Pressing the back button to exit an app sometimes takes me to other random apps - General Questions and Answers

I've been having this problem for a long time, accross different devices and OS's.
The thing is that, sometimes, if I exit an app using the back button, instead of going to the homescreen I'm sent to other apps that had been previously open (but also closed). Pressing the back button again in whatever app it opened, would often take me to other apps until I finally get the homescreen.
This doesn't happen all the time, but it is quite often and annoying.
Any Idea what can this be about and how to fix it?
I'm using Nova Launcher (prime), which I suspect may have something to do with it.
Thanks in advance.

This happens to me, too, on occasion. It seems that it always happens if I launch an app directly from the app I'm currently using, and with certain apps, every once in a while, I get what you're getting. My solution has been to use the app ATK, or Advanced Task Killer. It's simple to use - just kill apps when you're done using them - and it also drastically lengthens my battery life. I'd highly recomend it.

Google Voice lag?

Hi,
Relatively new the android, I have been using Nokia for the most time.
Lately on my captivate I found out that when I press the google voice app it takes substantially longer to open. I mean much longer than other apps - maps, gmail etc. I am on WIFI, so it shouldb't be a connection problem.
Has anyone seen this problem?
Thanks!
Occasionally, when I do open the app, it takes a while. This is usually after a reboot, however. After the first open, the app backgrounds and opens up very quickly.
Thanks.
But this happens to me all the time, it takes like 3 seconds to open.
I to have the same issue. A good 3-5 sec delay. I am using LauncherPro, have no idea if that has anything to do with it.
yea, i am using launcherpro too..
I noticed this too. I just made a habit of hitting home to get out of the app rather than back-ing out and closing it. If it's cached/running it opens instantly.
Also, I applied RyanZA's ext2 lagfix and it fixed this completely so it's probably an I/O "issue".
that sounds like a good idea.
I haven't used any fix yet. I think i am going to wait for froyo or custom roms to come out and see the difference.
now my phone is completely stock not rooted or anything.

gps bug?

Dont know if anyone else has noticed this but has happened to me a couple of times now. If I start up an app that uses gps i.e speed test then when I quit out of the app the gps symbol remains in the notification bar flashing. I dont know how to get rid of it and have to reboot my phone. Any ideas guys?
Is it possible that your app is still running in the background even after you quit? Some apps do that.May explain why gps is still running.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Hi. Yeah thats a possibility and have been thinking it through. Take for instance speed test, it has no exit key so you have to quit out of it by either clicking back or home. Maybe that is where the bug lies and its nothing to do with my nexus.
One other question I have if you could help me out is about multitasking. Say if I hit the home button when an app is running it still runs in the background. How long does it do this for with out resorting to using an task killer or similar?
Cheers

This problem is not unique to the Nexus S. I actually haven't seen it on the NS (yet), but I see it routinely on my SGS i9000.
You should be able to easily get rid of it by just turning on and off the GPS with the Power Control Widget. No need to reboot. Turning on and off Location Services in Settings screens for the phone should also do it for you.
Thanks ill try turning it off using the location settings next time it happens. I did try with the widget but when i turned it back on it returned and was still there.

From my VERY limited experience, some apps stop running as soon as you press home screen (e.g. website/forum apps), some you need to specifically exit the app (if there is an exit option), and then there are others that stay running until you force stop it. Seems like it depends on the design (or mis-design) of the app.
You can view what apps are still currently running under Manage Apps. You can also manually stop those processes there if need be.
Hope this helps.
Thanks. I've tried looking under manage apps/running apps before but the task I think the gps bug is coming from is never listed in there. Infact not a great deal gets listed in the standard gingerbread applications settings. Games that I know are still running in the background dont get listed either for some reason.

Question about SynergyROM r73

Is any experiencing some lag?
Like while i'm in the messaging app, when I want to go back or close the application, it takes about 2 seconds.
While with the stock ROM, it happens almost instantly.
I'm not sure if this is the problem, but for some reason Force GPU Rendering was on in the Dev section.
I'll update once I figure out if this fixes the problem.

Not if you exit properly with the back button. There is a lag if you exit with Home button. It is giving you time to do the doubleclick for S-voice or what ever app double click is set for. Exiting with home button also leaves app running in mutitask therefore eating battery. Exiting with back button kills app but moves to multitask as a recent app if you want to go back to it but it is not using resources and does not eat battery.

S Voice is disabled, so when I double click the home button, it won't bring it up. Therefore that's not an issue.
It might have been the Force GPU Rendering that is causing the problem.
Will update again.
Is the force GPU rendering supposed to be on? Mine was on...? Never touched it before so...

So I disabled Force GPU Render and everything seems to be back to normal.
I'm not sure why, but some settings were enabled when I installed SynergyROM r73
Well.. only the GPU render and USB debug, unknown source which should be on.

[Q] Slow Home Behavior

Hello everyone!
Let me start off by saying that i'm actually using an unrooted, officially update nexus 5, updated to the latest 5.0.1
I have no problem whatsoever, battery really seem to have improved, but lately i've been getting a strange behavior
After a period of use (it goes from a couple of days to a whole week) the phone oddly slows down when i press the middle button, to return back to the homescreen.
For example, if I'm using the facebook app, and watch a couple of videos along with opening a few external links, when i press the home button, the whole home "loads" from start. I mean, i literally see nothing for a second, then it slowly loads widgets and icons. After it's been loaded, everything works flawlessly again, but if i open facebook again, use it for a while and press the home screen, it loads again.
Mind that i have no custom drawer (i tried Themer, it gives me the same error, it says "loading homescreen" when the problem appears) but the problem is still there with the stock homescreen. I tried force-closing the apps i used, thinking about a memory issue, but to no avail. I have to turn off and turn on the device, and everything works wonders again.
Is there any app that could help me with this issue? I'd like to understand why it's doing this and which app is slowing down my phone.

I am not Sure whether this is 100% sure, But have heard that there is a memory leak issue in lollipop. Which might be the reason of ur problem. And the oly way get enough memory is to restart. But again, I am not Sure whether the above information is correct though.

I've heard that too, but it's strange that it has appeared only now. I haven't had this kind of issue ever since i updated it.
The FB app is just real buggy. My personal theory is whatever that app does exposes the Lollipop memory leak.

Yep i know about that, the FB app is just horrible script-wise. Nevertheless, i've never had THIS problem. And even if i forceclose it, it doesn't solve the problem anyway.

Notification Menu Lag

Whenever I receive a text or Google hangouts message, I normally pull down the notification Menu and tap the message to take me to the chat (within Google hangouts app). I've noticed when accessing a message from the notification panel, there is very long lag/delay until the actually message opens up. Anyone know what might be causing this ?

I've noticed this too, it was also happening to me on the s6 edge.
Its the way that Samsung has its memory management set up. It basically closes the app and when you relaunch it, it has to start up fresh. Same thing happens if you start up an app normally, hit the home button and try going back into the app. Especially if its a larger app like a game. The phone closes it out to keep the system memory free. If you are rooted, try this, will probably fix the issue for you guys http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/development/arter97-kernel-galaxy-note-5-t3189907

With hardware like this I'm shocked that it has this issue. My nexus 5 blazes through app switching and notifications with no lag, maybe a software patch will come in the future.

I totally agree. My Nexus 6 had no issues either.
This is actually caused by the 5 second delay built into Android. Basically, there's a 5 second window after pressing Home (from another app) that the system won't launch/open an activity (opening Hangouts after pressing Home and then tapping a notification from the drawer). It goes as far back as 1.6: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4536
Here's an Xposed module to prevent the 5 second delay: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/stopswitchdelay-remove-5s-delay-to-apps-t2688574
