I have a Kobo Arc 7 HD that I was playing around with, and screwed it over.
My question is whether I can re-flash it if all I have access to is the adb sideload command. Is this even possible? Where do i get the image to flash onto it?
I just want to know if it will work even in theory, or i should stop trying to find a solution and toss it.
Currently it will boot to the home screen, but there is nothing there but the background, top bar and virtual keys. the top dropdown is completely empty, and the buttons respond to press, but do nothing. (the switch app button brings up a screen that says "no recent apps"). So thats a bust. When I plug it into my PC, it shows as a USB drive, and I see all the usual file structures.
I can get to the system recovery (vol down + power on), but factory reset / clear cache dosen't change anything.
I can do the update from adb sideload thing, but all of the images I have tried fail.
Thanks

Want to install the TouchFlo and Cube but don't want to use a custom flash?
1. Download the Original Flash release from T-Mobile.
Part 1
Part 2
2. Backup your device since the upgrade will erase any data in it. You can back it up to your memory card or computer.
3. If you are installing in a device with no modifications, hard reset (Press and hold both soft keys and press reset button, continue to hold soft keys until screen displays to hard reset. Press the call button to continue). If you need to install the original software, continue to step 3a
3a. Enter boot loader on your phone (Hold camera button and press reset, continue holding camera until a screen with 3 gradient colors shows up
3b. Connect your computer via USB to your ppc (Pocket PC)
3c. Run the*orignal RUU (software)*.exe from your hard drive, follow its simple onscreen instructions and click check boxes necessary to continue with the installation. This should take a few minutes, and you will more then likely see your screen flash and change things, this is normal, let it work. After a few minutes it will boot up and go into "automatic customization of your device", I continued this (screen alignment, tips, auto setup), and waited for my device to be totally ready for me to use.
4. Connect your device via USB to the PC and wait for it to connect. If it automatically pulls up a profile for your phones sync, delete that profile. If it asks again to setup the device for syncing items, click cancel. You will still be able to explore your phone and install devices without setting up the sync profile for your phone.
5. Make sure your phone is connected as a guest, if it is not, make sure it is. It should display as guest after the hard reset.
Download the modified OS (RUU)
Part 1
Part 2
6. Copy "Aserg policies.cab" to your mobile device
7. Run "Aserg policies.cab" from your device
8. Soft reset (use stylus for button on side of wing, or on bottom of herald)
9. Go into your Comm Manager on your phone, and disable "phone". Basically enter flight mode so nothing can be sent to your phone during this process.
10. Once booted, install the modified OS (with TouchFlo). Make sure you're still connected as guest, and run 1__Upgrade_rom.bat from*the modified OS*folder on your PC
11. This will bring up a command prompt waiting for you to hit a key to begin, press any key
12. During this time it is installing, NEVER touch your phone or play with it in any matter. It may look as though the command prompt has gotten hung up at times, but leave it run until it completes (or fails). your phone will pop up a message saying "unknown status" or the likes, but don't close that window, like I said just leave it alone.
13. If you have no error messages in the command dialogue box then you're ready to hard reset your phone. (press both soft keys, and press reset, continue holding soft keys until you see a dialogue asking if its okay to restore settings, hit the call button to finish it)
14. Your device SHOULD boot normally, go through setup, and you should be golden. If at any time there is an error during install, but you still let it complete, you might have a chance at it working. Hard reset it after completion (even with errors) just to see if it works. If it wont go past your T-mobile or HTC picture screen on boot up, then you have bricked your device. To un-brick it, run steps 3a through 3c and reinstall the RUU. If you get any errors, try and try again. Its proven working on several devices.

Guys,
I am really in a fix. It seems my HTC Diamond 2 is stuck at the first screen (all black with HTC written in grey). I cant access my phone book and the operations are extremely slow. I have tried doing the soft restart by pressing button next to the stylus. Please help. Also as yo may have guessed I am extremely basic in my knowledge of technical stuff so please try to keep it as basic as possible. Any Kind of Help will be appreciated.
I guess you could start off with taking out your battery... But I guess you already did that?
Same Issue
Hi, I'm having the same problem described above, but worse. I have an HTC Diamond 2. It stays at the logo screen (black screen with HTC letters in white). It doesn't pass anywhere from there. I've tried using the reset button on the back near stylus, tried the hard reset (Vol Up/Down + Power key) but it doesn't respond. There's an option that "works": If I press the 'call' key + power button, it shows an update menu with the following: 1. Update Logo 2. Update OS 3. Update Eboot 4. Format User Space 5. Return; none work except for the format user space option, but it does nothing.
I've tried also from the PC but it doesn't recognize the device via USB. I downloaded Active Sync, and an update wizard from HTC.com but still no success in recognizing the device.
Please help me, I need this phone to keep working, I don't know what triggered the problem..
My cousin managed to root his LG-C555, but then he deleted something in the core System, so now there's no Home Screen, no App short-cuts, no wallpaper, no access to settings, nothing but the pull-down bar at the top. He can turn on WiFi, BlueTooth, and USB Storage Mode, and that's it. Nothing else. Can't run any apps, can't access the system config, can't even make a phone call.
He tried a factory reset (using GREEN + RED + VOL_DWN) and all that did was restore what was left of the Android OS to it's previous, non-Rooted state.
So, my question is this: Is there a way to get the factory original ROM to come back -- or replace it somehow with a new image from USB Storage Mode, or is this phone history?
So, I dropped my phone the other day and the bottom portion of the screen does not work (neither the capacitive nor on-screen keys) but I'm able to use pie to navigate my phone. So I stupidly felt the need to update my rom and then realized that I cannot get back to the main screen in TWRP after wiping as the back and home keys are at the bottom of the screen (doh!). So I'm stuck in the wipe screen in TWRP. When I connect my phone to the computer it says "USB not recognized" and my phone doesn't show up so I can't do adb.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
don't care about your problem, but next time, make a title who reflecting your problem .... this "[Q]" is NOT a title ...
we have two S7's, non-edge, and they have been almost bulletproof to now. I have a rooted S5 but have not modded either S7. My wife dropped hers, no breaks in the glass but it came up black after briefly displaying a partial image.
I can force reboot it, and it works. the backup 'key' lights up at times, the LED's work, and the phone receives calls [rings] but of course we can't see a thing.
Is there a fix? I've tried the reset via Vol - Power, that works to restart but no display. I've done Vol+ Power, can't see a thing. Tried Vol - Pwr Home, can't see anything so not sure what the result was. Plugged into PC but without being able to grant permission on the device, no dice.
How can I force a backup of everything? or... it may be backed up to her google account but how to reach, sans S7 display?:silly:
Hi, you can try to access the phone via samsung find my mobile website. You need internet connection at the s7 working and the logon data of your samsung account. In find my mobile there is a backup option.
Regards
Oliver
Fabulous! Going to try now
Oliver, unfortunately she never setup a samsung account period. hard lesson.
Surely the forensics community has a way to get to the stored data.... I guess/think the only things missing, that were not on SD card or SIM, would be a few pictures stored in default local memory, a few downloads, and things that will not be restorable easily like Calendar entries [and a whole lot of app cache stuff that is not high value]... am I wrong?
But then there is the security aspect; even if I cannot fetch usable data, I need to nuke it all... Is there no way to mount those volumes on a pc or other? A universal "nuke everything on the blind" approach?
thank you for your help
I have also black/blank screen but all audio works, hardware buttons work. I can tap the screen and it makes a sound. Voice assistant turns on for some reason and she verifies the touches I make to the screen. She also verifies I am pressing on screen buttons. I also know this because I can turn the phone off using the power button, then on screen buttons, even though it's blank. So the screen does work, just noting visually. I have tried the power + volume down to no avail. I believe the battery has totally died as was also recommended. If anyone has an idea of what to do next...please help.
, I believe, and I'm going to try today, that we can get in Via download mode. So we'll set up adb, set the "blind" s7 in download mode and see if I can browse the file system
