Rooted Nexus 5 running stock 4.4.4. Trying to copy the large TWRP folder from nexus 5 to Windows 8.1 laptop using the usb cable that came with the nexus.
Copying starts fine but at the last "15 minutes remaining" to finish point, the copying stalls and Windows puts up a popup saying it couldn't find the object to copy. When I try to go elsewhere in the nexus file structure I discover the connection has been lost and Windows can no longer see the nexus 5 files. So I need to shut down the laptop to safely disconnect the nexus.
This happens repeatedly. Smaller folders copied fine.
Is this because there is something special about twrp nandroid backup files that make them uncopyable, or could this mean there is a corrupt file or something else?
What should I do?

There isn't anything special with TWRP backups. I'm also using Win 8.1 and never got such problems. Try this: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html. Run as admin, delete all usb related drivers, restart laptop and try again. BTW - you don't need to shutdown laptop to safely remove Nexus.
Thank you very much. I have adb installed. Will deleting these drivers mess up my adb installation?
SOLVED
I solved the problem. In case someone else runs into the same problem, here's the solution I discovered.
It did have to do with the size of the folder - indirectly. The problem was the 2 minute screen timeout I have on my nexus. When the display shut off on the phone the copying stalled. I changed the display timeout to 30 minutes and the folder had time to copy successfully. Obviously I don't want the display timeout to remain at 30 minutes and returned it to 2 min.
Note:
I was copying using the laptop. Maybe if I did it using the phone with a file manager like ES Explorer (if that is possible) this timeout wouldn't be a problem. Don't know. But at least I solved the problem for me.

I am using the USB Storage Enabler hack to use my device as way to transport files to and from work, but over the past 2 days, every time I try to copy something back to the device, windows gives me an error: "Error Copying File. Cannot copy file xxxxxxxx.xxx. The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected."
The device is responding just fine and has definitely not been disconnected. I can even go in and pull files off of the device, I just can't put files back onto it. It was working for a long time and they just suddenly stopped. I have already tried resintalling drivers, trying various USB ports on my computer, etc.
Does anyone have some ideas about how to get it to work?
Solution Update:
I know nobody responded to this, but I thought I'd put the solution up here in case anyone else runs into this same problem. The reason I was getting the error was because when I was trying to move the file, it was in use. The solution is simply to exit whatever program is using the file, then move the file over. Works like a charm.
So I have a Samsung Focus running Mango 7712. I had no issues updating to that, no 'walshed' phone or whatever it's called. I have been trying and looking for solutions for 3 days now on how to update to Mango 7720 but I'm stuck now and nothing seems to work, so I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this.
I have:
1. All the proper drivers installed I'm pretty sure
2. Zune 4.08.2134
3. The 7720.rar and everything extracted directly and properly to the C: drive. I even uninstalled the update tool I had and installed the one that was located in the 7720.rar folder.
So here's my issue:
When I go to run the .bat file as an administrator, everything starts fine, transfers the updates, perfect...except when it gets to "restarting phone". That's when the problem occurs. I feel like it hangs on the 'Goodbye' screen too long, and THEN the command prompt just quits...a few seconds later the phone finally restarts and is stuck on the screen that says to plug it into the computer. So I have to pull battery and restart...obviously with 7712 still on there
I have tried to clear up more space on the phone ( I have 8.0GB free), I have tried unplugging and plugging the USB back in, just trying to restart the .bat file while it's stuck on that screen (to no avail), and I have tried 'pausing' the process in the command prompt until the phone gets back up to the connect to PC screen- but then when I resume the command...it just auto closes.
PLEASE someone help...I'm tired and can't find any solutions
Thanks to any replies in advance.....
I had the same issue. Instead of right-click, Run As Admin, try running the .bat by double-clicking. It still took quite a while for my Focus to reboot, but it finally restarted before the tool timed out.
Also, make absolutely sure all folders are in the C:\ drive. When I first extracted 7720.rar to the C:\ drive, it actually put everything into C:\MANGO. So I had to move it all to C:\ before anything would work.
Hope that helps.

ISVTo7720.bat Hangs on restarting phase/Error 801812c1 after run
This was the most common Error listed and had many solutions which seemed to work sporadically.
1. Do what @DavePerman said, and use the pause command so freeze the cmd command until phone reaches flashing phase.
2. Execute ISVTo7720.bat in a standalone CMD instead of through Windows Explorer. Do this by Run(open as Admin)>cmd>cd Mango>cd RCToRTM>ISVTo7720.bat
3. Remove all music from the device to free up 6+ gigs of memory.
4. Have at least 12 gigs of hard drive space on your computer. Some clam they needed 20
5. press the off button on the phone to force the phone into its flashing screen. (some say they pressed the button, some say they held it down until the screen turned off)
5. The most extreme, and last resort for this problem is to reset your phone through its settings menu. You will lose all information on the phone. (remember your contacts and apps are all in the cloud, so they can be recovered. Music/pictures/videos can be re-synced if backed up before hand.)
nothing seems to work

Hey guys
I been unable to copy large files to my phone or the sd card while i use the mtp or camera method. I can copy small files without a problem, but when the file is 100mb or larger i will always get an error. Is there any fix for this?
I attached a picture of the error i get.
I just copied a 350MB file and played it back w/o any problems via USB.
How are you copying the file (USB/WiFi/?) and what platform/tools are being used?
I'm using windows 7 x64 server pack 1. I'm using the original usb it came it but no luck. Tried my nexus usb and still same problem. I always get that error. I can cope other files under 100mb without a problem.
Edit: I try to copy it by my computer were the device appears, do I need a software to copy files?

Welcome to the wonders of mtp!
Are you copying to the sd card? If so it could be a bad card. If it happens on internal storage also ..well you now know why mtp suxs ass.
You might want to try the usb storage mod although that only works for the sd card.
And no you should not need any special software mtp is supported in win7
Damn MTP crap..lol.. I kept trying with no luck, but i notice that the drivers always try to install when i plug and unplug the device. I have installed the drivers before, but the phone kept trying to install with fails. Is there a way to clean my pc of all samsung drivers so that i could try a fresh install again?

I was having the same issue. was pissing me off so badly. my problem was I was using the front USB on my computer. ( I built my own) So I switched it to a port in the back of the computer and it works no problems now. Was weird.....
I'm having the same problem on a mac laptop. I haven't tried a different computer but on the same mac, i didn't have problems with MTP on Galaxy Nexus.
It took some cursing and persistence to transfer my songs over...

GS3 is a crap I sell it for Xperia S. I wish I bought the Xperia S first. GS3 is too expensive and found out that Xperia S has better screen, camera.. And regarding the Quad Core of GS3, It doesn't do much compare to Xperia S, dual core is enough, Quad Core is their advertisement to sell their phones. Multitasking in Xperia S is enough. Opening 10 apps at the same time to make the Quad Core fully functional?? WTF 10 apps at the same time?!?
Carefully check
This error indicates that the GSIII is refusing to have crap music put on it.
I got it to work connecting it on a usb port on the back of my pc and by re-installing the drivers a few times. The copying speed is very slow compared to my old phone. Thanks for the help guys.
I am running a CM11 Nightly on my jfltevzw. I am trying to update to a new nightly by dragging and dropping it onto my phone, the way I always do. However for some reason when I try to do it now, I get an error message saying "Cannot copy item: This device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected." even though it shows up on my explorer. I have no idea what happened. It was working fine like a day ago. I have rebooted my computer and everything, but it just won't work. Help!
Usually CM roms have this kind of MTP bugs when you move big files, try rebooting your phone, if you still got a problem, try using adb, or Usb Mode, or copy files over wifi (Airdroid, or ES file explorer ..)

How do I get to USB mode? I tried ADB and it didn't work.
Ok guys I am pretty new to this all this so please bear with me with my bad words. I decided to install a custom rom on to my nexus 7 http://nexus7root.com/nexus-7-roms/c...4multi-window/ (mind you I had a rooted kitkat os installed on my tablet before hand) I installed it and everything went fine. Porblem is when I plug my nexus 7 into my computer, the 26 gigs of space I should have (you know so you can do file management droping pics and vids and such) was not there. I dont understand, no matter what computer I was using ANYWHERE I was always able to simply plug my tablet in and start file management. What am I doing wrong? do i need to install drivers ON the nexus 7? if you say I need to install drivers on to my p.c then please explain (weather it was linux or windows I could do file management on there computer with out having to install anything ahead of time.) so what gives? please help.

Okay, you wont need a driver for your Nexus on ANY PC for file transfer as it's just detected as a mass drive (Any drivers required will be automatically installed)
When you installed this custom ROM did you repartition it and when you plug it into the PC does it pop up about mass media storage modes ?
Thanks for the fast reply....NO i did not re partition it and how do i go about doing that ( I unlocked and rooted my nexus 7 1 year ago, its has been a long time) I simply took the ROM droped it into my tablets file. ran TWRP and press the ok button to install. thats it. my pc notify my that something has been install, when I go to control panal and file management, it see my nexus 7 with a yellow "!" on it. something about drivers. I tried to uninstall and re install but no luck. if you check out my link too you can see rom I put on. Did I answer your question?
