"Turn off airplane mode to make a call", radio not working - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi XDA!
I have a problem with my OnePlus One. I have no signal on it and when I try to make a call, it shows me "Turn off airplane mode to make a call". It must be something with the software. I tried huge some ROMs (stock, custom, KK, LP, MM, even ColorOS), many firmwares, modems etc. but nothing helped me. I was flashing with TWRP 2.8.7.0.5, 2.8.6.0 and 3.0.0.0 with no effect. IMEI in my phone is correct. Both WiFi and Bluetooth works. Only the sim card/signal is a problem.
I cannot "Turn on radio" in #*#*4636*#*# -> Phone info. And here's what's there:

I hope you will help me, because I'm out of ideas for this moment. Of course I have "equipment" to flash: unlocked BL, TWRP, fastboot.
Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your answer!
Sadly, I tried it before without success. Now I've tried with few other CMs and other TWRP, but still same. What I have now is: http://i.epvpimg.com/Zdcnh.png
Funnny thing that one time it somehow had signal (a bit weaker than it should and without network).

Solution
I had an identical dilemma this morning. After talking to my insurance, filing a claim, going to my carrier, having a tech look at it, and convincing the corporate office to give me a new phone, I was messing around and decided to try to restart it again.
This time I turned airplane mode on. Then powered off and restarted. Upon powering back on, I was prompted to allow airplane mode to remain on or to shut off airplane mode. I shut it off and service resumed immediately. I hope this helps.

Hi - Few months ago, I upgraded my OnePlus 3T to Lineage 18 and Android 11. today I inserted a SIM card, but I am getting an error "Turn off airplane mode to make a call" Radio Off.
I tried to WIPE/ Clear Cache in TWRP. please help to resolve the issue.

did you solve the problem somehow?

[Q] 4G Connection Issues (Haven't Lost WiMax Keys)

Hello. After lots of rooting, ROM flashing, and all that good stuff, somewhere in the process I did something that must be keeping me from using 4G. When I turn on my 4G antenna, in settings it just says I'm "Disconnected" and when I scan for service, it scans for maybe five seconds and goes back to disconnected. In the settings, all three fields for 4G network information (Network provider, Signal strength, and IP address), are blank.
I used wimax_mtd and ls /data/misc/wimax/ to make sure I still had my keys, and I do, they match what's written on the back of the phone exactly. I tried this with no luck.
Anyone know what is causing the problem? I'm running a fully rooted gingerbread.

What rom/version? What provider? What troubleshooting steps have you taken?
Sprint. The ROM is just a rooted version of Gingerbread (2.3.3). The software number is 2.76.651.4. Troubleshooting? I don't even know what you're asking there. I have my keys, I've confirmed that. I tried one thing from the thread I linked. I can't connect. What else am I supposed to try?

Flash the new radio/wimax radio, update profile/prl/twice/reboot twice, tweak ##DATA# settings.
Read the Wiki here:

Unless your actually connected Network provider, Signal strength, and IP addresswill appear blank when you look in settings. If you've confirmed you have your keys, and are in a 4G zone. Then you can try a simple trick that sometimes works. Put the phone in Airplane mode for a few minutes. Then take it out of Airplane mode, and try to connect to 4G. If that doesn't work then go ahead and update the radios as VICODAN said. That should solve the issue.
Still no luck
I just tried all of those steps, besides the airplane mode one, with no luck, but I'm trying the airplane mode idea right now, and if that doesn't work, I'll elaborate.
EDIT:
Okay, no luck.
So I went through and flashed the newest radio and the wimax radio, and in the process I realized that I didn't actually have the newest radios beforehand. (I also learned that I hadn't yet formatted my microSD card to FAT32, so it's good that I realized that too. ) After that, I went into System Uupdates and updated Profile and PLR, then I rebooted, and I did it again, and I rebooted. You said to do it twice, so that's why, but you said twice twice so I wasn't sure which part to do twice. (Wow, that was a mouthful.)
After all of that, I tried the airplane more thing, with no success. I've connected to 4G in the past here, and the spring website even says my area has 4G coverage, so I know that's not the issue.
Also, about the tweaking ##DATA# settings, I mentioned that I tweaked it according to the link I put in the original post, but is there anything else I should try?
Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Last thing to try is ##rtn#, wipes fone and resets to factory defaults, then do hands free activation.
Also make sure your [email protected] stuff is configured properly. This is also somewhere in ##DATA# settings.
You can also try flashing a different rom like CM7
But before you do that call sprint tech support and tell them to fix it. They might be able to do something on their side.
Okay thanks, I'll call them later today.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
So I called, the woman had me do a few things, and after hitting restore from the menu in ##DATA#, the 4G is behaving differently. Instead of scanning and returning to disconnectec, it now goes to "turning on ..." Then to "turning off ..." And back to on again. It cycles forever, until I manually turn it off.

Well it sounds like something is still wrong. Try flashing a different Rom to rule that out. If that doesn't work, and having WiMax is a must. Then you may want to think about running an RUU back to 2.2 stock. Then just start the whole root process all over.

[Q] Stuck on WiFi Turning on
Hello,
I've seen this issue with various phones and various fixes... But I don't want to Hi-Jack anyone or anything. Anyway, I tried the dev build of "L" at one point... and my WiFi randomly stopped working. I thought "welp, it's a dev build... not gonna sweat it" and went back to stock 4.4.4... flashed back to factory, no dice. It seemed to turn on long enough during the setup process to "connect" but it disappeared when I rebooted to go to ART. Thought, welp, no experimental anything. Flashed back to factory, no WiFi. Not even during setup. Tried the various things I've seen around... obviously various factory resets, tried rooting and renaming wpa_supplicant.conf, flashed paranoid android because someone said that's the only thing that worked... it didn't. I do notice the kernel seems to be the same for PA and 4.4.4, so I could try another kernel, but have no idea which to try. After I put TWRP on, I cleared every cache, etc I could. Flashed back to stock after clearing system and no dice, tried running wifi fixer, tried installing macman... nothing. I did see someone say if the phone gets too hot, the WiFi chipset can come off, but the WiFi chip-set is the same as Bluetooth, and that's having no problems. I appreciate any suggestions, I really want this to work out. Otherwise I have a year with a phone with no WiFi... To kind of clarify (re-reading, I see I wasn't too clear about the actual problem), the WiFi toggle switch is set to "Off" and where your networks would display it shows "Turning on WiFi". This isn't just one network acting up, and this has been going on for a couple of weeks.
Edited to add: when I unlocked the bootloader today, the setup process showed me my networks but settings froze when I put the password in... so the hardware seems to be connected...
Please continue any discussions in the existing thread HERE

[Q] No carrier signal - damaged HW after L update?

After updating to 5.0 my Nexus is kind of stuck in airplane mode.
I usually turn to AP mode at night. Yesterday morning, I turned AP mode off, but I didn't get any carrier signal. The AP mode icon is not there, but when I try to make a call, I get the "turn off AP mode" message. Wifi works fine, but I can't make any calls or receive messages.
First time it happened, I removed the SIM, rebooted, put it back in, and it was back. This time, it doesn't work. I tried another SIM to no avail. I even rooted, did a full wipe, but the problem persists.
Any ideas?
Solved!
I flashed all of these modem images:
http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/Nexus_5/Modems
Should have done it in ascending order and not from the newest, as only the second one worked, lol
EDIT:
Not.... signal is gone again and I get random crashes. Trying to install vanilla Lollipop.
I tried everything I can think of. Even reverting back to KK. Still, no signal. I got some the other day, but soon it disappeared. It's probably a HW error, sadly :crying:
Is it possible that my antenna was damaged because of the L update? Am I the only one who has this problem?
Can you check your IMEI in About Phone => Status? It may be that your IMEI was lost during the update.
I already relocked the phone and sent it back to the seller for a reclamation. Hoping to get a new one by Xmas

Huawei Y9 Intermittently not recognising SIM Cards

My Huawei Y9 has recently started to intermittently stop recognising either SIM card in the dual sim slots. Once this happens I can restart the phone or set to aeroplane mode for a number of minutes and this usually resolves it for a short period before the exclamation comes again in place of the mobile reception.
I have confident of both SIM cards functioning well as I have tried them in another phone, and also tried a different SIM card in my phone and the error occurred again. So I am sure that the issue is with the phone.
I have followed the following steps but to no avail:
Restarting phone
Removing SIM cards
Checking other SIM cards
Running in Safe Mode
Clearing Android Cache via Recovery mode
Reset Network settings
Checked for IMEI (It is there when the card is working, and null when it isn't)
Have the latest updates installed
Other than a factory reset (which I don't want to do until I have exhausted all options), I am not sure what to do. The phone is only six months old and still under warranty, however it was bought in Cambodia and I am now living in Brazil so I don't think they have service options readily available here.
Any suggestions?

Hello Oisin
I'm facing the exact same issue here. It's started the day after the last update (FLA-LX1 8.0.0.124 (C185)). Please tell me if you have the same firmware.
Well, I also tried Factory reset and even flashing the same official firmware doesn't solve it. I talked online with Huawei support (from the app) they told me that It's a software issue and to do all kind of reset... But it was un vain.
From my point of view, the culprit seems to be an built-in app that ask for location or network Time. But every time it does the phone reject the sim as you said earlier. Note: It's still do it even with the location disabled (asking for network time)
I spotted the app last week, It's com.hisi.mapcon. As I'm typing this message, I decided to revoke this app authorisations to modify system parameters. I'll tell you if that solves the issue
Otherwise I'm planning to downgrade the firmware (the last step before I break this phone out of anger)
See ya
---------- Post added at 04:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:55 PM ----------
Revoking the authorisations didn't make it. Now I will debloat this app... It seems kind of useless while being troublesome
For now, I just disable location. And there's a little trick to keep your signal on. While disabling location, soon after you'll get a notification tile that the phone need location enabled. At this moment the signal will disappear. Don't enable the location just keep the notification as is. And toggle the airplane mode on for 10 secs. Then toggle it off. Tadaaa! Signal is back... It'll stay on as long as you don't erase the notification or enable location .... Still, if you reboot your phone, you have to do it again... This is just a "patchwork" while waiting for a solution but it works

Hi Mumiby,
Thanks for the help and reply.
I have FLA-LX2 8.0.0.126 (C636). I can't pinpoint the exact time the error began unfortunately. However your work around fixes the issues as you suggested. Thanks for that. Although as you said, it is only patchwork and not a long-term solution. Any idea if Hauwei are aware of this or likely to fix it?

Hi.
Well, I came here on xda to post this problem because Huawei didn't react to this issue. Maybe there's not enough people complaining about it to make a move. I bought my phone in Morocco and now I'm in Congo DR. There's no Huawei Customer Care here and reporting to the online service is sort of hopeless. As I told you I'm planning to downgrade the firmware so that I can give them evidence for the bug

OK, just to note, I can delete the notification of location services and the SIM error does not return. Only if I restart the phone or turn on location. I have passed this information on to Huawei Cambodia also.

Do you still have signal right now ? Maybe It's my imagination, it seems to me that when the phone asks for location it enable it for a few secs maybe to warm it up... I'm not sure about it but if the location app or the gps driver (maybe the radio) is the culprit then it does make sense. Logcat would be helpful for investigation.
I deleted the notification too. Let's see how long it last

Well last night the battery died and the phone was restarted. I left the location services off, and since restart the sim is working fine. So it is clear the sim not being recognised is directly related to the location services being on.

So we just have to wait an update from Huawei. Btw I still have signal without the notification... It's kind of weird because before around 20 minutes after deleting the notif' it would get back and kick out the signal .... Maybe we did find a better workaround ?
Hey Oisin
Does the workaround still work? Did you have some updates ?
Hi Mumiby,
Yes so some updates on my part. Firstly, after my last post I decided to turn on location services again to see how long it would take for the error to reappear and to gather proof of the error. Surprisingly, the error did not, and has not reappeared.
I also upgraded to the latest firmware a few days ago (.128) and all is still good.

Well It seems like the location needed to take a break ....
On my side I still don't have any updates coming, unfortunately I still can't enable the location without network crash but the signal stay on without notification. I hope I'll get an update soon.
By the way, I noticed that there's a lot of people viewing our topic but none of them react ...
At last! Update available the .128 as you
Three days without problems After update. I think it's solved

OPPO A12 CPH2083 no wifi mac? Experts Help Please

Just lost my MI 10 in a car accident, , still paying it SIGH. I got a deal on a used OPPO A12 that seller specifically said WIFI was not working as you try to turn it ON and it shts itself off, I had seen this behaviour when wrong roms/modems were flashed in some devices, other was just a matter of resetting network settings, so I bought it. Well, this one is not flashed, it has stock rom from TELCEL (Mexico) and it has a really small (didnt even notice until today) crack in one side of screen. so I think (I hope not) it could have fallen and caused the wifi problem at a physical level, is that possible?
Also I notice it has a recent patch, and that is my main suspicion on a bad update process. Any advice please (Bluetooth also does the same thing, switch goes back to off immediatly after trying to turn it on), I have already reset to factory defaults, reset network settings, reboot phone, turn on and off the airplane mode, nothing makes the wifi work.
PLEASE ADVICE
ColorOS V6.1.2Android9Security PatchNovember 5 2021<----- (THIS IS MY MAIN SUSPECT)hardware version: OPH2083EX_11BasebandM_V3_P10Kernel Version 4.9.117
in the status screen I see that it does not show MAC address for Wi-Fi and also does not show MAC address for BlueTooth.
can this mean that hardware is broke, or can this be due to the last patch?, and how can I try to fix/troubleshoot,
I will try to reflash the last update, would it be wise to try and rollback, is it possible? or flash some other region?
