Long time lurker, first time poster, thank you for taking my post!
I have a Moto G, CDMA, unlocked bootloader, TWRP recover, Kitkat 4.4.2 stock Verizon ROM, rooted, on Pageplus. The GPS stopped working I'm hoping you all might be able to help. It quit in the middle of a road trip, so I had been using it extensively and it worked perfectly right up until it didn't (fortunately the mobile network location service was accurate enough to navigate by).
Of course, I ensured the location mode was set to "High accuracy" and tried rebooting first. I cleared AGPS data, though that shouldn't have made a difference. I also tried a factory reset (in TWRP) and fastboot erase modemst1/2 as suggested in another thread, still without success.
Using the app GPS Test my wife's Moto G gets a very accurate fix within seconds. On mine the exact same satellites are shown to be in view but none in use. To me all of this suggests a hardware issue but I thought I'd ask just in case. Any suggestions? Thank you all in advance!

I have a TMobile LG MyTouch 4g, E-379. I had originally had CyanogenMod 7 on it, but had GPS issues of not connecting, losing signal, etc. Tonight I found a fix for it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12976312&postcount=1579
I applied this fix, and received 2 errors during the 2 similar "If" steps, saying that there is no space left on the device. I rebooted the device, and the GPS was automatically turned on. I noticed I also had no service. I waited a couple minutes, and nothing. I've tried turning airplane mode on and off, trying to scan for networks, and turning on 2G only, to no avail.
I went into recovery and recovered the image I backed up before this fix. Still no service, and GPS was still on automatically. I went back and recovered an image from March, still the same. I got desperate and ended up installing stable CyanogenMod 9 (which I'm enjoying so far) but still the same issue is occurring.
What in the world did I do, and what can I do to fix it? Google and searching the forums have brought me nothing, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: I put it back to the stock ROM and noticed an icon at the top indicating a SIM card error. I dragged down the menu, and in big letters, it says "SECURITY ERROR"
Hrm. Anyone? I'd hate to have to warrant this out.
Hey all,
First off, this is my first thread so please forgive me in advance if I faux pas on some unwritten rule (I did read all of the written ones).
Ok, so I'm on 4.3 ML1 and have been for about a month with no problems whatsoever. However, two days ago I started noticing that my data connection was very intermittent. I called Verizon tech support and they said that it is probably an app since the phone's data ran fine in safe mode for a long time. I was told to uninstall app by app and see if that made any difference, but before I did that I tried my sneaking suspicion - it's actually the fact that I tether that does this!
Thing is, I haven't changed anything on my phone for weeks. No new apps, no updated apps, nothing. My foxfi app always ran perfectly fine for hours. So, it doesn't really matter if I tether with Foxfi (yes I have full version), or PDANet, or Easy tether; the result is the same: normal use for about 3-5 minutes followed by none or an absolute snail's grind after that until I simply toggle my 4g on and off (I used to restart the whole phone, sigh). Once I toggle the data, it works perfectly fine for another 3-5 minutes!
Anywho, the only other thing I have done is unroot my phone via terminal emulator as per this thread's OP (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758) since I was safe-rooted, freaked a little, and thought that might be the issue (great thread with enough clarity for a beginner like me btw) . No luck. I'm back to stock unrooted and the issue persists.
So, has anyone had any such similar issues? Any solution I may be overlooking? I have two options left if I continue troubleshooting with Verizon - a factory reset, or a replacement under warranty. Would the factory reset do it? I guess I better root again and titanium backup some of the app data I don't want to lose. Sigh.
Thanks.
p.s. Oh yes, another oddity, when the data stops working, google based services still work. So, I can run youtube or google search for hours without toggling the data both on my phone and on the computer it is tethered to; both wifi or usb. But everything else, all other web pages and apps, do not work longer than the 3-5 minutes until I toggle the data. Weird, huh?
So I unlocked my boot loader and went crazy flashing everything from radios to logos to a ported 4.2.2 (thanks topsnake) and all was good untill a few days ago. All of a sudden i would lose data and call reception my bars would go grey with the circle with a line symbol on it. It would then turn back on then off then on, you get the point. Then it would be fine for a while bit start all over again.
So I fxz'd and started from scratch no dice still happening. I go to Verizon and got a new sim still happening. I just about smashed my phone when I tried Google one more time and found an obscure post in the nexus 5 board here at xda. Seems they have had this problem before but it was do to the sim tray or so they thought. One member ran a log cat and tracked down the culprit. It as a widget of all things transparent clock and weather. It seems this widget when updating location information using only GPS location (there is an option to turn off) deactivates your sim card. It's like turning airplane mode on then off over and over until it finishes the update.
I unchecked use GPS for location and no more restricted access changed messages. Hope this helps anyone with this problem there may be other apps out there causing this issue or it may be an issue with kk I don't know. The frequency of the problem is determined by the duration that you have set the app to update. I had it set for every 15 min. So it was driving me nuts. If you see this every few hours you may have it at a greater duration.
Very nice. Port is 4.4.2 lol. You still running it?

Actually not yet I thought it may have been when I installed your port so I went back to stock. But now that I know what caused it and you ironed all the little bugs I'm going to flash again tomorrow.
Sounds good!

I got the same problem today, for the first time on my Droid Maxx. Usually I do not reboot the Maxx for a long time, but due to recent rooting activities, the uptime was not much. And suddenly a few minutes ago, I saw the "Restricted Access Changed" message for the very first time.
I can see there are many users with the same issue on other Motorola phones in India, though. So this appears to be something common for Motorola.
I tried the GPS settings and it did bring the network back. I also tried selecting the other mode (default is Global) and select my service provider from the list, but registration failed. Finally I rebooted the device and the network came back. So, I am right now observing.
Hi XDA!
I have a problem with my OnePlus One. I have no signal on it and when I try to make a call, it shows me "Turn off airplane mode to make a call". It must be something with the software. I tried huge some ROMs (stock, custom, KK, LP, MM, even ColorOS), many firmwares, modems etc. but nothing helped me. I was flashing with TWRP 2.8.7.0.5, 2.8.6.0 and 3.0.0.0 with no effect. IMEI in my phone is correct. Both WiFi and Bluetooth works. Only the sim card/signal is a problem.
I cannot "Turn on radio" in #*#*4636*#*# -> Phone info. And here's what's there:

I hope you will help me, because I'm out of ideas for this moment. Of course I have "equipment" to flash: unlocked BL, TWRP, fastboot.
Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your answer!
Sadly, I tried it before without success. Now I've tried with few other CMs and other TWRP, but still same. What I have now is: http://i.epvpimg.com/Zdcnh.png
Funnny thing that one time it somehow had signal (a bit weaker than it should and without network).
Solution
I had an identical dilemma this morning. After talking to my insurance, filing a claim, going to my carrier, having a tech look at it, and convincing the corporate office to give me a new phone, I was messing around and decided to try to restart it again.
This time I turned airplane mode on. Then powered off and restarted. Upon powering back on, I was prompted to allow airplane mode to remain on or to shut off airplane mode. I shut it off and service resumed immediately. I hope this helps.
Hi - Few months ago, I upgraded my OnePlus 3T to Lineage 18 and Android 11. today I inserted a SIM card, but I am getting an error "Turn off airplane mode to make a call" Radio Off.
I tried to WIPE/ Clear Cache in TWRP. please help to resolve the issue.
did you solve the problem somehow?
My Moto G XT1045 was running perfectly fine with Cyanogen Mod 13 for months. A few months ago, for seemingly no particular reason, data, SMS and phone service stopped working completely. I tried a bunch of things to fix it, including a complete wipe, but nothing worked. Eventually what solved it was running the battery down to nothing, recharging it, and rebooting it.
Now I have the same problem, and the battery-killing trick hasn't worked.
When I open "Phone info" by dialing *#*#4636#*#* it reports "GSM service: Radio off."
Pressing "TURN ON RADIO" does nothing.
When I choose "View service Dialling Numbers" from that page, I get a list of customer support numbers for my provider, so I know that at least the SIM is working to some degree.
Another sign that the SIM card is fine is that the list of Access Point Names automatically loaded from the SIM card is correct.
In Mobile Networks->Network Operators, pressing "Search for networks" yields the message "Error while searching for networks."
Here's a list of what else I've tried:
Removed/re-added my Access Point Name
Switched to and from other Access Point Names
Wiped Cache/Dalvik with TWRP
Wiped everything, including data
Installed stock android ROM (lollipop)
Flashed Lollipop Radio Firmware from this thread
Allowed the battery to die and recharged a few times
Booted into safe mode
Any other ways I can diagnose or potentially solve this problem?
I recommend contacting via pm or by posting in that radio forum asking for losts101's help.

Did you manage to solve this eventually? I am dealing with the same issue on my Moto G XT1039.

Unfortunately no, I eventually gave up and got a new phone. It was getting about time for me to buy a new phone anyway, I ended up getting an Honor 5X (I love it!)
