Help my buy an oneplus one - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So im trying to buy the phone over craigslist and this what the guy said
"It is in as like new condition as one can be without being sealed in the box. This is the newer model that has a micro and nano Sim tray and no Cyanogen branding."
Is he telling the truth ?, because i think the phone is the chinese version

Pretty sure he's trying to scam you, the OPO didn't come with dual sim slots. And no branding? Maybe if it was painted or something but I'd stay away from it.

It does come with both the trays and no cyanogen on the back these days so I think it's the real deal. You can always check the model number in settings and the software it is running

Don't buy off craigslist, just buy direct from OnePlus, that way you know you're getting the real deal.

Does he have the manual that came with it? It will not have english if it's the chinese version.

Unless your getting some crazy deal, it would be dumb to buy it from Craigslist for convenience. As @timmaaa said, buy from opo. Tuesday is open for purchases.

[Q] I have a Sprint NExus S with a bad ESN. What can...

I do with it? I tried for days to get a good deal on a Sprint Nexus and inadvertantly bought one that had a bad ESN. I know it was a stupid thing to do and I've learned my lesson. I suppose I'll put it on EBay and try to unload it. I've read that these phones can b used on Cricket but what other options are there? Are there other carriers that can use this phone? Can the average Joe flash these phones to alternate carriers or do they need to be sent to hecking geniuses that charge a fee to do it?
Anyone want to take it off my hands?
That sucks. I believe it may be flashable on metro pcs as well.

That really does suck, next time meet at a Sprint store.. you'll never get burned that way. So how much are you wanting for the phone?

I paid $160 for it. I'd like to try to get my money back. The phone literally is in mint condition. I can't find a single scratch or scuff anywhere on it. It came with a black silicon case. I'm going to register and post it for sale over on the cricket forums. I was reading and it seems like it's a favorite for cricket users.
This really can't be fixed? I hears you can
I have seen them with bad esn sell for 200+ on ebay

You can put it on boost without flashing

[Q] Brand new T-Mo US Nexus S?

Does anyone know if I can get one from a retailer with warranty? Or am I doomed to buy a used one on Ebay? Thank you.
You could go to best buy and pick one up. Add the black tie protection and you'll be golden

I'm not sure about all Best Buy stores, but they stopped carrying T-Mobile here in MN. Now the Nexus S for T-Mo is very rare around here.

I'm sure there are brand new NS's on eBay, and if so it will come with a 1 year manufacturer warranty

I see Nexus S in fair shape still going for $300 on Craigslist here because they're hard to find, which is nice because I'm, gonna sell mine when the Galaxy Nexus comes. That should make up some of the difference so my wallet doesn't feel too much pain. But to answer the OP question. Check with your local Best Buy and see if they still carry T-Mo. If they do you'll have no problem. If not then Craigslist or ebay will be your best bet, but as nbeebe24 stated... there will be no warranty.
Thanks all. No longer sold at Best Buy, unfortunately. I'll try and get a good used one and add a Squaretrade warranty.

[Q] Bought S3 from Amazon. Do I have to use their sim card?

I am expecting my S3 to arrive from Amazon today. Are there any advantages/disadvantages to using the sim card they send with it opposed to getting one from the Verizon store?
I guess what I am asking is if there are any strings attached or anything like that if I use the sim card amazon provides?
Thanks!

It is a standard Verizon sim. Contract is still Verizon. Amazon just the retailer. Same as if you went to Best Buy, Radio Shack or the Verizon store.

Ok, thank you! Wasn't sure if it would have any sort of extra strings attached or anything!
This has nothing to do with the sim but just be aware if the phone was discounted and you dont complete the 2yr agrement with verizon, amazon will charge you up to $250 for early cancellation. They try and get their money back they ate giving the discount. My friend got hit with that crap which is sort of dumb but does make sense.

Thanks! Yep, knew about that, but I think it is a 6 month thing, not the full 2 years. I plan on keeping the phone anyway, so I shouldn't have to worry much about that unless something extraordinary happens.

[Q] Buying direct vs from t-mobile?

Hello, pretty rudimentary question, but: I am interested in getting a Nexus 5 because I hear the Nexus line gives you the least trouble among Android phones for installing custom ROMs and doing rooting and such. I am trying to decide whether to buy from Google vs from T-Mobile (my current carrier). Google has the phones available but says they take three weeks to ship. T-mobile sent me an email saying they now have them available; when I called them they said they had already sold out and so could not give me a price, but when in stock again they *might* be able to offer me a discount compared to Google's wholesale price.
Here's my question: T-mobile did say that if I ordered from them, the phone would be carrier-locked. They said they had the ability to unlock the phone "free of charge" (wondering if there's a catch there…). I honestly do not care if the phone is carrier-locked or not, but like I said I specifically am getting this phone in order to minimize nonsense when installing custom ROMs or OSes other than Android. Will buying a "locked" phone, or in general buying a phone from T-mobile rather than direct from Google, create any obstacles to mucking about with the phone's software? Is there some "correct" way to order the Nexus 5 (I know with HTC you have to order a special "developer version" from a separate page) other than just the Play link on the google.com/nexus5 page?
Thanks
I've been a long standing T-Mobile customer for years now. I had NO problems when I purchased my Nexus 5 from Google Play (was one of the first lucky ones). All you do is put your SIM card in the phone before you power it up. Its the new small (micro) SIM cards. I never needed to have my phone unlocked.
Don't you let anyone fool you on thinking its a different phone if you purchase it through T-Mobile instead of the Play Store. It's the same phone.

Difference is it will be about 100 more if you get it from tmo

It didn't take weeks to ship maybe two weeks for the black version. I ordered my nexus 5 November 13 and had it in my hands the 15th. Order the white 32gig if you want it fast. Otherwise pay 100$ for the same exact phone though T-Mobile.

Hah!
When I talked to T-mobile on the phone, one of the reps said they could probably get me a discount if I ordered through them, and the other one said it might cost more…
Maybe I'll just go ahead and order rather than wait around just to get a price that might well be higher anyway. Thanks y'all

Anyone in canada willing to pick one up from me from sasktel?

Need to get my hands on the Moto X Play. Anyone able to get one from sasktel in canada? They seem to be the cheapest out there with the option to buy the device outright from a store.
Please let me know asap
Thanks guys and gals!
You might want to hold on there. From what I've read, all the Canadian devices are network locked...
Telus says theirs are carrier locked

from what I gather, your best bet for acquiring a USA GSM compatible and unlocked Moto X Play is to go with one from Brazil with model number XT1536. The question now is how to get one from that country and not pay too much extra fees for it. On a side note, I noticed all the Canadian carriers seem to carry the 16GB model only. i know memory is expandable but i'd prefer more onboard storage due to faster read/write access plus better memory chips used vs. your typical microsd card.
They're carrier locked but from what a Bell representative told me, you can pay them 50 (unlocking fee) and then you can unlock the phone yourself / other people to get it to work outside the carrier.

Hey thanks for the heads up man. i thought the brazilian one was also compatible but wanted to see if canada was easier. If it unlocked from brazil it may be a better buy.
Real problem is that conversion really sucks... $300 usd for the one from canada and $400 usd for the one from brazil

If you want- I can get you the one from Canada- I noticed you were in NYC which isn't too far from where I am- it is $449+tax CAD + $50 unlocking fee + whatever shipping would be to you.
Let me know! I had to go through so much trouble to get one even though I'm already in Canada already ahha- but no regrets at all! Awesome phone.

Made another thread about me getting for other people as well. Also I'm not going to buy the unlock code from. Sasktel at first. Going to see if one of those cheap unlock site work first.

500 dollars??? better off getting the moto style
Does the Sasktel one come with the Turbo Charger? I saw an article on MobileSyrup that mentioned Koodo is one of two carriers that includes the turbo charger, but didn't see anything more.
Here in Alberta there's no sales tax, so getting it from Koodo may not be a bad idea (if they'll sell outright). I'm considering buying one, but only if I can get it outright.

Hey it looks like if you go into a koodo store you should be able to buy it sim free from them. Do they have stores in alberta? you willing to go and check it out?
Yes they do. If you can give me until tomorrow, I'll go have a look (I'm probably going to grab one if they have it in stock.
I actually have a Koodo account, so I shouldn't have a problem buying it without the 2-yr term.

Awesome dude let us know the total cost with tax after you get it. i am very interested.
Moto x play is smaller the the LG G4 in all ways except thickness....who cares with that huge battery!
BTW it is confirmed why we dont have it in the USA.... http://www.droid-life.com/2015/08/25/droid-maxx-2-verizon/
I got my Moto X Play from Koodo today. While I did upgrade from my tab, I also confirmed it's $430.50 outright here in Alberta ($410 + 5% GST).

Motorola are extremely cheap to unlock... The last few I did were around 5 bucks
Has anyone figured out how to get the 2nd SIM slot to work on the Canadian variant?
