[WARNING !] Nokia's "Here" maps draining battery and causing overheating ! - General Topics

I'm not sure if I posted this thread in the right forum, so please move it if it's needed, but I just wanted to let people know about this serious bug.
So, "Here" is obviously one of the best free offline navigation apps but there's a pretty serious bug that started occuring after the app went from beta to stable. The app keeps running in background after closing it, swiping it away from recent apps and even after force stoping it so it keeps heating up the phone drastically and also affecting the battery pretty hard. I've had this bug on 2 different phones so it's definitely not phone or brand related (it happened on my Sony Xperia V and also on Samsung Galaxy S4). The only solution for now is to use greenify and hibernate the app after using it, because just force stoping it doesn't work (it starts automatically again). You can go into your running apps and you'll probably see it there in active processes (I've just used it once to download maps and try it out a bit and it kept running 2 days non-stop). My Galaxy S4 was very hot and battery was also worse than before installing the app so that's how I found it out even though it didn't show up in battery usage information, but it did on my Xperia V so that's why I knew it was this app that was causing the problems. So I installed "Greenify", added Here app to the list and hibernated it. Now it doesn't automatically start and my phone never gets hot, not even warm.
I hope this information will help some of you who are using this app and having overheating and battery issues. :fingers-crossed:

[Q] Does Inactive Apps use battery in Android 2.1?

I got new Captivate two weeks ago and I didnt had any knowledge of Android before that. So as every noob does, I also got worried about my aweful battery and installed task killers. But I noticed that my phone started to lag. So after reading many articles and comments, I came to conclusion that I don't really need Task killer and Android is designed to stop all unwanted Apps itself (correct me if I am wrong here please)
So I thought to test something. I opened camera and then clicked back (not home key but back). The running apps in settings showed its not running, but in System Panel (as suggested by the author of one of the article) it shows Camera is still open but inactive.
So my question is, do these inactive but open apps consume bettery or affect performance?
My question may sound stupid, but I am really concerned about my battery not lasting more than 10 hrs.
If they use a lot of data and have constant updates then yes, they will consume a significant amount of battery. A moderatly simple app that is open but doesnt require data nor act frequently wont use a lot of battery at all. I still use a task killer, as android doesnt automatically "kill" on its own. You can avoid a lot of trouble by just turning off your mobile network when youre not using it; thats a great battery saver in general... good luck

Thanks for replying...
I have tweek to trun off my 3g and its never on. But at work I use Wifi to listen to online radio on my phone. So do I have to kill apps like TweetDeck, Facebook and Gmail, with Task killer? Even though I have disabled auto sync for these accounts.

[Q] Why do so many Apps restart after I use Advance Task Killer?

I'm currently running Infused 2.1 and noticing that my battery life is quite poor. I haven't used the phone much today but it's clearly draining faster than it was the last couple days when I was running stock Froyo. I have my brightness manually set all the way down, GPS is always off, Wifi is set to turn off when screen is off, no sync is active except 'Background Syncing' which apparently I have to keep on for the Marketplace. Only thing I've installed is Go Launcher EX but I can't imagine that this launcher would cause such a dramatic difference in battery. But I digress...
As to my question, I just ran Advanced Task Killer and killed everything running except ATK itself. I then waited maybe 20 seconds and upon launching ATK again, I noticed that I now have the following items listed. Why have all of the below items appeared again?
Facebook
Gmail
Market
YouTube
Google Search
Maps
Superuser
Kies air
WF & Clock widget

read this article so you will understand why you dont need a task killer with current android devices. if you search google or even youtube you will find many articles explaining how the os works
Interesting. Good read. So it seems like it's almost counter-productive to use these programs because I'll be honest, I've been using it just about every time before I lock the screen if I've done a bit of stuff on it. If it keeps reactivating these things to make the phone run faster, and I'm having it work harder by always killing them, then I can see that I might be contributing to the problem...

deep sleep on cm10

hi, i have an htc sensation 4g running cm10 jelly bean rom and i wanna know how to put my phone on deep sleep. im on bruce kernel 3.0.49. can some1 please help?
I believe the device should automatically go into sleep mode when not in use. I don't believe you have to do anything for this to occur. Make sure none of your applications are running on there own.go to settings, apps, running apps and see what's running. Leave system apps alone however if other than system apps are running you can close these apps. Just press on the app and a menu will pop up. The running apps other than system apps could prevent deep sleep. Make sure you don't shut down ANY system applications that are running. Those should be fine. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

If you're a little adventurous you can check out the Q&A thread about Bruce's ROM. Skipjacks and Tobitge have put together a list of processes to kill using system tuner (I think). The wakelocks are a known issue and perplexing to say the least. I am beginning to wonder however how big of battery drain they really are... I'm having pretty good results despite them.

does it improve battery life tho?
Yes it would if they could improve the wake lock situation. Check out as above thread suggested, they possibly know of a fix! Also have you considered a extended battery? Extended battery really helped my battery issues. But in this case it sounds like a known issue with something in the rom causing wake lock
This is where your drain is coming from. Check out the fix above. See if it helps.

This only helps with some specific Google Services wakelocks. The Android framework is causing some other wakelocks through the AlarmManager service (Not the same as the alarm clock). These wakelocks have proved very elusive to destroy.
The modifications to the google services framework that Tobitege and I worked out do seem to have some impact on battery life. But if you are a big user of Google Now or GTalk, these modifications are not for you as they break both of those services (mainly because those 2 services were 2 of the 3 main causes of Google wakelocks)
The thing with the battery drain because of these wakelocks is that they drain the battery during sleep, but that drain isn't being properly reported in the battery stats (this is an electrical physics problem related to how a slowly discharging power cell can give a false reading of voltage, not a software problem). So you'll have the phone in sleep for 3-4 hours and it will show no discharge despite constant wakelocks. But us the phone for 10 minutes and the battery quickly drops 15%. In reality it drained that 15% during sleep due to the wakelocks. The battery stats just weren't showing it right away.
Bruce did make some tweaks on 10/27 that have improved the Android inspired wakelocks noticably. But they are still there.

[Nexus 5] Optimizing apps at boot when device ran out of battery

Hi everyone,
I have a Google Nexus 5, that has never been rooted.
Nearly each time my phone is running out of battery (meaning nearly every day because I am using Waze, a GPS app, quite often), when Android is starting a message saying "Optimizing 1 of x.. apps" and this take a lot of time (sometimes more than 10 minutes).
Do you know what is causing this issue and how to solve it?
It happens since I upgraded to a previous version of Android but I don't remember which one as is it not the latest one.
Now, my phone is running Android 5.1.1 build LMY48M.
Thanks a lot.
Can't solve your problem, but I will add some information and a test suggestion:
I have a Nexus 7 (2013) Tablet which was recently updated to Lollipop 5.1.1.
Not surprisingly, right after the update, the tablet went through the exact same app optimization process (no surprise there).
Although the tablet was charged and in 'Sleep Mode' last night, I woke up this morning to find the tablet powered off (which I considered strange).
Upon powering it back on, it went through the same app optimization process that you have described.
I considered the possibility that a software update had been applied to the tablet last night which did not require my permission (but that seems unlikely).
Then I wondered if the battery had somehow become depleted and that the app optimization process was a function of the power loss and subsequent restart.
In the Windows environment, an 'ungraceful' shutdown leads to a boot option to start the computer in 'Safe Mode'.
And I had considered the possibility that one or more Android processes or 3rd party apps might have triggered the requirement for app optimization upon restart.
This is what led me to your post.
However, I have now let the battery drain two times, with two subsequent restarts -- and I am not getting the app optimization.
So, I'm not sure what the trigger is -- but I have a suggestion for a test:
Restart your device so it is fresh
Do not start any applications or Android processes (other than those that start themselves)
Leave the device on so that the battery fully drains (you might want to accelerate the process by maximizing the screen brightness)
After the device shuts down due to battery loss -- charge it
Restart the device and see if app optimization happens
If it does not happen -- them maybe your app optimization is related to an ungraceful shutdown of one or more Android processes or 3rd party apps
If it does happen -- then I don't know what's going on
However, we can't ignore the fact that your device is a phone and mine is a tablet
And, therefore, your device always has processes running that might represent an ungraceful shutdown upon battery depletion.
Of course, this does not answer the question relating to the problem I witnessed this morning
But maybe I had too many apps open and too many browser tabs open when my battery depleted (although I still don't know why my battery depleted)
And maybe that triggered my own app optimization
There is one more thing: yesterday, for the first time, I ran an app on the tablet called Slingbox Player
That's the only thing different that I have done on the tablet for many months
And the Slingbox Player was open in the background when I went to sleep
I suppose a badly coded app could have drained my battery
But that still leave the question regarding the app optimization requirement upon restart
Please share your findings.

Few Sony Xz problems [ need help]

Hello, members!
I updated my sony about month ago to new android version Oreo (Android 8.0) and at first i was happy that Sony made an update, but when i started to work more with this version day to day i found that there are things that i dont like!
First thing with apps and folders
Apps like Facebook and Massenger all the time show @ app that i have notification (number on the app) and when i open it there is not any notification for me! Apps all the time showing me the same number of notifications on app but there is nothing in it.
Started to search it, maybe somewhere it is - but there is nothing! I deleted apps and install it again - but it show me all the time the same!
I am tired with this thing - i know it is small problem but in my day to day work it is seriously.
Second thing - Guys what we can do with high phone temperature ? Phone is overheating sometimes when i using it and i am not playing games! It getting uncomfortable hot!
Third thing - When phone getting low energy (about 30%) it is automaticly turn on battery saver! Of course phone start to go slow. In setting i can turn off battery saver but it still are slow because i am more than sure that battery saver is still on, but in settings it is off! when i plug charger to phone it starts to work Great!
Can we do something with these things?
P.s. I think it is to many problems for Sony mobile - i was using a lot of Sony phones but about now starting to think change Sony to something else...better!
Hi, I have updated to Oreo as well. Not experiencing the overheating issue. I upgraded to this handset from Galaxy S4 i9507 and that one used to get hot. Maybe try disabling some apps after checking what is using the battery. Maybe you have a sneaky app which is using a lot of CPU.
Generally, this version (second version of Oreo) is a bit slower than Nougat, particularly camera operation. I am seriously considering rooting if I can be sure that DRM and camera will be preserved.
Try factory resetting the device, that tends to solve most of the issues after a big update. Also if your Play services version is 11.7.46 make sure to update to 11.9.51 via apkmirror as the former is confirmed to drain battery.

1. I don't suffer from this issue perhaps try updating your Xperia home launcher
2. The phone does heat up from time to time , all electronics follow the same principle
Electronics will heat up
3. Stamina mode is actually disabled just as it says on the settings, the reason the phone is slow because there is not enough power to be supplied as the demand for performance increases
When power is low your phone struggles to deliver optimal power to performance ratio
To make sure that the phone able to last throughout the day so that you don't miss any calls ,
Performance is decreased in favor for battery runtime
