It doesn't support AC3 audio format
You have to use Custom Codec!
use custom codec.
Where would I find the custom codec for AC3? I already have the recommended MX Player Codec installed (ARMv7 NEON).

Thanks, but that download is several versions behind the one on Google Play Store. Will its codecs replace the newer ones, or simply add to them where they are missing? I'd hate for the videos that currently work properly to cease working (as mentioned in one of the replies).
Just follow the leader, you wont be versions behind, it works perfectly.
There you can find how to add it.
Nobody here is having problems with it.

Hi guys,
I´ve been using MX Player (which I really like) but it doesn´t play DTS. Is there any free apps that support DTS? I´ve read somewhere that there was some legal issues regarding DTS support and android.
diceplayer can play it
you can add the DTS codec to MX Player yourself.
just follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34649108#post34649108

I was searching the play store with "ac3 codec", but they all seem to be connected to a specific application. Can you provide a link for one?
Thanks

Read the mx player custom codec sticky thread in this support forum. It has support for all codecs incl dts & ac3
I try to view some movies with AC3 sound on my Wiko Stairway (Cortex-A7 processor).
I have installed the different Arm v7 Codecs using Google Play but MX Player keeps telling me that AC3 is not supported
Can anyone help me?
AC3 support was dropped due to licensing issues.
Install the custom codec, as it supports AC3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/mx-player/mx-player-custom-codec-dts-support-t2156254

Thanks. I looked at the thread.
Like I said, I downloaded the MX Player Codecs offered on Google Play (by J2 Interactive).
The codecs proposed on the thread seem to be the same.
Arm v7-Neon
Arm v7-Tegra3
Arm v7-Tegra2
I tried the codecs for Arm v7-Neon and Tegra 2 available on Google Play and they did not work.
Aren't/shouldn't the codecs available on Google Play be the same as those available on this forum?
Not sure which should work for my phone.

No, Google Play means no AC-3.
"Arm v7-Neon" and others are names of cpu architecture. You should use one that matches yours. See thread that was linked for instructions on how to check this...
As vivan000 has said, the Google Play codecs are not the same thing; they are for video decoding. The linked thread is specifically an external audio codec, that will give you support for AC-3 and other audio formats. You must follow that thread's instructions to install it.
mpeg2video has broken in last version of MX Player Pro 1.9.5. It reports "This video format (mpeg2video) is not supported".
MX Player Pro 1.9.5 ARMv7 Neon was installed from Google Play.
Hello,
My MX Player Pro was updated to 1.9.5 from Play Store.
Since the update, I cannot play any MPEG2 videos.
Before the update all .mpg, .ts and .REC video files worked fine.
Now I get "This video format (mpeg2video) is not supported."
(well, mine is in finnish but it translates to that)
Is this a bug or planned issue?
My player is ARMv7 NEON on Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 & Samsung Galaxy S7
Have you tried using the custom codec from the codecs thread?

No, not yet.
Actually, for years I have just been using MX Player without any problems and without knowing about any custom codecs.
All my files has been standard mpeg2, mpeg4 or h264 stuff so nothing custom about them at all.
All these including mpeg2 have been working fine for years now.
So maybe I will need to look in to those.
mpeg2video not supported
After upgrading MX Player to 1.9.6 at Samsung S5Neo the .ts files recorded at Synology from DVB-T cannot be played. It says "mpeg2video not supported". Same applies to the DVB-T live stream.
Use custom codec.
You also started a duplicate thread.

can you collect a bug report & share with us?
Hi,
I have just downloaded the codes suggested it the above link. The video works perfectly now. Thanks for the help and info

So is this really the way things work with MX Player Pro from now on?
I must use custom codec to watch mpeg2 decoded videos and for every new update of MX Player I will need to get new custom codec?
I updated the MX Player Pro yesterday to 1.9.8 (I think it was 1.9.5) and now the custom codec (1.9.0) that I have won’t work with it.

Goodbye MX Player
I won't be using this app anymore. I need mpeg2. Period.
No reason to have this app without it.
No time to root my android tablet or play little games with codecs.
It used to to a good job, now it is just a vegetable.
Goodbye

Even with the custom codec I am still having compatibility issues that I never had before this change with MPEG2 files - audio pauses and subsequent desync, anybody else showing similar?
Just playing DVB-T recordings.
I know AC3 is supposed to be built in, but I'm always getting that it's not supported. Is there a specific setting I need to check?

currently, audio pass-through works when there is no internal decoder is available.
In future versions, we will add an option to prefer audio passthrough over internal decoders.

Your page says: "With the latest update our App now supports AC3 audio by default (no custom codec needed). "
But on Mibox I get "AC3 is not supported". What do you suggest? MX Player Custom Codec?
AC3 audio on MX Player PRO on Android TV at Philips POS 9002 doesn't work in 5.1.
It detects dolby digital but plays only in 2.0 (on custom codecs and withouth them - passthrough)
DTS works like a charm but Dolby digital not.
MX Player suport...please do something with this issue.
Best regards
