Anyone having a problem where they try to start a conversation with a person and it starts it with someone different. Never had this problem with the app until this phone.
I'm having the same issue. Driving me nuts.
I'm getting automated alerts from T-Mobile (Their "456" number) that shows up as my girlfriend's name/picture. This could be a potential issue.
Yep, I had this happen the other night. Started a new message and sent. After it sent it showed another contact's name. Not cool.
Yes, i'ts horrible. I've confirmed with my friend. Seems to only be the Galaxy S6. I've switched to Textra until they fix it. Any idea what can cause this?
Just another reminder to stay away from Messenger until this gets fixed.
I just had a situation where I tried to send a message to one friend (contact A) and it ended up going to someone else (contact B). After sending, in the message view, contact B's photo was showing up next to the message, but the name of another person (contact C) was in the top bar of the message view. In the inbox view, contact C's name and photo were used. So yeah, right now this app is kind of a mess.
On my edge I've had it happen where I get a message from ATT and it showed as one of my buddies.
But I have not had it happen where I started a convo with one person and it appear as anothet.

Happening on my phone (Nexus 4) too.
The same on note 5
My ATT's Note 5 has the same issue. It didn't seem to happen until just recently. For now this app is useless for me.

I seem to have a weird problem with the Messages app from HTC. Searched all over the internet and XDA and nobody else seems to have reported the issue.
The issue is, if I go into the Messages app, the list shows all contacts names fine. But for some contacts, if I click into them, it shows the message history, but on top where it's supposed to show the name, instead shows their phone number, minus any separators, and a ">" symbol at the end.
Say, for example, a contact in the Messages app is John Doe. I see John Doe in the messages list, then when I click into it, instead of name it goes to, say, 15555555555>, and sometimes the whole thing is just black.
On the bottom where I write reply, the number shows up fine exactly as it's formatted in the actual contact info.
But if I try to reply there, when I click "Send", the keyboard disappears, but the message never gets sent, and this happens no matter how many times I try to reply or type the message again. As long as it's a reply, it doesn't work. But starting a new message to the same contact works just fine, but it's annoying to have to type the whole message, then copy and paste, and start a new message to the contact just to reply.
And it wouldn't be inconsistent formats either. Some numbers I have in both Google and Phone, I can delete all phone numbers except the Google one in the problem contact and issue persists. Some contacts have the number laid out the same way in (xxx) xxx-xxxx as the problem contact, and still works. I can change the problem contacts' phone number format to xxxxxxxxxx or 1xxxxxxxxxx and neither fixes anything.
I've tried pulling the battery, turning off fast boot and pulling battery, restarting, all the same result.
And this ONLY happens with the stock Messages app, all the other SMS apps I downloaded off the Market works just fine.
Any help would be appreciated, it's starting to drive me nuts.
Thanks!
I have noticed something odd about the stock messaging as well. In the text box where you type, some contacts display a phone number in the top of the box, while some do not. I don't know what causes it. I thought it was the way that HTC Sense sync'd to FB, but that didn't change anything.

I think it may have something to do with the Select Contact Name option when you edit a contact. Say I have a two phone numbers and an email address for Bob. Once I set "Bob" as the contact name for his entry, that it what appears when I start composing messages to him.
I hope this helps.

I can confirm the issue, so at least you're not the only one. But in my case it went away on its own sometime between temp rooting and unsuccessful over clocking
I posted this a week or so, I don't know if it helped the last person. but I had this EXACT problem and it was unbelievably frustrating when I first got this and after a few days of searching and banging my head against the wall, I found something that worked. This problem arised when I had double contacts from my messaging and I tried to rectify it. Eventually I got it all to work fine.
This is how you solve it (or how I solved mine).
1: Sync everything to Google. Edit the contact list in google (use the automatic duplicate deletion), delete useless contacts etc.
2. Remove contacts from EVERYWHERE. Sim card, phone, uncheck google sync. Your phone should then be completely empty for contacts.
3. Re-sync with google contacts. if you want you can copy it back to the SIM and you shouldn't get doubles. I think I just left it with google only but the end result is I don't have 9 different "danny's" show up when I go to compose new message because I know three of them.
This issue is bugging me too...
After experimenting today I have figured out why it is happening; any contact I have with an email address within the contact details I get the name followed by the mobile number within the HTC stock message app... Any contacts without an email address are fine.
I have experimented by removing an email address from the contact and straight away the said contact will display correctly in the HTC message app.
Unfortunately I have not yet figured out how to have contacts with phone numbers and email addresses display correctly. Real shame as loving my new Sensation... a minor niggle I guess
Tgis has happened to my phone once, but rectified itself with a soft-reset. It hasn't happened again since then. Not much help here, but its definitely not an isolated incident.

Yes, This happened with me too.... But after i synchronised my accounts with my HTC and google contacts.... it was all sorted out...i was just thinking of hard reset.... but i was saved Try it once...
Hey guys. I'm using hangouts but this happens with any SMS program. My phone vibrates as if I received a text, but the text never appears. Ex: earlier my girlfriend texted me, the phone vibrated, but I never saw the text and it's not there.
I've tried updating PRL and Profile, switching sms programs, everything I can think of. Is anyone else having this problem.
Using Cataclysm btw.

Try deleting all sms apps, except ie. Hangouts. Make sure Hangouts is configured to receive textmessages. Send a message to your phone and check which app gives you a notification.
You can also try sms backup and restore app to see if there are any textmessages on your phone.
Tried all that but thanks! Just did the backup and there's no messages that aren't in my sms program. Frustrating
Has anyone else had this problem occur?

question: are most of the texts you look to receive, coming from apple iphones?
Apple's Revenge: iMessage Might Eat Your Texts If You Switch To Android
"When my best friend upgraded from an iPhone 4S to a Galaxy S4, I texted her hello. Unfortunately, she didn't get that text, nor any of the five I sent in the following three days. My iPhone didn't realize she was now an Android user and sent all my texts via iMessage. It wasn't until she called me about going to brunch that I realized she wasn't getting my text messages. What I thought was just a minor bug is actually a much larger problem. One that, apparently, Apple has no idea how to fix. Apple said the company is aware of the situation, but it's not sure how to solve it. One Apple support person said: 'This is a problem a lot of people are facing. The engineering team is working on it but is apparently clueless as to how to fix it. There are no reliable solutions right now — for some people the standard fixes work immediately; many others are in my boat.'"
No, no one this is happening with has an iPhone or ever did. All pure android accounts. And I sure as heck never had an iPhone
Try it with another SIM card in your phone and put your card in another phone, heck, just switch cards with your girlfriend's phone and see what happens
I am having an issue where a contact of mine is occasionally receiving a different text message from me than the one I send. They will receive half of my intended message, but the last few words will be replaced with a portion of a text that I sent a long time ago. This happens at least once a week. Let me give a quick example to show what I mean:
Example:
Text message I send to contact - "Hello how are you today? What do you think of all the snow in New York?"
Text message my contact receives - "Hello how are you today? What do ycostume for Halloween this year?"
Where "costume for Halloween this year?" will be a portion of a text I sent a month ago.
This happened on my Galaxy S3, and I just recently switched to a OnePlus One so I'm fairly certain its not my device. I called my carrier and they have never heard of this happening before, nor did they see anything wrong with my account. I only experience this with this contact, and they only experience this with me.
Would that mean it's my contact's phone? They have an Xperia Z1 and are using Textra SMS.
Has anyone heard of this happening before? How can I get rid of this problem?
Any solution?
This has happened twice now. The first time I thought it was a fluke, now a second time in two days I am getting concerned. I am using Google Messenger for SMS/MMS. The problem is that somebody sends me a text message and I reply to their message. My reply goes to a completely different person and the original sender never receives my reply. These are not group messages, just a single SMS.
Anybody else having this issue? I will have to switch back to my Nexus 6 if this keeps happening.
Known bug. Use Hangouts for SMS until it's fixed.
I got a text from amazon that my packaged was shipped at it showed coming from my brother. I too am using messenger. I don't like hangouts...
Yep same here, it's broken. I would say use Textra for a similar feel to messenger. Hangouts is broken too, but in a different way. It will send photos sideways if you use the paper clip in a message thread. If you use the share function in gallery it will send it fine.
I have been using Google Messenger since it came out on two other devices and have never experienced this issue until using it on the S6. I have found if I clear the app data for Messenger messages show up from the correct sender temporarily. WTF?
I came here to post something similar. I set up my dad's S6 the other day, and today he told me that if he goes into the Contacts app, selects a contact, and hits the text icon, it picks the wrong contact to send to. I tried this on numerous contacts, and it happens on all of them. If he adds them manually to a message through the Messenger app, this doesn't happen. Bizarre bug. Any ideas?
Happened again yesterday. A coworker sent me a text and it showed up from a completely different person. Guess I have to back to hangouts for now ugh...
Recurring Problem
I highly doubt the problem will be fixed soon. This bug has been blatant in all Samsung products I have had since 2007; however, it happens somewhat seldom and slightly random and the only idea I have for reproduction is:
Receive a message from person A
Read message from person A
Receive message from person B.
Open message from person B while still in the thread with person A's SMS.
reply to person B.
Watch as person A reads your reply to person B and person B never gets anything.
I'm not sure if this always reproduces it, but when I saw this happen AGAIN with my new S6 I was instantly reminded of my past with Samsung products - even prior to Android.
Same Issue--- Almost 2018 Now
I use a fully updated LG RIsio (low grade phone I know), and and the latest version of FB Messenger app for SMS. Several times in the past few months I have constructed a text for a recipient, with the intended recipients name on display as a write, hit send, and suddenly the completed text is sent to a seemingly random contact in my phone, and the deed is done.
This is insane. How do I stop this. I am gripped with the fear of something incriminating going to a family member or a coworker or manager. Why am I not hearing more about this in 2017? Most of the posts on it are from 2010. Did it never get fixed? Did it come back?
Please advise. This is the kind of oversight that can potentially ruin lives and merit a class action lawsuit.
For some reason I am not receiving all text messages . Random texts will not show up on my phone even though they show sent on the other person's phone. Getting frustrating bc I have missed some important texts. I googled the problem and it there was an article from 2 days ago about the issue without a fix available. FYI I am on the TMobile Galaxy S8+ ....anyone else experience this issue? Anyone know of a fix?
i doubt its the phone its probably a bug on your account from tmo
We need to get this to thread going. It's a big discussion topic on Reddit and articles are showing up on Android sites.
I'm with Telus in Canada. I've been using the Android Messages app. I have no idea how many texts I'm not getting but there's one friend who's asked me a couple of times if I got their text and I've said no. I've seen screenshots from them that show the texts they sent. That person actually uses an S7 with default Samsung Messages app.
There's another case today where my kid's school sends messages to parents via both text and email. I always get their messages twice. Once via text, the other via email. Today I only got an email message, so clearly it's not just texts from one person not getting through.
Just received some texts from two days ago. Not all texts, but the last few that never showed up. Maybe something is getting fixed?
As of yesterday I still have been missing some texts daily
Did you recently switch from iPhone? Sometimes iMessage messes up senders that use an iphone, and you wont get it.
On the flipside, though, there does seem to be an issue with texting anyways, or MMS. Like the videos look like ****, or, I have even seen messages that delayed WEEKS come through. For example, my wife uses Handcent, I use Samsung Message app. Over a month ago, my brother in law sent her a pic of our dog, which she forwarded to me...but I didn't get it until a month later, when she accidentally opened the stock messages app, instead of the Handcent app she usually uses. Then, I got all the damn replies a month late from the related group messaging.
This was happening to me weeks ago so is nothing new. Unsure why it's suddenly become such a worldwide issue in the last few days.
I've tried every SMS app going as well as the stock one and it doesn't matter which I use. The messages still didn't arrive.
My S8+ was bought factory unlocked in the UK and it's on the 3 network.
This definitely exists. I have narrowed my issue to long text messages that would be split into 2 or more. I have since switched to the Android Messaging app and no longer have the issue..... I would try it...
My issue existed with the native Samsung Messenger app.
