Root - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

Does anyone know if this is going to work for the Verizon S6?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/orig-development/cf-auto-root-t3056630

I'm not sure, but it's been reported that it will. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to root the device. If it trips knox then it will probably break the tap and pay functionality and now that Samsung has come up with a secure phone that's easy to use I may actually use that feature.

Thats only for non branded and unlockable phones. It will not work on verizon varient

i am always preaching to folks that say root wont happen and i have always been right BUT take a look at the Note 4 HERE where since release it has raised around $15,000 in pledges for root and nothing has happened.
i am a believer but starting to feel it may be doubtful for the US versions at least.

if root is obtained it is likely that an Xposed Module will be created to get the Pay working even with root as it has worked for me in the past on the Note 3 with Softcard.
root has to come first then the solutions to things like this are generally much easier than root itself

A root bounty thread has been started.

[Q] [Poll] Did you choose to root/flash your S6?

So the security system KNOX and the mobile payment system Samsung Pay has started the controversial debate about rooting/flashing your new S6/S6 Edge..
While we still are months (years?) away from a fully working system and large merchants adapting the system, it is still a very valuable and kind of cool feature to have on your phone.
But when you're browsing the forums you see custom ROMs and mods that could further power your S6 to unlock it's full potential and with root you can of course modify your Android experience to just the way you want it.
We have also yet to see a release date for other countries than the US and China. I live in Sweden and doubt I will see Samsung Pay working here since the magnetic terminals rarely can be used because of the chip-security VISA and MasterCard require.
The question still resides.. Is it worth tripping KNOX and losing Samsung Pay, which might never even come to your country (or at least not in 1-2 years), for unlocking Androids full power and the S6 full potential?
To flash or not to flash, that is the question...
I'd love to root, but it's not available for my version yet. I'm also not clear on what Samsung Pay does for me that's better than Google Wallet.

Samsung Pay uses MST technology in addition to NFC, meaning that you can pay with your phone virtually anywhere credit cards are accepted.

Whaaaat?? How does that work? How will it work with an old-fashioned magnetic card swipe reader? Crazy.

It emulates an magnetic field that works exactly as you should swipe your card.
That makes my head spin.
I rooted. I have no desire to pay with my phone.
So do we know 100% that root definitely kills the option for Samsung Pay? Or that with Knox tripped it will negate Samsung Pay? I've read about here and there but I guess I haven't quite seen if someone actually tried to use the pay after root and it didn't work?

I'm sorry, you must've missunderstood me.. I didn't mean to have any attitude. I was mainly trying to get confirmation if there were any official statement from Samsung since I don't know if there is any..
No problem, guess I took it the wrong way too. It was just how it was written the "though?"
Anyhow, I have rooted (between my wife and I) our last 8+ phones so naturally I am looking to root the S6 when we get one, just wanted to find out for sure if it made things worse. I suppose if I am not going to use Sam Pay then it wouldn't matter. I just would rather not lose options or features. I did see a thread of a DEV that claims to have achieved root without tripping KNOX. Not sure if it will make it's way to us or not.

Same here! Always been rooting the phones, when you have the option of complete flexibility with the OS, why not?
Yea, better to have the possibility of the feature, even if one will use it or not, than to lock yourself out directly, hopefully that Dev has found a way and if so it won't be long time before it gets to us.
Also, since installing Nova Launcher Prime I haven't really had the need to root it since the phone is blazing fast and you can you hide away the apps you don't use/want to see in the drawer.

Is a root method without tripping knox feisable?

I know i may get some slack for this post but is it realistically possible that someone could find a root method that doesnt trip knox. My last device was a note 3 so i havent followed whether the s5, note 4 or s6 have acheived this. I like the idea of samsung pay (even though im in the beta and it doesnt work with my car) and im hoping it works with my card once the app is public. I cant live with a phone that cant run a custom rom but if i at least have root i feel like i could manage. So am i just being stupid and say screw samsung pay or is their a real possiblity that someone could find root without the knox trip.

It only works for Bank of America or US Bank cards now I believe although there is support for Amex, Visa and Mastercard. They will probably be up and running once Samsung Pay is officially launched on the 28th. I can tell you this. Samsung Pay is a battery hog. It runs all the time unlike Google Wallet that you open when you need it. And the way you unlock your phone is tied into Samsung Pay. For example, if you select fingerprint scanner for Samsung Pay it automatically becomes the lockscreen default to unlock the phone. So if you want a pattern to unlock your phone you have to change it in Samsung Pay to unlock the device. You can't have both. Well at least when I tried you couldn't. LoL
I dont think enough devs have a note 5, i would guess something may come out of another phone maybe and translate over. I'm in the same boat, my n3 was rooted right away once I was convinced sprint wasnt going to deny a warranty claim over knox. I'm kinda holding out for s pay, but if it sounds like a bunch of brain damage....
Actually just thought of something, I use drive through and eat at bars and restaurants a lot, not keen on handing my phone to someone, probably gonna pass on s pay...

Im guessing no one else has found any data to support this. I would assume someone would be talking about it by now....but, it seems development is kinda slow (absolutely no disrespect intended) or the possiblity is people who want root are not concerned about knox so there hasnt been alot of interest. From what i can tell though is kingroot was for earlier devices and doesnt even work on an updated note 4 let alone a 5. Someone tell me im wrong. Im offereing 20 bucks for a root method. lol i know thats weak but maybe other people will join me. Thanks to anyone that looks into this.

why not just trip the knox and use google pay or other services out there? for me rooting and being able to customize and overclock is the priority than samsung pay..ill just use google pay instead
Having to switch kernals everytime i need to use gearvr is whats kinda stopping me. Also i thought android pay now detects all root even "systemless"

S7 and S7 Edge Root

How soon do you think it could take someone or anyone to gain root on the S7 or S7Edge? I'm in no hurry but down the road say a month or 2 after the release if there is a root I would like to try. I have a Note 4 and after I root I lost Knox. I wonder if that will happen this time around.

I guess the same applies for the GS7.
I would just like root to remove some of the bloat. I have heard that they didn't mess with the OS as much as they have in the past. I would like to be able to use Samsung/android pay, also be nice if someone could enable the adaptable storage of Marshmallow, can't believe they disabled that.

It does. Make no mistake, root on the S7 = tripping Knox. Personally, this doesn't bother me, but if people are buying this phone hoping they can have root and maintain the Knox flag, especially those in territories that support Samsung Pay, they will be disappointed.
root would be great, unfortunately I bought the Verizon version knowing I'll never get root, like my poor note 4 here who all i can do is use a debloater script ?

Was the s6 rooted without tripping knox?
To begin with it was. But then Samsung published an update and closed the exploit that allowed it.
I just want root and don't care about tripping Knox because in Britain and the rest of the E.U it's illegal for them to cancel the warranty just for rooting.
The annoying thing is getting root normally requires a phone wipe. Until Android catches up and all apps are backed up, this is a huge pain

Only if the bootloader is locked. It's the unlocking of the bootloader, which is required to root the phone, which wipes the phone, not the rooting process itself.
In the UK Samsung phones never come with a locked bootloader (to my knowledge anyway, at least none of mine have) so rooting never involves wiping the phone thankfully.

No Samsung Pay/Some other services. No warranty in some areas.
I'm personally holding out for a bit before I root. On S5 ways were discovered to root/flash without tripping Knox. A solution for S7 as far as I know is like what happened on S6 were a dev bootloader was leaked/released.
I've only just got device so going to wait a month or two and if nothing arises and there is something worth rooting for I will root again.
Is someone woking on it tho?

This was because we had a older kernel on the s5 where the actual hacking method without tripping knox worked. So we could flash old kernel, root and than get the new kernel back. This isn't possible here

LOL. The Android developers whose work you see here on XDA are as smart / capable as anyone hacking Apple. If there is is a way to do it, they'll figure it out. But Samsung really locked down the S7, so it's not going to be easy even for "iPhone hackers."

They are developers who focus on rooting Android devices, not just application developers. Are you new to this forum? Some of the smartest "hackers" (if you prefer that term) are here, and they've found exploits for many, many Android phones that were supposedly locked down by the manufacturers. My last phone was an LG, and one of the incompetent "developers" here developed Stump and Bump, giving us root and recovery.
Jailbreaking an iPhone is no harder than finding root exploits for modern Android phones. You sound like an Apple fanboy.

Root will happen
(If not I'll be suprised)
Look at s7 edge (exynos) if you want to have the approximate method.
Once twrp is released, I bet around the beginning of Mai, you will be able to install it using Odin (breaks knox, s pay, etc)
From there you'll be able to flash whatever you want (magisk, SuperSU, etc)
Edit:
Although I just stumbled over this:
Quote:
Finally, the Exynos 8895 also includes what Samsung is calling an “enhanced security sub-system with a separate security processing unit” for use with user authentication, mobile payments, and the like. Based on Samsung’s description this sounds a heck of a lot like Apple’s Secure Enclave, which would be a very welcome development, as in Apple’s case it has made their phones a lot harder to break into.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/11149/...-8895-soc-10nm
yeah, saw on their website that encryption layers are going to be a lot stronger. I still think it'll be cracked. It's a large enough phone. just might take longer than normal.

geez the phones not even out yet. Gotta give the devs time to get there hands on the phone, then time to actually find a way to root it.
Would it be wise to right off the bat unenable automatic downloads of "Security Update: Improves Performance and Battery" in case someone finds a way to Root and they slip in an irreversible Firmware Update?
I bought this phone knowing it's going to be at least a year before at minimum root being achieved
if at all ,so I'm not getting my hopes up at all
This phone might be the straw the breaks the developers backs
I only needed a rooted phone for ARU unchained anyway ,but since the area51 got it to work unrooted
I can afford to wait

I hear you, preference I guess, I just like being up to date. I find that sometimes you are unable to use certain features without the updates.
I have the note 4 myself, and the only update that was a problem with that phone was MM, you could not downgrade from it. I have the AT&T variant so, no root access, and the current temp root that they have listed on the forums is not viable because your only temp rooted on experimental testing firmware.
The main feature you'll be missing out on is Bixby most likely, idk how good it will be or how bad, but you'll be behind that, apparently Bixby is not finished yet, and will not be shipped with the phone, at least not the complete version.

Haha, Buzby (as I call it) is the one INTRUSION I do NOT want!! Never asked for it, just forced upon us. This would be great, but I suspect the Phone already has Bixby embedded into it, what with all the hype (publicity for it) about it not functioning at launch I believe is a marketing ploy to bring attention to it. The part that is not being made available at launch is their end, nothing to do with needing an update for it to work (for those who blindly want it).
See, you watch, they will make such a big deal, like a major announcement when it is made to function and they "switch on their Bixby servers" it'll be posted all over the web like when the Note 7 fiasco (supposedly) happened.
Stop for second. And think. THINK. For yourself. That right there is invaluable advice. Bixby is not your friend.
