[Q] how to disable verizon features - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Hi, i have the Verizon HTC One M8, but i'm using it outside of the US. apparently, Verizon has added some call codes that are irrelevant in my country, and that are preventing me from dialing the correct numbers. for example, dialing *68 forwards my calls to a US number, and other dialing shortcuts have different unwanted functions. how do I disable these functions? i tried flashing a costum rom (ViperOneM8), but the original Verizon apps and add-ons remained.
Thanks for the help!

[Q] Verizon GS3 Caller ID problems

Every time i receive an incoming call, the caller ID displays the number in a weird format. ex. +2223334444 (only displays + sign, area code and phone number).
For my understanding, the PLUS sign should be followed by a COUNTRY CODE which is 1. then the area code in PARENTHESIS and phone numbers with a DASH in between. My caller ID is displaying the incoming phone number in a string so that it is not recognized by my contact list.
I am having trouble to fix this issue by adjusting setting, there is no option under PHONE > MENU > CALL SETTINGS > ADDITIONAL SETTINGS
All i have under the additional settings menu are Call barring, Noise reduction, and Fixed dialing numbers.
My Verizon GS3 is rooted and unlocked to use AT&T prepaid SIM. Nothing major got changed except switching the network to GSM. Is that something Verizon has done to cripple their own SCH-i535 version? Any way to get my caller ID back to display the proper format with dash and parenthesis?
Thanks!
Sorry can't help but I'm curious, what do you consider a Major change?

Not sure about stock as I'm running Synergy, maybe stock from Verizon has more or possibly Verizon doesn't allow those options and the videos are from a different version.

[Q] SMS (from websites) issue on Sprint

Hi,
I've not been able to receive authentication codes (via SMS) from sites like skype/facebook etc on my Nexus 5 for some reason. They have my "real" Sprint number (not the google voice number), and I don't have google voice integration (I only use google voice for voicemail).
I've sent an inquiry to Sprint, but thought I'd check here to see if anyone else has noticed this issue, and hopefully, get a workaround
Thanks!
Call Sprint customer service and tell them you want to enable sms "short codes" I believe is what its called by default Sprint has these disabled I had the same isue a few years ago. A quick phone call they will enable it on your account and should be good to go from there

I am not sure about US but however, when I do seem to have such issues, I take my SIM out from my phone and then insert the sim in a basic phone like Nokia 1112 or any other basic set (SIMFREE). Then I just ask for Code on whatsapp/skype/viber etc using WIFI.
Either you get the code on your basic phone or you ask for a call to listen the code to authenticate it
I hope this helps and works for you too

Thanks @hshshawn - glad it is not a device specific issue (though it doesn't explain why my previous phone - S4 - was able to receive these). I'll ask Sprint to verify this. Maybe they disabled it when I switched over to the Nexus

Thanks. In this case, I ended up requesting the code by Email, so that worked. But I'll try to call my carrier to confirm that they haven't blocked short codes.

Review Of 'Dual Sim Control' – Dual SIM Management App for Mediatek Based Phones

NOTE: This review was written when the app used to be called 'MTK Control'. So any references in the text to 'MTK Control' now refer to the app's new name of 'Dual Sim Control'.
I have been using chinese dual SIM phones for quite some years now and love the facilities they provide. I can have both my work SIM and my personal SIM in one device rather than having to carry two phones around with me as I used to. Also using the dual SIM solution allows both SIM's to be connected to the hands free system in my car so that I can make and receive calls on either SIM through the car system.
However, there has always been a downside and that is the SIM management facilities built in to Android. When making a call or text, when you press the send button a box will pop up asking which SIM you want to use to make the call/text which you have to select before the call is made. There is a facility whereby you can assign each contact in your address book to a particular SIM but even this does not automatically make the call using the assigned SIM. All that happens is that when you make a call/text the same box will pop up asking which SIM to use and the only difference is that now there will be an indicator next to one of the SIM's recommending it based on the SIM assignment but you still have to manually select it. Now I don't find this a particular problem when using the phone normally but it is a major problem when using the phone via the hands free system in my car because when I make a call through the car system the box still pops up on the phone asking which SIM to use which is a big drawback and means that the phone has to be accessible and visible while in the car.
However, I have now found a great solution that I have been using for about a month now and is working great. It is an APP called 'MTK Control' which is available through the Google Play Store and is available as a free version and a premium version. I would suggest testing it with the free version first to make sure it will work with your phone but if it does work ok then I would wholeheartedly recommend purchasing the premium version which is only 79p (around $1) and adds additional functionality like homescreen widgets etc.
So, what does 'MTK Control' do that the built in SIM management does not. Well, everything to be honest. Firstly it gives you toggle actions to turn each SIM on/off or to toggle calls between the two SIM's and also to toggle the data connection between the two SIM's.
All of these functions can be added as widgets to the homescreens in the premium version as shown below.
However the best part comes with the ability to create rules to assign contacts and numbers to a particular SIM and have that SIM used automatically with no user intervention required. This is done in the following screen.....
….where you can input a single number, a group of numbers using wildcards, an individual contact or a group of contacts and then select which SIM you want to assign this rule to. So the following screen shows that the contact groups 'Family', 'Friends' and 'Services/Shops Personal' are asigned to SIM 1 (personal SIM) and the groups 'Coworkers', 'Customers' and 'Services/Shops Work' are asigned to SIM 2 (work SIM).
There is also an auto learn function that can be activated so that the first time you dial a new number or contact it will ask you which SIM to use but it will then automatically create a rule for this number so that in the future it will be automatically chosen.
The best part about this is that it works seamlessly with the hands free system in the car. When I initiate a call from the car system the phone will automatically select the SIM to use based on the rules that have been setup. This means that I don't need to physically access the phone at all and it can stay in my pocket.
In my view this app does what the built in SIM management should have done from the start. The developer of the app is constantly updating it with new features and is very approachable and takes on board feature requests.
One word of note, as the title of this thread suggests, the app will only work with Mediatek based mobile phones and will not work with phones like the Samsung Duos range etc. I personally have tested it with the following phones:
UMI X1S (MTK6589)
Jiayu G3 (MTK6577)
Jiayu G4 (MTK6589)
Jiayu G4S (MTK6592)
I haven't used the text or data functionality so can't comment on that specifically but the call related functions and the calling rules I use all the time and have worked flawlessly.
NOTE: This app is now called 'Dual Sim Control' and is now compatible with Samsung Duos phones as well as MTK based phones.
I have no connection whatsoever with the developer of this app. I am just a very happy user of it.
Update: Edited top post to reflect this additional information.
I have now tested and can confirm that 'MTK Control' also works on the Jiayu G4S phone which uses the MTK6592 Octa-core SOC.
Hi,
Thanks Russell for the review.
I'm the developer of this app, and if you have any doubts regarding the app, suggestions, or problems with any function please contact me directly using the contacts available at the Google Play app page or (as long as Russell doesn't mind having his thread slightly hijacked) ask here.
Thanks

Hi Russell,
I have a G4s but don't seem able to get it to work right, can you confirm that you are using the kitkat rom with this?
I have bound numbers with the app and with the system but still asks me for a sim when dialling via Bluetooth.
Any help greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Hi,
Can you post the configuration you have on MTK Control, and on Android Settings.
Do you have any contact SIM preference defined?
Thanks for sharing.

Hi,
what info do you need?
I have some numbers as preferred in contacts (they show a little symbol and the sim card name next to them in the phone book) and added some rules also in mtk control, and slid the enable button on and it said always validate, but still get the box pop up saying which sim.
Let me know if you need anything else, and thanks for looking at it.

Hi,
try to remove all the preferred contacts in Android settings, and then set on of the SIMs as the preferred one. This way I think that the Android popup to select SIM should not be shown.
Then you use MTK Control entirely to select the SIM used to dial.
Please tell me if this helped.

Hi,
I've made an upgrade last week to improve KitKat compatibility.
However, the best is to try the free version like you did. There is also a grace period on the payed version (not in-app purchase, only on the full version) so you can always try all the functions and cancel the order to get refunded.
Regarding your problem when you say that you are always asked to choose sim, you're talking about a MTK Control popup or the stock Android popup? If it's the latest, look my previous post where I explain how to get the best experience with the Call Rules.
Regards

Hi
Sorry for delay, did a full reset of phone to make sure no other apps messing with it.
No sim associations are set in android.
voice calls set to always use one sim
Rules created in MTK control to use second sim.
Phone will dial via Bluetooth speech recognition and appears to choose the sim but call ends without ever connecting. No box pops up asking for sim choice, interestlingly if the screen lock is off the calling screen doesn't show either.
I can hand dial a number and it appears to choose the sim and show calling screen but uses Bluetooth for voice.
Any other ideas?
Thanks

So if you dial using Bluetooth the call is never made... but if you dial from phone with the Bluetooth connected it works as expected?
Can you send me the application debug information after replicating the first situation?
Thanks

Changed the delay to 500ms and this has fixed it, now dials via Bluetooth speech recognition and call connects.
Many thanks for the advice and help.
Steps for anyone else having an issue.
1.remove associations in android
2.set sim association in MTK control
3. set a sim as default for voice in android
4. set time delay to 500ms in MTK
Thanks again

Hi,
In Android settings you can define one of the SIMs as the prefered one for a given contact.
This associations induce, in my opinion, a not very user friendly behaviour even .when not using my app.
You should remove them to make sure that my app can work it's magic without interferences.

Hi,
I believe that it doesn't work, but you can try it with the free version. I'm however preparing a new MTK Control version that will bring support to Android One and Samsung phones.
Join the Google+ community since I will announce there when it's released.
Thanks
This APP looks great but you clearly state it will not work on other phones, like my LG G3 so I was wondering if you know of any other APP like this that will work on a normal LG G3 dual SIM phone ?
Thanks mate

HTC U11 Voicemail Setup On Stock Dialler

Hello,
I have just taken delivery of an HTC U11 6GB/128GB Dual SIM (all stock / not rooted) and find I am having issues with the HTC stock dialler and Voicemail setup. Basically on the stock dial pad I do not have the voicemail icon on key "1" so I cannot press key "1" to access my voicemail. I have checked under settings for voicemail and my provider and number are set correctly . I have installed a couple of other diallers from the Google Playstore and they have the key "1" voicemail shortcut that functions and dials Voicemail correctly. I have also tried with a couple of different provider SIMS and in all cases with the HTC Stock dialler no voicemail shortcut.
Can anyone offer and advise?
Many Thanks.

Same issue for me. Very strange!
Noticed that when you are actively in a call, however, the VM icon does appear above the 1 key when you click on the keyboard. Slightly pointless at that stage though!! Also no way to assign a speed dial to slot 1.
Probably something to raise with HTC directly?
Same for me. I tried to raise a case with them but for some reason the online form didn't seem to get through.
I will try again and send this link!

Maybe it's just a problem with the phones bought direct from HTC or SIM-free? Mine came from HTC.
Had a reply as follows anyway, so fingers crossed for an update soon.....
We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties with HTC dialer of your HTC U11.
Thank you for informing us about issue with the voicemail icon and attaching the screen shot.
We have forwarded all data to our developers and expecting Phone app to be updated.
Please, for now use any third party dialer from Play Market.
Also, you can add the voice mail number as a contact and set speed dial for it.
Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience you may have experienced.
Well, I have the U11+ with Oreo 8.0 and this issue is still there.
Maybe if you are back in touch with HTC you can mention this.
For now I'm just using speed dial 2 as my voicemail link.
Just installed the latest update 1.23.709.3 and this issue is still present.
Would be nice to see this fixed!
I was checking the information under the Phone Identity in Settings, and I noticed that under Slot 1 Phone Number, it is shown as, 'Unknown' !!!
Maybe this is the reason (bad coding) why the phone can't set up the voicemail dial feature when hard pressing 1 on the dial pad.

Nope. That isn't the reason. The same happens on my U11 64gb wwe and both my HTC m9's, one Dutch and one UK wwe. All phones show the phone number as "unknown". All phones have the voicemail on #1 speed dial for any carrier as normal.
It is the responsibility of the sim card to instruct the phone towards the correct carrier settings. It could be either the phone or the sim card.
Check the sim card in another device (must be network unlocked) and see if the problem occurs there, if so then the sim card is the problem.
If the test phone has the correct carrier settings and voicemail speed dial works as intended then the problem is the U11.
As for sprint and verizon, if those phones were issued by those carriers then the vmsd will work as the carriers preconfigure the device before shipping.
Have you checked both sim slots?.
Have you spoken with your carrier?.
It could well be that the problem is related to the dual sim feature.. More investigation needed i think..
Did HTC offer any fixes?
My wife just received an unlocked dual SIM U Play and we have the same issue. Carrier is set up. Voicemail number is correct. Voicemail icon does not appear against #1 on the dial pad unless a call is underway.
Press and hold #1 results in a request to select which slot (only 1 in use). Pressing slot 1 results in "Connection problem or invalid MMI code"
The only solution I found was to use speed dialing, and assign number 2 with the voicemail number.

[Solved] Using *31# as prefix for outgoing CallerID

Once I had an HTC Touch HD, running Windows Mobile. Windows Mobile had the option of calling anonymous unless the called number is in the contacts. On later smartphones, using Android, I have used the app Prefixer, to achieve the same result. Prefixer can add the prefix *31# to numbers I call from my contacts. That way calls are made anonymous, unless the number called is in my contacts.
Recently I switched to another carrier, and Prefixer is no longer working. Even manually adding the prefix to a number does not work. If I dial for example *31#0123456789 the phone app is only showing 0123456789. I don't know if this is normal, or that the prefix should be shown.
I can't directly contact the provider's customer service, because I now have a contract via my employer. Before I try to do that anyhow, I would like to ask the question here first: is the problem caused by network configuration of my current provider (or the SIM card)? Or is there a setting in Android that I missed, that disables a prefix to be sent when calling a number?
