sprint video throttle bypass - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know of a way to bypass the 1Mbps limit for video streaming over LTE on Sprint. Everytime I "stream" a video I always get the low quality version while a quick LTE spark speed test reveals speeds in excess of 27Mbps.

I use hotspot non stop I play in HD in just reg LTE i do not have spark on my tower.
I would check device u r using in setting should be able change for example YouTube u can select qaul

I've realized this is mostly sprint throttling any video services that use Akamai as their streaming provider. You can test this by downloading either Hulu or Bravo apps and start streaming over LTE. The quality is around 1Mbps even though my LTE connection speed test shows 30Mbps down (in a Spark area). If I connect a VPN connection over LTE, the quality instantly goes up to full quality. I wonder if others have had the same issue?

Very interesting.. Sprints not suppose to throttle not saying they do not I would test more as far as streaming is on my end with reg and VPN but most VPN don't work with hotspot so don't use then

[Q] How to maintain connection

So I work in midtown Manhattan, and in my particular building, ATT's service is very spotty, specifically where I sit. You'd think the 28th floor near Times Square would get great reception, but I don't. Oftentimes my network connectivity will go completely blank w/ absolutely no service, then turn back on. I've called ATT, switched to a 4G sim card, they pushed updates, rebooted my phone, etc. all to no avail. I still get very spotty service.
EXCEPT I just figured out if I have an app w/ streaming data running (run once there is an initial connection of course), it actually maintains the connection (currently using the streaming music app "di.fm" and "sky.fm", Pandora would prob work as well). I'm assuming this is because the phone locks onto a specific tower and doesn't let go as long as the app is accessing the data continuously.
Is there a way for my phone to stay connected to a specific tower and not jump around without running a streaming app? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
I hate to say this but it's your area during peak times. I work downtown near the Brooklyn Bridge and experience the same thing. Until AT&T finishes the backhaul this is what we're stuck with. Build props and other mods are shots in the dark but won't help much.
Sent from Desire HD or Inspire 4G or whatever this thing is called via premium XDA app.
Unless they give him a microcell.
Since they know you've been having issues, they might give you one for free.

But why am I able to maintain connection when running a streaming app? If traffic was the reason why my connection was dropping, wouldn't it still do so?
I think the tech guy said something about how my phone would try to connect to a tower 20 miles away when there are half a dozen right around me. When my phone does have reception, it's probably because it's hooked up to one of the close local towers, and running a streaming app forces it to stay locked onto that one...

When idle it's easier to drop connections as the phone switches frequencies. Here's a couple of things to do if you haven't done so already.
Make sure you're running the stock radio, if you haven't flashed another radio you're running the stock one.
Change to usa bands only. Open the dialer, press: *#*#4636#*#* Go to phone information. Press menu then press select radio band. Then select USA only. Give it a few seconds while it reconnects.
OK I'll let you know if it maintains network connection any better.
Also, what about the preferred network type? The options I have are:
- WCDMA preferred
- GSM only
- WCDMA only
- GSM auto (PRL)
- CDMA auto (PRL)
- CDMA only
- GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)
- Unknown
It was previously on WCDMA preferred, but should it be GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)?

[Completed] Wifi tether routher slows down for PS4 Help

I decided to root my phone (galaxy S5) and downloaded the Wi-Fi tether router from the play store. I recently got a message saying " You've used 100% of the paid high speed data on your T-mobile plan. Your Smartphone Mobile Hotspot speed will now be limited to 128 kbps until 09/23/2015. Smartphone data will still be at full speeds. My laptop connects at full speed when using a vpn. Last month it also would work using a user agent and the console would be unaffected for some reason this month T-mobile has found a way to stop it. The console will obtain the IP address, internet connection is successful but the download speed says 128 kbps making everything unplayable. My APN and router settings are all correct and I don't know what to do. This is my only means of playing online or enjoying Netflix plz help me.

My first recommendation is to get a contract with a higher data volume (or mobile internet flat rate) for unlimited speed.
The carriers need some money to provide a high quality mobile network.
My second recommendation is to check one of the following threads:
Bypass T-Mobile Tethering Restriction?
Unlimited tethering mod for T-Mobile S5 by tech128
WiFi Tether for S5
There you may find some useful hints how to configure things ...
If it does not work in your case, either ask in one of these threads, or think about my first recommendation
Thread closed. Thank you !

Does anyone know if the unthrottle mod works?

I used the below mod on several of my earlier sprint phones to Increase internet and download speeds and to avoid throttling. Anyone k ow if it still works?
Gain msl
Dial ##data#
Click edit
Enter msl
Go to multimedia and chang the
RTSP Proxy & HTTPPD Proxy to 0.0.0.0
Reboot
Sprint doesn't throttle unless you're over 25 gigs AND the tower is congested which is very unlikely anymore. However I've never heard of such mod... So I'm rather curious myself. Would be very hard to establish a proper experiment to determine whether or not this mod properly works due to the fact that any throttling is next to impossible to even achieve.

Pixel 2 XL shows internet disconnected when making voice calls on Sprint

Pretty much what it says on the can. If I'm in a voice call and flip over to email, or a browser, all I get is "ERR_INTERNET_DISCONNECTED" and even apps like third party file browsers(Astro) that assume network connectivity to load ads or the like hang up because there's no data network available during voice calls. Once I end the voice call the internet connectivity comes right back and works fine to load the same sites or use the same apps that I wasn't able to use before.
This is a black Pixel 2 XL, unlocked, ordered directly through Google, with a Sprint SIM that I double-checked against the online discussions for compatibility. The device works fine in most other ways. The activation was clean and everything else seems to work.
When I'm at home and on my Wi-Fi I can use both voice and data to multitask, so this is something in how it's working with the carrier. I've tried the LTE(Preferred), 3G, and Global network types in the "Preferred Network Type" section of the "Mobile Network" options for my carrier.
I've looked through all the settings and can't see anything like "enhanced calling" which was the solution with the single-radio Samsung devices. Any ideas how to get the Pixel 2 to share the radio during voice calls?
Thanks,
Steven
I don't think Sprint has the backend to support VoIP and LTE at the same time. So that's probably just a network limitation.
Sprint has one antenna so there's.o voice and data at the same time like GSM. Sprint is CDMA been like that since 2014

I actually have this issue on VZW! Has anyone seen this on VZW? Also, is there a setting to VoLTE? This is stock Android on a VZW Pixel.
Thanks!

Hello. I have a Google store bought Pixel 2. I just placed a call to my voicemail and was able to surf the web on my browser at the same time. It works both on WiFi and with WiFi switched off.

It is on, but it also seemed to stop having the issue on it's own. I wonder if it was a carrier issue?

Question Internet Speed Slow down when talking on any VOIP calls

I have no idea if someone posted this already, however I tried searching but came up with nothing especially since the search feature is wonky [Haven't been on here in a minute].
Jumping straight in, as the title suggest I am experiencing this weird phenomena. I'll be connected to WiFi pulling down 100mbps but whenever I go on a VOIP call (whether WhatsApp, Messenger or Google Duo) the Internet Speed slows all the way down to a crawl to the point where I can't use the phone while on a VOIP call as nothing will load.
I tried doing a speed test while on the call and it basically fails as it can't connect and eventually the internet slows to the point where the VOIP call disconnects.
If I'm on the VOIP call and I disconnect the wifi and mobile data comes in the call quality goes back to normal and the data speeds return to normal.
I've tried using several calling apps and it happens on all of them, voice and video.
I've changed my modem and the problem persists.
I tried connecting to another network and the problem persists.
Is anyone else having this issue?? Are there some developer settings or normal settings that I need to change??
I am impatiently waiting to see if an update will solve this issue.
Please, I really need help as I mainly stay in touch via VOIP apps and as is they are all currently unusable.

I don't understand how you can't understand that VOIP takes more bandwidth especially if you have a much more limited Wifi than 4G or 5G...

I think u missed the point.
It has nothing to do with bandwidth. There is no way the internet should slow down to a crawl and disconnect from a WhatsApp call when I have 150mbs down and I live alone.
Arobase40 said:
What is your Wifi version as 150 Mbps is only theoretical and VOIP (Call + Video) is taking much more bandwith when 4G/LTE can supply much more...
Are you on the 2,4 GHz or 5 GHz band ??? ^^
Then WhatsApp, Messenger or Google Duo could be badly developed but can't say which one is the worse as I don't use any of these apps...
You could also watch at your Wifi settings, including in the Developer option settings.

Is there something I can use to take a detailed log of the internet activity before the call, during the call and after the call?
Arobase40 said:
First check out you are on the 5 GHz band otherwise this could be your problem....
Then , you can first watch at the Wifi settings, touch the 3 dots on the top right of your display, "Advanced" and you should find your Wifi history control (don't know the exact name as I have a french phone).
Then as I said you have many stuffs and logs in relation with Wifi in developer option Tab (but I don't know if you can access the log if you're not root...). I guess you know how to access to this option ?

what is the upload speed of the line?

VoIP doesn't require a lot of bandwidth; a fraction of what you say you have available; 100Mbps is plenty. A couple things can be affecting it. 1) Your router does not have the capacity, or is configured improperly. Check your QoS settings. Or, 2) It is possible that your internet provider is throttling or blocking VoIP calls.
Does this happen every time, or only during certain times to the day?
Yeah voip doesnt require a lot. You can throw 10 users on a 1.5mbps line and be fine.

It happens every single time, whether I am right infront of the modem or all the way in the back room.
Its a brand new modem/router. What am I looking for in QoS settings? (Or what should it be)
The possibility of throttling exist but not so much and I have been using them for years never blocked VOIP calls.
QoS is Quality of Service. It allows you to prioritize or optimize traffic type, by connected device, etc. Not all routers' firmware are the same, nor do all routers implement it the same, so unfortunately I can't be more specific.
Look for QoS settings that allow you to prioritize video/audio streaming. By default, most routers are set to balance all traffic evenly.
As for your internet provider, talk to them and ask if they are prioritizing certain traffic. They may not be, but it won't hurt to ask.
The reason I asked is that I have picked up on my line that when the upload part is being fully utilized, than the download gets heavily affected causing issues regarding voip etc...not sure if that is the case with you

What results do you get with a speed test down/up with nothing else going on? Then try doing speed test during a VoIP call.

To add to this. Do the speed test from a different device AND from the device itself. Make srue they are both connected to the same band.
