Why would you want temp root? Perm root doesn't affect your ability to take an OTA. There's a thread with plenty of opinions on which ROM is best pinned at the top of the general section.
Lol you've created four threads in the space of a few hours, you could have just asked all of your questions in one thread.

This may be a stupid question, but I have no knowledge when it comes to rooting except for a few questions that were answered in another thread. Last I knew, you couldn't do the one click root method on 2.3. Is it possible that this will change? If so, how would we know?

Rooting is in the rom not the phone so why go through all the hassle of one click, if you search a little there are many, many answers to your ?.... nvflash cwm recovery and bam! thats it flash any rom you want 99% of the roms you flash are rooted thus your phone will be rooted.
i recently had to flash to the kitkat update loosing my root.
is there a way to root kitkat?
No, and this is not the place to post that.
How is it possible you have been a member for two years yet you are stupid enough to post that here? Read the damn rules mate this is ridiculous.
Also to answer you question, with the veil of ignorance you seem to live under I doubt there is root on KitKat for you.

lol quick post wasnt paying attention all i saw was g2 att and thats what i have so i posted this question.
holy calm down bro... People make mistakes. I spilled coffee on myself this morning are you going to freak out on me too?
Meh, I took my aggravation on my unreliable internet connection out on you. If you are updated to KK already there is no way to root, you need to downgrade via LGFlash and then root before taking the KK OTA to keep root.
ioroot is working for KK now

Thanks for the link. I will read up on it. That's too bad that we can't install custom recovery yet. I wanted an aosp Rom ?
Would you suggest downgrading? Or would that mess up something? Not recommended?

the way things are right now there may never be a recovery for stock kit kat so if you want aosp then yes I recommend downgrading to 10d here is a link on how(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476)
I myself wanted stock kk with custom recovery so I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2672931 just in case you want kk with root/recovery which is currently the only way

Hi guys,
I want to root my OPO, but I need a little help about proceeding after rooting.
Can someone leave suggestions for ROM and custom Kernel?

If I root my phone and stay on this factory CM, will I receive OTA updates?
Yes, as long as you're running CM11S you'll still get OTA updates.

Hi,
Ive had the OPO for over a year. Im wondering if i should root and install a custom rom. Are there real benefits in performance and stability? Is it a must to root it?
Thanks.
Stock ROMs are stable enough, customs are too, performance is of course better with aftermarket kernels, custom ROMs have more features, yes it is necessary to root and unlock bootloader for that kind of stuff. Root isn't necessary but unlocked bootloader is

Well I'm now on COS13 I don't have root and I think I don't need it
Everything works great

With sultan's ROM you can't do anything wrong. It's know to have very good camera quality and very good battery usage
Hi. Bought a used d850, got a few questions.
I'm running lollipop 5.0.1. Is there any way to upgrade to marshmellow without an at&t sim? If no, what's the best way to get a sim if I'm located in canada?
Secondly, how do I go about rooting this thing? How stable is the most stable marshmellow rom that exists for the phone?
Cheers.

CyanogenMod is your best bet for stability now and no you don't need a sim card. Just Google rooting 5.0.1 and once rooted your good to flash CyanogenMod 6.0, you HAVE TO FLASH 6.0 GAAPS with it as well. Google all this and you'll do well, good luck!

Got a bunch of outdated results when I googled "rooting d850 5.0.1", any chance you can link me to an up to date guide?
Also, how stable is the latest cyanogenmod 6.0 when compared to stock android 5.0.1 that I'm running right now? How stable is cyanogenmod compared to lg based roms? What's the most stable lg based rom?
Also, some other questions. Is the d850 missing any features that the other lg g3 variants have? How do I go about making those features work?
Well I'm on an lgg3 850 running CyanogenMod 6.0 it's stable. If you like stock rom then stay with stock. Not sure if you could OTA without a sim card though.

No there is not sadly. Cheapest way is a go phone sim or H2O sim if you can get ahold of one.
There's no root for MM.

Yes, just won't have the LG phone or any of the LG apps, CyanogenMod has plenty though, YouTube CyanogenMod. No there's no root for MM you'd have to flash back to Lollipop gain root then flash CyanogenMod after you root Lollipop. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3249803
Not gonna hold your hand through the process dude, do your research like everyone else does...

Sry if im taking longer to understand this than usual, its my first time.
So if I want LG's Marshmellow, I have to get my hands on an at&t sim and that way I'll never have root access. The other way is to downgrade to kitkat, get root access, then get android 6.0 cyanogenmod/fulmics. Is that a correct understanding?
What features of lg get disabled with cyanogenmod/fulmics? Does the camera work fine? Does the battery life last as long as stock?
Also, another question i couldnt find an answer to - does my d850 have qi wireless charging? Can it get qi wireless charging?
Cheers.
