Is it Gorilla glass 4 or sapphire? I can't find anywhere information about this.
It's a Gorilla Glass 4. Front and back
I know about front and back glass. I'm asking about camera glass cover.
He answered your question the first time. It's gorilla glass on both sides

Are you sure the camera lens is gorilla glass? It is not part of the main rear glass panel.
Samsung are not making a big deal about the material (like HTC are with the M9 being sapphire), so I am guessing it is neither. Probably no different than the glass used in the Note 4 which it seems was easy to scratch.
Androidauthority managed to crack the lens on their review unit.

It seems like a normal glass... Noted as well in the review by android authority that they cracked the lens camera
I read somewhere that it is in fact GG4. Source I cannot give, since I read that a long time ago. However I've never had problems with the lens glasses on my previous Galaxy phones, I have no reason to believe it will be much different with the S6.
And the fact that AA managed to crack the glass doesn't mean it is NOT GG4. It is a glass, no matter what marketing name you are going to give it, after you drop it, chances are that it will break. So having GG4 doesn't make your phone invincible ya know.....

I was wondering that too. My guess is that since two of their major competitors (Apple and HTC) have made a big deal over the sapphire their lens cover, and Samsung has been silent on that, that it is neither sapphire nor gorilla glass.

Its at least gorilla glass. No I have no proof but there's no way they wrap the phone in gg4 then put something cheap on the only vulnerable part. That would be a PR nightmare.

I called Samsung and was on hold for 15 minutes while they confirmed. They told me the front and back are Gorilla Glass 4, BUT the glass covering the camera is regular glass.
After experiencing scratching on my Note 4 this is a deal breaker as the GS6 looks more difficult to remove and replace. If Apple, LG, and HTC can put sapphire over the camera to mitigate scratching, so should Samsung.

so i will keep the plastic on !
Yeah, this sucks. I have had my s6 for 2 weeks. Camera cover is already scratched to hell. All I've done is put it down on my desk and in my pocket. Not happy. This is going back to Verizon. Will wait for the next moto x (which must be a gorilla glass cover as it's unscathed after a year)

Hi! I am strongly considering the Skyrocket but I've always enjoyed the extra protection of Gorilla Glass screens. Any reason why they decided on glass screens for this model? And how is the screen holding up from day to day wear?
Thanks...
I'm confused by your post, are you asking why they decided on gorilla glass on this model? Cause you clearly said that you "enjoyed the extra protection of Gorilla Glass". If you want to know does it have gorilla glass, yes it does. And its holding up very well I use mine with no screen protector. Third phone i've had with Gorilla Glass and havent scratched one yet. Not to say that they cant be scratched, I just havent scratched one of mine.

Sorry for the confusion. I've read a few reviews that this phone does NOT have Gorilla Glass, so that is why I asked. So if you say it does, then I am sold on it.
This is where I saw one of the reviews that said no Gorilla Glass and it shows scratches (around the 1:35 mark):

From all the reviews I've read, PhoneArena is the ONLY publication that has said the SR doesn't have Gorilla Glass. It actually does. They probably just got a bad sample or something.
Thanks for all of the info...strongly considering this phone but have been tempted to try Windows Phone 7, in the form of HTC Titan too...
Some people seem to be confused about Gorilla glass too. From my understanding gorilla glass is scratch resistant, not scratch proof. So you still can end up scratching it.

Gorilla Glass... scratches.
It's just difficult to break.
Just ordered two of 'em!
I think that video has been debunked. I have read somewhere that they actually scratched the screen themselves before putting it on the ground. Some of the comments for the video you linked specifically points out things like "something in his left hand" and "swiping his hand across the screen before sliding it on the ground".
Now, I'm not saying gorilla glass is indestructible, I think most people are aware that gorilla glass CAN be scratched under certain circumstances but I don't think it's as easy as they portray in that video.

I've had my device for over a month and I only purchased a case last week. I keep my phone in my pants pocket and upon visual inspection, the camera lens hasn't been scratched yet. I conclude that its pretty durable.

I would not take an chance. I have ghost armour on my lense. (Its the button on tje iphone that is round that they put on my camea)
Pictures is clean as ever and if it gets scratched(its not scratched in 10months now) I just replace the protecter.
Rather be safe than sorry
FYI, the lens is internal to the phone. In the back is simply glass and it is recessed. Had mine over a year, no scratches. I cannot say the same for the screen.
Had mine for quite a while now, not a single scratch on the glass itself, but its a bit rough on the bottom part of the ring around it because its where the phone lies when put on a flat surface. Not much of a deal at all. I don't use a case (used one for a week then took it off and never used it again), but if you do then same probably won't happen to you because of the elevation.

On the screen? I had a glass one. It was great but I broke it. I can't actually apply the plastic ones. I went through about £30 trying to apply but were not attractive.
I personally have had my phone since release and have never had a case on it, it has yet to be scratched. If it is, they're micro scratches that I'd have to use a magnifying glass and the right angle to see them. If you feel the need to, I've seen a few protectors (basically circular screen protectors for the glass of the camera). If that gets scratched, remove, replace.

Is there any reason in particular you don't want it to cover the camera? I imagine most manufacturers thnk they might as well cover the camera and protect it from scratches aswell. And in my experience the protector doesn't affect the camera visibly.
I have heard that. I just prefer it. When you get your new s5 it has cut outs on the initial scree protector so I am surprised that even Samsung hasn't made one. I may have no choice though

Tempered glass is a thicker screen protector. Most of the time it has an oleophobic coating to prevent smudges/fingerprints.
A screen protector is worthless on an S5. This phone has gorilla glass. If you do something to damage the glass, I can pretty much guarantee that protector will fail at the same time the glass does. Save your money.

I would hardly say it's worthless to put on your phone. Can never have enough protection for an expensive device. Gorilla glass is ok, but not indestructible. The tempered glass will absorb the impact and possibly Crack in certain situations, but usually the screen underneath will still be fine... :silly:
I just got this one from Amazon yesterday it does not cover the front camera. Best part is that it's cheap and looks good.

I really don't think that covering the camera really that bad, I've got a glass screen protector on my handset and it doesn't take away any quality from my selfies! I think if it's applied incorrectly (has bubbles or dirt on the protector) then it would.
Did you mange to find one that doesn't cover the camera? I would be interested to see the difference if there is any.

FEATURE of Temperedglass:
1. Safety. Once broken, it splits into tiny harmless pieces;
2. Hardness. 4 times harder than ordinary float glass;
3. Special logo and pattern can be printed on the tempered glass;
4. The best screen protector in resisting thermal stress and wind-load;
5. Bear sudden temperature change of 220 centigrade degree.

A Note 4 owner (love the Note 4) looking to switch to the S6 next month when it comes out due to the smaller size.
Question - I noticed in the hands-on videos of the S6 from MWC that the metal rim extends a bit above the glass panel to absorb impact, and it's gorilla glass 4.
So - does this truly make the phone shatter proof? Can I use it without a case and not worry about shattering the screen if it falls out of my pocket (my Nexus 6 shattered from 2 feet).
No screen is "shatter proof" in a cell phone. You could have gorilla glass 10, and if your phone lands the "right" way, it will break.

AFAIK, Gorilla Glass 4 is as strong as Gorilla Glass 3 but in a thinner form. And Gorilla Glass 3 is definitely not shatter proof.

I looked this up too. Here:
"A piece of Gorilla Glass 4 can offer the same damage resistance as a thicker piece of Gorilla Glass 3, so manufacturers like Apple could make their smartphones’ screens 20% to 25% thinner than with Gorilla Glass 3 if they wanted to “settle” with the same damage resistance levels of Gorilla Glass 3."
Seems to imply that manufacturers have a choice - they can thin down the gorilla glass 4 panel and offer the same protection as gorilla glass 3, or they can use a 'standard' thickness gorilla glass 4 panel and offer better impact protection than earlier. Wonder what approach went into the S6 panel.
Read more: http://www.cheatsheet.com/technolog...from-shattering.html/?a=viewall#ixzz3TLHbeTpM
All glass will shatter in the proper conditions. The S6 will be no exception. I say this will make having a case all the more important. I imagine back panels won't be terribly expensive, but the screen will be $$$. Good luck removing the front glass without damaging the LCD panel. I know it's been done on the S3 and up, but the thought of heating up the phone enough to soften the adhesive, while not damaging the other phone components, scares me.

the impressive thing about this phone is it's the closet to the S6, both have glass on front and back. the big difference is the xperia uses DragonTail glass and not gorilla at least on the Z2 from what i gather..
Only option to prevent the horror scenario - glass shattering - is to put an UAG or Otterbox case on it and protect the screen with tempered glass. Like Dandroid and others have said you could have Gorilla Glass 25 if the phone is landing on the right spot face first it will shatter no matter what.

I think you guys are all missing the point of the question. I didn't ask if Gorilla Glass 4 guarantees that the phone will never break. I was merely wondering about it's improved strength and its benefits in everyday scenarios. In hindsight, maybe I should worded it as "shatter resistant" instead of "shatter proof"
And no, some of us don't want to turn our already big phones into clunky laptops or VCRs by putting a hideously huge case on it. Which is precisely why the industry is investing in shatter resistant technology to start with.

i want to know if the screen is using the anti reflective coating like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05UFlwnbtfE

bull****!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...s/samsung-view-case-scratched-screen-t3107467
no, it's not shatter proof, it's more of scratch proof, these screens are built to wishstand a static pressure, which means something that moves on the screen it self, like trying to scratch it, shatter proof means it has to take a dynamic pressure, like dropping or hitting with a hammer or things like that, you can't have both worlds at least in glass...so they focus more on the scratching thing....
We've all seen the drop tests and no doubt dropped their phones without cases from time to time too. I haven't broken a screen by dropping a naked phone since before the original Xperia Z. The S6 glass is pretty resistant to shattering but best to use a screen protector and take the hit on that instead of the screen.
Just love my s6 being naked since I bought it .. I don't care about shattered or not.. they have spent billion of dollars for R&D to development such technology.. so why can't we just enjoy it as it's out of the box... otherwise nothing left forever guys...

It's fine and fits well. Not sure how a 0.9mm thick piece of transparent glass can look cheap or premium for that matter
I ordered CaseBase premium tempered glass from Amazon. However I haven't received it yet and can't use it until November.
I ordered a german brand (or at least its sold under the name "wunderglass" meaning wonder glass; made in china ofc).
The fit is ... not that great tbh. The cut outs are fine and in place, but it has too much space to the bezel of the z5. Is there a brand which produces such glass protectors with a minimal gap to the bezel?
I've tried a lot of different brands and I found none that can compete with StilGut in terms of cut, quality and durability. It's made by a German company as well [in China]. A little pricey, but well worth their cost.

Excellent! I was just earlier looking for a front + back solution. And 20 bucks for both with 2 year warranty? Pfft, that's cheap.
Spigen's glas.tr slim costs 25$ and it's just a front protector. And it's 0.4mm compared to this StilGut at 0.33mm.
I take it you've got some personal experience of these StilGut protectors?
Q: How's the, uhm, quality I guess, of the oleophobic coating on them? Longevity wise?
I've previously used UltimateShield on my One M7 and on my partner's LG G3. Our gripe with them is how shortlived the coating was.
Didn't take all that long (a little over two months I guess) for the coating to wear off inb4 smudges galore and made the glass NOT easy to clean. Of course any coating will not last indefinitely but still..
P.S. That typo in the thread title made me chuckle, guess it's time for bed...
I got the StilGut front/back kit same day as my phone (Saturday). The cut is perfect as usual. I completely forgot that the Z5 had frosted back glass and wasn't sure if the tempered glass would work but it did. Unfortunately you lose out on the grip of the new glass but until someone puts the phone through some use and report back on whether the frosted glass scratches easily or not, I am not taking chances.
anoke is the best one I have seen/used, fits perfect and has front and back. $8.88 prime

Well you could go and sand the back protector.
Sandpaper (the wet kind and with it use water to contain the glass dust, you don't wanna breath that)
A flat surface to put the sandpaper on (a mirror for example)
Tape to hold the sandpaper in place
Elbow grease
Have fun!
Start at a low grit 120 or 240 and work your way up to 600 or 1000 or even 2000 depending on the look you want.
You can get wet sandpaper in kits, that have a variety of different grit, online or from your local hardware store and so on.
I recommend Nillkin 9h+ pro.
Nillkin Amazing H+ always the best glass for all Zs!
Now available also for back, used it for previous Zs and no any single scratch, durable 9h !!!
Can I just buy a front screenprotector and leave the back?
It has a frosted glass back but wouldn't the camera would be damaged without a screen protector.
Also i can't find a brand that has front and back screen guards only front.
Sorry i am new to using smartphones.

I bought this one and I can vouch for the quality. It has the proper cut-outs for the front camera, sensors, and speakers. I've got it wet a few times and it's definitely not going to peel off due to moisture. One of my gripes with the Z5 was that the edges make the edges a little sharp to grip, but now with this tempered glass on it feels like the glass is flush with the edges like the iPhone.
