I have no idea if someone posted this already, however I tried searching but came up with nothing especially since the search feature is wonky [Haven't been on here in a minute].
Jumping straight in, as the title suggest I am experiencing this weird phenomena. I'll be connected to WiFi pulling down 100mbps but whenever I go on a VOIP call (whether WhatsApp, Messenger or Google Duo) the Internet Speed slows all the way down to a crawl to the point where I can't use the phone while on a VOIP call as nothing will load.
I tried doing a speed test while on the call and it basically fails as it can't connect and eventually the internet slows to the point where the VOIP call disconnects.
If I'm on the VOIP call and I disconnect the wifi and mobile data comes in the call quality goes back to normal and the data speeds return to normal.
I've tried using several calling apps and it happens on all of them, voice and video.
I've changed my modem and the problem persists.
I tried connecting to another network and the problem persists.
Is anyone else having this issue?? Are there some developer settings or normal settings that I need to change??
I am impatiently waiting to see if an update will solve this issue.
Please, I really need help as I mainly stay in touch via VOIP apps and as is they are all currently unusable.

I think u missed the point.
It has nothing to do with bandwidth. There is no way the internet should slow down to a crawl and disconnect from a WhatsApp call when I have 150mbs down and I live alone.

Is there something I can use to take a detailed log of the internet activity before the call, during the call and after the call?

Currently on the 2.4Ghz Network. I get very poor signal from the 5Ghz.

VoIP doesn't require a lot of bandwidth; a fraction of what you say you have available; 100Mbps is plenty. A couple things can be affecting it. 1) Your router does not have the capacity, or is configured improperly. Check your QoS settings. Or, 2) It is possible that your internet provider is throttling or blocking VoIP calls.
Does this happen every time, or only during certain times to the day?
Yeah voip doesnt require a lot. You can throw 10 users on a 1.5mbps line and be fine.

It happens every single time, whether I am right infront of the modem or all the way in the back room.
Its a brand new modem/router. What am I looking for in QoS settings? (Or what should it be)
The possibility of throttling exist but not so much and I have been using them for years never blocked VOIP calls.
QoS is Quality of Service. It allows you to prioritize or optimize traffic type, by connected device, etc. Not all routers' firmware are the same, nor do all routers implement it the same, so unfortunately I can't be more specific.
Look for QoS settings that allow you to prioritize video/audio streaming. By default, most routers are set to balance all traffic evenly.
As for your internet provider, talk to them and ask if they are prioritizing certain traffic. They may not be, but it won't hurt to ask.
The reason I asked is that I have picked up on my line that when the upload part is being fully utilized, than the download gets heavily affected causing issues regarding voip etc...not sure if that is the case with you

What results do you get with a speed test down/up with nothing else going on? Then try doing speed test during a VoIP call.

To add to this. Do the speed test from a different device AND from the device itself. Make srue they are both connected to the same band.

Pretty self explanatory this one - is there any way of knowing whether your mobile internet connection (3G) or WiFi is being used in, for example, a browser session? Just don't want to make the mistake of looking at YouTube on the phone, meaning to use the home WiFi, and end up using my 3G by accident, and paying through the nose for extra feed.

The icons on your task bar should indicate if you have a active data connection.
Or, you can use Spb Wireless Monitor (which you need to purchase). It produces reports telling you which software uses which connections and the amount of data transferred.
In a discussion I had with HTC Tech Support, they told me that wifi, when enabled, over-rides the cellular data. I'm not sure if this just applies to the settings or always. Hopefully, someone can provide a definitive answer.

What all you are saying is true but some applications still use the data network even if wifi is turned on and connected it seems. I have the same issue(i don't have a data plan with my fuze since my college has wifi everywhere). But things like weather and other native apps on the phone will just turn on the 3g network and stat using data instead of wifi.

This ranking is called the "Interface Metric" if you'd like to learn more about it.
There's an HTC program called 'bytecounter' that monitors the SMDx: ports in the system, which are the ports the system uses for data.. in bytecounter you will see the values increase if an application is using data over cellular network. let me know if you'd like me to upload it.

Well that was the kind of answer I was looking for, and is particularly pertinent in my case, as my connection through my mobile provider is about as fast (or maybe even faster) than my fixed line connection at home. A rather bizarre situation, but such is the advancement of Australian broadband infrastructure.
The last couple of times I have used it, I have taken to turning off the phone connection so that only WiFi is running, and then using the internet. It would be good if you can upload the byetcounter program, seems like a free (?) version of the software programatix mentioned.

Newer Windows Live (including the one that come with Touch Pro) will always dial-up the 3G/GPRS connection when checking for email in Messaging. But if you are checking in Windows Live, most of the time it doesn't dial-up but sometimes, it does.
So far that is the only program that I know of behaves like this. I contacted Microsoft regarding this and they keep asking me to contact my celular provider for help. In other word, they are not helping (or do not understand the problem).
Anyway I solved the problem by changing the Connections setting to "My Work Network" for Internet. The catch is, if I really want to use 3G/GPRS, I'll have to change the setting to my celular 3G/GPRS connection.
Or you could use the nodata application from modaco and disable whenever you like the cellular 3g connection just to be sure you are using wifi.When you are away from wifi networks you can in a matter of 2 clicks reenable the cellular 3g connection...

I am used to GSM / At&T - where if you had a 3G connection you could talk on the phone and be on the internet at the same time.
Is CDMA / VZW different? I just talked to a tech and she said it wasn't possible.

According to what I have read on this forum and experienced, with CDMA, you cannot be on the internet and on the phone at the same time.

I never really noticed any kind of problems with it. I can make a phone call while my phone is tethered and I can still also receive calls, I think it probably temporally boots you off 3G during the phone call but put you back on right after.
Yeah EVDO is "1x Evolution Data Only/Optimized" which means that once a voice call comes in you are switched to 1X mode.
The latest SVDO specification (recently released) allows carriers to quadruple their voice calls and also allows data and voice at the same time. However nobody has implemented this yet.
I believe no one will implement this.... Because all providers are going HSPA or right to LTE... Where we will be able to have data and voice at the same time.

Doesn't navigation(on sprint) use the internet? Im able to talk on the phone and still use navigation
There are some "live caller id" services which will do an online 411 lookup for any number that calls you, plus it's nice to be able to browse the internet to look something up while talking with someone (usually handsfree) for example if we're trying to decide on a movie or dinner or where to go out - all very handy to have a simultaneous internet and voice connection.

Two big ones:
1. Conference calls with email coming in. Like - your next meeting has been moved (exchange, push).
2. On phone call - someone asks a question that needs internet connection (I found it this way - they asked what the weather would be like on Sat (it was Monday). I said... hold on a sec... I'll find out... then realized that there is no internet... so I pulled my iPhone out of my pocket and checked it instead. Again - this is something that AT&T does today - just didn't think CDMA was behind the curve on it...

My problem (with Sprint) when I had to have a CDMA device is that there is a difference in signal between EVDO and 1X. For instance, I had full signal for EV, but hardly any for 1X... Thus I could be on data all I want, but I had troubles with phone calls....

I have had a crazy time both with wifi calling remaining connected (suffered sudden drops), and further SMS over wifi seemed spotty at best.
Part of this was caused by either a bad SIM card, or deletions of stock apps and/or services...which now have been fixed.
At the moment everything is working fine. Don't know if this will affect anyone, but I thought I would just add to the library of knowledge.
First, once I got wifi-calling working (meaning the status bar icon was no longer red), I started to read the log files and realized that every time the wifi was reset, wifi calling would not consistently restart.
What I have realized is that wifi-calling and SMS are dependent on TMOs mobile network via wifi. However, any internet connection is simply that...and any apps you have like FB or Google Voice will work with that wifi internet connection. Conversely,the TMO wifi-calling service/app either connects on a different layer (such as the IP layer) or uses some unusual node-based connection to traverse the 802.11 frequency, over your ISP's and other networks to arrive at the TMO servers which then are linked into the mobile network. You can see this by downloading an app that triangulates and provides tower locations nearby or gives you other mobile network data (i.e., CID, etc)... That data is either not decipherable by the app trying to get this data, or one gets unusual info when compared to non-wifi calling. Bottom line is that there are two separate signals being carried by the wifi: "data" and "mobile wifi calling" and they are completely different.
Another example of proof: if you are having difficulty with SMS using your wifi internet connection, try sending the SMS via Google Voice. If you have an internet connection, it will go through immediately. But regular SMS has problems if wifi-calling is not working correctly.
And one of the biggest culprits of this is wifi fixer or other similar wifi connection apps. Although it's only a guess, the "scan" these apps do are likely a simple ping to determine status of the DATA connection.
I shut off wifi fixer (but left it as a widget to use as needed), and I have perfect wifi calling and SMS.
Whatever criteria wifi fixer apps use when deciding to reset or reassociate the wifi connection is not reflective of the integrity of your connection using wifi calling. In fact wifi calling may partially interfere with your data connection which will typically trigger a reset by wifi fixer.
From now on, if I am planning on simply surfing the web and my wifi signal is less than optimum, I will turn on wifi fixer. Otherwise it just tears down wifi calling connection.

Although there have been occasional exceptions, it's unusual for a wifi call on my H1s to last longer than about a minute before dropping off/disconnecting. When this happens, the call time counter changes back to say "Dialing." Of course, there is no dialing, just dead silence. There are no other signs of a problem, no error messages, no indicator icons, etc. On the same wifi network I can make long uninterrupted calls with our older MyTouch 4G - no issues at all with wifi calling.
I'm running unrooted, locked, stock ROM (for now). I don't think I've removed any apps and I think the only wifi-related app I've used is Wifi Analyzer. Could you offer suggests on how to debug this? The firmware update didn't give any improvements. Should I ask Tmo to provide a new SIM card?

Well the first thing I would suggest is a factory reset. This being the most simple option given your phone is not rooted and on stock. The strange part of this is the "Dialing" instead of the normal keypad (which typically reverts when a call is disconnected).
As far as a SIM card, do you ever get any SIM card errors? Like "ER05" or "REV99"?
These are typically the errors of faulty cards or a bad wifi signal. Check out an app called Network Signal Info....it will tell you the strength of the wifi signal compared to the mobile network (although its not always reliable).
Let me know what a factory reset does. All of your apps will be restored by google (and their are apps to modify this restore as well).

Didn't reset yet, want to test a little more.
I've never gotten a SIM card error. The unexpected "Dialing" with the End Call button still showing is the only indication something is off.
Tonight I ran a few tests calling between our 2 Android phones in the same room, same wifi. 3 calls 1S to MT4G: 2 were perfect and lasted several minutes, while the middle call disconnected after less than a minute. 3 calls MT4G to 1S: all 3 went directly to voicemail, the 1S didn't even ring. Now I recall that's been a complaint before - that calls to me go straight to voicemail when I've been on wifi calling.

Are you sure wifi-calling is on? Do you have the blue icon in the status bar?
Sometimes this isn't on, even though wifi is on and you are making a call.. Not sure if that is intentional or not.
Just in case... The switch is in settings> more (under wireless and network buttons)

Yep, it's on.
Just to be clear, the H1S has received calls when wifi calling is on, it's just sometimes that they go directly to vm. For example, as I'm typing the phone just received a wifi call and is handling it fine, hasn't dropped after 3 minutes.
NO CONSISTENCY, BUT USUALLY DOESN'T WORK.
A factory reset did not fix the problem.

Yes, have done tons of research and am having a similar issue. It's believed to be software related. If LTE or Global are set as the "Preferred Network Type" under Mobile Network AND wifi is turned on, then the mobile signal cuts out when it goes to sleep. With 3G set, the phone works fine with wifi turned on. I've tried wiping the phone and also loaded the factory 4.4.2 image via fastboot this morning and still have the problem. Some people have RMA-ed their phones and still report the issue, so it must be a certain combination of settings. It's also being reported from Sprint and T-Mobile user, so it's not restricted to just one network. As for me, I'm on Sprint in NYC, have an AC router and using an Airave. My Galaxy S4 didn't have any problems.

I'm in an area that is reported as not having the issue, so it's not that for me. Plus, I'm on 3G with the Airave. I remember having the HTC Mogul on Sprint and for a while it would just die if the signal was roaming. An update fixed it, but it wasn't fun. At least in this case the phone still works, not as advertised, but it works. Here's to hoping that it's fixed soon!
I'm the Tmobile user in the Google discussion. It's an annoying problem and hope it's fixed with 4.4.3. However the issue just happened to me in the last week before I got the 4.4.2 update. So I'm not sure what could have happened from a month ago when I got the phone until a week ago. Haven't installed any new apps since then.

From what I've read, this phone handles cell signals much differently because of the newer LTE TDD. It could be any number of things really, but I don't have the expertise to examine the code to see what was changed between the 4.4 and 4.4.1/4.4.2 baseband. I do believe that all of the Wifi and cell signal issue posts that are popping up now are related though.
I'm also noticing my wifi speeds bouncing all over the place (from ~180Mbps -- ~500Mbps) and I'm only a few feet away from my router. I have a Netgear r6300v2 AC router.
12/14/13 Update: I just got off of the phone with Sprint. They show that there is an internal memo on the issue and LG is aware of it. They will be pushing an update as soon as it's ready. Sprint will also be pushing an update for the Airave to help with the issue, starting on 12/19/13.
The support rep told me that it is an issue where the wifi and LTE radios aren't playing nicely together and it's causing this conflict. That's why everything seems to work fine when 3G is set as a preferred network.

(the 1st is stupid, but i'll ask anyways) - when this issue occurs, is the phone set to **wifi only** with 3g / lte in airplane mode?
or does it occur when just setting up wifi in ADDITION to 3g / lte?
&, when you typed Receiving no calls out texts while on WiFi , is your application for texting, hangouts?
if it's hangouts, then google neutered it to only allow text thru the cellular network,
but if you're simply joining a wifi hotspot at work or home, with your cellular network enabled, it SHOULD go thru, ive never had an issue like that with wifi toggled.. even with 4.4.1

maybe it's simpler than one would expect (shot in the dark)
to sum it up;
on our new triband spark capable phones, does *automatic vs home only* in (change the cdma roaming mode) mean what we THINK it means in relation to it's single chip, single path architect??
back when, in dual pathed phones it MEANT roaming in another provider, when ecsfb, carrier aggregation, spark wasn't a thought..
but these newer triband phone are different beasts, & the effect of the patched worked, fit n finished network of cell sites of upgraded , non upgraded network vision, does toggling automate for smoother performance between these sites on these triband devices, with single paths....?
something as simple as a network toggle, to aid service (on the mobile client side) in this -

just a note -
if you look at slide 7 on the qualcomm snapdragon 800's chipset (you all already know this)

there's only ONE chip to handle wifi, 4g, 3g, bt, etc..
with lesser BoM (bill of materials) just maybe, top level s/w userspace toggles, handle more than what meets the eye, the point i was making in another thread..
which not only effects our nexus 5s, but even other phones in various ways depending on the implementation of sw/hd, of the same chipset family..
& sprint has mentioned for the forseeable future, of providing phones, with these types of chips from qualcomm..

the ONLY reason i pointed to the network settings *home vs automatic* in this situation, is because,
the qualcomm sd 800 is an asymmetric multiprocessor, (as will future chipsets be) & you're losing other core networking functions, while gaining another, when you SHOULD have available ALL facilities -

It actually occurs when the phone is connected to LTE and WiFi together. If my settings were to connect to 3G along with WiFi, SMS works fine.
I have to manually change my Mobile Network settings when I get to home or work, where I will be connecting to WiFi (note cellular service is always ,on, I didn't mean to make it sound as if I am trying to send SMS over WiFi). So when home I turn on WiFi along with 3G connectivity and when I leave I turn off Wifi and switch to LTE.
This issue has been happened while unrooted and running stock ROM and it still happens while rooted running Cataclysm.
Also note, the SMS we miss never will come through, it's not as if later on the message comes through...It's gone forever. It also prevents calls from coming through, it's not just limited to SMS.

What worked for me was forcing 2G instead of 3G, hope it helps!

I get wifi calling working fine on my phone, but it just disappears and stops working after a few hours. Rebooting makes it work again.

Are you sure it's failing and what do you mean 'stops working'?
Do you try to place a call and it fails because WiFi calling is broken?
Or are you just watching the carrier name change off of WiFi calling? Because your phone will move off of WiFi calling if the signal strength is low enough and the strength of the cellular signal is higher.
The preference switch just dictates which to favor first over the other, it doesn't lock you to WiFi calling only.
Try walking closer to an access point and checking if WiFi calling comes back, that's what it does for me I move from outside with a weak WiFi signal to inside with a strong signal.
If that's the case then you'll need more access points in your house.

Where I am right now there is no cellular (offshore). I can also recreate the problem if I turn flight mode on and off. After I do that I can't do wifi call (the icon/text is gone and calls and texts are not working anymore). Kinda weird behavior tbh. It might be the wifi, but it was stable on my last phone. I can wait till I get home and try that wifi, but it's only here at work I need it

Try disabling MAC address randomization for the access point you are on, it defaults to enabled. It can cause issues if the DHCP lease time is low and your phone gets on and off the network, making it show up as a new device each time.
If it still is having issues then it might just be the network, a grocery store near me has filters and when you get on their guest WiFi you can place a call for a couple seconds before it kills the connection.

Disabling the MAC address randomization did the trick. Been on and stable since I turned it off. Thanks again
A new problem have emerged in this same topic.
Using the same phone, same sim, same wifi, same settings (disabled mac address randomization) the wifi calling won't activate at all now. Any idea what I can do to trouble shoot? Wifi calling is turned on and set to preffered.
