guys!

Water damaged Nexus 5s are a lost cause and not much you can do about it.

Try a wired headset. My s4 touch screen crapped out and with a wired headset I was at least able to answer calls. Factory reset will let you bypass pin screen but don't do it on a stock rom because the google setup wizard will screw u if u can't type or hit skip. Good luck

Possible display damage? Or proximity sensor issue?

Hi everybody.
I’ve had this phone for 10 months now and it’s been great. Yesterday, when i was trying to make a call, it was telling me that i am too close to the screen. I understood that the proximity sensor was acting funny, but I didn’t had time to look into it, because it was not covered by anything and it was in good light. This morning it was a short white flash when I unlocked it or when I was turning the screen off. It worked great all day after that. Then this evening i was using the phone and all of the sudden the screen started to flash white, then it would turn off fast and back on all white. It did that for 4-5 times, then it went in the state you see in the clip below. At one tine, it turned on like nothing happened for 3-4 seconds.
If i plug the charger in, it reacts normal. It's making the charging sound and it vibrates. Seems to be alive in the background, even though it's not displaying anything.
Does it have anything to do with the proximity sensor? Is it the ribbon cable connecting the display to the motherboard faulty? Should i just order a new display assembly?
Interesting, the next day seems to behave a bit different. I had remote erased it, i didn't want any of my personal data to remain on it.
I have found out that if the brightness level is low, i takes a few seconds until it starts blinking. If the brightness is high, then it does that straight away.
Ok, i will post a follow up for anyone else having the same problem. Now i can see that the display is damaged on the top left corner, the pixels are staying lit up bright. Now i can use it on low brightness for longer periods of time without flickering.
I have ordered a replacement screen assembly and i'm still waiting for it, as i don't have the phone under warranty. Looking forward to getting it fixed.
I have also ordered a replacement screen and will replace it when the shipment arrived. Have you found a repair manual for the screen replacement?
I have already removed the back cover of my phone and it seems it will not be so difficult. But it would be better to follow a manual.

I read this post now, I've got this kinda of broblem a month ago, but this happened only when the phone temperature became hot, I mean over 40°C, after a factory reset everything became normal, I no longer got high temperature and this problem don't appear, so at least in my phone it wasn't a hardware problem.

How was the teardown ? I can't find any videos on it. The axon 7 was a pain for me because the aluminum case was a pain to take off around the corners and got damaged a bit. Hopefully removing the back of the axon 10 is a little easier . Thanks for any info
